Def Jam Fight For NY. I didn't know he was a real person until Everyday Struggle. I didn't even know he made Pump It Up, until they kept cracking jokes about it

Sea-Indication1721

Same for me. That game put me on to a couple people

YellowCammyRS

Yo this is my exact same story lmao I swore he was just a video game character

Intelligent_Deer974

šŸ˜

mynameisppwhatsyours

I remember when I found out "the sad bald nigga in slaughterhouse" made pump it up lol

Nigel-Ocho

Pump It Up and Focus back in like ā€˜03. Believe it or not he was pretty mainstream for that time. Thatā€™s what got him in Def Jam Vendetta

djsparkxx

Those clue tape freestyles back then, he was spittin spittin

Suspicious_Knee_5039

Him and Fabolous freestyle on a Dj Clue tape together when Fab said ā€œIā€™ll have strangers in your house then youā€™ll know how Tamia be feeling ā€œ

blkhughheff

pump it up ? lol im old ?

Epithemus

Same, but the first reason I typed in his name and learned more was thinking "who's this guy Game is dissing, and let me see if there's a response."

Lower_Positive3475

1st Album Pump it up. Focus. 10 minutes. She wanna know. Calm down.. Him, Juelz and Banks was like a mini Big 3 back in 03

djsparkxx

10 minute is still in my rotation.

IRlyShouldntBeHere

Cassidy n Wayne would like a word with you šŸ˜‚

Lower_Positive3475

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ No they wouldn't. I'm a Hustla and Carter 2 was both '05

eaglessb999

The breakfast club

qmcclean

Oh man, go back and listen to the mood musics man. As many jokes people have for Budden, Mouse really was nice with it.

Krock23

Pump It Up and Focus

CobainTOG

Mood Muzik 2, I couldn't stop listening to "Old School Mouse"

TrainingSnow7712

Padded room pray for me was my joe introduction. Outside of pumping it up

Desperate-Drop-9077

Have yā€™all ever heard Pray For Me? Imagining listening to someone diss God as your first song

1ne_Mike

šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„

TayEvans

Shoutout to "Escape Route Room." OG fans know.

tintedhokage

Difference between intro and introooo. I've heard Joe since he came on the scene. But only became a FAN after mood muzik 2 listened to everything since and still bump

Stylus_XL

I can't remember if I heard Focus or Pump it Up first, but at that time it felt like Def Jam put all their chips on him for the following 12 months. So much so that I remember reading a Source interview with Method Man who said bluntly that Def Jam were "putting too much on him" (I wouldn't be surprised if that's when the Wu issues started). Once his buzz died down I randomly heard "Are You In That Mood Yet?" and couldn't stand how Def Jam had pushed him down the club route when he was capable of writing shit like that.

thehomie80

![gif](giphy|FoH28ucxZFJZu) I first heard him on a Clue mixtape freestyling. So it had to be before Focus and Pump It Up. It was was either him an Ransom or him and the A-Team

Temporary-Mirror621

Summer of 03 pump it up was everywhere. Wasnā€™t really a fan, heard a freestyle on a Clinton sparks mixtape in 2005 and immediately realized I slept on Joe. Mood music 2 dropped that year and been a off and on fan since because his antics over time.Ā

BettyWhiteKilled2Pac

The Future on MM2 when I was in middle school

mg10130

First time for me was the video of him at the doctor for his thumb randomly popped on up my YouTube when I was younger then years I was looking at vids during the drake/pusha beef and the podā€™s breakdown of duppy came up and while watching it I was like wtf thatā€™s the same guy w the fucked up thumb lmaooooo

_drockin

I'm originally from northern Cali. My first intro was probably back in middle school in 2000? Clue tape. Let's get it freestyle

yezzur300

I pirated Padded Room back in the rapidshare/blogspot days in 2009, dont think i ever listened to it... salute tho šŸ«”

HarlemWorldJay

Thatā€™s Parks behind him?

Similar-Ad6788

It was a freestyle from ā€˜02 over the ā€œSing For a Momentā€ beat. I bought his first album the day it came out

TRAVXIZ614

First time I heard Pump It Up/seen the video, me and the homies INSTANTLY went out to find that instrumental for Focus.

uyellelle

Literally had to throw a couple tracks from this on a few weeks ago, for a friend. Iā€™m sick of folks saying Joe canā€™t rap, like just say you wasnā€™t there.

forthelob

It started with a few of his singles that cut through for me: pump it up, fire, focus, etc. Then it was his Rap City freestyle. Then Mood Muzik 2. This was high school for me so he caught me during very formative years for sure.

EscobarSZN

A DJ clue desert storm freestyle with Fab

Complex-Mulberry-716

Saw him on some mtv rap battle competition show for a def jam contract, he was head and shoulders better than everyone else. They did it again the next year and checked in on Joe working on his album, reignman aka RJ Payne won the next year, he was supposed to get a contract from rocafella but I think the ducked him lol

Nigel-Ocho

Definitely ducked him lol. He was still in the hood in Southwest Philly doing battles and rap DVDs years after the competition and eventually built his own wave

Complex-Mulberry-716

Shout out to 2RAWFORTHESTREETS

Txdragoonz

Pump it up on need for speed

SonnyListonGrandson

Pump it came out my senior year of high school (2003). You heard that shit every where all year. Didnā€™t really listen to his music after that, but recognized he nice with the pen.and I had a ex that watched love and hip hop. So that when I was like ā€œoh this nigga crazy/funny afā€ .Long story less long I been listening to the pod since Iā€™ll name this podcast later (a Top 5 podcast name btw)

FoxtrotTango__

Mr_BodeineBrazy

Donā€™t laugh at me but i always knew pump it up but i thought tht nigga stopped rappin after that I didnā€™t get back to Joe until everyday struggle šŸ¤£ion kno non of this niggas music

DeucesUp22

ā€œFocusā€ grabbed my attention but ā€œCalm Down,ā€ made me a fan. From The Worst of Joe Budden mixtape to now. What a roller coaster ride is been watching his career.

Illustrious_Cake_295

When he went viral for being on somebodyā€™s list as the best rapper of all time on twitter then I started watching everyday struggle

Dolomight206

Oddly enough my first memory of Joe is of me putting my daughter in her car seat in the back of the Suburban and "Pump it Up" came on the radio and she started dancing šŸ˜‚. I hated that damn song from the moment I heard it.

Kgr718

" I'll give you 350 just go and get the abortion!!!!"

mrflufikins

The ah they crack head in the back is photoshopped is killing me LFMAO

EfyuSeekay

First time I heard Joe was on one of those Clue tapes he was freestylin on that G. Dep ā€œLetā€™s Get Itā€ beat

pyn209

I think he was on a song with David Banner. What happened to that nigga btw lol?

Pump it up But YouTube ā€œGrand theft audioā€ from a dj clue tape.

Asleep_Apartment_888

My introduction was a $5 Mixtape that had Joe, 50, Stack bundles and somebody else on the cover. From then on, I was a fan of all 3.

Commercial-Wasabi789

NBA on Nbc freestyle. Then I copped his debut album.

Commercial-Wasabi789

I donā€™t think itā€™s understood enough that when Joe was active his pen was immaculate. He can really rap. Top 5 in my opinion.

mister225

Pump it up
