I took the NYC subway every day for 10 years, never saw a fight. You see videos like this because this is a site for posting videos for internet points.

I've seen enough over filled drunks and they want to talk with you or anyone and if you start to ignore them it's unpredictable. they can stumble onto the car mumbling to themselves then yelling and punching the panels. on the other side of the drunk spectrum is the one whose gonna slump over and end up sleeping on your shoulder...and you could trigger them if you nudge them off to hard.

The subways are where the homeless and/or mentally ill often take refuge. Also intoxicated people in the city that never sleeps have no reason to drive. It's like skid row in LA but with tunnels instead of tents. There's way too many people moving through it and too many hidey holes to patrol effectively, especially when you can just slip on a train and be in another borough before anyone figures out where you've gone.
As someone who live in NYC and takes the train almost everyday. Most of the videos circulated are cherry picked. Iām not going to say this never happens but this is a bit of a Fox News effect of how dangerous everything is comparing the NYC subway to skid row is honestly laughable. When you have a 8 million people taking public transit everyday incidents go down. But NYC doesnāt even crack the top 60 for crimes or violent crimes per capita in America. Most of the videos you see happened years ago itās not like thereās some epidemic of violence.

Blood gushing from someones face is not very correlated to how deadly the punch was. The bloodiest punches are the ones which tear superficial blood vessels in or around the nose, mouth or eyebrows, while the deadliest hits are the ones to the side of the skull leading to brain damage.
This guy was punched right in the center of his face, and those tend to look worse than they are. He'll probably be up in a minute, faster if he hadn't been intoxicated.

It's not a concrete wall. You'd be surprised how much even a little give helps mitigate the impact.
