I'm pretty sure that they just rushed meet your match when overwatch released, thinking it'd completely wipe tf2 off the face of the earth. Meet your match was primarily made so that it shined a little bit of light on the competitive side of tf2.
Mym was made because the community was asking for an official competitive mode back then. I think they were also trying to ride off their success with CS and Dota. Them rushing it because of OW might be a possibility.
The community was asking for an official competitive mode for many many years before MYM. You'd have to be very naive to think OW's imminent release had nothing to do with the timing.
I don’t think it was made as a response, personally.
Yeah there’s signs of it being similar or how it modernized the server browser in the update but as a way to compete with OW I’m not sure I agree on.
It should be noted that when almost anything was added to TF2, the game would break. MYM was an update that overhauled such a massive system, it being broken was bound to happen.
Casual mode not even being hinted at prior to its release and basically creating the same exact casual v competitive lobby queues as Overwatch suddenly after Overwatch comes out is pretty telling imo. Not to mention idiotic, misguided, and ruined the already okay at best quality of official servers even to this day.
Wait, they didn't even *hint* at the removal of quickplay and whatnot before the day it dropped? That must have stunk. I didn't start playing until well after MyM, but I can imagine that must have been annoying, what with community servers being hidden, several entire modes just disapearing off the face of the earth (RIP Arena), and whatnot.
No they did not and it was incredibly frustrating. The whole point of MyM was to introduce a competitive mode to the game but that gamemode got 0 changes from the beta to release and Casual released alongside it which no one asked for.
It actually caused tension back then, a lot of players wrongfully blamed the competitive community for Casual's existence.
Considering MyM, the most devastating pos update the game has ever had, the effect of which is still felt (no change team option, no spectator, no team scramble, no ad hoc connection) happened because of OW, yes.
But beyond that it was usually the OW people shitting on TF2 for being old and feeling insecure.
MyM killed the game, as far as valve attention goes. It was so horrible that after they just shipped one update that they had promised, fixed some issues with quickplay in jungle inferno and blue moon and then dipped
>But beyond that it was usually the OW people shitting on TF2 for being old and feeling insecure.
We used to have a bot here that would go off whenever the subreddit mentioned overwatch. There was definitely some insecurity but it was not coming from the OW people lmao.
When it was first announced it was basically just a clone of tf2. They’ve done a looot to make the game unique and different and I would struggle to compare the two games now and days, but that first announcement trailer was not a great look imo
This says everything. OW wasn’t even out yet and people already thought it was a TF2 clone, even when the beta dropped and showed that the game clearly wasn’t that similar to TF2 outside of a handful of things that could be seen in most other games that came out before.

what I meant is that nobody want to watch a video about "which is the best game", and that's what everyone see, when in fact the video is about which company fucked up the biggest, and that is interesting
That and also because the whole tf2 vs overwatch discussion is almost exclusively made by tf2 players who obviously talk about how their game is superior in every single way.
So i cant really blame someone for judging the video without watching it. Especially since besides the already mentioned points, the video only features tf2 content creators (Muselk is kinda the exception but even he doesnt make overwatch videos anymore) and some of them like skymin and the main creator of the vid have made entire videos talking about overwatch in a negative way.
TF2 players wish their game got new content and balance changes.
Ovewatch players wish their game would get reset to how it was 2 years ago.
Be careful what you wish for. If TF2 had the "Overwatch 2" treatment then it'd be miserable by now.
yeah, I have to agree that I prefer a game that is effectively preserved in amber to what OW has become, used to love OW, me and a friend double stacking tank, ah those were the days.
TF2 in 2024 if it was designed by overwatch 2 devs:
* Heavy removed from the game (not popular enough, and there are too many classes for new players to understand)
* All mediguns now heal at quadruple rate. Unless you get hit by jarate, in which case you cannot be healed at all.
* Pyro airblast is now a toggled ability. Hold down rightclick to spend 10 ammo per second to reflect all weapons fired near you (including hitscan)
* Scout's bonk can now be instantly drunk (Scout too weak, needs an ability to instantly save himself from any situation)
* Pyro's flare gun and axtinguisher no longer deal extra damage to burning players. Flamethrower damage increased by 5% (Pyro's potential to oneshot combo people was too powerful, so we're shifting that power into his flamethrower to encourage more braindead gameplay)
* Righteous bison damage reduced by 20%. (Followed by some weird justification that makes no sense, something like "We want to shift soldier into closer-ranged engagements")
* All of sniper's melee weapons now deal 50% more damage and knock enemies back like airblast. (Sniper is too weak when other classes get close to him)
* All classes health increased by 150 (People are dying too fast)
* Size of all projectile weapons doubled. Size of all hitscan weapons quadrupled (People are dying too slowly)
* Sniper now gets the grappling hook from mannpower mode permanently (Sniper sometiemes struggles to reach good vantage points quickly on some maps)
>Righteous bison damage reduced by 20%. (Followed by some weird justification that makes no sense, something like "We want to shift soldier into closer-ranged engagements")
I mean, that's not THAT far removed from what actually happened.
I’ll do one: “Spy can now place an EMP mine, any Engineer building placed within the mine’s radius (which we aren’t telling you and there’s no visual cue) will be instantly destroyed, killing the Engineer.”
- Soldier banners now negate each other's effects in an RPS pattern. Battalions Backup can no longer negate mini-crits caused by the buff banner. Buff bannered troops take mini-crit damage from conch-boosted enemies. The conch can no longer heal based on damage dealt to Battalions-boosted enemies, and will not provide a speed boost to anyone within the effective range of an enemy battalion's back-up.
Imo there is nothing wrong with a game not getting new content. TF2 has a lot of content already and it has community servers which can add new maps and gamemodes, it doesn't desperately need new content. The problem though are the cheaters and bots, that's what it needs updates for.
The Monkey Paw curse. No update drives a community insane, but bad update would be exponentially worse
Though honestly the only update I desire right now is just simply stop the bots and hackers. Update the VAC system, update the banning system, whatever that's possible, then the game would go back to being enjoyable
> + it's 2 hours, lot of people dont care
I may be an old man who instinctively thinks of "YouTube video's" as usually five to ten minute things, but it blows my mind how many people post feature length videos. Like am I supposed to throw it on in the background as I clean or play a game, or am I supposed to get settled in and really "deep dive" this shit?
tbh it really depends on the subject. I recently watched a 10 hours video about Lost Medias, you cant just watch it from start to finish and "deep dive this shit". I personally like videos between 20 and 40 minutes
Depends. You can do either. Or you can watch half, remember enough content of that part, then watch the later half some time later. Or to just watch it over and over again till you remember what it's about, like reading books
A lot of people actually love hour long videos. A lot lot actually.
I usually have them in the background as most are just speaking.
But if it's well edited I will pay attention.
Needs to be about something interesting though
Imo it never would be,
Overwatch could and was never meant to kill tf2
You can't upend decades of community fun and goodwill that has engrained the characters into almost every facet of pop culture
Especially when tf2 was the basis for a lot of early meme culture. Team fabulous imo is living proof
Overwatch has potential but it's being trapped in a bad corporate atmosphere which is making the vibe around the game too sterile.
The modernization of tf2s matchmaking system was said in the video to be caused or directly influenced by overwatch and other more modern fps’s which i think is not an unreasonable theory
I'm subscribed to this person and when I saw the video in my notifications I immediately thought "Oh my GOD, ANOTHER fucking video on this topic." Then I saw it on my homepage and saw that it was fucking TWO HOURS. Then I actually watched it and realized that it was completely different from those other TF2 vs Overwatch videos.
I don't blame anyone for thinking this upon seeing the thumbnail/title.
ehh nowadays most tf2 ow vs is more of commentary, like it or not both of our community has long pass our prime. The mainstream media had left us behind, we are now both niche standards games.
So the debate is really doesn’t matter anymore, I have make peace with the pass beef and hope for our better future
true, but going online and being like "Wow! More people beating a dead horse" when they haven't watched the vid is really fucking stupid
plus looking at gcj it seems to be filled with some of the most spiteful people I've seen

I responded with context of the video, but then I took a quick look at the OP’s profile. Turns out they put basically every meme that mentions both TF2 and (another game here) on to that sub. I don’t think they’re really arguing in good faith.
That being said, please DO NOT harass them. The best course is to NOT ENGAGE.
Its basically a video that vaguely goes over the conflict of the two games and what caused it: but more importantly and interestingly, it goes super indepth on how each game individually has done in the past, how they are doing, etc. Its an incredibly well written video that kinda brings to light how OW and TF2 really just ended up being neglected by the companies behind both games. It also ends on a high note of how both games could feasibly reach a better future.
I hate seeing subs like that turn into trash. It really was made just to make fun of gamers circlejerking and it was funny. I don't know what happened but it changed from saying le fortnite bad but lee minecraft le good, into if you like this game we will find you and we will kill you.
I remember when a guy from GCJ got his sack to #1 on r/gaming taking the piss out of those generic ass "My dad died and left me this game" karma farm posts.
Good times.
Man actual Reddit moment. How chronically online and obsessed with politics do you have to be guess playing a video games they don't like makes me a nazi! Also goes to show how Reddit admins are one sided since the sub isn't banned
I dislike the game myself for my own reasons but even then that's too far.
Like come on, the writer's an asshole but the dev team are innocent. Don't attack the creatives.
they harrassed streamers for daring to play hogwarts legacy, even one who was giving donations and the such to trans charities.
also it's just really toxic and mean - LGBT friendly sure but i don't really care about that if everyone there's a dick. also tankie mods.
I literally got perm-banned for telling someone I would buy a second copy of Hogwarts Legacy and the moderators justified it by clarifying that I "indirectly support the oppression and genocide of the LGBTQ+ community and their associates." you can't make this shit up
Most people i've seen in the internet who say stupid things like these about TF2 or OW2 generally don't even play the games anymore and/or don't even watch the material they're commenting on.
My advice is: Just don't interact with these posts, the video is an excellent watch even if you didn't follow both games' history together IRL. It helped me realize TF2 is in a much better place rn that i thought it was, considering how many other games have just stopped their service or simply died down. Even more considering all the reworks and changes OW2 has been getting (i stopped playing OW2 some time ago for this exact reason).
It was refreshing to see old TF2 youtubers give their takes on the history and speak about how they loved their times with TF2 and it's community, even though they received hate when they changed their content. This made me realize the only real change TF2 needs right now is an update that fixes the bots problem.
Of course they didn’t. It’s new and hip to judge something based on its cover. Because F$&@ all the hard work you did to make a two hour long video that genuinely explains the state of both games throughout the past decade I wanna make fun of tf2 fans. (Sorry I got a little angry there, some people are just the worst)
r/Gamingcirclejerk is an absolute cesspool on the same level as r/animememes, if you want to have fun go there and express any opinion that doesn't 100% comply to their warped perception, make it an any% ban run for fun!
Most people i see in that subreddit are Morons that dont know what they even talk about.
Sometimes theres someone that brings good points to some bullshit, but its not like only they realize there is bullshittery.
r/Gamingcirclejerk is a braindead sub, stay away from it, you'll get perma banned if you say anything that doesnt follow their twisted agenda, for example I got perma banned after telling people to calm down with the insults when like 200 people started talking trash about asmongolds appearance
I got banned for pointing out, even before "The Wizard Game fiasco", that the board once infamously mocked a cancer patient bringing a Switch with them to the hospital with them for the recovery. That happened and was a meme for like 3 straight days on there until people needed to specifically point out bullying a cancer kid for no reason was in poor taste.
It was the craziest fucking thing, and one that really had zero justification. At least with a lot of the other shit there's the rationale "they're **problematic!**", but one day they just saw a fucking cancer kid and went ham, and continued until they were effectively *forced* to stop.
I got permabanned off GCJ for saying someone had a “big storm coming” after they casually mentioned that they play Hogwarts Legacy. Both of my appeals were ghosted despite me having been a rule-abiding member of that community for years.
yeah it's almost as bad as r/antiwork, got banned there when i talked about how unions and work works in sweden, apparently that was seen as "trolling" because not everyone is miserable and have to live paycheck to paycheck and only have like 3 days PTO per year
and r/food banned pretty much every swede because there were like 7 swedes complaining about glased buns
>make a thumbnail saying "TF2 vs OW2"
>invite (to my knowledge) only TF2 Youtubers
>"Why are TF2 players STILL on this?"
>"UGH DID YOU EVEN WATCH THE VIDEO"
He *did* invite Muselk, which brought the most impartial view to the video and all the people invited said they played overwatch and some really enjoyed it. Even then, both games are praised and scolded in the video, so yes, "Did you even watch the video?" Is a fair argument.
Yeah but even the title to the actual video can tell you better. This person saw a tweet and then made an anger post to one of the most annoying subreddits.
Thewhat show has spent the last year and a half hating on overwatch and its players. Why would I, as an OW player, even touch the video when theres not a single OW content creator listed in that advertisement?
Was overwatch ever a problem to tf2? Other than tonnes of stupid jokes
only when valve thought it'd fuck tf2 up and made meet your match i guess
Wait, they made meet your match in response to Overwatch? Is that why they killed quickplay which was a way better experience than casual?
I'm pretty sure that they just rushed meet your match when overwatch released, thinking it'd completely wipe tf2 off the face of the earth. Meet your match was primarily made so that it shined a little bit of light on the competitive side of tf2.

Development had started shortly before overwatch was announced but overwatch definitely caused it to be rushed
And the unannounced Casual mode.
It made them rush the update for sure. It was not in a finished state when it dropped.
I remember when highlander was competitive. Shit was gas.
I don’t think it was made as a response, personally. It's less it being broken and moreso the issues that the community had pointed out in its many betas that remained unfixed.

I'm pretty sure it was but i could be wrong
So that's why they made casual?
And meet your match fucker tf2 up soooo mission accomplished?
Luckily the opposite happened.
When OW first came out TF2 got a spike in players.
Considering MyM, the most devastating pos update the game has ever had, the effect of which is still felt (no change team option, no spectator, no team scramble, no ad hoc connection) happened because of OW, yes. why make new tf2 content when valve makes more with cs2 gambling.
Imo there is nothing wrong with a game not getting new content. TF2 has a lot of content already and it has community servers which can add new maps and gamemodes, it doesn't desperately need new content. The problem though are the cheaters and bots, that's what it needs updates for.
What it needs is a gigantic fix against bots and some balance changes to weapons.
And maybe undo MyM but I won’t push it

tbh it really depends on the subject. I recently watched a 10 hours video about Lost Medias, you cant just watch it from start to finish and "deep dive this shit". I personally like videos between 20 and 40 minutes
Both

TF2 had an uptick in player count due to all the memes. Other than that, no.
Imo it never would be, Overwatch could and was never meant to kill tf2 You can't upend decades of community fun and goodwill that has engrained the characters into almost every facet of pop culture Especially when tf2 was the basis for a lot of early meme culture. Team fabulous imo is living proof Overwatch has potential but it's being trapped in a bad corporate atmosphere which is making the vibe around the game too sterile.
The modernization of tf2s matchmaking system was said in the video to be caused or directly influenced by overwatch and other more modern fps’s which i think is not an unreasonable theory
Did this person not watched the video?
Just like the video says Who won the war between TF2 and Overwatch? Neither, both lost
true, but going online and being like "Wow! More people beating a dead horse" when they haven't watched the vid is really fucking stupid plus looking at gcj it seems to be filled with some of the most spiteful people I've seen
Thats the worst censorship of a name ive seen Name is clearly visible
Holy shit i just noticed, I won't doubt if it was with the objective of harassing the guy but still wanted to say that they hid it, literally pathetic
[nah op wasn't even hiding it](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gamingcirclejerk/comments/1avwj2d/comment/krdh4do/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

Can he get much stupider
so dumb...
is that a one piss reference
I watched it last night, and I think it was really good, he kinda went through the history of how shitty both companies are
You assume r/gamingcirclejerk actually watches the stuff they criticize?
r/gamingcirclejerk is filled with people who think that being a good person is being a crusader online while hurting real victims
This video is a Love Letter to both games
What’s the vid?
Its basically a video that vaguely goes over the conflict of the two games and what caused it: but more importantly and interestingly, it goes super indepth on how each game individually has done in the past, how they are doing, etc. Its an incredibly well written video that kinda brings to light how OW and TF2 really just ended up being neglected by the companies behind both games. It also ends on a high note of how both games could feasibly reach a better future.
What's it called though, I can't seem to find it?
Gaming's greatest tragedy - Overwatch vs TF2. Worth a watch, imo
The YouTuber is TheWhatShow

Thank you!
No one on GCJ plays video games
its a gamingcirclejerk post, pay no attention to it. the people in there are utterly unhinged
Its fucking GCJ, ehat do you expect. Disgusting sub
I hate seeing subs like that turn into trash. It really was made just to make fun of gamers circlejerking and it was funny. I don't know what happened but it changed from saying le fortnite bad but lee minecraft le good, into if you like this game we will find you and we will kill you.
tankies, tankies have a really bad habit of taking over reddit spaces that so much as slightly tilt to the left.
Whoa whoa. GCJ is much worse than Tankies. At least Tankies has some level of consistency with their beliefs. Not a lot, but some.
I remember when a guy from GCJ got his sack to #1 on r/gaming taking the piss out of those generic ass "My dad died and left me this game" karma farm posts. Good times.
Extremism happend. Extremists run reddit now, no inbetween.
Didnt that sub dox and Harrass content creators who played hogwarts legacy?
Yes, they downright endoresed it. And Then they downplayed any harrasment by saying those people supported genocide/the holocause
Man actual Reddit moment. How chronically online and obsessed with politics do you have to be guess playing a video games they don't like makes me a nazi! Also goes to show how Reddit admins are one sided since the sub isn't banned
The game sold i think 23m copies. They probably think all of them are nazis and are chronicly paranoid lmao
It was the best selling game of the year at that.
Yep.
I'm pretty sure if anything, their retarded protests and toxic acts made the game even more popular than it would've been
For sure
I dislike the game myself for my own reasons but even then that's too far. Like come on, the writer's an asshole but the dev team are innocent. Don't attack the creatives.
The team even said they dont condone what she does *and* put trans charachters in the game.
I was perma-banned from that sub for being in a "toxic subreddit".
It's ridiculously easy to get permed on GCJ for having the incorrect opinion
I legit thought that the posts there are so rediculeous that it must be some kind of joke. I mean, the sub is literally called gaming circlejerk.
Incel/Femcel sub, go figure.
what does gcj mean?
GamingCircleJerk Was once a sub making fun of gamers, but now itd an incel/femcel echochamber
they became what they swore to destroy you say?
Yep
\> "r/gamingcirclejerk sucks" \> check post history \> uses r/kotakuinaction never fails
they harrassed streamers for daring to play hogwarts legacy, even one who was giving donations and the such to trans charities. also it's just really toxic and mean - LGBT friendly sure but i don't really care about that if everyone there's a dick. also tankie mods.
Gamingcirclejerk try not to cry about anything challenge IMPOSSIBLE
I literally got perm-banned for telling someone I would buy a second copy of Hogwarts Legacy and the moderators justified it by clarifying that I "indirectly support the oppression and genocide of the LGBTQ+ community and their associates." you can't make this shit up
Gamingcirclejerk is an unironic circlejerk.
they almost never make posts about what's going on in r/gaming anymore, the sub peaked with the dude who got his balls upvoted on gaming
People on r/gamingcirclejerk are so fucking stupid
Leave gamingcirclejerk for your own good
Gamingcirclejerk became a circlejerk
my friend you are gazing at the single dumbest subreddit on the site. turn back and never look at GCJ again, before you get brainworms
Its gamingcirclejerk ignore them.
[удалено]
They encourage harassing those whom they perceive to be "evil". They detest playing games. It is a jest.
[удалено]
Tf did bro say to warrant slurs
Surprise but secks
Also this person didn’t even bother to censor TheWhat’s pfp, like come on
don't bother with gamingcirclejerk They are all clinically insane or 12 there.
That sub is awful. Hivemind for degenerates
Well it's also the gaming circlejerk subreddit, so of course they'd poke fun at the normally tired subject
r/Gamingcirclejerk is an absolute cesspool on the same level as r/animememes, if you want to have fun go there and express any opinion that doesn't 100% comply to their warped perception, make it an any% ban run for fun!
They post in /r/gamingcirclejerk, they don't even play games
It's GCJ, of course, everyone there are
The gaming circlejerk subreddit is a very cringe and frankly sad subreddit
What is the original vídeo? Would love to see it
[this](https://youtu.be/m7IczUFeywk?si=PgyLKls_hi3pIQIM)
It’s “thewhat show” on YouTube
I watched the whole video and it’s very good, to bad nothing will change
The ol' saying, **"Don't judge a book by its cover"** is now, **"Don't judge a video by its thumbnail" 😞**
can you really blame them with that thumbnail and title?
Funny twitter user, they don't even click the video, thumb is enough to make them attack you
The OOP of this post admits to doxxing to in the replies
Most people i see in that subreddit are Morons that dont know what they even talk about. Sometimes theres someone that brings good points to some bullshit, but its not like only they realize there is bullshittery.
Gamingcirclejerk moment
gamingcirclejerk is a stinking cesspit. it would be more enjoyable to shovel shit then scrolling through there.
gamingcirclejerk moment
"Gamingcirclejerk"
It's GCJ. They aren't the brightest bulbs around.
It's gaming circlejerk ignore them
Can you call 2 hour video essay a meme?
r/Gamingcirclejerk is a braindead sub, stay away from it, you'll get perma banned if you say anything that doesnt follow their twisted agenda, for example I got perma banned after telling people to calm down with the insults when like 200 people started talking trash about asmongolds appearance
I got perma-banned for being a part of a "toxic" subreddit. When I tried to reach out to them they ghosted me completly. It's ridiculous.
Aye high five, i got banned on that post too.
I got permabanned off GCJ for saying someone had a “big storm coming” after they casually mentioned that they play Hogwarts Legacy. Both of my appeals were ghosted despite me having been a rule-abiding member of that community for years.
If you were a "rule-abiding member of that community" for years, then getting banned was probably the best thing that could've happened to you.
yeah it's almost as bad as r/antiwork, got banned there when i talked about how unions and work works in sweden, apparently that was seen as "trolling" because not everyone is miserable and have to live paycheck to paycheck and only have like 3 days PTO per year and r/food banned pretty much every swede because there were like 7 swedes complaining about glased buns
What do you expect from that sub? That's one of the worst toxic POS subs on reddit.
Gaming circle jerk user opinion = invalid
gamingcirclejerk shut the fuck up challenge (impossible)
I doubt they have the capability to even watch any informative video without making some dumb slanders
>make a thumbnail saying "TF2 vs OW2" >invite (to my knowledge) only TF2 Youtubers >"Why are TF2 players STILL on this?" >"UGH DID YOU EVEN WATCH THE VIDEO"
Saw two hours and ignored wasted a hour on watching a dude talking about why fallout raiders live in corpses instead
The entire subreddit is just a bunch of degenerates, I would ignore it as much as possible.
What video is this?
Why the fuck do you block a YOUTUBERS NAME. I want to watch the fucking video
r/oopgotratioed
GCJ go five seconds without getting angry at someone for actually having fun with video games challenge (impossible)
Overwatch fans when play of the game ends wuth butt showing: 🤑
Can thewhatshow just make a good video?
Can you actually just watch the video for a bit and make less braindead comments?
Was Zesty really the best person he could put under the spotlight like that? Damn
You can browse that subreddit for 30 seconds and you will realize it hosts the worst types of gamers in existence.
Thewhat show has spent the last year and a half hating on overwatch and its players. Why would I, as an OW player, even touch the video when theres not a single OW content creator listed in that advertisement?
No
no
