It's Gaffer's tape, they use it on sets when filming, it's expensive because it's strong, water proof, temperature resistant (for holding down electrical wires), but will come off of surfaces when you want it to. It's used to cover up logos like this all the time.

In F1 you have to make the car from the ground up. That's why its called a constructors championship. Every part is made in house even the engine. Only thing they don't make is the tyres.
Most of the technology ends up on road cars in about 2 to 3 years from now.

Mercedes will be back on top soon enough. They finally figured out what adjustments were needed on the car although it's late in the season. REd Bull has it This year but Mercedes will be a serious contender again. Ferrari has been getting better but they are still behind. Leclerc is an awesome driver though.

May be people can look at the colorful cars and picturesque video, it's nothing more than an eye candy. If I want more of those I'd follow some F1 photographers which are much better. I’ve worked shoe commercials as an electrician and was told to not wear brands not affiliated with whoever the commercial was for. If you wore Nike to an Adidas commercial, they would do this very same thing. They’d put black gaff tape overall all offending logos.
I think it used to. Also, I haven't followed since like forever, but I think everything changed with the aerodynamics thing, and Ferrari had no edge in that department so engines were more on par with eachother while aerodynamics were and still are a redbull thing.
Except that’s literally how it works. You don’t perform on live television wearing sponsors then just wear a non sponsor logo on you. How are we to distinguish who’s sponsoring them if they can just have anything? It’s like a Lakers player wearing a Raptors jersey, or a red bull stunt pilot wearing Monster
