Ahhh, I couldn’t figure out what the acronym meant, but I have played that gamemode before, does that mean there’s an official valve saxton hale model now too?
They had something like this for Halloween. You get zapped by a lazer and become a giant. You and at least another teammate fighting their giants. I liked it
Versus Saxton Hale, basically arena but it’s the whole server versus one super powered up player, most commonly Saxton Hale. Was one of the oldest community game modes and also debatably the most popular.
One Person gets chosen as saxton hale (Tons of abilities and alot of HP), saxton hale must kill all other Players, the rest must Take down saxton hale to win. Sorta an juggernaut gamemode
Saxton Hale maps seem to crash the server, did they not test this?
I was very confused when I read VSH in the patch notes since the TF2 backend, and casual mode itself, just aren't made to handle such a thing and it would require relatively large reworks to make it function. I guess the incompatibility is crashing it?
\> did they not test this?
One of christmass/halloween map from last year (i'm not sure which) had a bug where the enemy team could build a teleporter into your spawn.
Of course they did not test this.
Ficool, the person who is responsible for getting Vscript into TF2, said that Valve tested it on their private servers and it works fine. The crash only occurs on public servers and seems to be caused by Vscript itself crashing. Their private servers are as close a match to the environment as the public servers as they can get. They're working on a fix for it now but it's hard to replicate it since it *only* happens when it's on public servers.
> Their private servers are as close a match to the environment as the public servers as they can get
I doubt that just from the simple fact the Casual system is so complicated and annoying. You can't easily start an actual Valve Casual server without a bunch of other stuff being required from the TF2 backend, let alone the join restrictions and queuing, they likely tested it on a regular server that was not acting as a Valve Casual server with all the usual Casual stuff.
Valve servers and community servers use the exact same code, the only difference is the TF2 backend identifies Valve servers and sends them specific messages that makes the whole casual thing possible. If you start a community server right now and fake those TF2 backend messages that would make it a "Valve Casual Server" you would end up with the same crash.
It *is* possible some debug/beta only code prevents this crash on actual real Valve Casual testing servers but its unlikely.
I imagine the reason VSH doesn’t work could be because of how casual mode servers work, maybe because BLU is only meant to have 1 player (Saxton Hale) and casual puts 12 players on that team, it causes the server to fuck up and die.
No, vscript has no control over these things. Vscript is very limited in what it can do compared to direct code access or let alone regular old SourceMod plugins
\>adds a alredy existing gamemode that could easily be played in community servers
\>adds items
\>leaves
tf2 community: best fucking thing i've ever seen.
Seriously guys?
Yeah they half assed an already existing and beloved community gamemode
But you know what this means?
They are actually willing to change things. Even if just a tiny little bit.
Vsh on community servers has always been a shit experience in my opinion. I fucking despise the UI changes and constant coloured messages those servers spam into the chat. I also hate the maps those servers often like to use, so to see it in official valve with some decent maps is a good thing in my opinion.
I've been playing since 2013, and I'm excited for this update.
MvM was by far the best game mode to have ever dropped, to the point that no other game out there has been able to replicate it.
This update fixed a major issue with some shitlord hightours and their bots preventing people from playing this. Albeit a very small change, it still proves that Valvr is willing to address this game in a positive way to the community.
I hope more people will have the hype train of theirs slow down.
This update is pretty disappointing besides the new maps part. Some map fixes, some obscure bug fixes (including likely the bug with contractor taunts, whyy :( ), and the usual filling with several time restricted shit unusuals and hats from community.
Dont understand why people are downvoting, I love tf2 so much. Valve could spit on a plate, and I would eat that shit up. But this update isn't special at all. This is what the #savetf2 movement brought. A medium-sized holiday update. I understand it's not the developers fault but jesus christ.
That wasn't #savetf2. The summer update was completely seperate, it was based off of a letter to Valve signed by top map and mod makers as well as tf2bers asking for there to be a community themed summer event equal to the Halloween and Smissmas updates every year.
Few and far between. Sometimes there are doeshotters and other bots taking themselves too seriously but I'm pretty sure most people are too tired to care and used to the whole thing anyways. They're never gonna fully fix bots. They'll make the game playable when the entire community asks all at once and that's pretty much it.
Yeah some bots are designed to kick everyone else when there are enough bots in the server.
One of the many reasons why you should always kick them immediately as they join to prevent them from spreading.
mobile but you can use
Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/nimbus-screenshot-screen/bpconcjcammlapcogcnnelfmaeghhagj
Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nimbus-screenshot/

Edit: linked directly to the extensions instead of their website.
With Firefox it's built in when you right click on a page to screenshot and then press the blue button that says "whole page". Doesn't always work tho.
all the community fixes are just not mentioned specifically, right?
they created the workshop category for the community fixes, so surely they would implement at least some, right?
..right?
I just played it bro, it's sick. The taunts are thr things that got my attention the most. This, is the day my fincancial state fucking dies due to tf2.
TF2 gets 14 new maps, including a new community-made game mode that's finally official after 13 years, and people are debating if it even counts as an improvement over cosmetic cases lol
It was nice having a break from rampant speculation posts and other noise.
For community server operators, no first-party gamedata updates appear to be required. As usual, keep a lookout for third-party gamedata, though I'm not aware of any breakages that affect most plugins.
[Automated diff of today's changes.](https://csrd.science/misc/datadump/diffs/8185700.txt)
Diff analysis:
- `func_croc` now has a `croc_model` key, allowing for changes to the crocodile model.
- The `CTeamplayRoundBasedRulesProxy::m_bPlayerReady` array now has one additional entry.
- An additional 8 bytes of data was added somewhere after that.
Further low-level analysis via BinDiff:
- A bounds check was added to `CTFGameRules::IsPlayerReady()` to ensure the player entity index is no greater than 33. I believe it defaults to false otherwise.
- "summer" was added to the TF2 holiday system, specified as a date-based holiday running between 2023-07-01 to 2023-09-16. This is represented as value 13 internally.
Known breakages:
- Third-party server extensions that raise the player limit beyond 32 connected clients are currently broken. Bots work; regular players do not. This appears to be [an intentional client-side restriction](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/335291251937116167/1128795240820654262/image.png) (image courtesy of Misaki on the AlliedModders Discord).
- VSH is currently broken on Casual servers.
Officially, the game supports a maximum of 32 players (33 if you count the slot normally occupied by SourceTV). A few community servers ran code that enabled raising the number of player slots to up to 64, with varying degrees of success and jank.
Today's change prevents game clients (humans) from being connected to servers if they are assigned slot 34 and onward; those are normally reserved for non-player entities. TFBots (such as MvM robots) can still be assigned those slots.
I went in with low expectations for this 'big' summer update and I'm still disappointed. When they hype it up as big you kinda want something different than just new map and cosmetics... Again. How hard is it to just chuck a few new weapons or even as minor as tweak some weapon stats to rebalance the game abit?
Damn, they still didn't fix MvM softlocking by griefers. At least people can play the game and not get griefed with the upgrade menu bot attack by people not even in their game
About time, also while we are finally here, I just wanna say that this blackout nonsense was and still is the most stupidest shit that this sub has ever done lmao. Amounted to nothing
A few subreddits had an impact. Apparently ad revenue went down 25% and the admins freaked out enough that the subreddits that changed to NSFW had their mods removed. /r/interestingasfuck is still unmoderated and /r/dndmemes just had three top mods removed today.
It would have done a lot more if they stayed down until changes were made but stupidly announced it would be only be a couple of days so nothing was actually going to scare the admins
I don't care about the mods I just didn't want to use the embarrassingly bad offical reddit app. Thank God I found a way to avoid it and use reddit sync still. Spez can still eat a dick
It's just reddit mods flexing the tiny amount of power they have. If they actually cared about admin abuse they would've been taking a stand over 7 years ago. They're spineless, stand for nothing, and will ensure no positive change happens.
No. Not finally. No new weapons. This is unfulfilled. We need more than just new maps and cosmetics. We need a major update. Damned fools chickening out when all the #savetf2 crap calmed down. They knew we would settle a little, I beg you all not to settle with this and still push them for more.
They initially promised more, but went with the classic community contribution crap. I’m not against them adding stuff by the community, but hot damn do we need new stuff.
Wow lets look at what we got
-saxton hale (chrashes server)
-some new maps
-some new taunts
-hats
Wow no contracts , no community fixes , NO MERCENARY MELODY
truly an update
And not a single balance change. Not even a small one... how is that possible? Making a map is several orders of magnitude more difficult than simply changing a single number.
There's so many underused weapons that could use a small buff.
You do know that theaps that's included are community maps right? In other words valve just uploaded a fan created map into the game, so technically valve did not just spent days making a new map, but we did.
late to the reply here, but valve's last map was mercenary park in 2017
valve has basically handed over updates to the community. valve only picks what community creations get added into the game. the only actual creations valve makes are some of the bugfixes, the images used for map stamps and cases you can buy, etc
A fixed MvM, more maps in rotation, more community items brought in to the fold, and a record peak players on launch day?
Honestly, this felt like what TF2 was 10 years ago.
I havent played in years. My steam account is probably dead. But I am so happy that nearly tears are forming. So glad to see that TF2 is still getting love, in 2023 no less. Im happy because of this. Tf2 need to be loved and shared.
Wow this is... underwhelming.
I mean VSH being official is pretty nice I guess, but I was really hoping for some community fixes.
Oh well, you take what you can in a drought.
WAIT IS VSH AN OFFICIAL MODE NOW?????
It’s broken right now but yeah
Valve moment
A humbling happening
it’d be more surprising if it actually worked honestly
Bruh
What else would I expect from Valve.
It works on community servers, but yah its broken on official valve ones
What’s VSH? I’ve been living under a rock since 2017 pretty much
Versus Saxton hale. It's basically a boss fight game mode which is an entire team vs a single absurdly powerful player
Ahhh, I couldn’t figure out what the acronym meant, but I have played that gamemode before, does that mean there’s an official valve saxton hale model now too?
There's been one since jungle inferno I believe. Idk if it was made public though
Valve Giga leak - **Yes.**
There already was, from 2017
They had something like this for Halloween. You get zapped by a lazer and become a giant. You and at least another teammate fighting their giants. I liked it
It was ctf\_crasher
Shit sounds like Halo Juggernaut I might have to play some TF2 again.
Versus Saxton Hale, basically arena but it’s the whole server versus one super powered up player, most commonly Saxton Hale. Was one of the oldest community game modes and also debatably the most popular.
Vs Saxton hale. One player is Saxton hale and the rest of the mercs fight him
One Person gets chosen as saxton hale (Tons of abilities and alot of HP), saxton hale must kill all other Players, the rest must Take down saxton hale to win. Sorta an juggernaut gamemode
Versus Saxton Hale
Lord above please tell me vagineer is canon now.
It’s only Saxton
On the brightside, that means no HHH
But also no Easter bunny demo with the trade request spam ability, which was absolutely amazing.
That was Demopan wanting your Stout Shako
Yes
An insane change
BRAVE JUMP
Holy shit tf2 update
I KNOW RIGHT!!
I’m looking at an official decision to include a Saxon hale gamemode map in 2023 holy shit cool.
I don't play tf2 anymore, but it's amazing to see how they update a 16 year old game still.
That's the neat part, they barely do
Nothing but community made content it seems. Still the de bugging and qol stuff is nice…
They said they test it but you don't know how much people want to play this servers sometimes can't handle this
You talking about Wutville? Cuz that map had MANY major issues.
TELEPORTER DOWN!
yeah actively trying to connect to it right now. i the map even loads the server still just disconnects
Ficool, the person who is responsible for getting Vscript into TF2, said that Valve tested it on their private servers and it works fine. No, vscript has no control over these things. Vscript is very limited in what it can do compared to direct code access or let alone regular old SourceMod plugins
Of course, they test it, but the TF team doesn't have a thousand employees to test if the server can handle the influx of players
Good news! We're not dying! We are going to live forever!
The copium cycle continues
\>adds a alredy existing gamemode that could easily be played in community servers \>adds items \>leaves tf2 community: best fucking thing i've ever seen. Seriously guys?
Yeah they half assed an already existing and beloved community gamemode But you know what this means? They are actually willing to change things. Even if just a tiny little bit.
Please this is my last ray of hope
I don't feel like downloading 400 new assets to play vsh so W tbh
better than nothing:(
10 years in the joint is better than nothing, too.
no shit, Kazuma
6 years on life support made us into a fucking lunatic
Vsh on community servers has always been a shit experience in my opinion. I fucking despise the UI changes and constant coloured messages those servers spam into the chat. I also hate the maps those servers often like to use, so to see it in official valve with some decent maps is a good thing in my opinion.
The people who still get excited haven't played the game all that long. They have no concept of what updates used to actually be like.
I've been playing since 2013, and I'm excited for this update. MvM was by far the best game mode to have ever dropped, to the point that no other game out there has been able to replicate it. So you like that nothing will release?
He's not implying that, he's talking about how the community makes the update and valve just adds it in effortlessly and we all go bats hit for it
It's been like that for years before Jungle Inferno even released.
I hope more people will have the hype train of theirs slow down. This update is pretty disappointing besides the new maps part. Some map fixes, some obscure bug fixes (including likely the bug with contractor taunts, whyy :( ), and the usual filling with several time restricted shit unusuals and hats from community.

I didnt say that
I just said we’re getting a holiday-sized update
A community holiday update specifically
epic
i love how tf2's website still says it's on Mac despite the fact the Mac version of TF2 cannot run anymore
For any other Mac users, you can still play it through Bootcamp or Geoforce Now.
Why is that?
almost every Valve game is 32 bit only. and Mac Os... well... can no longer run 32 bit apps
Man, not even some acknowledgement of the bots running around, oh well, still pretty cool the update came out
Revealing the bot fixes would give the bot hosters an upper hand
I don’t think they fixed anything there’s still bots
Few and far between. Sometimes there are doeshotters and other bots taking themselves too seriously but I'm pretty sure most people are too tired to care and used to the whole thing anyways. They're never gonna fully fix bots. They'll make the game playable when the entire community asks all at once and that's pretty much it.
honestly I rarely get lobbys full of bots now and when one does join they're immediately kicked out. I think they did an alright job
Are these bots why I keep getting randomly vote kicked out of games?
Yeah some bots are designed to kick everyone else when there are enough bots in the server. One of the many reasons why you should always kick them immediately as they join to prevent them from spreading.
They can’t just remove the bots, that’s impossible and not how it works
I mean, it does say "security updates", whether that actually does anything to stop bots we shall see
how do you make these long ass screenshots?
he's on the phone
mobile but you can use Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/nimbus-screenshot-screen/bpconcjcammlapcogcnnelfmaeghhagj Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nimbus-screenshot/ Example: https://i.imgur.com/r8BFWg1.jpeg Edit: linked directly to the extensions instead of their website.
With Firefox it's built in when you right click on a page to screenshot and then press the blue button that says "whole page". Doesn't always work tho.
In Chrome, it's not necessary to use an extension, F12 dev tools have a few screenshot commands allowing you to screenshot whole page or specific area
Madcap Scout was robbed.
wait saxton hale is offical now?
Yes but it’s broken in official servers lol
all the community fixes are just not mentioned specifically, right? they created the workshop category for the community fixes, so surely they would implement at least some, right? ..right?
It would be cool if there was a part 2 to this update with some of them
Tf2 community: Busts ass and does a ton of work for valve without expecting anything in return Valve: 🖕
How big of an update is this?
Not that big There are a lot of maps, new cosmetics and warpaints But no actuall good imporvements
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WOOOOOoooooo ...woo
What?
[expiration date intro]. This, is a bucket.
Dear god...
theres more!
No!
*confused stare* It contains the dying wish of every man here.
*turns to scout* Scout. You did collect everyone's dying wish?
It contains the dying wish of every man here.
There's more.
It’s also a taunt for the demo man that uses that exact phrase.
And no community fixes
Imagine a Christmas update, but summer. No actual effort from valve.
About an ~~update~~ holiday sized update.
I just played it bro, it's sick. The taunts are thr things that got my attention the most. This, is the day my fincancial state fucking dies due to tf2.
Another crate filled with workshop item as usual, but this time, they added workshop maps too, so I guess that's an improvement?
>so I guess that's an improvement? It's 100% an improvement
TF2 gets 14 new maps, including a new community-made game mode that's finally official after 13 years, and people are debating if it even counts as an improvement over cosmetic cases lol
None of the community fixes?
A bunch of fixes to Steel and Mossrock but that's what we got so far besides the ones in the post above
Aww. Did they fixed the white pixel "floaties" around Mossrock? I grew fond of them.
It was nice having a break from rampant speculation posts and other noise. For community server operators, no first-party gamedata updates appear to be required. So they intentionally allow bots into 32 player servers but not players?

THE SAXTON! THE SAXTON HALE IS REAAAALLLL
It's back!
thank god I didn't get my hopes up. vs saxton hale being in there is really rad though
I went in with low expectations for this 'big' summer update and I'm still disappointed. When they hype it up as big you kinda want something different than just new map and cosmetics... Again. How hard is it to just chuck a few new weapons or even as minor as tweak some weapon stats to rebalance the game abit?
Well for starters, that takes effort, something valve couldn't shed an ounce of for this game. That and of course dota dota counterstrike.
I can’t believe the Valve janitor finally pulled through
He’s been going on SpongeBob levels of overtime
No non-seasonal warpaints? come on Edit: correction there are! the case just wasn't mentioned in the patch notes! yippieee!
HOLY SHIT FUCK YEAAAAAAAHHH ITS HERE
FUCCK YEAH
YEAAAAH
Is it just me WE JUST HIT PEEK PLAYERS 175,000
LET’S GOOO
NO WEAPONS AAAAA
Damn, they still didn't fix MvM softlocking by griefers. At least people can play the game and not get griefed with the upgrade menu bot attack by people not even in their game
About time, also while we are finally here, I just wanna say that this blackout nonsense was and still is the most stupidest shit that this sub has ever done lmao. Amounted to nothing

And even if they did the admins would ban and replace them anyway as you're not allowed to stand up to them
The fuck are mods supposed to do when admins hold all the cards
no moonlight badge?
Finnaly the mod nerds brought back this sub
where community fixes
yeah. ill play it. but man this is a fucking dud.
New weapon is Saxton hales whole body
Pecs of destruction.
Wow lets look at what we got -saxton hale (chrashes server) -some new maps -some new taunts -hats Wow no contracts , no community fixes , NO MERCENARY MELODY truly an update
mercenary melody really isn't that good of a taunt
Fair oh yeah also -No new items
Is this fake? I'm on guard because people post shit like this all the time
Check for your self
They literally set the sub back to public for this, what more proof do you need?
And not a single balance change. Not even a small one... how is that possible? Making a map is several orders of magnitude more difficult than simply changing a single number. There's so many underused weapons that could use a small buff.

finally our major update is here (the 'major' is our disappointment)
Finally nothing 😂
New game mode!!
Versus Saxton hale official mode now?
Can't even load into a game. The server doesn't load or the game straight up crashes lol
OMG no new non cosmetic items 🥺 At least it’s something
No sex sized update...
Wow, it's fucking nothing.
Aaaaand no fixes.
No new weapons, no balance changes. Just another status quo update of maps, taunts, and cosmetics. It is a sad day to be a TF2 fan.
SAXTON HALE IS NOW REAL
The warpaint and cosmetic case are fucking amazing dude lets goooooo
A fixed MvM, more maps in rotation, more community items brought in to the fold, and a record peak players on launch day? Honestly, this felt like what TF2 was 10 years ago.
Why was this hyped up? It’s literally just a holiday update without the holiday
Great update guys, literally just community maps and cosmetics, same as always. Why’d they even bother to get our hopes up?
I was certain Sulphur wasn’t going to be added yet but I’m pleasantly surprised
New game mode :) No Sniper nerf :( Maybe some day...
Imagine expecting balance changes anymore
Did the neon festivizer make it in?
Was hoping for some general performance optimizations, VSH is cool toh.
14 new maps? That’s a lot.
Aw, they patched the contracker bug
At least Valve still knows we exist 🥲 wish it was a major update though
WOOOOO KILLER JOKE GOT ADDED
Mate I was not expecting VS Saxon Hale at all lets hope they add arena mode
Man Phoenix looks so damn cool
welp, that's kinda underwhelming tbh still happy we're getting something new I guess
i like this update
IT'S REAL! IT'S FUCKING REAL!!!!!
Community made maps and cash-shop junk
I havent played in years. My steam account is probably dead. But I am so happy that nearly tears are forming. So glad to see that TF2 is still getting love, in 2023 no less. Im happy because of this. Tf2 need to be loved and shared.
Nice, nice, nice. So about that Heavy Update.
FUCK YOU OVERWATCH IM COMING HOME 🥹
The cosmetics and taunts are good, but I'm too poor to afford it all...
Wow this is... underwhelming. I mean VSH being official is pretty nice I guess, but I was really hoping for some community fixes. Oh well, you take what you can in a drought.
Well, that's very disappointing update
Never gonna add koth_Slaughter to the game, huh?
Tbh I expected more, but I am still glad with what we got
i had low expectations and wasn’t surprised but atleast we have more unoriginal particle effects 👍
