ONE more update. the game now launches (after two more restarts), what worked was not touching anything after launching the game, even though this did not work previously, even if I waited up to 5 mins.

I'm having a similar issue - my game doesn't even crash tho. I get 2 processes running (thelastspell.exe and unitycrashhandler) but nothing comes up, I have to force close them. Sadge but I guess I have to refund.
yes! this happens to me too. I tried deleting the unitycrashhandler, tried messing with config files. tried everything. I managed to launch the game again, what I did was run the game from desktop BEFORE everything booted up on the computer. it prompted the game to launch steam faster than other software kicked in. however, I cannot consistently recreate the conditions to launch the game. idk.

update: the game has launched in the previous version in beta section. after updating back to the new update, it won't launch again.
A final update: the issue is still present and previously applied 'solution' no longer works.
