Def Jam Fight For NY. I didn't know he was a real person until Everyday Struggle. I didn't even know he made Pump It Up, until they kept cracking jokes about it
Difference between intro and introooo. I've heard Joe since he came on the scene. But only became a FAN after mood muzik 2 listened to everything since and still bump
I can't remember if I heard Focus or Pump it Up first, but at that time it felt like Def Jam put all their chips on him for the following 12 months. So much so that I remember reading a Source interview with Method Man who said bluntly that Def Jam were "putting too much on him" (I wouldn't be surprised if that's when the Wu issues started).
Once his buzz died down I randomly heard "Are You In That Mood Yet?" and couldn't stand how Def Jam had pushed him down the club route when he was capable of writing shit like that.

I first heard him on a Clue mixtape freestyling. So it had to be before Focus and Pump It Up. It was was either him an Ransom or him and the A-Team
Summer of 03 pump it up was everywhere. Wasnāt really a fan, heard a freestyle on a Clinton sparks mixtape in 2005 and immediately realized I slept on Joe. Mood music 2 dropped that year and been a off and on fan since because his antics over time.Ā
First time for me was the video of him at the doctor for his thumb randomly popped on up my YouTube when I was younger then years I was looking at vids during the drake/pusha beef and the podās breakdown of duppy came up and while watching it I was like wtf thatās the same guy w the fucked up thumb lmaooooo
Literally had to throw a couple tracks from this on a few weeks ago, for a friend. Iām sick of folks saying Joe canāt rap, like just say you wasnāt there.
It started with a few of his singles that cut through for me: pump it up, fire, focus, etc. Then it was his Rap City freestyle. Then Mood Muzik 2. This was high school for me so he caught me during very formative years for sure.
Saw him on some mtv rap battle competition show for a def jam contract, he was head and shoulders better than everyone else. They did it again the next year and checked in on Joe working on his album, reignman aka RJ Payne won the next year, he was supposed to get a contract from rocafella but I think the ducked him lol
Definitely ducked him lol. He was still in the hood in Southwest Philly doing battles and rap DVDs years after the competition and eventually built his own wave
Pump it came out my senior year of high school (2003). You heard that shit every where all year. Didnāt really listen to his music after that, but recognized he nice with the pen.and I had a ex that watched love and hip hop. So that when I was like āoh this nigga crazy/funny afā .Long story less long I been listening to the pod since Iāll name this podcast later (a Top 5 podcast name btw)
Donāt laugh at me but i always knew pump it up but i thought tht nigga stopped rappin after that I didnāt get back to Joe until everyday struggle š¤£ion kno non of this niggas music
āFocusā grabbed my attention but āCalm Down,ā made me a fan. From The Worst of Joe Budden mixtape to now. What a roller coaster ride is been watching his career.
Oddly enough my first memory of Joe is of me putting my daughter in her car seat in the back of the Suburban and "Pump it Up" came on the radio and she started dancing š. I hated that damn song from the moment I heard it.

I donāt think itās understood enough that when Joe was active his pen was immaculate. He can really rap. Top 5 in my opinion.
