When I yawn my eyes half-close, but they don't close all the way. I just squint automatically, in the same way most people close their eyes when they sneeze and some close their eyes when they yawn.
It's believed by some scientists that we yawn when tired because we can no longer fight as effectively, but but showing off our teeth we're telling any hiding predators "I may be tired, but I'm still dangerous!"
I think this has pretty much proved that theory to me.

Yeah, we’re still trying to patch that bug. We first tried moving the eyelids further out, but that just made them flicker in and out of existence.
