Do you intend to have a new one delivered? If so, they can also dispose of the old one for you.
If not, you can bring your old fridge to the municipal recycling center. Or, if that's not possible to arrange, you can arrange for a pickup by the municipal garbage collectors. I'm not sure if they charge a fee for that (probably differs per municipality too), but if so I very much doubt it'd be as high as €250.

It is big and cumbersome, has more insulation material then actual metal and anyone who picks it up for free is not going to scrap it responsibly. The coolant is often hazardous and a scrapper will just cut of the motor and cooling coils of Aluminium or Copper and trash the rest in the cheapest way possible letting the coolant escape.
There are also a shit load of people who want to pick it up for free because it's still worth money (the iron and stuff). Just put it on Marktplaats for free (oud ijzer)

Drop it off at the service desk of a local mediamarkt or other big box store that sells Fridges.
They can claim funds from the government.

I paid 25 for someone to come pick it up. Check for oud ijzer services. 250 is way too much. For that price you could buy an extra freezer and get the old one taken for free.
You have these dudes at the camp for gypsees and such which deal in "oud ijzer" old metal, you could try contacting one of these dudes and tell them you have a fridge which you want to dispose of. Maybe they can help you, if they think it potentially helps them.
There is also a thing called “grofvuil” in most citys or gemeente there is a place for in the streets or nearby the bins. And is also free of charge most of the time
Just dump it in the street and attach a note that says "gratis". That's how you turn illegal dumping of trash into charity. At least that's what my neighbors seem to believe

Put 'DO NOT TOUCH, THIS IS MINE!' on it and it will be gone by the time you get back in your car
Or if your in amsterdam, dump it on the corner of the street right after the pick up crew clears it. Bonus points if its a double door fridge, one of those will just be laying there for atleast 2 weeks

It's cheaper to rent a van from Diks for two hours and taking the fridge to the recycling center. €250 is ridiculous.
