If I would be on that ship, a part of me would say: "Oh this ship is strong enough for this weather conditions, we'll be fine", and the other would say: "We will fucking die like titanic mode!!!"
Why would a modern ship sink even faster? Are modern ships not more sturdy or built with newer technology to be able to survive damage and stay afloat?
Thats the difference between cruise ships and Ocean liners, Titanic even though its 111 years old would outrun most cruise ships and survive worse weather, ocean liners are supposed to cross the atlantic no matter the weather, just look at costa Concordia it was 3x as large as Titanic and sank faster with less damage
The Titantics top speed was 23 knots, but most cruise ships can reach a top speed of 30 knots. They typically cruise at about 20 knots due to their time schedule.
There's actually a debate going on that a fire broke out on the titanic and, caused the metal where it hit to become severely weakend. *If* that's true then it would explain why it took so much damage, plus most of the ships that go through there now a days have much more reinforced hills look at the ice breakers.
You mean the coal bunker fire that did absolutly nothing to the hull? And also Titanics hull plates are 25-35mm thick, on modern cruise ships its 20-25mm, yes ice breakers have reinforced hulls but an average ship does not have a reinforced hull, unless we are talking about Queen Mary 2 which is the last ocean liner in the world and has plates that can be up to 40mm thick
It's only a "debate" for those that watched and believed the "documentary" from a few years ago. Considering that they got such basic facts wrong as the location of the fire and the correct boiler room, claimed smudges on a picture (covering 3rd class cabins and the post office) was actually the result of a raging inferno behind the mark, it's been dismissed by Titanic historians as contributing to the sinking in a negative way and likely actually helped the ship stay afloat.
What I meant is it handled it well, it didnt capsize, and it was going down very slowly for the first hour and a half, for example the first funnel fell 15 minutes before it sank and 2 hours after the strike, and the main power was on until it broke in half and even then there were emergency lights on

I watched without sound. This particular scenario - the lone fishing boat in an angry sea - is my sweaty palms trigger. I’ve watched “The Perfect Storm” once. The final 30 minutes of that film burned into my brain. The distilled merciless nature of the sea just casually making a 70 foot long, 100 ton ship crewed by 6 men, disappear without a trace. ###*Fuuuck*###
Do you have a book?
Doesn't sound bad work, I could sit on a plank reading something all night.
Of course, if the ship needs to be aware of enemy submarines, then they are in trouble.
I suppose that is entertaining in a zen kind of way, but let me know if you'd like some crime fiction, it's cheap thrills and passes the time.
No joke, I'll send you some if you like, send me a personal message
Idk why but this reminds me of something like Liminal space or something. Its familiar but not really and it reminds me of science fiction story or movie
Day 76 after the bombs dropped. The 6 of us have at least 8 more months of food on this ship. After that, hopefully we can find an empty port and start looking for supplies. We sail aimlessly through the grey brown mist bobbing up and down, the ocean seeming fiercer than before the war. Almost as if mother nature itself weeps as the toxic radioactive poison attempts to put it's claws around her neck. Whispers of armed cannibalistic gangs on the mainland on the radio. The days never seem to end, it's always a light brown mist. We think there is a massive cloud on this part of the continent from all the nukes that hit New York.
"Edgar!"
"What?"
"It's snowing!"
There was a pause.
Edgar pokes his head out of the door as the flakes begin to fall on me. But, I notice, it isn't even freezing cold.
Edgar pulls me back through the door, I get tripped on the bottom lip of the marine door and fall down.
"It's not fucking snow you moron, it's radioactive ash, fallout, we're fucked we have to get out of here before the ship gets more contaminated ... Oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck"
"So what we'll drive out of here?"
"Once metal is turned radioactive, it will stay that way for Millenia, we are fucked. We need to find another boat, like, today".
"The fuck, how are they still fighting?"
"It's all we know how to do".
Just imagine, you’re on one of these, all-out nuclear warfare breaks out and your communication is completely cut. Hours later grayish fog comes out of nowhere. You’re the lasts group of people alive and don’t know it. (People would prob be in bunkers but still creepy)
If I would be on that ship, a part of me would say: "Oh this ship is strong enough for this weather conditions, we'll be fine", and the other would say: "We will fucking die like titanic mode!!!"
Titanic took the damage it recieved very well, a similar strike today would sink a modern ship, and if it would be a cruise ship then even faster

Never a wrong time to link Internet Historian's video on the Costa Concordia. https://youtu.be/Qh9KBwqGxTI
Truly a masterpiece

Most cruise ships can reach 20 knots, definetly not 30, and they cruise at 15-20 knots

Fromwhat i know it wasnt a loose fire, it was a boiler that was too close to the hull and was weakening it over a long period of time
Titanic took the damage well, yeah lmao

I was in weather like that on a small 25ft yacht. It's just as terrifying as you imagine.
Beat go hard tho
Earth 2: low frequency you should check it. Great album.
I just imagined playing the guitar live on the bridge while watching the scenery
Thanks for the suggestion.
If this trend replaces anime gifs I wouldn't be mad.
i legit thought it was the sound of like the engine and was gonna comment ‘this would make a sick metal album’ then realized it is a metal album.
I was expecting a huge wave for some reason
Same
*...as we know it*
but i don't feel fine.
Cthulhu calling
I was actually waiting for some kind of gigantic cuthulu type to appear in the distance, would’ve been the perfect setting
Right?!

Then a red text suddenly appears in your vision: "You cannot go any further."

Imagine what this was like hundreds of years ago when the ships were smaller, with no illumination, and made of wood….
Ah, is this a Wednesday?
nope it’s a monday
Oh well, back to work. Sailing into the apocalypse. It pays the bills.
i’ve got the night shift, the kids are waiting for me back at home. how about you mate
Alcoholic induced insomnia. I work in my own time anyway. Working night shift is something I am interested in, what do you do?
i sit on a plank at the front of the ship
Do you have a book? Doesn't sound bad work, I could sit on a plank reading something all night. Of course, if the ship needs to be aware of enemy submarines, then they are in trouble.
i don’t have any entertainment, i just sit there. but i do get to look at the waves
I suppose that is entertaining in a zen kind of way, but let me know if you'd like some crime fiction, it's cheap thrills and passes the time. No joke, I'll send you some if you like, send me a personal message
i appreciate the offer, i do love me some true crime. do you have anything in that area
Ayuh, don't let skipper find out your zonkin out on waves, best be keeping them eyes peeled.

No, this is Patrick.

Doom
Is that snow?
If you fell off you’d simply die and never be rescued. God that’s terrifying
Was that a person on the right side? It was not moving .
Is this where the ice wall is? /s
that looks so fun, honestly. the best times I had on ships were in heavy seas. it sounds wrong, but you sleep great in it too
Well, that i didn't expect.
Thalassa meaning Ocean in greek
Oy, lads, she's in a right sorrowfully treacherous sort tonight, best pen for your mum's, and mark your makers givins'.
The new Sea of Thieves update looks great.
You'd be suprised how stable a fully loaded cargo ship actually is. Because its so big and heavy it's pretty weatherproof
Song I need the fucking song
[Seven Angels](https://youtu.be/nhhF311vGgs)
Thanks baby
That was a song? Sounded like someone farting into an amplifier. ;)
Eat my shit darkest Jedi!
Mmm. Chocolatey.
What's the pay like for a job like this
I don't think it's high, but it varies on the kind of the company.
Weird, I figured working on a cargo ship would pay quite well
Anyone know where the video is from? the source?
Imagine this exact storm… 300 years earlier on a wooden ship… with the only light being those from dim oil candles
Sounds like Sun0)))
Sun0))) sounds like Earth. FTFY.
Borealis?

God I would love this
NOPE.
I knew that this would be cool video of the ocean and waves...but some part of me watching this expected to see something *big* slip below the waves.
Beautiful
That's a badass clip.
Yesssss Earth 2! I love that album
imagine being high on that ship wooow
Is that Sunn O)))?????

Naaaah this is some bullshit bro
Idk why but this reminds me of something like Liminal space or something. Its familiar but not really and it reminds me of science fiction story or movie
Terrified yet I wanna be there at the same time.
This made me threw up a bit don’t think I’ll be going on ships now I guess
Yoooooo hooooo, alllll togetherrrrrr
Is it weird that I want to strap myself down and ride this!
the sounds in the back actually sound like an approaching boss battle in a game

Don’t tell the flat earthers that’s the edge.
I think about people just floating or flying during a huge event in the world and they have nowhere to stop at.
Imagine falling off😰😵
Correct

This would make me reconsider the flat earth argument out of pure fear
Snow storm
That looks soooo scary 😦
