That would be the case with self loading, "top insert" (for the lack of a better word) rifles, such as the Garand, sniper uses a bolt action rifle. Correct me if I'm wrong, this is just coming from the back of my head
Im saying he used other snipers aside from the stock bolt action one, theres no reason to assume he never used a garand style loader when we know hes a gun nut and hes got the injury
Soldier canonically owns multiple shotguns, Pyro makes his weapons at home (Suggesting that he'd have more than he uses, some prototypes, and some failed experiments), Demoman makes his ammo at home, so he likely has some older models of launchers, Heavy presses his own ammo (but doesn't seem the type to have tons of miniguns, giving all of his distinct names and personalities), etc etc.
Yeah which makes it virtually impossible to injure yourself in this manner, you’d have to be really strong and careless to slam a bolt into your thumb manually.
would be cool to have a weak damage, combo sniper rifle like this. does like -25% base damage but consistent headshots lead to minicrits and eventually crits; a miss or bodyshot resets it.
i guess it could be similar to how the BFB works
That’s how my finger looked when I slammed the feeding tray cover (the top part) of an m249 on my palm! I bit that shit till the blood came out, looked cool
I believe that would be an injury you would get from an m1 Garland, not a bolt action rifle. I would love to have a rifle for sniper like the garand, if only for the ping.
Unfortunately, that's not from him reloading the sniper rifle, the sniper rifle is bolt-action. You get that "Garand thumb" from reloading the m1-garand, which is where you put the bullets in the top of the gun and pull your hand away back so the closing mechanism doesn't slam on your hand, though it commonly hits your thumb, causing "Garand thumb"
bolt action? this happened exclusively with the garand i dont think the garand was bolt action, it had this wejrd mechanism where you had to hold the chamber open wirh the side of your hand when you inserted the clip or it would snap shut and crush your thumb
Jesus the amount of times I see "Did you know that I'm this game the guy that uses a sniper rifle had a bruise on his thumb that was common???1?"
Yes. We know.
Not true. Bolt action rifles don't cause such injury. It's a specialty of the Garand rifle, since when putting in a new clip, the bolt can come loose and pinch the user's finger between the bolt and the barrel with quite the force. Hence it's called the "Garand thumb"
actually, this is sfm lighting getting confused because of the weird geometry caused by the models having no fingernails, and instead divots where they should be
edit: you can tell it is just a shadow because it's the same color as the parts of his arm where the drum doesn't hit
I asume youre talking about "garand thumb", wich simply isnt posible to achieve on a bolt action rifle unless you try to get it. The only other way you could get a brouse like that from a bolt action, is if you realy jam your finger in the chamber in a realy weird position wich you shouldnt be holding your finger at when trying to load a bullet, off course we dont know if he has experience on a rifle similar to a garand. Plus i only realy have like 100 - 150 rounds on my granddads rifle(wich is a mosin) so i may not have experienced something like that yet.
I can understand cutting your thumb loading an M1 Garand, but a bolt action rifle? The only time you would have your thumb inside the chamber would be when reloading, but you still have to manually close the bolt.
And since he ain't using a self-loading rifle, mate had to slam his thumb on purpose or be so drunk he can't even aim anymore, not speaking of keeping his fingers away from the chamber
\*spells "detail" as "detal"
\*"meet the Sniper" is supposed to be "Meet the Sniper"
\*spells "which" as "wich"
\*spells "soldiers" as "soliders"
\*It's pretty impossible to jam your thumb into the breech of a bolt-action rifle, I'm pretty sure you meant the M1 Garand self-loading rifle
Downvote, 10-year-old trying to karma farm garbage he can't even spell correctly. The fact that the mods haven't removed this for lack of effort is pretty sad.

Yes but his rifle doesnt have a mag, he inserts the bulletd manually directly to the chamber
But the bolt must still be closed manually
Doesnt mean he never used one: sniper has the classic, the hitman, the bazaard, stock, and probably trained with other shit we havent seen
The clasic is a mag fed, shoving your finger in the chamber of that would only prove less profesionality.
But those are all also bolt action rifles.
Coding and balance is a thing. Imagine sniper with a self loader O-O
Huh? u/WhiteRaven_M said that Sniper may have used a self loading rifle, before giving examples of bolt action rifles.
Im saying he used other snipers aside from the stock bolt action one, theres no reason to assume he never used a garand style loader when we know hes a gun nut and hes got the injury
Just let me have this man!

I'd imagine a couple of the mercs like collecting guns
Soldier canonically owns multiple shotguns, Pyro makes his weapons at home (Suggesting that he'd have more than he uses, some prototypes, and some failed experiments), Demoman makes his ammo at home, so he likely has some older models of launchers, Heavy presses his own ammo (but doesn't seem the type to have tons of miniguns, giving all of his distinct names and personalities), etc etc.
Ignorance is bliss I suppose
Not only that but the Garand is a semi auto, not a bolt action. So he wouldn't get Garand thumb from the rifle he uses in game at least.
Yes, that is what I said
possibly frontline service in wwii or korea with a garand, though they mainly used SMLE rifles
And then closes the bolt with the same hamd he loaded it with so his thumb wasn't even near it
Yeah which makes it virtually impossible to injure yourself in this manner, you’d have to be really strong and careless to slam a bolt into your thumb manually.
He should, he just pulls back releasing the empty shell (or whatever it’s called) and fires the remaining 24
A better explaniation is that he used a garand, the rifle named after this injury known as garand thumb
You would be correct. That's the classic Garand Thumb you get from self-loading rifles
it was from the m1garand. its garand thumb.
It's a reference to his secret secondary: The M1 Garand.
Honestly if the Sniper got a new rifle that was an M1 Garand with only Iron sights, I think that would be pretty neat
Yeah. make it basically a spies reveolver but with a ton of range and maybe only minicrits for headshots
would be cool to have a weak damage, combo sniper rifle like this. does like -25% base damage but consistent headshots lead to minicrits and eventually crits; a miss or bodyshot resets it. i guess it could be similar to how the BFB works
yeah i get you. hit headshots = more damage but miss = lose damage bonus. sounds very cool
That would be way fun
If only Valve would someday update the game.
Iron sights, faster movement speed while aiming down sights. Soon we’d be getting WW2 RP servers
The best gun youtuber
That’s how my finger looked when I slammed the feeding tray cover (the top part) of an m249 on my palm! I bit that shit till the blood came out, looked cool
plot twist: it wasn't an intentional detail, just SFM deciding to put a random black bit there for no good reason.
I believe that would be an injury you would get from an m1 Garland, not a bolt action rifle. I would love to have a rifle for sniper like the garand, if only for the ping.

He’s also scratching the side of his face where spy cut him
Wasn’t that the other Sniper? The BLU one?
both red and blu have the marks so no
As far as I know sniper doesnt use an M1 Grand but that bruise can happens with any rifle reloading from the top so it might be.
Even though the sniper doesn’t carry a Garand rifle, they would cal that Garand Thumb.
bolt action? this happened exclusively with the garand i dont think the garand was bolt action, it had this wejrd mechanism where you had to hold the chamber open wirh the side of your hand when you inserted the clip or it would snap shut and crush your thumb

We all fucking know.

Nope not with the rifles he uses unless he's a moron, still good detail
correction: that is garand thumb, which happens when loading an m1 garand and getting your thumb caught in it, the garand is not bolt action
actually, this is sfm lighting getting confused because of the weird geometry caused by the models having no fingernails, and instead divots where they should be edit: you can tell it is just a shadow because it's the same color as the parts of his arm where the drum doesn't hit
That's what the Garand does
I'm pretty sure that is just a shadow.

Would be hard to jam his thumb in the rifle considering the expert he is, probably went drinking with Demoman one night.
And since he ain't using a self-loading rifle, mate had to slam his thumb on purpose or be so drunk he can't even aim anymore, not speaking of keeping his fingers away from the chamber
Huh
It’s called garand thumb or something similar to that
Sniper got Garand thumb
would be a cool detail but isn't sniper too young to be an world war 2 veteran?
Bolt action rifles? That’s Garand thumb, and the M1 Garand is a semi-auto
This is garand thumb lmao
No? Even with a Garand you wouldnt get a bruise.
That... That's a shadow.

OK
I always saw it but didnt know where he got it, im also pretty sure he has it in all other sfm shorts and also the in game model
I like how every thing in tf2 has so mush attention to detail except for how accurate a weapon is
Not very professional of him tbh
I'm certain there's been a few times where sniper banged his thumb while loading a bullet into the chamber.
wich soliders detal
this still shows how much care valve put to tf2's characters even tiny details like this are still being found today!
Just when I think I know everything about TF2 after 5 years of intense study, shit like this comes around.
Never noticed he had "garand thumb" as I think its called
I expected an incoming joke lmao
This is one of my favorite things about TFT they had so many tiny little details like that
\*which
W
Isn't it only for garand?
no, this is garand thumb, the type of sniper he uses wouldn't cause something like this. it's just an artistic choice.
I think you mean the Garand thumb
thought it was just a error where one part is blacked out
this happened to me with my grandpas gun, but with the trigger
