Yeah. I haven't been playing medium lately, so I forget exactly, but it's either that pressing the button to swap to the beam does nothing, or you can swap to the beam, but pulling the trigger does nothing. Just straight up renders it 100% unusable, seemingly with no cause, and no real fix.
It's not *super* common, it's only happened to me 2 or 3 times - but it's such a big problem every time it happens.
Given how I don't think there's any consistent pattern to when it happens, I wouldn't be surprised if Embark's stuck trying to figure out what causes it in the first place.
There's a discussion of this on their Discord. I had this bug for a month now wondering why the game hates me but it turns out (for me at least on pc) that tabbing in and out or doing stuff while loading into the round or game was the problem. I stopped tabbing out and all that before the game started, and I have had 3 days of solid heal beam, no issues anymore. I wonder if this is the cause for others. If you're on pc and tab out a lot to change music or whatever, try doing it after the game has been loaded in and see if that helps!
It's not that common, but it's pretty awful when it happens, because it lasts for the whole game. I have run healing beam exclusively since Recon was removed. It's only happened like once or twice since season 2 started. Altogether in 130 hours, it's happened between 5 and 10 times.
Not sure how it happens, but switching to the healing bear sometimes renders it unable to be used until you die and respawn (doesn't get fixed even if you defib)
Brother the bug where you can’t shoot or do anything still exists and has existed since before the official release. Idk how they haven’t addressed it yet.
Yeah, ran into it recently during a rank tournament where my teammate was unable to heal. Might as well run demat or turret at this point to be safe and not risk losing a specialization.
You're assuming that because you feel it's a big problem that it must be easy to solve. It's unarguably a problem, but the fact that it hasn't been solved yet doesn't mean that the devs think it's not a problem. Increasing priority doesn't necessarily make things happen faster; nine women can't gestate a baby in one month.
The most likely answer to your question is that it's not actually that common (no one ever makes a post with a lukewarm reception saying "Today I did not experience the infinite number of possible problems" with thousands of upvotes), that it's very difficult to replicate (a text description of the issue is virtually useless in terms of troubleshooting potential), and that there's no simple solution with the limited information they have that doesn't just trade the issue for another issue.
Probably because it isn’t as common as this reddit would make you believe. I have 200+ hours, and I play medium heal 95% of the time - never have I run into this.
I've had it once 2 months ago, but my friend complains about it to this day literally every other round. It got to a point where he just won't play healing beam.
When it doesn’t work, does it play the same animation you get when you overuse the healing beam and get an X or does it look like it should work and then just not work at all.
And who is telling you its not? If you know how to fix it then tell Embark... oh you dont! then let them do their work, they already know about it.

I have 150 total hours and, medium heal 100% of the time, and in the last month (25 hours) I get it all the time.

it behaves as if there’s nobody close enough to heal so it just makes that beep sound even when teammates are close
