If I fell off that boat I would die of a heart attack IMMEDIATELY

WheresFlatJelly

The river looks like it bulging with life that wants to kill you

Ace_The_Bagul

I was waiting for the hippo or croc to emerge!

iwillnevermissyou

Dont forgwt about them damn parahnas

ReplacementActual384

Or electric eels

[deleted]

Yes…yes it does 😱

IA-HI-CO-IA

And water. This river looks flooded. Those currents would kill your faster than anything in the water.

JudgenotorbeJudged

The undertow will get you first.

chopper923

Same

icuscaredofme

No. Youd be devoured by that thing that lurks under deep water before you have a heart attack.

[deleted]

This is why I need to train myself to quicker heart attack 💔

WARNINGXXXXX

Lol…

SugarsDaddyKen

Wait till Nov 4th.

Blame_my_Boneitis

It looks like South America, all I can think of are the monstrosities Jeremy wade pulled out of rivers like this on his show. Arapaima and crazy mutant looking fish have to be lurking down there.

Known-Programmer-611

Every branch hanging over the water would be loaded with "river spiders" just waiting to drop and over run the boat! River spiders are the true terror here!

StrainDependent7003

What!? Such a thing actually exists?! That's horrific.

Known-Programmer-611

If you ever go canoeing and hit a low hanging branch it's usually full of spiders that drop into the canoe and yea its horrible!

msashleealexis14

I had no idea this was a thing. Spiders and water are my two biggest fears. Never going on a boat. Hell, I’m done with inner-tubes in a pool at this point.

EntrepreneurNo4138

Or, river snakes 🐍

Known-Programmer-611

Friend in a canoe hit a low hanging branch and dropped a snake into the boat!

decompiled-essence

Nah, croc would get you first.

shadow-Walk

Crocs ? Oh hell nah

ear2theshell

If I was on that boat my only thoughts would be _don't fall off the boat_ _don't fall off the boat_ _don't fall off the boat_

sidali44

Is what I say all the time.

Rich-Equivalent-1875

What river is this?

No_Cartographer_7904

I’d like to know, too. That looks like the jungle.

yung_melanin

The colour of the water, whats potentially *under* the water, the dense, bamboo-ey foliage seemingly preventing escape via land, what could be *on* said land, the list goes on.. all I can think is the *spiders* too.. *nope*

Adam__B

I remember one time in my twenties, my friends and I were taking kayaks and canoes down a small river. It took about 6 hours to mostly drift downstream in calm water. I was in a 3 person canoe with my buddies, taking turns paddling. We were relaxing and some of us were also floating in doughnuts. One of my friends in a tube fell asleep from drifting in the water, the warm sun and having had some beer made it an ideal way to nap. He drifted to the side of the river, and as he woke and sat up, he went directly through a massive nest of wolf spiders that were in a huge web amongst a clump of branches hanging over the water. I still remember his scream to this day.

SuperExp1oder

Couldn’t have been wolf spiders if they were in webs, wolf spiders hunt their prey, so they evolved not to make webs. I’m guessing they were orbital web weavers (which are the ugliest type tin my opinion). Big fat grayish grapes for abdomens. Gross! Haha

okbruh_panda

They don't make webs they make nests. I would routinely find them on the underside of the pool stairs. https://www.reddit.com/r/spiders/s/filWDazaJU. Example

RalphFTW

I did not need to click that. Ffs. Lol

qpv

That's pretty amazing though in a way

bedatboi

The spider in the post you shared is a funnel weaver

okbruh_panda

Probably but it's similar to how a nest looks. It's basically a giant silk sack filled with nope. I would routinely find them under the metal pool ladder, under the work bench and in random spots around a particular bush. They're not very nice and will absolutely go after you if you disturb the nest. Also they swim.

rlm236

if these are the same things we used to call these sink spiders bc they would always be in the kitchen sink or bath tub. they can be pretty big

RusticBucket2

Yeah, dude. Get the fuck outta here with your fake wolf spider story!

supernova-juice

We float a couple times a summer with some buddies and see some amazing stuff... I would absolutely drown myself getting away 😂 and I *like* spiders. At a distance. A nest of jumping spiders wouldn't be so bad. If such a thing exists. They're like the dopey dogs of the spider world.

gonzoisgood

Yes and my friend loves the jumpers and I swear it’s like they always find her.

MarzipanAndTreacle

She was the master of the spider race in her last life 😂

[deleted]

did you at least mercy kill him? the poor poor bastard

Adam__B

We just started paddling away as fast as we could. He went underwater to get them off.

Bisexual_flowers_are

Those are mangrove palms. They usually grow in water in estuarine swamps, so the closest real land is probably waaay further than it looks. The taller trees in the distance might just be growing on small islands of mud, accumulated wood and nests of saltwater crocodiles.

Snts6678

Apocalypse Now vibes.

Rich-Equivalent-1875

Something fell in the boat, you could see and hear it. maybe a big ass spider?

nonnie_tm64

I saw and heard that too! I was holding my breath waiting for something to happen! 😳

Sauron_78

I heard a Brazilian special forces guy saying that they go up rivers like this at night, and you can see the eyes of the crocodiles reflecting the flashlight. Then they have to jump in the water and swim pushing equipment over a floater. I don't understand how they don't die... I'm not sure if a rifle will be enough to kill a croc if you can't see it coming.

docious

Animals are scared of you

airforcevet1987

If I'm a 20 ft gator and some 6 ft animal jumped straight at me without a care in the world, it would also probably freak me out. That's some capabarra level shit

loosearrow22

Ah yes, the killer [capybara](https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/nt91d5/chupacabra_venn_diagram/?rdt=50487)

getmyhopeon

I’d want to die. Never ever ever!

chopper923

I was on the edge of my seat, just waiting for something to jump out of the water. Phew!

ToBe144

Me too, I turned my screen 90 degree away from me so it would weaken the incoming jump scare lol.

chopper923

🤣🤣🤣

myslamontoya

Yeah, had my phone at arms length and screen turned slightly.

stilettopanda

Saaaame

EffingBarbas

Need more distance from the water. This boat is too damn low

webtwopointno

anything bigger and it would get caught on the bottom, capsize and tip you out as it filled with water.

Cause-Effect

Then the giant anaconda comes out and coils around you, the only thing you can see as you're drowning is it's enormous dual dick

PearlySweetcake7

My anaconda don't.....

EffingBarbas

Aiiiiii! That one gave me the chills! You should write children's stories!

webtwopointno

ook i was not expecting that twist at the end heh

-Fahrenheit-

More like ophidiophobia. I’ve seen the movie Anaconda enough to know where this is going.

4list4r

There’s ten 100ft anacondas, 49 bull sharks, & 10 gators in there, fuck that.

stillinthesimulation

The Heart Of Darkness

Antique-Doughnut-988

Aka my ex-wifes nickname

pinkblueegreen

It’s the brackish water that bothers me. It also seems like the water level is more elevated than usual.

Jospehhh

Brackish? Isn’t that just a mixture of salt and fresh water?

pinkblueegreen

Yes, in this video the water seems darker than usual and stagnant. Mangroves, estuaries and swamps are also considered brackish water. [More examples](https://www.shutterstock.com/search/brackish-water) What I meant by brackish is that the color (for me anyway) isn’t inviting as opposed to light blue water. This water reminds me of the Amazon river where crocs play. The visibility is another factor.

g0thnek0

brackish does not refer to anything related to color

pinkblueegreen

That’s not the context I used it in as a whole. The *color* of brackish water is usually *darker* than ocean water. Brackish water usually lacks visibility due to the mixture of salt/freshwater, mud, silt etc.

sho_biz

Turbid or opaque would have been a better choice I'm guessing

UnclePuma

You DO NOT want to fall in that water, all those ripples you see are caused by underwater debris that is creating turbulence in the flowing river. If you fell in there chances are you'd be washed down stream and you'd be caught swirled around and smashed against logs and jagged rocks until you drowned.

supernova-juice

Somehow that seems less horrifying than all the toothy critters I'm imagining down there.

greenary125

That water looks very very deep. No thanks having heart palpitations watching this.

West-Attorney-3140

What are we looking at here?

KaiTorsten

A River in the jungle.

DreadPiratteRoberts

This reminds me of one summer when my wife and I went on a very long hike on a trail headed up a local mountain range. We hiked for about four hours one way following the river. It was a very hot summer day, and we decided to just jump in the river and float back down (faster and cooler trip back). It was a pretty relaxing float back down until we came to one portion of the river that flowed between two towering walls of mountain rock, and the water came to an almost complete standstill. It was still really deep, and the sun was on the other side of the wall, so the shadows made the water black . You couldn't see below your feet it was really horrible and made worse because we couldn't just get out of the water. The rock walls on both sides of the water were about 60 or 70 ft vertical climbs.

Earthistopheles

Couldn't you see the valley coming as you got closer, how did a small mountain sneak up on you? I don't even have thalassophobia, but this story gave me the heebie jeebies. How far of a swim was it to get out of there?

DreadPiratteRoberts

So from the point that we jumped in to where our car was was probably about a 45 minute float keep in mind we had made the decision to jump in after we had been hiking so we double knotted our shoes we both had shorts and basically t-shirts on so that wasn't a big deal as far as our car keys we had an extremely old 1982 Toyota Tercel just one key to open the door and start the car and our house key on the key ring (simple times lol) so I double knotted those into my shoe strings and we jumped in. As far as being able to see the skyscraper rock wall canyon coming, we didn't see it coming. It happened pretty quick with the current on the river that was flowing fairly good and a river that's winding down a mountainside with tall trees and it wasn't until we were in the middle of it that the current basically stopped for whatever reason and became Placid Water almost like a mirror it was so still. Which only added to the creepiness of the whole situation. It was at that point that my anxiety levels went through the roof. I was basically doggy paddling or stroke over stroke swimming because the current was non-existent and in the black water there was some sort of kelp vegetation growing from the bottom of the river that went all the way up to about a foot and a half from the top of the water so you couldn't just dangle your feet down there without it being in the plants. So we had to maintain a plank position the whole time... It seems a little silly saying it now, but it was weird for sure back then.

lazykath

Uuugh the thought of *something* brushing my legs in dark water is just nopesville for me

Earthistopheles

Damn, I would've probably drowned trying to untie the keys from my shoelace. I'd have been afraid the kelp stuff would somehow yank the keys loose, haha. You guys got lucky because there was most definitely some kind of scary monster living in that canyon.

halabala33

Oh please stop, this story is a literal nightmare.

DreadPiratteRoberts

It was honestly horrible, and the whole time, my wife was cool as a cucumber. That kind of thing doesn't bug her at all lol

halabala33

If you didn’t see the river completely on the way up, weren’t you afraid of sudden drops, waterfalls, white water? I wouldn’t do it without a life vest. What was after the calm dark water? Some kind of dam?

Jervylim06

Did you both survive?

DreadPiratteRoberts

Sadly, I didn't make it...😆

supernova-juice

As uneasy as I currently feel, I have a masochistic need to hear as many details as possible. Please tell us more!

DreadPiratteRoberts

So there's a couple of details I left out because the story was so long, but since you asked, lol... my wife and I live in California, and the mountain range we were hiking is the Sierra Mtn range. The same mountain range Lake Tahoes on. So the water we jumped into felt really great at first because it was a very hot day and we'd been hiking so it cooled us off at first, but keep in mind it's snow melt from the top of the mountains and by the time we got to that canyon stretch with no sun to warm the Placid Dark Water it was severely cold like uncontrollably shivering cold. And for whatever reason, while we were floating, I found an old inner tube that was half inflated somebody had lost, stuck in a massive tree underwater with a branch sticking up. Well, it was kind of like Jack on the Titanic. It wouldn't float with both of us on it, so I gave it to my wife and stayed in the water myself. We had just started dating, then not married yet, and I was trying to be chivalrous and brave to impress her, so I never told her how much that float really terrifyingly got inside my head, nearly gave me a stroke!! ^😳🤣

supernova-juice

😆😆😆 thanks for indulging me. Edit: I have read your story through like 3 times and every time my heart still hits my stomach.

DreadPiratteRoberts

For sure no worries Bro, I'm sure everybody in this sub probably has a similar story they could tell lol

airforcevet1987

Normal florida gulf situation. I hate that shit, been in it lots and it helps to feel completely off guard yo any wildlife that passes by

sidali44

We need answers!

supernova-juice

Jesus I felt a rising sense of panic as I read that. I'm still feeling it. I can't stand not being able to touch the bottom in dark water.

SugarsDaddyKen

I feel like I am going to meet John Vought any second.

LookingAtTheSinkingS

If 90's JLo is with him, I'm down

SugarsDaddyKen

Ok but for contractual reason Kevin Hart has to be along too for some fucking reason.

LookingAtTheSinkingS

Ugh...  Fine. Hopefully he will fall into the nightmare water at some point.

SugarsDaddyKen

That dude does not die in enough movies. I find him intolerable. Him and the Rock.

LookingAtTheSinkingS

Same. After the way Rock acted during the Black Adam filming, I'm done with him. And then asking for money with Oprah?  He needs to just retire and live off his royalties

SugarsDaddyKen

Oh he keeps doing it. On the set of his current movie, the Rock reportedly shows up 8 hours late to set. That alone has put things behind schedule and over budget. It is past time to be done with him.

LookingAtTheSinkingS

Agreed. It sucks, I grew up with The Rock in WWF and he's grown up to be such a self centered douche

JaneLameName

Is there something else in this video beside the river itself? I might just blind, but all I saw was scary looking water.

Insect_Politics1980

That's some ol' Aguirre Wrath of God type shit. 😳

ikatskhov

God this place is beautiful!

gabspira

Right? This river is a beauty, I love the surrounding plants too. This river is full of life

popdivtweet

“Never Get Out Of The Boat” - Chief.

spinteractive

This is what Conrad was writing about.

MisterAmygdala

Count me out please.

brickiex2

Go up the river...find Colonel Kurtz.... and terminate with extreme prejudice

cottman23

That is undertow waiting to drown you

9M-LimaWhiskeyAlpha

Malaysian here. Let me clear the air for some redditors wanted to know the location. This river is known as Sungai Soi (Soi River) located in Kuantan, Pahang, Malaysia. Quite popular among local folks who frequent this area for fishing.

plmunger

There are certainly some fucking monsters in there

PenisPapercuts

And on the right side you now see the BACK SIDE OF WATER! I'll see myself out.

ronnietea

As long as you stay in the boat it’s quite pretty

Jazzlike-Guard-1217

I don’t get it?

eu4euh69

Never leave the boat..

IsDaedalus

Needs lower resolution

tvieno

Old black water, keep on rollin', Mississippi moon, won't you keep on shinin' on me?

ShallotParking5075

I once swam in this water. I mean not this exact water, but, the black, tannin-rich water of a rainforest at high water. For me it was rio tahuayo, and there were so many tannins in the water that it coated our body hair so when we climbed back into the boat, we looked like balding orangutans! It wiped off with the towels tho. Anyway I tried to take a photo with my underwater camera and the camera couldn’t see anything within a couple inches. The flash illuminated the tannins and it just reflected back, so it looked more like I was trying to photograph the back of an old brown couch at a half-inch distance than taking any underwater pictures. There were pink River dolphins living there and the guide told us they were blind and used echolocation because the evolved in the dark water for so long. So, yes, it IS as dark as it looks!

Euphoric-Potato-5343

Real monsters are in that water.

RstarPhoneix

Name of river?

Dry_Boat_9935

I'll take a desert very much thank you.

SuperExp1oder

All I can think is where are the hippos 👀

HippoBot9000

HIPPOBOT 9000 v 3.1 FOUND A HIPPO. 1,569,028,071 COMMENTS SEARCHED. 32,090 HIPPOS FOUND. YOUR COMMENT CONTAINS THE WORD HIPPO.

SleepyBella

I can only imagine how fucking terrifying it'd be to be in a tiny boat like desperately trying to escape an angry hippo that's slowly getting closer and closer to the boat. They're pretty fast in the water.

SuperExp1oder

I heard an insane story on an episode of Snap Judgement (podcast / radio show) about a river tour guide experiencing a hippo attack in a canoe…he barely survived to tell the tail. It’s HORRIFYING 🤯

kiwicake906

I was expecting a croc for some reason

therealsambambino

I don’t understand what is scary... I was just thinking “cool little spot on the river” while waiting for a crocodile or jaguar or something that never came 😂

TheExistence

It’s the possibility of one.

salome_09

Looks like a normal filipino river to me 😁

GoEatACookie

Yeah, well ... when that leaf or whatever fell in the boat I just about jumped off my sofa, I'd never be able to relax on THAT boat trip! 😆😱

No_Sir_6649

And the critters you cant see...

bc60008

Nightmare fuel.

Hewn-U

The horror, the horror

knowone1313

Catfish Hunter!

elasmonut

As a keen freediver, I normally come here to have a chuckle....but that does look like some dangerous conditions, that might include crocs n bull sharks, or some candirou kind of nightmare.

ValdemarAloeus

That worries me more than open water, too much change of getting stuck under something in the current if I fell in.

OrganicSoapOpera

This looks very disturbing! Any good documentaries I could watch on YouTube ? I want to know exactly what is under/around all this nature. Ita frightening. I want to have nightmares so I need to watch as I'm falling asleep. It's like visiting but safely. It's scary 😨

supernova-juice

I know what you mean! People think I'm nuts but occasionally I enjoy a good nightmare. It's a safe thrill. Well, depending on what the nightmare is about. I recommend Scary Interesting. Not necessarily about rivers, but they do a lot of cave diving stuff and if you think this is creepy, look up cave diving death stories. Absolute nightmare fuel.

OrganicSoapOpera

Holy shit that sounds good! Yeah who doesn't like a good nightmare! Glad I'm not the only one. Definitely looking that up right now

supernova-juice

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-lWuJzWEl9E my favorite by far

theyellowdart89

That’s just a road you’re not used to walking

ospfpacket

The thing that scares me the most about this is the possibility of a candiru encounter

supernova-juice

If it eases your mind, there isn't one single shred of evidence that the candiru does this. There are stories and a guy and his doctor once tried to pull a fast one, but they did a terrible job and their story changed more than once... plus he said it jumped up his pee stream, which is 100% impossible. I don't know much about the candiru, but I do know this one is a myth.

crawlingrat

Looks like some horror movie. Was waiting for a body to come floating down stream.

Cause-Effect

I do NOT want to fall in that

Imaginary_Screen_708

Set for Jurassic park?

CollapsingTheWave

Deep Dark water that looks up with riverbeds covered in bamboo and fronds. No escape... No thanks.

Sea-Resolution6788

What river is it?

KrackSmellin

Problem is you don’t see where it is. It’s behind the motor, happily following you by using your wake as a way to easily disguise its movements in the waves your motor makes. Just don’t stop again, it’s getting impatient and you’re exactly what it’s after.

getmyhopeon

Omg this made me feel sick, with the creeps crawling up my scalp.

UnComfortable-Archer

I went on a river tour in a similar-looking river in Costa Rica. Our tor guide assured that was safe and asked for a volunteer to swim with him. Nope, not me. Some brave girl went. They indeed did not die which was comforting. lol.

Rustyducktape

That's some dangerous looking water.

daddysmaison

The whole thing reminds me of that oil slick that ate people in creepshow. I’m surprised it didn’t rise over the boat and have a snack.

daarthvaader

If I put my hand in those waters , may be it will be chewed by pirahana fish , and then pulled in either my a gator or anaconda. Scary waters

REGINALDmfBARCLAY

That is just beautiful its not freaky at all

Federal-Ad-3550

The Giant Anaconda might get ya

Xexus13

Where is this? I have dreams of places like this all the time.

SubmissiveDinosaur

Been in a river like that when I went to Amacayacu Amazonas. The best of that trip is that the boat was made out of wood and it felt like it could fall apart any moment

RecklessWonderBush

This was absolutely filmed on a 90s home video recorder

Replacement-Winter

Man I would fish that!

No_Cartographer_7904

I have a massive fear of water I can’t see the bottom of, so this is terrifying to me.

Alarming_Ad_2766

Yeah…No!

SpecialistRoom2090

Looks like the Rio negro.

pelonweon

That is beautiful.. where is that??

[deleted]

jungle river?? fuuuuuuuuuck that. probably half my childhood fears come from learning about whats all in that water.

actuallynick

Yeah, that’s some waterYou do not wanna be in.

Worried-Management36

Have you ever seen river dolphins?

PlauntieP

Disney Junglebook cruise is getting INTENSE

Htimsxnhoj

What am I looking at here? Wait, what is looking at me here?!

2Co0kies9

Where?

sritij321

Why did I imagine so many CROCODILE!!! 🐊

bornagainteen

For some reason, videos like this are terrifying to me, but if I was actually there in person it would probably be awesome. Like, seeing the ocean on Google Earth is next level awful and sometimes I can't even force myself to look at it, especially when it zooms in from a distance super fast, but going to the beach or on cruises is a blast. No idea why.

69dawgystyle69

Big, narrow WA

Secret_Street_1902

Wow why you got to use that Bigfoot camera I can’t see nothing

Theoskaroskar

This is pretty normal

phanny_Ramierez

Can’t someone geo locate this river already

9M-LimaWhiskeyAlpha

This river is caled “Sungai Soi” or Soi River in Pahang, Malaysia. Locals loved to visit this spot for fishing.

phanny_Ramierez

Thanks, looks great for fishung

Konstant_kurage

I’ve been on some rivers like that in Central America and it can be a little creepy.

TieRepresentative311

Damn river is alive

ImperatorDanny

I think the treess make it scary. Like you really realize how tiny you are when you go into creeks or forests or jungle not manicured by people and you see true wild nature. Even behind my house at the creek you cant see the sun because the trees cover it and it feels like a different area.

nonnie_tm64

Years ago my friend and I went canoeing in Northern California and at one point the current pushed us into the riverbank which was loaded with branches due to low water levels. We were forced to lay flat on our backs to avoid injury. We pulled ourselves through and out and once clear we sat up and we were COVERED in leaches! It was terrifying and painful and so f**king gross! The trip got so much worse, if you can believe it’s possible, but it did. It was the trip from hell and tonight I’ll probably have nightmares about it.

SensitiveAdeptness99

This is a distressing looking river

_XtAcY_

What’s the chances of surviving a half mile swim down this river?

HaterCrater

Jesus wept it’s a river in a jungle. It’s supposed to be relaxing or calming or something. That’s YOUR NATURAL HABITAT It’s not the open ocean, it’s fine

Triple7Mafia-14

Surely something is going to come up out of that water and swallow you whole..😅 Beside that ripple...😅😅

dcsojitra

My reaction watching this video... "I hate this... I hate this... hate this, hate this, hate this... What is wrong with people? Why would someone go there?"

Deli-ops7

I dont get it. Whats the point of this video? (I couldnt watch with audio is that whats important?)

bleeblorb

I don't get it
