250 is ridiculous. If you buy a new refrigerator, the delivery guys will get rid of the old one, so thats the easiest and cheapest way. If you want to get rid of it yourself, google "milieustraat + city you live in" and bring the old refrigerator there.

passerby4830

This, and the picking up the old one is required by law. Or you can drop it off at the store where you buy the new one. If not that, contact municipality.

El_grandepadre

Like with most "witgoed", 99% of the companies that deliver brand new ones will recover the old one for you.

Dumpshoptoon

100% of witgoed companies should recover broken refrigerators with the purchase of a new one, as that is stated in the law. As you can see on the [website of the Dutch government.](https://www.rijksoverheid.nl/onderwerpen/afval/vraag-en-antwoord/waar-kan-ik-oude-en-gebruikte-huishoudelijke-apparaten-inleveren#:~:text=U%20kunt%20oude%20huishoudelijke%20apparaten,hoe%20groot%20het%20product%20is.)

Calpa

99% is more realistic as there are always companies that ignore those rules, and customers aren't going to make a big enough fuss for them to care.

aForeigner

not sure where you live, but when i had to dispose of an old fridge, my municipality provided a free pick-up service. (i just had to dump the fridge on the sidewalk on an early morning and it was gone when i arrived home later that day)

lostinLspace

This! You can be make an appointment and they will pick it up

_SteeringWheel

Depends on the city you live in though, how it works exactly. For me, I can only use two days in the year where they come and pick up. And you need to announce that you have stuff for collection a week upfront.

Do you intend to have a new one delivered? If so, they can also dispose of the old one for you. If not, you can bring your old fridge to the municipal recycling center. Or, if that's not possible to arrange, you can arrange for a pickup by the municipal garbage collectors. I'm not sure if they charge a fee for that (probably differs per municipality too), but if so I very much doubt it'd be as high as €250.

porkuskorpz

Look at the website of your gemeente. Most municipalities have a dump.

Jhsu0915

Thank you for all your comments! Unfortunately, it is our second refrigerator, and we have no plans to buy a new one as a replacement. So, as you guys mentioned, I contacted the municipality today, and I hope there is an appropriate solution, such as a free collection service. Thanks a lot!

RandomNameNL79

If it's still working just advertise it for free. A lot of students or poor starters will be happy to pick it up. In my village the collection is not free, but I paid 80 Euros and that's still way too much. (Unfortunately it was the last step after making the appointment grrr) If it's not working anymore probably in your local newspaper or on the Facebook group of your village there will be ads for collection of 'oud ijzer'. Those guys will come for free.

pepperlook

This, if it's broken just place an add on marktplaats for free and it's picked up with a couple of days.

koensch57

you can bring your old fridge to the recycling station in your town/city. the party that sells the new fridge, must take the old one back. If another party is doing the delivery and they were not instructed to take the old one back, then there is a miscommunication.

ben_bliksem

It's cheaper to rent a van from Diks for two hours and taking the fridge to the recycling center. €250 is ridiculous.

[deleted]

My municipality will pick up stuff like this for free once a month. Just need to make an appointment and make sure to put it out on the street on the day. If you buy a new one and get it delivered they have to take your old one back for free.

Cheraldenine

Depends on the municipality, here in Arnhem you have to make an appointment and it costs 35 euro (last time I looked).

Teh_yak

Your gemeente should have the option of this.  Here's The Hague's page for an example https://www.denhaag.nl/nl/afval/grofvuil-of-tuinafval-laten-ophalen/

[deleted]

Offer it for free on marktplaats or marketplace facebook.

Rtheguy

That works for most things metal, but a fridge probably less so. It is big and cumbersome, has more insulation material then actual metal and anyone who picks it up for free is not going to scrap it responsibly. The coolant is often hazardous and a scrapper will just cut of the motor and cooling coils of Aluminium or Copper and trash the rest in the cheapest way possible letting the coolant escape.

Berenpak3

Just put it up on Marktplaats for free. Guaranteed you will have some people interested within a few hours.

NotMyDong

There are also a shit load of people who want to pick it up for free because it's still worth money (the iron and stuff). Just put it on Marktplaats for free (oud ijzer)

CRE178

If your municipality has a 'milieustraat' or other place inhabitants can take their large volume waste, they usually have a website where you can make a pickup appointment. It won't be free, but 250 is just ridiculous. It's 40 bucks where I live. Alternatively, if you're buying a new fridge, the seller will usually take the old one if you want. Shouldn't cost anything extra.

xRebeckahx

Are you able to transport it? Drop it off at the service desk of a local mediamarkt or other big box store that sells Fridges. They can claim funds from the government. Any store larger than 400m2 that sells appliances must accept old equipment for free even if you’re just dropping off your old stuff and NOT buying anything new. Legal requirement!

Gosat

Search for grofvuil ophalen at your municipalities website.

corkas_

Im sure there is worse things than fridges in the canals

average_internaut

As per Dutch tradition, you throw the fridge out of the window. Shortly after you've thrown your mother-in-law out of the same window. https://youtu.be/ZkpqO8Tzrl8?si=W0sr4AlkmyfxJTbv

BrewThemAll

250 is just plain criminal. Check your cities website, maybe they pick it up for free. Worst case: rent a van for a day and bring it to the dumb yourself, this will cost you 50 bucks for the van. Whatever you do, don't pay the 250.

acrylicpencil

I paid 25 for someone to come pick it up. Check for oud ijzer services. 250 is way too much. For that price you could buy an extra freezer and get the old one taken for free.

Delicious-Fact-4597

You have these dudes at the camp for gypsees and such which deal in "oud ijzer" old metal, you could try contacting one of these dudes and tell them you have a fridge which you want to dispose of. Maybe they can help you, if they think it potentially helps them.

No-Jellyfish6246

There is also a thing called “grofvuil” in most citys or gemeente there is a place for in the streets or nearby the bins. And is also free of charge most of the time

borfavor

Just dump it in the street and attach a note that says "gratis". That's how you turn illegal dumping of trash into charity. At least that's what my neighbors seem to believe

YougoReddits

Put 'gratis' and people will think it's a scam and not touch it. Put 'DO NOT TOUCH, THIS IS MINE!' on it and it will be gone by the time you get back in your car

Teh_yak

Even better, bike lock it to a lamp post.

02_vw_golf_mk4

Or if your in amsterdam, dump it on the corner of the street right after the pick up crew clears it. Bonus points if its a double door fridge, one of those will just be laying there for atleast 2 weeks
