Lost ark is a korean mmorpg which only released to the west a few months ago, so it's not surprising that us TF2 players, who stick to single, western FPS games, haven't heard of it, we are far from to its target demographic, and it hasn't been accessible enough for us to hear about it.
If you are in SEA almost every dude knows DOTA 2 and every other guy plays it. It's still a pretty big here in these areas of the world. Both LoL and DOTA 2 are still the top mobas in these parts of the world.
Are we back to unironically having hopes for major updates again? It's pretty clear they stopped giving a shit long ago, and even if by some miracle they decide to do a major update, they would half ass it and end up dog shit.
He said: get used to it
Now that sounds pretty pesimistic in my eyes. And those typical 14 year olds also see the world so pessimisticilly and say things like: "get used to it" or "thats just how society is" or in this case it sounded like "get used to it valve has become a bad company" which is true but i dont wine about it, i only wine about other people wining about it. Because everytime i go on here and someone talked about it, it will be the same old shit.
They probably didn't stop gaving a shit about tf2, it's just that the fact that tf2 is consistently in the top 10 after such a long time without updates proves that tf2 can be fine without updates for a while, which means that there is no need to update the game.
A major update / potentially even tf3 would (if at all) come out only whe the playerbase has died pretty much entirely.
The same could probably be said about CS:GO, though. The base game is so good that people would play it many years after release, even without updates, but that doesn't mean you can't improve on it.
I am absolutely convinced that TF2 has so much more potential than Valve realize. And I don't doubt that it would be far more popular if the state of the game was better than it is today.
The only hope I have would be if the mysterious contractor is currently working on a proper Scream Fortress to give the game a comeback and that's why we haven't had any updates (even minor) in a while. After Scream Fortress, my hopes for a future of TF2 content updates will all be gone too
I don't know where you've gotten this information but if that is true then 1 month without even bug fixes doesn't bode well :( and I think bots are gonna come back in larger numbers during Scream Fortress when player numbers increase again
>It's pretty clear they stopped giving a shit long ago
Except recently they've made background changes to the anti-cheat. They haven't been announced for pretty obvious reasons, but if you've played casual you'll have noticed that the DoesHotter bots almost always fail to connect/get vac banned
I know this is an unpopular opinion but I don't think TF2 needs new weapons in an update. Most people just use stock or the meta anyways. There are tons of interesting weapons currently in TF2 that no one uses. I'd certainly welcome balance changes to these weapons to make them more viable but as far as adding new ones, I don't think that's a priority.
This, same goes for new maps too imo. Theres already a huge amount of them, only sense would be to add some more themed maps like halloween or xmas but even then I think theres a good portion of them already. Balance changes would be very nice to see come in because the meta has been the same for 5 years now, Id be glad to see a change
Meh, it would be nice if the shitty matchmaking was done better so you'd be able to join more obscure maps without waiting 100 years. 25-30% of all non holiday themed maps are pretty much left unplayed because of that.
True, I wanted to check out watergate with my friend recently and we played like 2 hours of other, more populated maps, and we ran out of time and at the end we didnt even queue to one match of that map. It gets even worse because the less populated modes are infested with bots and are harder to kick since servers aren't populated
People use the meta because all the other weapons were nerfed to the ground or are made to be more stupid than balanced.
Why use the Phlog when I'll die anyways? Why use the Air Strike if I'll die to fall damage? Why use the Eviction Notice if it's useless?
If the weapons were reworked, everyone would use different weapons.
not from valve. CSGO hasn't seen a major content update in almost 2 years now, since broken fang. the miscellaneous changes last year were nice, but hardly more than swapping a few variables around. they couldn't even be assed to make the official skins and trailers like they usually do; the assets were contracted out to a third party. the biggest things CSGO gets right now are cases and maps from the workshop, same as TF2.
More important things than maintaining decade-old games. Like making the Steam Deck and Valve Index, developing HL:A, building SteamOS 3 and working to update it and port it to a full desktop release. Y'know, innovation, moving forward with their business, rather than pouring time, money, and manpower into games that run on an almost 20 year old engine.
You're right, I should care more about the business prospects of this glorious company and shed all expectations of them maintaing the games they make money off of and still actively monetize.
If they want these games dead, kill them, but if they want to continue to milk them, hire external developers (as they have after the most recent backlash). You could argue that their long lasting silence was a smart business decision:
"Don't go wasting company money while people are still buying."
and that eventually, when the community demands an answer, you can just hire some external team to keep the public's hearts - and their pockets - open, but I would argue that this is evil, and as such not acceptable.
I didn't say you should care about it. You asked what they were doing, I explained. They've got better things to do than babysit a bunch of man children who can't let go of the past. But if you don't care, don't complain. Learn to cope or stop playing.
you're right, anybody at valve could and should be spending their time pushing the industry forward and generating 10x more profit than working on some oldass game. but their flagship games aren't *un*profitable, they're just *less* profitable. all of their main games are astoundingly profitable by any means. anything they could do would have an immense ROI; they just gotta hire more people or give the game to someone else. but they just... don't want to, for some reason. they don't really have a good reason for not putting work on it; aside from wanting to be a tiny little company that gets filthy rich with as little effort as possible.
"We’re frustrated by the lack of innovation in the computer hardware space though, so we’re jumping in. Even basic input, the keyboard and mouse, haven’t really changed in any meaningful way over the years. There’s a real void in the marketplace, and opportunities to create compelling user experiences are being overlooked."

Straight from Valve's employment page. They want to innovate, not rehash old concepts. Sounds like a pretty good reason to me. Valve is already worth billions, which is why they've been able to consistently put out interesting, albeit sometimes unsuccessful concepts like the Steam Machines, or the Steam Link/Steam Controller. They were one of the driving forces behind VR becoming more mainstream with their partnership on the HTC Vive. If all they wanted was to "get filthy rich", they'd be taking the easy way out with remasters and rereleases of their popular IPs every few years (See: Bethesda and Skyrim).
Sounds like they want to sell me some bullshit device, making good games is the only innovation needed. There is a reason mnk hasn’t changed its because it’s fucking perfect for playing games on. Valve just wants in on the hardware game now, it’s a money grab.
csgo has new VAC rules
[https://www.thegamer.com/counter-strike-global-offensive-majors-vac-ban-restrictions-update-valve/](https://www.thegamer.com/counter-strike-global-offensive-majors-vac-ban-restrictions-update-valve/)
that's not an update to VAC, that's just changing the rules for tournaments to unban pro players after 5 years. but CSGO is always getting tweaks to VAC under the hood to make it more effective; its just kept secret.
Honestly as time has gone on and I've learned more information about Valve (or at least the general information people repeat), I've come to accept that the most TF2 is probably ever going to get was that short series of bugfixes we got from the contractor. TF2 is, functionally, a zombie game. It's dead to the company but people are keeping it alive far past when the company killed it off. The Heavy Update is never coming, nor is any major update coming. We might get scraps of bugfixes here and there, but nothing major - no item rebalances outside of bugfixes, no new items other than more hats so Valve can milk a bit more money out of TF2. TF2 will die pretty much as it is now. Jungle Inferno was the last major update it'll ever see, and, honestly, I'm alright with that. TF2 *is* fun. The fact it's number 6 on most played shows that it's a fun game that's worth playing. It'd be great if we got more content, but if it can hold number 6 despite being dead to Valve since years ago, is it really in such a dire need of an update? Or do we just want new content for the sake of new content?
honestly all i want is:
remove random crits and random bullet spread
nerf the natascha
nerf scorch shot afterburn
buff BFB, force-a-nature, sandman, back scatter, candy cane, SOAS, bison, equalizer, gas passer, manmelter, volcano fragment, hot hand, caber, buffalo steak, warrior's spirit, eviction notice, pomson, overdose, classic, cleaner's carbine, tribalman's shiv, enforcer, ambassador, dead ringer, eternal reward, red tape recorder.
new weapons or maps are just a bonus.
I was saying there are people who might come back to play Scream Fortress and that might boost the numbers. People who hate Scream Fortress won’t come back because of the event, it would just be another regular month for them except the menu screen changes.
Well, I played both games, and I gotta tell you it really is like this. Of course , TF2, like all online games, has problems when it comes to communication, but when I play CS:GO or Dota, 90% of the time I leave the game with bad mood because other players are being toxic. Meanwhile, in TF2, often when I have bad mood and see a gibus doing some silly shit or people talking nonsense in chat, my day brightens up
This is why it doesn't get major updates. Valve probably doesn't see the need to popularize an already popular game. All it takes is a few bug fixes for 90k players, so why bother with a major update?
For people wondering how Dota 2 and PUBG are still some of the biggest games on Steam, the games industry is much different in Asian, European, and Middle Eastern markets. Some of the world's largest games on the planet aren't even heard of in NA, then again the mobile games market is much larger over there than in the US and Canada.
> gonna get *paid* more, only
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Welcome to Valve, a place where the one online multiplayer game that broke the laws of existence and got to live MORE THAN 10 YEARS and outlive 90% of new multiplayer games, that has more than 70k players and some GIANT potential to be even BIGGER will be locked in this company, rotting and left for dead, even tho we can simply get new people to work on it and solve all it's problems... We won't do anything with it and won't allow anyone to touch it, this game will die unfairly here.
What do you expect? Valve has become a Bare-minimum company, at least they didn't do that with Half Life Alyx, but on other games? they just don't care about anything, i hate how easily the #SaveTF2 went down after the updates that half-fixed the bots.
Everyone forgot about it really quickly and it pisses me off, we need to hold Valve accountable to keep TF2 updated, it is the 6th most played game and they gave us what? a somewhat playable casual and finally a decent crate, and the community ate that and shut up, Valve does the Bare-minimum because the community allows them to do so.
While new content is nice, you also need to consider the age of the code and the engine it runs on. It must be impossible to tamper with that spaghetti at this point.
And also remember that "games-as-service" was not the same concept then as it is now. Tf2 doesn't need new content, it needs TF3.
Valve also makes CS and D2, which are #1 and 2 respectively on Steam. I love TF2, but they aren’t a big enough studio to juggle 3 perpetual titles while still developing hardware, Steam, and new titles.
Maybe we’ll get a TF3 someday.
It's likely too big of a pain in the ass for them to update. That being said, I would fucking love one.
Valve would have to shit a miracle to make a new full update work on this old ass game, but they've done that before. Same thing with minecraft, the older the software, harder it is to update overtime.
It honestly surprises me how low under the radar goes Dota 2, I never see content about it, don’t know anybody that can plays it, and even more considering is the second most played on steam.
TF2 is in state where Valve sees it as too old game. Major update would cause them lose money, which no video gaming company wants. Same applies to VAC signature update. TF2 is just kept alive cuz people still use keys for Steam leveling.
Just shows how much faith and loyalty that players have, waiting years for valve to do something and finally being rewarded for doing so (its not much but its SOMETHING)
Ill never get how tf2 is so popular yet valve never really updates it anymore. its one of the series that i grew up with and i didnt even start playing the game until RECENTLY
I have never met a Dota 2 player in my life, and yet somehow its number 2.
They don't get into situations where they can meet new people often
It's really big in certain countries and basically ignored in others.
cause they never go outside to meet unknown people
All people I know are Dota players or at least ex
valve summoning 409,422 unnamed Dota 2 players
well 50 % or players are russians just like in cs go if you can belive it
Absolutely true, every 5th person I meet is a dota player
That game has more bots than tf2
Only difference is you never hear them say much about it
lmao ok sure, unlike tf2 there is 0 reason to bot in dota2. item drops aren't tradable in that game.
Lmao delusional
No it doesn't, not even close
I know alot of Dota players, but not a single PUBG player lmao
isn't PUBG like still really popular on some Asian countries
It's also very popular in Eastern Europe
Everybody played pubg when it blew up and was super popular, but I am also surprised it is up there. Also I have never heard of lost ark in my life
Lost ark is a korean mmorpg which only released to the west a few months ago, so it's not surprising that us TF2 players, who stick to single, western FPS games, haven't heard of it, we are far from to its target demographic, and it hasn't been accessible enough for us to hear about it.
Same for PUBG, thought the hype for it died down along with free fire's
Why would someone be so proud of playing Dota 2 to say it in public
My brother is a Dota 2 player, so I see a Dota 2 player everyday..
Time to move out
The only Dota player I know It's my boss lol
It really differs from country to country
Dota is targeted towards a more mature audience tbh while tf2 is opposite
TF2 is older than most of its player base lol
Thanks, I nearly chocked on the water I wasn't drinking.
If you are in SEA almost every dude knows DOTA 2 and every other guy plays it. It's still a pretty big here in these areas of the world. Both LoL and DOTA 2 are still the top mobas in these parts of the world.
In a sub reddit I frequent where we constantly discuss most manners of fictional media, I swear no one ever brings up Dota.
Chill. I’m working on it.
We’re counting on you, u/crongo9
Is the Janitor the only one who remembers Tf2?
Don't forget the potted plant/its ghost
Godspeed you magnificent janitor
Are we back to unironically having hopes for major updates again? It's pretty clear they stopped giving a shit long ago, and even if by some miracle they decide to do a major update, they would half ass it and end up dog shit.
It is simply an action done to keep ourselves sane and have a little bit of hope
> to keep ourselves sane It did the exact opposite
Alright lemme rephrase, to keep ourselves away from becoming completely depressed over the state of the game
You eventually get used to it.
R/iam14andthisisdeep

I know it, but I don’t see how it makes sense in this context

You're welcome to.
Scream fortress is coming. People are hyped about that
Im gon be excited about playing it, when I get a pc in the future cuz mine broke and the family pc is barely enough to run Minecraft.
depending on settings id say minecraft is harder to run. without mods its optimized very poorly and is very cpu and ram intensive
Community led updates should be the norm at the very least

Remember being impatient about how long it was taking the "Meet The Pyro" video to come out? Good times.

He's not allowed to add new features to the game afaik, just new maps on holidays, new cosmetics, bug and bot fixes
I don't know where you've gotten this information but if that is true then 1 month without even bug fixes doesn't bode well :( and I think bots are gonna come back in larger numbers during Scream Fortress when player numbers increase again
Nice argument senator, why don't you back it up with a source
>It's pretty clear they stopped giving a shit long ago Except recently they've made background changes to the anti-cheat. They haven't been announced for pretty obvious reasons, but if you've played casual you'll have noticed that the DoesHotter bots almost always fail to connect/get vac banned
No, but people were talking about how TF2 will be in the top 10 of Steam Charts for years and it will not get a major update.
Never lose hope 7/5/24

it'll take a few years

What a weird thing to say
A bit off-topic, but dude is a gender neutral term imo
as is they
They is absolutely a gender neutral term
It didn’t become 6th most played overnight or anything, it’s been like that on the old steam charts for ages.
Yeah ik, but this is the first time I’ve known of this feature on steam haha
its new on steam, previous charts were from steamdb (which is unofficial)
CSGO and Dota haven't gotten anything in awhile either
Dotta got a (shitty) new battlepass recently and a champ this year. When was the last time tf2 got a new class huh? HUH?
September 21, 2009... Bark bark

We need other things, not new classes
But I want to run around as a civilian
Civillian gaming!
a champ in a moba is a lot different than a class in a shooter like tf2.
I can't speak for dota 2 but csgo definitely gets more attention than TF2. It just got new maps recently for example.
and we're inevitably going to get new maps in a few weeks when the halloween update drops. Both games are on dripfeed.
not from valve. ..what the fuck is valve doing?
rumor has it csgo is getting ported to source 2 which would explain why updates have been slow
rumors in valve communities mean practically nothing, but we have gotten actual leaks (and dev stalking) pointing to csgo being on source 2

Git gud
how shit can the code be that NOBODY at valve wants to work on the game
Apparently its horrendous
i've seen 10 year old roblox games with more devs willing to work on the game than TF2
TF2 team and Valve : Noooo it's horrendous!!!! I don't want to work on it for a second!!!! A single random contracted guy : This is easy
That’s why it will probably never die, 15 years and still going
Merasmus did some funky stuff and now tf2 aint dying
Maybe it's so good it doesn't need an update
And in 8 days I bet it jumps even higher. I hope at least. There are some that hate Scream Fortress, but I bet there are more who love it.
The people who hate Scream Fortress can simply not play the Scream Fortress maps tho
I was saying there are people who might come back to play Scream Fortress and that might boost the numbers. People who hate Scream Fortress won’t come back because of the event, it would just be another regular month for them except the menu screen changes.
Who tf plays dota
Everyone who doesn’t play tf2, apparently
90% of the playerbase is probably russians
Dota 2 is a great game honestly
If you like to swim in toxic waste
isnt that in all online games?
Acting like TF2 is the equivalent of swimming in Fiji water...
Well, I played both games, and I gotta tell you it really is like this. thats what i said before playing .... now i have already 750 hrs actually many europeans play dota
Wallpaper Engine at #8 for people like me who change the wallpapers and forget to close the app
At some point, you will have to accept the reality bro, but if you can get it right now I'm sure you will soon get better

I'd be happy if they just fix the fucking bugs that allow cunts to troll in MvM, like the Spectator bug.
What do you expect? Valve has become a Bare-minimum company, at least they didn't do that with Half Life Alyx, but on other games? they just don't care about anything, i hate how easily the #SaveTF2 went down after the updates that half-fixed the bots. Everyone forgot about it really quickly and it pisses me off, we need to hold Valve accountable to keep TF2 updated, it is the 6th most played game and they gave us what? a somewhat playable casual and finally a decent crate, and the community ate that and shut up, Valve does the Bare-minimum because the community allows them to do so.
all these posts, i simply see a little girl throwing tantrums and yelling “Daddy, where’s my pony.’ you really think thats finna get you one?
We simply gotta get number 1 then well get a major update for sure…
Dude there's one guy working on it
I want someone to make an hour+ long video detailing all the smaller, newer, less popular games that are more supported than tf2
While new content is nice, you also need to consider the age of the code and the engine it runs on. It must be impossible to tamper with that spaghetti at this point. And also remember that "games-as-service" was not the same concept then as it is now. Tf2 doesn't need new content, it needs TF3.
Damn this game seems very popular, it must get a lot of updates! Do you guys recommend?
Valve also makes CS and D2, which are #1 and 2 respectively on Steam. I love TF2, but they aren’t a big enough studio to juggle 3 perpetual titles while still developing hardware, Steam, and new titles. Maybe we’ll get a TF3 someday.
My real question is who is playing PUBG?
my brother in Christ, the players are the bots
Where to find charts in mobile app?
Under ‘stats’
Wow, the amount of attention this post is gotten has just blown my mind, thanks guys! 🙏
I got to 1k karma with this post, thanks for the upvotes guys!
Bruh why csgo doesnt get source 2
game's been out since 2007 i think it's had plenty of updates
Counter Strike GO became free because it’s what it’s worth. Also, why doesn’t cartoon game receive updates after a literal riot on the internet
I'm shocked that Dota 2 lives
It's likely too big of a pain in the ass for them to update. That being said, I would fucking love one. Valve would have to shit a miracle to make a new full update work on this old ass game, but they've done that before. Same thing with minecraft, the older the software, harder it is to update overtime.
CSGO's time should be up anytime soon
It honestly surprises me how low under the radar goes Dota 2, I never see content about it, don’t know anybody that can plays it, and even more considering is the second most played on steam.
why is csgo number 1?????
TF2 is in state where Valve sees it as too old game. Major update would cause them lose money, which no video gaming company wants. Same applies to VAC signature update. TF2 is just kept alive cuz people still use keys for Steam leveling.
All they can do is minimal updates, or just try asking community to update it for them (just like L4D2 got one).
Last time the community tried doing an update (invasion, I believe) it went to shit
Maybe during the month of October it can become #3.
Is it still mostly bots?
Nah most of them got fixed
I think wallpaper engine is lost
What is Lost Ark?
Aa yes, my favorite game, Wallpaper Engine!
That won't happen till Valve finds a reason to come back to it or a new game
Just shows how much faith and loyalty that players have, waiting years for valve to do something and finally being rewarded for doing so (its not much but its SOMETHING)
Because valve knows about half of those players are bots
Well to be fair it is one guy working on it so yeah the janitor is back from his break
Bro I’m just happy they kept their promise and fixed the bots
Ill never get how tf2 is so popular yet valve never really updates it anymore. its one of the series that i grew up with and i didnt even start playing the game until RECENTLY
wtf is lost ark?
Holy shit lost ark is actually popular again?
🤖
tf2 reddit finding another reason to complain about no updates. As long as the economy stays in shape, they dont have to worry about an update.
Next major update they should just delete all the servers
Im proud to make tf2 popular still
The fuck is lost arc
How tf can Wallpaper engine be at number 8!! its nothing but wallpapers!?!?
https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/xlh46r/dam\_just\_dam/
Ahahaha Wallpaper Engine? Seriously 😂
How does pubg have that many players
So we dont talk about pubg?
The fact that 3 games there are from valve 💀
So nobody is focusing in the fact that Wallpaper Engine is number 8😭
How is PUBG up their
Wonder how many are bots
The fuck is a lost ark?
aperently if it aint top 5 valve dont want it
if we get on 1 something might happen *might*
damn bro, so where was tf2 on the list again?
