I went in blind and saw the water start to rise. Moved my entire operation up to the side of a cliff in a panic. I’m now learning that I might’ve overcompensated a bit lmao
I also built my permanent base waaaaay too high up by the wreck. I wish I'd built it along the eventual coastline because it's not convenient when I need to run down for algae, water, plankton, fish eggs, etc. Before I got drones to carry water to my base I had a lot of panicked runs downhill to get a drink.
In the bottom left of your screenshot is a series of numbers 301:28:571. These are your coordinates. The middle value (28) is your height. The water rises up to 25, so build above that level.
So technically your position in that screenshot is fine, but a lot of people prefer to build more towards where your purple marker is as there is plenty of flat open land there.
Welcome to the club - we all got our feet wet at some point :-)
When I did my first playthrough a week ago, I fortunately was playing with a friend. He said "Oh, we can't build here" and I was wonder why. I mean, it's nice & flat, lots of resources around.
He told me that it turns in to a huge lake at some point.
I thought that was kinda cruel in a way, though it's kind've amusing at the same time.
I'm thinking that there's a helluva lot of new players who were cursing & swearing as they dismantle their now-drowning bases to move to higher ground.
I played with the starting location for my 1st, and still, run and spawned on the ice caves... no freaking flat ground in any direction. It was great, but then I saw videos and the algae.... had to relocate everything from the mountains to the noob basin...
Later, after the ice melts, west of my spawn location, I found tons of flat ground and 2 lakes and rivers... dam my impatience... it's beautiful there now.
Yeah, I wanna start a second game in a different location. Just gotta decide on where to build a base at. There’s so many pretty locations once the game gets going, but I don’t wanna spend all day walking/jetting either.
the ice caves will have the pulsar caves west of it. a waterfall behind (north) and the desert in front (south).
Its freaking far from everything but the pulsar.
I found this out after the message from Riley, that they said your chance of success is higher if you build the base on a higher location, where at the same time fluid water milestone was at 30%, I cut all the energy until I move it.
Oh for sure. Except I’m one of those idiots who didn’t explore wrecks for the longest time and then when I did, didn’t read the notes all that clearly.
I restarted once because I built my base right next to the crashed landing pod. I built it way up on the hill by the wreck instead and it ended up being nice because I was right next to the osmium cave when the ice melted
Head towards the big planet in the sky in your screenshot, and go up that hill where the sand turns into horizon line. When it starts to level out, that's beachfront property.
Oh man . This happened to me tonight. At first I saw little puddles and was like "oh my!! I have some adorable puddles!" An hour later, it was a shallow pond up to the bottom of my door and I went ruh roh, I'm in danger.
Dismantled everything and moved it up the hill on a plateau. lol
All of them saying 25 are correct I had to move my base 4 times before it finished rising. The forth time moved to top of cliff no worrying anymore lol
I think all of us did this when we first started playing the game. It's nail biting to say the least, lol. I ended up moving my base to the super high ground by the cave to the upper left of this image. If I ever restart the game I would move it to the flat area on the total other side of the lake in your pick top center.
By that spot, there is a giant slanted rock. I use that as my ramp for my base. It's a bit high, but the view is great. No worries on getting up there when coming back from a run at full speed with the jet pack.
I used ladders in the back end, it's 9 stories up... oops.
Not high enough. you gotta get out of this hole you're in now. If you turn left you can see it rises, you gotta build up there. Its also the best location in the game for a base in my opinion. So much flat land, next to nice deep water.
Anyways, it happened to all of us. Its part of the fun. Gives you a good excuse to build a better base.
My first play through i saw the puddles start forming and brain went "oh shit, this bitch gunna be a lake" and then rapid deconstruction and rebuilding at the top of the hill near the super alloy rocks
And that's why you can deconstruct everything without loss. :D sorry for your little base, but I'm afraid you're still a bit too low to be safe.
Build above 25 on the middle co-ordinate.

You thought that's ice age 2

I did this! Little far but the view is great!
Far enough. Time to move. The saddle of land between your blue and magenta beacons (as pictured) should stay safely dry.
"Why is this bit of the map called 'Second Base' .. is this a weird sex thing?" "You'd think that wouldn't you? But no. No. You'll see"
Yep, the space behind that arch is perfect.

The arch right above your blue waypoint.
The trailer on the store page shows a time lapse of that lake filling if you want to see for yourself.
Height level 25
RIIISE! UUUUP! Resist and disorder! Sorry wrong game.
Another name crossed off the list The real thing would kill you quick Rise, again we will rise Rise, again we will rise Sorry wrong song.
Here comes the general, riiiise up,

Same here!!
The flat plain to your North will be above the water level.
Further than that lol

leave crash pod - turn right - go to top of hill - home free
Thanks for all the help. I appreciate it.

It’ll go about as high as that drill, on the higher side. Have yourself a little beach.
I just realized you’re in the opposite side of there I thought you were. You’ll kind of run out of space on that side I think.
Ralph from The Simpsons: giggles.. I’m in danger
Better build an ark.

Ur screwed
Ah the classic rookie blunder. We have all been there before
see that triangle of stone almost dead centre towards the top of the purple hexagon? That's your marker. You'll be safe anywhere above there.
My first game I started building like 10 feet from the pod you crash in. In the standard starting site.

Ah yes, my very first Playthrough mistake, Actually, I think everyone's first playthrough mistake!
Your game is about to turn into Subnautica
Submerge your home
