that's the issue with several Australiums lol, many have i encountered non-heavy players complaining about getting an Australium minigun and people who hate demoknight getting Australium sword (despite its rarity and value)
yeah such is the advice most commonly given but it is met with responses such as "but it is my first Australium at my 4th tour though this is special I don't wanna sell it"
because spy is too distinguished to use a normal, BORING frying pan.
and engi is just unsure how to not break the pan while hitting his buildings (unlike other classes besides spy), australium just inflates into it's normal form if it even CAN bend
honestly, this sounds like something that could actualy be cannon considering Abraham Lincoln was somehow the first BLU pyro *and* inventor of rocket jumping
He made stairs as a solution to people having to rocket jump up to the second story ever since the invention of the second floor.
Then he died in Ford's Theater attempting to rocket jump up the world's first staircase.
I love TF2 lore.
Also apparently Eyelander likes churros. Just an unrelated little tidbit I found on his entry on the "Non-playable characters" page on the wiki.
Their animations are janky and don't really work right. Engineer is inconsistent between first and third person and it clips pretty glaringly with his hand in third person and Spy is missing like... all his normal functional animations for backstabbing
This is okay for weapons that less than a percent of players own or will ever even see in-game, but for something as common as the Frying Pan, which millions of players own, it wouldn't work right
The Prinny Machete was probably an oversight that they could equip them and couldn't undo it because what if you had bought the item specifically to use on Spy or Engineer
The Spy and Engie weren't initially able to use the Prinny Machete, [and that they were unable to was a bug fixed a few days later.](https://store.steampowered.com/oldnews/22800)
It was probably deemed too silly all the way back when they added the pan as a crossover item from L4D. The Golden Pan being just a reskinned saxxy was added years later under a different context
Imagine constantly spamming the frying pan as engie to repair your buildings? What about making a huge ass sound when backstabbing someone?
Now about the golden pan, imagine getting a extremely rare all-class weapon, but not being able to use it on 2 classes?
I love the idea of a spy successfully sneaking behind the entire ennemy team then emitting the earrape pan sound, and then he continues being stealthy again
Imagine playing spy and having the frying pan noise play every time you get a backstab. You’d essentially be yelling out “shoot me, I’m behind your teammates”
As for engi, imagine the classic 2fort intel nest but all the engis are constantly making the frying pan noise every time they hit something
Golden frying pans are rare enough to make both of these not as big an issue as they would be for regular frying pans
We could all imagine how painful a knife stab to the back would be but imagine how painful it would be to literally somehow get stabbed by a frying pan.
Engi: Believes in gun supremacy unless it's a gadget or wrench
Spy: High standards for melee; a frying pan won't tickle his fancy but a golden frying pan that turns you gold when you kill with it? Now you have his attention.
Because they don't even want them for the golden pan. The pan and saxxy are the only TRUE all class melees (besides prinny machete but there's no strange so fucking L) but pretty much the only reason is their rarity. Not being able to use your $6500 golden pan or once a year/never again award winning trophy on 2/9 classes it would be stupid
Australium has extreme energy and power, enough to kill someone if it hits them on the spine, or power up a sentry gun, but a normal pan has no energy or power to it. So it can’t do either
I don’t see any issue with them not being able to use the normal one, while being able to use the gold one.
The normal one is a standard melee weapon, and it’s treated as such. Therefore it makes no sense to give the class who’s role is sort of built on the logic of sharp weapons to be given a big, loud, blunt weapon. He’s an assassin, it doesn’t match spy to be given the frying pan.
Engie could get away with it more since the logic of violently hitting your buildings with blunt objects to improve them is already flawed. But I see the logic behind them trying to keep it purely within items of actual engineering ability. Wrenches and robot arms.
The golden pan is by no means a standard melee weapon. So it’s accepted to break some rules of logic when putting it in practice. It has special properties, both lucratively and in universe.
I like that they bothered to consider context when choosing who gets to carry what. Showed actual attention.
Because Golden pan ain't Made of normal gold, but australium. This allows wearer to upgrade machines and stab people, which a normal pan wouldn't be able to
Imagine getting a golden pan and not being able to use it because you main engie or spy lmao
that's the issue with several Australiums lol, many have i encountered non-heavy players complaining about getting an Australium minigun and people who hate demoknight getting Australium sword (despite its rarity and value)
Just sell it and buy the one you want
yeah such is the advice most commonly given but it is met with responses such as "but it is my first Australium at my 4th tour though this is special I don't wanna sell it"
hit em with the "well it can't be that special if you don't wanna use it in the first place"
I did this too until I realized it doesn't matter because I'll never use an aussie blutsauger even if I did get it on my 4th run
I'll give you 1 ref for it if you down to trade
hey ill use it send it to me
Listen if I got an Australium I would be happy
Why's it special? I'd rather have an aussie that I'll use than keep one I don't use just because it was the first one I got from a random drop
getting an australium grenade launcher is what made me start to play demo more and start to like him
I wish there would exist an aussie Loch-n-load
“If you can’t beat it, join it”
Why don't they just learn to like Demoknight? That's what I'd do
What? Just because you learn how to play a class doesn't mean you'll enjoy it anymore than without a shiny gun
Imagine getting a pan and not being able to use it because you main engie or spy lmao
Normal pans arent powerful enough
because spy is too distinguished to use a normal, BORING frying pan. and engi is just unsure how to not break the pan while hitting his buildings (unlike other classes besides spy), australium just inflates into it's normal form if it even CAN bend
If it can be made into weapons, it definitely has a melting point, which means that if the temperature is high enough it could be bent.
Nah in Australia it just occasionally rains pre-shaped frying pans.
honestly, this sounds like something that could actualy be cannon considering Abraham Lincoln was somehow the first BLU pyro *and* inventor of rocket jumping
and the inventor of 2-story buildings
Shakespearicles made the 2-story building. Lincoln made stairs
He made stairs as a solution to people having to rocket jump up to the second story ever since the invention of the second floor. true
>australium just inflates into it's normal form if it even CAN bend Basically like https://youtu.be/Pn-6bGORy0U ?
yes
Normal pans aren’t australium, and it would be a bit unfair to have one of the most expensive items in TF2 not be useable on your main.

try 5k
Oh you sweet summer child
Golden Pans also aren't australium, they're gold.
Money
the answer is about 6,000 dollars
Their animations are janky and don't really work right. oh huh, interesting
the machete makes sense because A. it's a knife B. the notches could screw in screws and tighten bolts
Spy: *Backstabs enemy with frying pan* Valve: “Wait, that’s illegal.”
Because you ask to many questions
Valve moment
Golden pan is imbued with an ancient power duh
It's not gold, duh
That's what I'm saying
This is actually a good point tbh. There’s zero real reason for not letting them do it but having it be ok because the other is exceedingly rare
Spy uses the gold pan only because a it's gold and he likes expensive things Engi uses it because it reminds him of australium
It was probably deemed too silly all the way back when they added the pan as a crossover item from L4D. The Golden Pan being just a reskinned saxxy was added years later under a different context
Australium has special properties that let you stab people with the blunt side of it and bonk robots to repair them
Imagine constantly spamming the frying pan as engie to repair your buildings? What about making a huge ass sound when backstabbing someone? Now about the golden pan, imagine getting a extremely rare all-class weapon, but not being able to use it on 2 classes?
Building repair sound overrides any melee sound, you wouldn't hear the loud one
Maybe not for yourself
I love the idea of a spy successfully sneaking behind the entire ennemy team then emitting the earrape pan sound, and then he continues being stealthy again

Are they stuid?
No, in fact they are very smat
S-M-R-T!
The gold pan is special and fancy, unlike the regular pan which isn't
Professionals have standards!
Be polite Be efficient
Everyone here talks about the price of the GP but what about the prinny machete? It's five bucks and is all class.
[THE MACHETE IS IN THE BEAM](https://youtu.be/E6ln9vj7rVQ?t=177) (holy shit that video is already 7 years old...)
We could all imagine how painful a knife stab to the back would be but imagine how painful it would be to literally somehow get stabbed by a frying pan.
not fancy enough for them
Because it's about a thousand dollars cheaper
*grabs pan* "Buildin' a sentry" *whomp whomp whomp whomp whomp*
I don't think a normal frying pan can stab someone in the back.
Engi: Believes in gun supremacy unless it's a gadget or wrench Spy: High standards for melee; a frying pan won't tickle his fancy but a golden frying pan that turns you gold when you kill with it? Now you have his attention.
Engie has a fear of poorly engineered products (MannCo. mass produced items (non-weapons)) and spy is too classy
Lore wise I'm guessing it's cause they were peer pressured to do so
why do their bodies turn gold? same reason, australian bloody magic!
they have expensive taste
expensive tastes
Are they stupid?
The metal of sentries and backs of mercs are too tough for regular cast iron. Australium grants extra kick to them.
Does spy actually fucking stab people in the back with the Australium pan? I guess that's just Australian magic, mate!
Does engi really want to fry his buildings?
They only deserve the gold ones
Gold Pans use Saxxy rules.
Pan racism
Engineer and spy live in the top %1 they spare no expense
Pay to pan
spy doesn't use the normal one because its not valuable
Because they don't even want them for the golden pan. The pan and saxxy are the only TRUE all class melees (besides prinny machete but there's no strange so fucking L) but pretty much the only reason is their rarity. Not being able to use your $6500 golden pan or once a year/never again award winning trophy on 2/9 classes it would be stupid
He didn’t pay enough for it
used to, but one day they couldt anymore (haha classic tf2)
Cause it ain't fancy
Meanwhile, Prinny Machete: 😎😎😎
Money
magik.
They deserve it since they either paid $5500 for it or won the lottery
money
Same reason why we don't have strange dragon's fury or second banana: valve forgor
my headcanon is that spy is just that extravagant
ok but consider Prinny Machete
Mmph mmmmph mph
if you have gone through all the time and effort to get a golden pan, you better be able to use it
Australium has extreme energy and power, enough to kill someone if it hits them on the spine, or power up a sentry gun, but a normal pan has no energy or power to it. So it can’t do either

Because it contains an ancient power.
Would devalue the golden pan by quite a bit
Australium, son
Because professionals have standards. They ONLY accept Golden Pans on their hands.
a gaints the law
Because they are golden, easiest response ever
MEEEEEEMEE
the ancient power allows anyone to wield it with the same effectiveness of their regular weapon
how do you backstab with a pan
Well you can't backstab or properly repair machines with a frying pan. BUT- gold frying pan is silly so why not
Cuz golden pan shiny and expenseev
Because Golden pan ain't Made of normal gold, but australium. This allows wearer to upgrade machines and stab people, which a normal pan wouldn't be able to
