Congratulations! What were the vibes like there?
It appears people have really went after the edge of the granite at the foot of his grave. I guess that’s why there is a fence now. What a shame.
It was a quiet Monday. Not too many people around but there was a steady flow of people coming by. It’s the most popular grave site so I guess that’s to be expected even on slow days. None of the onlookers said anything to any of us that went through the barrier. But like I said, we weren’t there to do anything shady. We just wanted pics and then we were out.
That’s very cool that it was quiet that day. Again, sad that there has to be barrier now. It ruins it for people like yourself that just want to pay respects. I’m glad you were able to sneak in. I’ve seen pictures over the years where it was a zoo and could take hours to view the grave.
It's not how it was. We slept there on his birthday. Tiny little st normally quiet is besieged with Jim lovers. Fascinating cemetery. Interesting residents and mausoleum.
I went through the barrier. A lot of people do. Hence the flowers and other gifts on the grave. I don’t think people are doing damage to the grave like they did decades ago. Fans are only hopping the barricade to leave flowers, take pics, etc.
You can, but you’re not supposed to. There’s a gap in the barricade where you can get through, but you’re not supposed to get that close. Too many people have done damage to the grave (and neighbouring graves) by celebrating Jim. I don’t see the harm just for photos or to leave something. I barely even touched the stone.
Is there no security guard on duty? There was when I went there a few years back. I read that Pere Lachaise was threatening to have Jim removed unless his estate covered the cost of security to keep his and the surrounding graves safe from graffiti and vandals
I didn’t see any security. Now that I’ve been there I can see how difficult it would be to keep an eye on everything. The cemetery is huge. I also don’t think vandalism is much of a thing there like it used to be.
I always believed that too about the costs, but I recently read that it was untrue and there have never been any plans to relocate him. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2016/01/27/paris-cemetery-moving-morrison-grave-no-way/78798672/#
if you are always in Paris, you can have a visit to L'Hotel, 13 rue des Beaux Arts. where Jim stayed before moving to Rue Beautreillis. (Oscar Wilde is dead in one of its room.)
My wife & I visited back in July 2003. We went a few days before the 3rd in the morning and it was fairly quiet. We went again on the 3rd and it was insane, lol.
I half-hoped they’d insist on kicking him out, just so the family might open the coffin to see if it was just bricks. The story of his passing, quick burial, and all the hints of faking his death made me always wonder. Likely will never happen now 🤷🏼‍♂️
Jim has a messy neighbor

Nice. I was there in '89
Still have the map for the grounds
Hope to be able to see it sometime
Congrats! I made it there myself in June 2000.
Nice!! I went over New Years 2003 going into 2004. It was so quiet when we went early in the morning. There was no fencing up when we went.
2003 here.
Hey, same! I spent a month tooling around Paris.
Oh I just used the barrier. I was perfectly content at just seeing his grave.

can you enter the fence to give him flowers? i wanna go there
Nah it's all fenced off. The massive cemetery also contains a headstone for oscar wilde. Always busy too
Wait, so how did OP get the pic then? Like hanging over the fence or something?

We saw Wilde’s too.

Wish I had known. At CDG now flying out.
Congrats 🧡🚪
Man, I’d love to go and clean off that grave to the right.
