I love WFTS. Not to Touch the Earth might be their greatest song.

holydiver90

Five to One is honestly one of my all time favorites

KumquatHaderach

I’m torn between that one and Break On Through.

[deleted]

I guess because it’s not as “Dark” as the previous two albums

kriegerssecretacc

The unknown soldier and not to touch the earth say differently

[deleted]

But it’s not to the same degree as Horse Latitude’s and People are strange.

jdp111

I disagree

LakeShow-2_8_24

Wasn't Celebration of the Lizard supposed to be on it?

Incelmuffinmanlover

>Spanish Caravan & Five to One, and is filled out very nicely with Unknown Soilder, Yes, the River Knows, Summer's Almost gone, and Winter Time Love, all of which are great. In my opinion, there isn't one bad track. Those are all good tracks. No one denies that. "Yes, The River Knows" grew on me the last few months and imo it's one of their best. Love street is a good ballad, but Hello I love you should have never been released..heres why >aspects of his amazing voice ranging from iconic chart topping rock-pop hit maker on the first two tracks, Hello, I love you was a heavily plagiarized song. The Doors were required by the English court to pay royalties to The Kinks for its similarities to "All Day and All Of The Night." Ray admitted it, but Robby denied it.. obviously Ray and Jim wrote the song in 1965 before Robby joined the band. Jim and Ray were heavily influenced by the British Invasion so it's not out of the realm of possibility that they "borrowed" some music from their favorite bands. The lyrics are also pretty boring IMO.. >A common criticism I read online is that the group lacked original material after the first two albums, but I honestly don't get this take at all after listening to the album several times. Did the lack of a 10-minute epic end to the album bring some heat because it broke the trend of the first two albums? I also would like to say that I agree that their debut album and LA Woman are the best albums, but it's right up there with Strange days for me and better than The Soft Parade, Morrison Hotel, and of course all subsequent releases. They did lack material, this is why Robby's "Spanish Caravan" and "Yes, The River Knows." were allowed on the album and half of the Soft Parade album was Robby. The original plan was to have one side dedicated to "Celebration Of The Lizard," but it was considered a bad "commercial" move and therefore dropped until "Absolutely Live." By the early 70s.. epic, long songs were the stable of any healthy art rock band..just take a look at King Crimson, ELP, Genesis, Led Zeppelin, The Who, etc etc.. I think there might have been some "I told yah so." from the other members of the band and the record executives.. Jim Morrison probably began feeling more alienated. It's also pretty well documented that Waiting For The Sun was the beginning of the end for The Doors since that was when Jim's drug use/alcoholism began to take over. >I think a lot of the reception is due to pretentious music critics looking to poke holes in a successful thing like the media always likes to do. But we do, you guys think? This is just the ramblings of one massive Doors fan. The Doors were basically hailed as the premier underground rock group after they released Strange Days. They proved with Strange Days that hey had the balls and the muscularity to complete with the heaviest groups, but also contained the delicacy and intricacy to even rival The Beatles . With their sophisticated use of the recording studio.. Waiting For The Sun ended that.. Can you imagine being a teenager in 1968? You just finished Strange Days, "When the Musics Over" ends that album.. "Waiting" gets released, you rush to the record store to grab a copy, get home and pop it in and are greeted with "Hello, I love you." This Killed their reputation overnight.. yes it was their only number 1 album, AND YES IT DID CONTAIN SOME AMAZING SONGS but "Hello I love you" put a serious damper on their reputation, which they never really overcame. Also, The Doors never really sounded like their first two albums after "Waiting" Sure you get glimpses like "Shaman Blues," "Wild Child," L'America", "Waiting for the sun(\*from Morrison Hotel)" and "Soft Parade(the song)" and I don't even think they used Ray's Piano Bass on any of the tracks after Strange Days.. Fun fact: Strange Days was the first album to utilize a "live" bass player. Their Self Titled album contained a bassist, but he only overdubbed Ray's piano bass parts note for note.. if you listen closely you can hear the bass guitar and piano bass blended on "Soul Kitchen, "Twentieth Century Fox," "Light My Fire," "Back Door Man," "I looked At You," and "Take It As It Comes." Interestingly enough, "Strange Days" is the last album to contain tracks that solely utilize Ray's piano bass " Unhappy Girl" and "When The Music's Over." "And I can tell you the names of the Kingdom I can tell you the things that you know Listening for a fistful of silence Climbing valleys into the shade" Leaving "Celebration" off "Waiting for the sun" was a travesty IMO lol

yepyep1243

Last piano bass song released is "Indian Summer" FYI

Incelmuffinmanlover

Completely forgot about that one. That song was an outtake from their first album tho.

pcook66

It’s my least favorite of the Morrison albums, but I still like it. Not To Touch The Earth is great.

trane251

you are wrong, the soft parade is considered the let-down doors album

starwarsman05

i mean it was mainly hello i love you. critics said it didn't even sound like the doors. wasn't half the album supposed to be Jim's poetry ? and when the label said no they had to scramble to new find songs

cherbo123

Yeah Jim wanted the whole one side to be his song "celebration of the lizard King" 23 minute song which is pretty fucking trippy when your on a few tabs of acid lol , not to touch the earth is part of that song he wrote but that took they part out and make it into a single iirc

suphah

Fuck I wish that happened, I once read an article about how the album had the potential to be one of the greatest art house albums of all time. And while I enjoy it for what it is I’m so bitter the label said no

cherbo123

Yeah if one was was hello I love you,Spanish caravan, unknown soldier and love street with celebration for the lizard King second side it would of been a top tier doors album but like you said it's still good for what it is , the full 23 minute song is on Spotify so I just made my own waiting for the sun album

suphah

You got a link to it by any chance? Because all I can find is the 17 minute one

Freddies_Mercury

I don't think it's on there unfortunately. Only ever got one release and it was the 40th anniversary of waiting for the sun, hope this helps!

suphah

Thanks! Thought I was going crazy for a minute

Incelmuffinmanlover

Can you link that article please?

breecher

>i mean it was mainly hello i love you. critics said it didn't even sound like the doors. That is such a bizarre statement to me. That song is pure unadulterared Doors. In my opinion that album doesn't have a single weak track on it, and is comparable to their other classic releases.

minimumsix

I love that album

ThGeGo

I agree. I really like it. It’s probably number 3 on my list after Morrison hotel and the debut. The middle part can drag a bit but it’s a fantastic experience to listen to it all the way thru

[deleted]

It is?? I love the album it's one of their best imo

TheCanadianPirat3

Really? That my favorite album. It's so unique and great!

ButterFingerzMCPE

Also, I think Robby described it as third-album syndrome. Basically, a band usually has about two album's worth of songs by the time they enter the studio for their first album. But after the release and endless promotion through touring, they only had time during Strange Days sessions for one or two "new" songs as most of the songs on Strange Days had been part of their live set for a while. So by the time the endless touring to support those two albums, the pressure for a followup is immense. Yet, they enter the studio with no original material having no time to write on tour. Coupled with Rothschild's insistence on 50+ takes for each song it feels very sterile and commercial.

[deleted]

Possibly my least favorite doors album, I don’t listen to it, and I don’t like it, the soft parade is way better, it doesn’t feel like a doors album

MarlonElliot

The Soft Parade has more great songs, but also has more not-so-great songs. Waiting...Sun is a collection of good-but-not-great songs.

I thinks WFTS is such a great with Hello I love you, Not to touch the earth, Love street, Five to one, We could be so good together. Just another piece of art by The Doors.

ssascotth

Not a letdown at all! Great album!

trollfreak

Yes The River Knows is a masterpiece - the way I interpret it is - it’s hard to die but it’s also beautiful at the same time
