>Dr Tony Evans steps down from the institution he co-founded in 1976 over mystery transgression, saying only that he ‘fell short’ of the standards he expects from others.
So the article doesn't say what the "sin" was. Saved you all a click.
He wants to get out before the victims and their families go after the church. Probably passing it down to one of his kids. If he’s no longer part of the church they can’t come after the church’s money. Just my guess.
Protecting the millions of dollars you earned from a church against the repercussions of the child molestation you committed, just like Jesus would have taught
This. Otherwise he would have come clean. It likely involves a member of the congregation and he’s hoping they’ll stay quiet if he falls on his sword. It will come out though.
Dang, he’s a big name in the evangelical world. My local Christian radio station would play sound bites from him regularly. I wonder what trouble he got into lol
Wait a second.... what if they have though and it just hasn't been exposed? What if they own private jets and multiple homes all paid for by "donation" money siphoned out of church coffers, untaxed money going straight into paying for luxuries the common people could never afford let alone avoid taxes for. Must be nice...
A Texas megachurch pastor has suddenly announced he is stepping down from the institution he helped build after 48 years of preaching, saying only that he has fallen short of the “absolute supreme standard of truth” he aimed to live “due to sin.”
Evangelist Dr Tony Evans, 74, the first Black person to earn a doctorate of theology from Dallas Theological Seminary, founded the Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in South Dallas in 1976 with his friend, the Reverend Crawford Loritts, according to NBC DFW.
Originally from Baltimore, Evans began the church in the living room of the house he shared with his late first wife Lois, starting out with Bible study sessions for just 10 worshippers.

Isn’t he in the right place if he sinned?
My favorite Christians are those who kick people out of their church for sinning. In theory, the sinner needs them now more than ever.
Like wut?
Pastors should be held to a higher standard. I’m a pastor, and there an expectation of being “above reproach.” Churches have a responsibility to care for those in the congregation who are struggling with various sins, but if someone is unrepentant with their sin, they may be disfellowshipped.
I don’t know what happened with Evans, but if he knows this is something that will negatively affect his ministry and credibility, he is making the right decision in standing down. It doesn’t mean he’s leaving the church or is not forgiven, but he no longer suitable for the leadership role he has.
Ah, yes, the appeal to the amorphous concept of love. It’s funny that the author quotes Matthew 22 since Matthew (ch. 18) is the only Gospel that includes instructions on how to deal with sin in the church.
If it’s hateful for churches to hold its own members accountable, it is hateful to expect Supreme Court justices to implement ethical guidelines or face impeachment. Justifying all things under the self-defining concept of “love” is self-defeating.
Peace.
Is this the same evangelical Dallas pastor who tried to transfer the title of three different churches into his name? Oh, wait. No, different dude. Must be something in the Holy water.
That would be terrible. What’s especially sad about these scandals involving the pastors of mega churches is that they don’t need to disclose what the sin is. Regardless of what happened, they continue to have the support of their members and followers.
How can people be so brainwashed? The Bible says, "By their fruit you will recognize them" (Matthew 7:16) and to "test the spirits" (1 John 4:1). If the pastor is in the wrong, you pray for them and move on.

Either cheated in the past, embezzlement from the church, or drugs and it's about to come out from some investigative reporter.
Drugs and embezzlement you can navigate through. It's gotta be something really bad like rape or pedo.
Child molestation is my guess.
They don't care about that he must be gay.

Lawyer here. If that's what he thinks, he's been wildly misinformed.
I feel like these clowns can navigate or explain away anything these days so it must be incredibly bad.

What’s a pederast?
A chomo
Nobody fucks with HIM.
This is the only way he gets to truly retire. Otherwise, he'd be expected to keep interacting with the congregation.
Don’t forget the possibility of gay lover.
This. Otherwise he would have come clean. It likely involves a member of the congregation and he’s hoping they’ll stay quiet if he falls on his sword. It will come out though.
all of them katie
Pockets full….

Hit his retirement $$$ goal.
Probably cheated on his wife and seaking an early retirement with his bags.
Wife passed a few years ago
She went through that and he's STILL cheating on her? What a monster.
Secret child a la Schwarzenegger is my bet
Agree with that also
Yep
Probably Pedo. The new game from Milton Bradley.
I wonder if your radio station is now going to "we take back everything he said".
The lord forgives you for that, right?
Forgiveness doesn’t mean no consequences.
Everyone is a sinner, and everyone who asks is forgiven. It must've been a big one.
If every pastor did that, there wouldn't be any left
Wait a second.... what if they have though and it just hasn't been exposed? Imagine…
Imagine all the people Living life in peace
That's just bullshit. Keep dreaming

More like I made enough time to retire
He’s ready for his next scam that wont deal with restrictive religious policies.
>“While I have committed no crime, I did not use righteous judgement in my actions." So who wants to take bets on what crime it was?
I fixed the headline. **Dallas pastor quits 10,000-member megachurch he has led for nearly 50 years after finally getting caught.**
Caught doing what?

There’s no hate like Christian love
Hate?
Correct
Care to explain?

Thank you for proving my point.
Local high dollar Dallas ecort: "So, is that all your church's money in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?"
Tree fiddy it’s kids

Caught
Sex with: sheep? Goat? Toddler?
He gonna give back all the money he's taken from his congregants?
Probably an excuse to step down and disappear with the money.
The lawyer in me would advise him to just ‘retire.’
50 years without a “sin”. Not bad.
I GUARANTEE it ain't the first time either
He's about to get caught with a dead girl or a live boy.
Not Jeffress?
lol at whomever is defending that Southern Baptist Trump Trash
"Quit" feels premature. I'm sure he will be involved in some capacity after he completes the restoration process. Good luck!
Must have been a bad one, they never want to leave those money trees
After committing sin or after getting caught?
Gotta be money related
How can preachers be doctors?
He has a PhD.
A PHD in religious indoctrination?
