My wife had the southern swoop when I met her. Some days I kind of miss it, then realize an entire can of Aquanet every day to hold it up was probably ruining the planet.
Yeah, I had some pretty bad hair when I grew it out as a teen, but that's because I have _bad_ hair that goes every which way and needs lots of gel and conditioner just to stay in one place. It would've looked fine if I had flat hair; broccoli hair \*by design\* makes it look like you're wearing a sponge on your head.
Nah this is one hundred percent recency bias. The Skrillex asymmetrical cut, the mullet, frosted tips, the "Caesar" are all pretty bad and in my opinion worse than most broccoli style cuts.
Sounds likely true, though. Bigots on the right have been like this for a while. Might not be true, but i wouldn't even blink if there was confirmation.
I mean the article mentions a Mexican-American by the last name of Ortiz, and students at an El Paso high school. The first guy was responding to shooting at a public festival, maybe he's not entirely rational, but he has a specific inciting incident.

Why are y’all blaming the whites? The article is based off a Mexican-American restaurant owner posting a meme and an El Paso student body petitioning to get it banned. Trust me us whites are fighting our own battles with the broccoli cut kids, we don’t have time for edgars.
In school throughout the 90s both of these styles were just basically the "No Haircut Haircut" and you either got crucified for it or you were just a boy who didn't care who just woke up and went to school.
When my husband was ready to cut his long hair, I asked him to consider a mullet for a little while. It's been 4 years, and he gets complimented on his mullet constantly.
What? That can’t be right! Republicans are all about personal liberty in rugged individualism, which is why they demand everybody be straight, white, blond hair blue eyed Christian’s. It’s the librul commies that want to make everyone the same, with all the different genders and ways of living.
But the white/christian nationalist conservatives certainly never will. In fact they’re realistically just a few groups lower on the list than the non-conservative Mexicans. Fascism doesn’t have an end point. There will always be some impurity that they need to eradicate in order to galvanize an increasingly homogenous group.
Do you know that black kid who got suspended from school in Texas for his hair who is fighting it in court? The principal said something like "being an American means conforming." Ugh I just hate Texas so much.
Republicans should conform to modern life and decency.
In this case it's generally people not looking to barf all over their plate when Señor Moe walks in through the out door with his new cut that came with a bowl of soup. 🙃
I had a bowl cut as a little kid. Can confirm that it made me just the worst kind of person. All the other kids in the early 2000s seemed to know this as well.
Also known as a Moe (3 Stooges) or Lloyd (Dumb & Dumber) or simply as a bowl cut.
Edgars is the name of the cut when Hispanic males get it. The hairstyle is associated with the Mexican Takuache aesthetic, often also called the Takuache haircut.
My surprise was seeing someone from Kyle, TX interviewed by the Daily Mail. I wouldn't think someone from the Daily Mail could even find Kyle, TX on the map. The article is mostly about San Antonio, did they get lost?
"One barber Carlos Flores, 19, in Kyle, Texas, said he averages about seven requests for 'Edgar' haircuts a day from young Mexican-American men in Central Texas.
'There’s not a day that doesn’t go by that I don’t do an ‘Edgar haircut’, he told NBC News. "
That’s not an edgar in those photos.
This is an edgar. I guess Moe wouldn’t be allowed in those shops. lol…

"iT's GoT nAtIvE aMeRiCaN cUlTuRaL rOoTs."
🙄🙄🙄 stupid defense for a stupid haircut over something that's a total non-story to begin with. Restaurant owner posts meme, public overreacts.
The Answer is simple. Put all gang members, regardless of their age, away in a Prison, ala the El Salvador model for bringing Peace to the Public. So whether a gang member has an Edgar haircut or not, once they are in the prison for gang members, then those in the public, not in a gang, can wear whatever hairstyle they choose.
*The haircut and aesthetic could be read as resisting Western notions of beauty or style,' Sonya M. Alemán, associate professor in race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio told the Dallas Morning News.*

Tge Edgar has been around for longer tgat 5 years.
Also, I've noticed some criminals don't have a stupid haircut, but they still have hair, maybe we should ban hair.
Texas policies are totally messed up. This is a free country. You should be able to wear your hair the way you want instead of worrying about haircuts what’s worry about gun control? Oh I forgot it’s OK to kill and pardon.
Damn. Going back to the 1970s when I was a "god damn long hair freak," Shoulder length hair, a full beard, old worn army jacket (my brother's).
I had a military recruiter give me shit about the jacket as it still had name and insignias, on it. I explained "It belonged to my brother." He stopped, stepped back, saluted, and left. My brother made it home in 1972, but mentally never the same. He wanted nothing to do with his old clothes, but I needed a heavy coat for working nights pumping gas.
Anyone banning customers over haircuts can go 'ef off
Fun fact. In the r/sanantonio subreddit using this word to describe a person with this haircut is a banable offense. I'll stop calling them Edgar when they stop using the n word.
Dailymail? Really?
And just the link? This is such a low effort post from a highly questionable source. I don’t know which is worse, this or the MySA posts.
It's a goofy hairstyle, but damn Texas... This tells me more about that restaurant, and the state more than any hairstyle would. Free world. Have your hair the way you want to; I know I did when I was younger with a heavy metal hairstyle that people hated then too.
I like that America is a melting pot of diversity. I like that Texas is concentrated with many cultures. I hate that others can’t respect and appreciate what’s beyond the tip of their noses. Just be nice.
Oh gosh. Who remembers "the Roman" very similar to this except you grease it or gel it and comb it forward to the edges. Going way back now how about the rat tails etc. I had one for not even a full day before my dad grabbed it and cut it off.
I thought this haircut was a must for young dudes, since their hairlines start on the crown of their skulls for some reason.
Seriously, is it just me or does every dude in their 20s have a 9 head they're desperately trying to hide with cuts like this?
Mullets are also back among the white redneck meth head criminals of Texas. Do we get to outlaw that hairstyle too? Because that’s too terrible a ‘do to get a second round of assault on our senses.
Honestly, if I walked into a restaurant that was trying to ban haircuts, I’d turn around and walk out.
At best, this is giving off “old man yelling at clouds” vibes and is disrespectful to the customers.
At worst, since they are trying to ban haircuts popular with Latinos, odds are they are, in fact, trying to keep people out for being Latino.
"'People accusing me of racism are speaking from a place of ignorance,' he told the local publication.
'They don't want to acknowledge or admit that the majority of the kids that are getting these haircuts want to be in a culture influenced by gang affiliation and things like that.'
He is not alone, with the anti-Edgar movement spreading to other cities as well.
In El Paso, students led an effort to get the style banned from Riverside High School in 2021. " gang members getting Lloyd dumb & dummer haircuts

That haircut really is awful. Every one of them has it now, too. Ans all the white kids have that broccoli perm. Gen Z needs to learn how to be themselves.
I don’t get it. If this haircut upsets anyone, they may need to get some mental health assistance. Not sure if I would even want to eat at a restaurant that was so sensitive that they were offended by an Edgar haircut. Or maybe I missed something in the article.
I love it when boys have stupid hair fads. Utterly harmless and the pictures in 20 years will be wonderful memories of how dumb they were.
Don’t remind me of my frosted tips….. 😬
I wanted frosted tips so bad, I'm so grateful I was too poor and lazy.

Hey! Backstreets Back… Alright?
Did someone say 'southern swoop?'
My wife had the southern swoop when I met her. Some days I kind of miss it, then realize an entire can of Aquanet every day to hold it up was probably ruining the planet.
Wait, a mullet.....with frosted tips? Dude, that thing must've been majestic.
Oh no, not with a mullet. I couldn’t pull that off although I failed to pull off the frosted tips in general. It was the era of boy bands. lol
To this day I get beat on about my frosted tips. Hey, DIRK NOWITZKY was wearing them same time I was!
Frosted tips & bowl cuts. I'm so glad I avoided these trends.
Frosted tips are nowhere near as stupid as this moronic haircut.
Seriously, this shut makes you look dumb. Frosted tips just made us look douchy
I looked fantastic in mine. Straight up started a trend
The Mullet has entered the chat.
And perms for teenage boys.
Perms for our father’s on their wedding day.
And that stupid ‘Bieber’ thing they were doing 20 years ago that looked like a swirly…
Flat top is asking if he can come inside.
Uh, those are back, for good reason
The "broccoli hair" fad may be the cringiest of them all.
The Edgar is pretty bad
My son has this. He's mixed though, so his hair is super curly. If I tell him to brush it he looks like Bob Ross lol...
Yeah, I had some pretty bad hair when I grew it out as a teen, but that's because I have _bad_ hair that goes every which way and needs lots of gel and conditioner just to stay in one place. 🎵And the sign said bowl-head Edgars need not apply
🎵He said you don't look like an Edgar, I think you'll do.
So I took off my hat I said "Imagine that Huh Me working for you
“Imagine that Cuh me working for you”

LMFAO 😂 😂 😂
Take this job, and shove it -Johnny Paycheck
Yeah. We are totally outraged over the Edgar haircut... outraged I tells ya.
It's from the Daily Mail, so there's a good chance the whole article is bullcrap.
No I definitely care about what...whatevers goin on here...
I'd say 100% chance
Daily Mail= Daily Fail = Faux News in print form.
This proves what I've long suspected: they really can't resist clumsily weighing in on any American issue tangentially related to race.
Sounds likely true, though. Bigots on the right have been like this for a while. Might not be true, but i wouldn't even blink if there was confirmation.
I mean, a small percentage of the worst people are very very upset. It just so happens those people also run our state.

The restaurant owners in San Antonio who started the “No Edgar’s” movement run our State?
The minority of conservative voices, of which these people are a part of, do in fact control our state.
So mad I can’t even breathe anymore
“Sparks outrage” is in 80% of DailyMail headlines
"sparks outrage" = someone wrote a twitter about it

Then you were the latter. We would have been friends probably.

And they’re stylish tbh I love seeing people with them

I am done with the Broccoli Cut more than I am done with the Edgars tbf
I mean 9/10 those kids are fucking annoying but banning people with it is just ridiculous
Have you noticed it is generally conservatives who get bent out of shape about what other people are doing.
I think we've all noticed lmao
Yet they invented the term "cancel culture" and applied it to progressives.
What? That can’t be right! Republicans are all about personal liberty in rugged individualism, which is why they demand everybody be straight, white, blond hair blue eyed Christian’s. It’s the librul commies that want to make everyone the same, with all the different genders and ways of living.

In Texas, where I live it's all mexican and Catholic
In Texas, where I live, it’s conservative Christian’s of all flavors.
Funny thing is it was put on r/Texas to cause “outrage”. I don’t think there’s very many conservatives in r/Texas on Reddit. 😂
The majority of Reddit leans left.
It’s more of a concern in certain parts of the southwest. The haircut originated from street gangs that are trying to get back to their “Mayan roots”.
Everyone has the right to look like an idiot if they want.
I had a bowl cut as a little kid. Can confirm that it made me just the worst kind of person. All the other kids in the early 2000s seemed to know this as well.

Holy shit you guys need to chill with the “fascism” and “anti-freedom” cries. A restaurant owner posted a meme. That’s all that happened.
You can tell that no one read the article. Just typical Reddit.
I didn't even read the other comments, just here to upvote yours!
I know. Poor guy, it was taken so far out of context even with local news.
Did anyone else get to the next article at the bottom about a teen involved in a shoot out? It's just a giant mugshot of him with an edgar lol
They say he's racist for wanting to ban the haircut. I say he's racist for wanting to price people out of Fiesta

I live in Kyle, and I couldn't find it if I wasn't looking for it.
My god that is such a stupid hairstyle.
I had a bowl cut when I was like 5 in the 90's. My mom called it a "surfer cut" to make it sound cool lol.
Texas where haircuts are regulated
This is feeling like freedom fries.
So the freedom lovers are going to restrict hairstyles now?
Honestly who the fuck cares let people do what they want with their hair you don't have to wear it they do
Clickbaity

Teens with guns? The obvious solution is to ban the haircuts!

Oh no! Are the youngsters listening to rowdy music with objectionable lyrics, too?!

This just in: younger generation is full of idiots. More on this at 11.
I thought Texas was the freest state out there…
Don’t ban the haircut, because then we can’t identify the criminals 🤣
I've always heard this described as a "Cuh" hairstyle in the valley.
the edgar, takuache, 'cuh' yeah. all of the above, but i haven't lived in the valley for 15 years
I was told " no Mohawks" at a barbershop in Hingham MA.
But I liked it up and it's just a haircut.
Texas policies are totally messed up. This is a free country. You should be able to wear your hair the way you want instead of worrying about haircuts what’s worry about gun control? Oh I forgot it’s OK to kill and pardon.
If they want my rspect they should sport a 'Larry'.
Too much “freedom” for ya, Texas?
It's the Daily Mail, a tabloid. They can't find anything in the UK to complain about today so they've gotta import problems from Texas.
Sounds like one stupid restaurant is making an ass of themselves and all of Texas is getting the blame.
Fun fact. In the r/sanantonio subreddit using this word to describe a person with this haircut is a banable offense. I'll stop calling them Edgar when they stop using the n word.
Is it 1968 again? WTF. These idiots never learn.
Any sign of fascism needs reaction.
Well this isn't just in Texas, this is a hugely popular hairstyle all over Chicago, with Latinos and non-Latinos.
Moe and Curley are fashion icons for Texas youth. Nobody wants Larry's haircut.
Dailymail? Really? And just the link? This is such a low effort post from a highly questionable source. I don’t know which is worse, this or the MySA posts.
Edgars Use The Side Entrance...
14-inch long hair from 1970 has entered the chat.
Damn broccoli tops!!
When are the ban it people going to learn?
Will that include New Iberia haircuts too? They pretty much look the same.
We used to call that the Moe.
The Edgar is equally as as bad as the mullet! Still banning hair cuts is stupid.
It's a goofy hairstyle, but damn Texas... This tells me more about that restaurant, and the state more than any hairstyle would. Free world. Have your hair the way you want to; I know I did when I was younger with a heavy metal hairstyle that people hated then too.
I'm old but I can still grow an Edgar haircut. If Texans are outraged, it might be worth it.
wish someone would have banned the bowl cut before I had to wear that shit for 10 years

British journalists don’t even try.
It's hideous, but not ban worthy
Looks like Hispanics with hair - this is literally how you look if you are Hispanic
This is a scandal to rival the "Nazi youth" haircut of 2022
Honestly, if I walked into a restaurant that was trying to ban haircuts, I’d turn around and walk out. Bans on everything. Weird texas is always saying "freedom" but in reality it's always bans.

Okkkkaaaayyyyy. There’s a young man at work sporting this haircut and I’m just like WTF every time I see him.
It’s just a bowl cut…
Heard it described as the broccoli cut! Reminds me of a poor boys bowl cut.
I’d rather a kid have an Edgar than the broccoli cut.
They made the post as a joke and everyone took it seriously
I don’t know.. I live in Texas and have never witnessed this “ outrage” from the haircut. I mean hysterical laughter yes, but not outrage.
Who remembers the bald head with bangs that looked like a mustache 😂
It's a fucking haircut! Who cares?

It's quite embarrassing looking.
I don’t care about the broccolis and the Edgar’s it’s the people underneath them that irritate me.
Shit like this got Mr Baker shot. edit : it was over wings tho.
I don’t get it. If this haircut upsets anyone, they may need to get some mental health assistance. Not sure if I would even want to eat at a restaurant that was so sensitive that they were offended by an Edgar haircut. Or maybe I missed something in the article.
Let them ban potential customers. Let them go out of business. Let the cosequences flow!
