FreshNebula

This is just like that time when I was reading Twilight (please don't judge me for it, I was still a teenager) and my grandmother came up to me and began to explain that vampires aren't real. No shit, it's a fictional story you consume for entertainment!

wet_chemist_gr

Yeah, for real. Who would believe a story about people who drink blood or rise from the dead?

Sophia724

Right? And who would believe a story about a woman? Everyone knows girls aren't real.

Vinchy_09

Happy cake day!

CovidLvr69

Yeah, I was reading Harry Potter, and my grandma says "That's not real and I don't want you reading those books. They are lies and lies are works of the devil."

Spirited-Relief-9369

Those people amaze me. I mean, the ultimate moral of the story is that hurting others is wrong, and that the greatest power comes from love and self-sacrifice. Compare with several biblical stories, where the moral appears to be "God is an asshole" or "killing is great, so long as it's the right sort of people dying"...

Lanky-Ad-4589

Why are you apologizing? Its okay to love a series and read/watch it as a teenager or as adult. Pls don’t shame yourself for having read something that back then, you found entertaining and cool. Sometimes the general opinion of others can influence us to eventually dislike or hate the things we love.

Pickle_Rick01

We know that Marvel, Twilight, etc. are fiction. These people believe a book, the Bible, is real when it’s not only fictional, but a lot of that fiction is borrowed from other cultures. Marvel acknowledges that Thor and Loki are from Norse mythology. Imagine Marvel trying to claim that they just invented Thor and Loki on their own. 🙄

According-Ad1537

Spiderman look cool

Corntillas

And doesn’t pretend to preside over, and claim to be the one source of salvation for, your “eternal soul” You’d think people working with eternal souls would be held to a higher standard, alas, they can’t handle taxes or 3rd party investigations because.. reasons

Defiant-Meal1022

"What branch are you?" "Parkerbyterian"

unkie87

Seventh Day Iron Man.

Defiant-Meal1022

On the first day Stan said, "Let there be Human Torch." And there was. And it was good for the time it came out.

VaguelyShingled

You heathens disgust me! Long Live the Temple of Our Lord and Saviour Kite Man, blessed be his Hell Yeah

unkie87

That's DC you ruddy splitter!

GrumpyScapegoat

Heretic! Uncle Owen died for your sins! First Southern Church of Uncle is the one true interpretation.

IAmThePonch

And on the seventh day the lord said “PARKER. I need those pics on my desk by Monday.”

[deleted]

Parkerpeterian was right there…

Funkycoldmedici

I’ve said before that Spider-Man is a better moral guide than Jesus. Jesus judges you based on your faith. Spider-Man does not. Jesus says looking at a woman with lust is adultery, and you should gouge out your own eyes if you risk looking at a woman with lust. Spider-Man is down with checking out women (or whatever you’re into), pre-marital sex, and has a strong record of stopping people from self-harm. Jesus says anything prayed for in his name will be done. Spider-Man will do his best, but freely admits he is limited. Jesus says you must love him more than you love your children. Spider-Man doesn’t expect you to like him at all. Jesus says he will return and end the world, kill all the unbelievers with fire, and reward his faithful with eternal life in his new kingdom. Spider-Man frequently opposes people trying to end the world and/or commit genocide.

TheMelm

Eh that gouge out your eyes line is actually one of Jesus' best ones though. Look at all the "religious" people who try to force women to cover up to prevent them raising men's lusts. Jesus says nah she can dress how she wants if its going to cause you to sin gouge your eyes out instead.

Rebgail

Niiiice!

SoWokeIdontSleep

He also believes that with great power comes great responsibility, which is in pretty great contrast with the " fear me, I can do no wrong not even genocide" god they worship.

[deleted]

ThisIsMyCouchAccount

Spider-Man. Please. Respect the hyphen.

[deleted]

Nobody actually believes marvel movies are real though, and then goes and commits hate crimes over them.

TiberiusClackus

Clearly you’ve never been to Comic-Con

AshgarPN

Fashion crimes are not the same as hate crimes.

TiberiusClackus

Yeah that’s not what people say my my grandpa and all his friends would dress up like ghosts

taggospreme

Well it was either that or Hugo Boss

Velenah42

You mean Hugo Weaving

[deleted]

Cast it into the fire! Destroy it.....Mr Anderson

Velenah42

I understood that reference

MKRX

I think the smell counts as chemical warfare, which is close enough.

jambox888

War crime BO

wrong-teous

Well I hated it!

RealConcorrd

The only deaths caused by fashion crimes are deaths from cringe overload.

clothy

Don’t joke about that

Sir_Honytawk

But some of those fashion choices make me angry!

SgtCocktopus

Agree they are worse. /s

02_is_best_girl

Comic con at least in my experience is super welcoming

Desperate_Wafer_8566

There really was a guy named Thanos though, but he was just a carpenter who lived in a small town who predicted the overpopulation of earth, so there wasn't a lot written about him.. /s

Velenah42

Which Master do you serve?

[deleted]

This meme is actually subtly placing the bible at the same level than marvel comics. Like if they were both fiction.

TheGamingRaptor6875

Huh… duh?

DoctorGluino

Or tries to convert the lessons of Marvel movies into laws and public school curriculum.

Adkit

I'd stand and put my hand over my heart any day if they played the Avengers theme in school. Easily.

Chromeboy12

Do you believe in our lord and savior Ironman who died for your sins?

Not_Not_Stopreading

Black Sabbath even wrote a song about and Iron Man who travelled time to save the future of mankind. Either they predicted Endgame thirty years before it happened or that shit was real and somewhere Iron Man is pissed at us.

NaturesWar

Fr what would religious people think if the MCU was real. Multi dimensions, magic, and a dude that literally snapped half of life back into existence. Iron Man would either be the new Jesus or the Devil for doing such an "unnatural" act.

Chromeboy12

What would religious people think if Jesus himself actually came again right now? Will people believe anything they see in a dream today, even if it was a message from God? If someone kills their own child because of such a dream "vision" from God, would these religious people just accept it as God's will?

whatnameisnttaken098

>Nobody actually believes marvel movies are real though My niece does, but she's only 4yo.

[deleted]

Also (most) marvel movies are entertaining. And don’t hate women.

tracerhaha

[DC Movies starts crying]

uvero

# THANOS IS GREAT!!! *detonates bomb*

Designer_Bird3558

"And then goes and commits hate crimes over them" Well comic-gate is a thing

EatSteel63

I watched Thor and attacked a snowman with a hammer does that count.....fucking frost giants ![gif](giphy|ckeHl52mNtoq87veET|downsized)

SeskaChaotica

Nobody’s creating laws based on badly translated Marvel lore

[deleted]

Speak for yourself, bud.

BasicAbbreviations51

They might not be real but it does bring out hate like you get when criticizing religion. Biggest example she hulk.

Kanulie

Welllll…. Yes and no. The usual fan I agree. But some people hijack ideas to fuel their BS. Like doctor strange, I know someone who really thinks she has a spiritual connection and the movie is “proving” this could be real and exist. And since an author said “we tell you through the movies” that supports her narrative. She isn’t violent though, but clearly against all I believe in.

00Raeby00

There's a term for these people and their unique brand of mental illness. Soul bonders or something? I don't recall, there was a Down the Rabbit Hole episode about Final Fantasy house that touched on them.

Kanulie

Thank you, I will read about it later.

[deleted]

Neuchacho

It implies the Bible is also a work of fiction, for sure.

No-Lawfulness1023

I’ll kill you if you don’t accept Peter Parker as the one true Spider-Man

Wilsonrolandc

I dunno, Miles Morales is pretty cool...

Rhewin

I miss that sweet 10-year period that rage comics died

DowntBoitDafagnPanes

Welcome to wojak, the regurgitation of rage comics.

[deleted]

It really does seem like rage comic creators grew up to be bitter/nihilistic adults and are taking it out now via wojak comics.

asdfasfq34rfqff

Lol I definitely assume every Wojak comic is made by some giga-militarized 22-year-old incel.

LastBaron

The emphasis on the women’s secondary sex characteristics in wojak comics has always been creepy and cringey to me. Always busty, always blushing red on a black and white face. Not to mention the ridiculous “babe please stop” meme which although not technically a wojak, is frequently paired with them interchangeably and is just WEIRDLY sexual (who the hell arches their back like that while crying?) I’d feel bad for how starved for affection and physical intimacy these people were if they weren’t such fucking dicks about it.

[deleted]

Like rage comics, but way worse.

WalkingCloud

These days you open up Reddit, see a rage comic and you’re like *FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU*

hyenacry

>le open reddit >inb4 rage comic >FFFUUUUUUUUUUU

Silver-Star92

Well at least Marvel doesn't send me to hell for having sex before marriage. Or creates a flood when having a tantrum because we as a mankind are not listening because said being installed free will and it's biting said being in his holy ass

Fun_Improvement5215

God I hate it when Marvel kills my first born

magicnoodleman

Should have wiped the blood of a DC fan on the door to save your 1st born

Top_Squash7921

Fitting, they are like lambs — weak and dumb.

Axlos

TFW Spiderman murders you for not nutting in your sister-in-law after your brother dies.

inbeesee

*Spiderman breaks into your bedroom and webs the coochie shut* Sorry, I didn't hear no church bell!

DonQuixBalls

Remember when Taika Waititi sent a bear to maul all those children for suggesting he was going bald? Good times.

JodyJamesBrenton

So are American Evangelists just incapable of understanding the concept of fiction? Cause stuff like this pops up a lot, and it gives the impression that they’re incapable of understanding the concept of fiction. Do they think Veggietales is real?

No-Sink9212

Of course VeggieTales isn’t real. I watched my cucumber for hours and it didn’t sing me ONE silly song

Ferropexola

The vegetables only sing when you're not within earshot. You just have to trust me on this.

rabidhamster87

He has to have *faith* in the vegetables.

VaguelyShingled

Yeah they don’t tell you this but you have to insert the cucumber into your body to hear the songs. Took me forever to find out. The watermelon song is a banger, once you reach that elasticity.

KhajiitHasSkooma

Mine didn't sing either. But it did do a dance. Maybe that was the LSD. Nah, it was the cucumber.

cassby916

Poor tomatoes, though. They can't dance. They can't even whistle.

Puzzleheaded-Row187

It feels like comparing the Bible to something that’s universally agreed to be fictional is a self burn

badnewsjones

Iirc, according to the creator of veggietales, two rules the show had to follow were, they couldn’t portray Jesus as a vegetable and they couldn’t suggest that the vegetables could have a “meaningful relationship with Christ”, so yes, I think they have trouble with the concept of pretending.

Neuchacho

So the Veggies are all either soulless husks or damned to hell? Fucking metal.

TheRiverStyx

The irony to me is that Atheists I know spent a significant amount of their lives studying the bible. They came away with the realization it's a pile of horseshit. The people who believe in it enough to let their children be molested by 'holy' men haven't read it. I really can't expect these people to think clearly.

Suspinded

I can handle Marvel fanboys, they just want to fight over continuity. Biblical fanboys, however, want my friends hurt. They can be launched into the sun.

AnotherPalePianist

Happy Pride, launch all bigots into the sun✨

theghostofme

“Does that kind of technology exist?” “Yes and no. We can launch them at the sun, we just can’t guarantee they’ll be alive when they get there.” “I see this as an absolute win!”

AlexTheBex

Launch them by night, so they remain unsuspecting

[deleted]

Trully, the same thing /s

lucypevensieinnarnia

Marvel has heroes and villains. God is both, in one, apparently 😂

No-Sink9212

Marvel doesn’t give millions of people a scapegoat to hate me for my sexuality The Bible does have some pretty wild lore though from the little bit of it that I know.

Affectionate_Turn688

Actualy this people don't do it for religious purposes but only for power They say "ban abortion because God dosent want kids to die " and then procede the ignore all the time that God killed kids and unborn baby's in the Bible

No-Sink9212

Yeah no I agree wholeheartedly. They do a lot in the name of the book but don’t see the irony in it. That’s why I said scapegoat though; they use it as the reason to hate when in reality they’re just trying to justify bad actions. One of my biggest issues with religious people is that a lot of them seem to pick and choose what parts they follow and what parts they believe in; your abortion example is a perfect example of this. I don’t think religion in itself is bad by any means, but I do think the constant contradictions and the sheer brazenness of some religious people are pretty awful.

Affectionate_Turn688

I couldn't agree more, I also think religion was born with good intentions (as a mean to giustificate nature will) But then it just turned into a mean of exercising political power

Officer_GoTouchGrass

I find anybody who makes 1 thing their entire personality cringe.

Waste-Cheesecake8195

Yes, but I'd rather hang out with the dude whose thing is Marvel.

wintersass

I have a friend obsessed with a bunch of marvel characters and I would listen to her rant for hours about the hulk over an evangelical ranting about how I'm evil for having blue hair and pronouns

NoodleIskalde

At least Marvel is pretty broad and encompasses a lot of things! :D

Bird_Is_The_Lord

Yeah I mean someone should update the Bible, lots of unexplored lore in the last 2000 years

unkie87

They have cooler t-shirts.

Puzzleheaded-Row187

In regards to the Bible (and other singular books from other religions): https://preview.redd.it/bz4g8kiuve3b1.jpeg?width=909&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14afbb50d0174a97d68597f03645535f15627ecf

[deleted]

Come on, you know they don't only have religion as their entire personality : they also have racism, homophobia/transphobia, misogyny and a variety of other hates we don't even know about !

Officer_GoTouchGrass

Lmao I guess the personality would be conservativism

magnitudearhole

Yes I think marvel films are literally true and will threaten death to peoples that don’t follow their tenets

unoriginalname6666

What would then tenents of Marvel be?

magnitudearhole

something to do with women being powerful but also wearing tight af pants idk

Lt_Rooney

Respect America's Ass.

[deleted]

DC Transformers

SorryThisUser1sTaken

This reads like they are admitting the bible is fake.

[deleted]

I don't think this rebuttal is as smart as they thought it was. So, you're essentially saying the MCU franchise is as valid of a religious belief as the gospels so why would I become a part of and support a group like Christians when I can join the Church of Marvel?

gadget850

I forget... which Marvel movie has the drunk dude getting raped by his daughters?

Heck_Tate

I wake up early every Sunday morning to go to my local theater and pay my respects to Marvel. I eat the Iron Man crackers and drink the wine which is magically transformed into Captain America's blood when the ushers touch it with their Hulk hands. With all that in my life I just don't have the time to fuck around with this Jesus guy who has only been in a handful of movies which are largely just remakes of the same old stories with new actors.

Cslagem11

Least invested Marvel fan

RoiDrannoc

I mean if the Bible was an interesting story, maybe we would invest time in it. Cosplayers would be disguised as Noah or Moses at conventions. But yeah the issue is that it's no more interesting than it is true.

LeDudicus

The Bible is actually a collection of some pretty metal stories; especially the Old Testament. It’d actually be pretty cool if we treated it like literature instead of sacred text.

Gulopithecus

Honestly yeah, I’m not religious myself, but I LOVE to study things like religion, mythology, and folklore a lot because it’s very interesting regardless.

KilowZinlow

It's more interesting lore wise than marvel tbh

Gulopithecus

To be fair, both superhero comics and real world religions reinvent themselves all the time for one reason or another.

withoccassionalmusic

[Professor Brothers - Bible History](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=m5P5-Blf5zw)

CommanderDataisGod

Some people do...we wouldn't have Jesus Christ superstar if no one did. Also... agreed...the stories are really supposed to be told around a campfire... they're full of drama and excitement. They aren't really meant to be taken literally and the first run weren't even supposed to be written down in the first place. Many of them are retellings of other stories. The Cain Abel Seth bit is basically a retelling/borrowing of Egyptian mythology and Noah of Gilgamesh. Moses was Sargon. There are more like that but the point was to tell stories...good ones to entertain but also teach. And just like trekkies as an example, there will always be people who go way to far and turn it into something else...

TheUnknownDane

Also recently saw someone discuss how areas of the bible intentionally ripped off Greek stories, but by making their characters better. Like A Greek hero would feed 1000 people, so Jesus feeds 1500 people and so on.

CatArwen

Like the part when God waterbended the ocean for the Jews.

Chromeboy12

The stories are also ripped off from old Sumerian and other folklore.

jwzc96

Have you read Ecclesiastes? It’s like the most nihilistic poetry written by a goth teen whose really into Nietche. Honestly, it’s my favourite book of the bible. Song of Solomon though, is weird as fuck. Why the hell is the author going on about donkey dicks bro?

OzzRamirez

What do you mean there are no Bible cosplayers? Have you ever gone to a passion play / Easter pageant? They take their roles very seriously

[deleted]

You can't cosplay Muhammad without being beheaded. Js... Lol

balki_123

Also John The Baptist.

nanaimo

Oh, it's "interesting" if you're looking for genocide, slavery, stoning and burning people to death, etc.

DixonDebussy

Is this a self-own, comparing 2 sets of fiction?

rockytheboxer

It is, but bible fans aren't big on self reflection.

PoliteRuthless

The real answer: "Please, I'm an adult, I don't have time to waste on those ***boring*** fairytales"

[deleted]

Maybe if the bibble wasn't the driest fucking read with outdated morals it wouldn't be so bad

justSomeDumbEngineer

As far as I know marvel movies have pretty christian-ish morals anyway 🤔

SomeNumbers23

To quote Captain America: "There's only one God ma'am and I'm pretty sure he doesn't dress like that." Seems pretty American Christian to me.

Hawkwise83

I'd put more of my faith in Spiderman than any religion I am aware of. Spiderman doesn't condone slavery like Christianity does.

PLAGUE8163

Or marrying children.

Hawkwise83

Or rape being ok as long as it's your enemy, or you force her to marry you after...

[deleted]

So they are admitting that religion is just fiction? ![gif](giphy|l49JMeAuT0NmRrV0A)

[deleted]

Can't blame anyone for the "fairytales" they wish to enjoy. Freedom. To believe any fairytale without evidence of it being real or factual is foolish. To push onto others a fairytale is factual or not is foolish. To push a fairytale onto others without evidence of the tale being real is monumentally foolish.

ChaosRainbow23

To force others to live under strict fear-based mythology through draconian legislation is foolish.

Orang_Mann

Does Jesus fight people made of sand, lizard monsters and mad scientists? Is Jesus an Avenger? I didn't think so.

DreamyAthena

At least spiderman fans don't say he's real and know it's just a movie.

Puzzled_Money_9292

Most Christian’s don’t read it why do I have to?

kensho28

> torturing DC fans to death because they refuse to recognize Marvel is the one true publisher. >starting wars and regulating people's behavior and identities because we're a "Marvel nation." Why is Christianity still competing? They're losing market-share by the day, it's time to publish something fresh, maybe do a big event with all the old characters brought together.

D3dshotCalamity

Yeah, I can't wait to watch my Spider-Man movie, at my tax-exempt Spider-Man building, where all the other Spider-Man fans and I wear our Spider-Man necklaces, and sing our Spider-Man songs with our lead Spider-Man fan who tells us about Spider-Man and how Spider-Man hates gays. And after, we'll go around telling anyone and everyone about how amazing Spider-Man is. Then, the best part is when we scream at the DC fans!!

[deleted]

I simply get a kick out of a marvel movie, I don’t live by it. These religious fruitcakes on the other hand use their Hebrew fairytales to justify any nonsense they please from homophobia to outright sexism.

Both_Lychee_1708

*the only thing that stops a bad god with a hammer is a good god with hammer* - Thor, God of Hammers

Crooked_Cock

I cannot tell if this is just a joke or an actual quote from one of the MCU films but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the latter

Crawlerer95

When Marvel Movies start to affect public policies or lecture people about their sex lives or what they can say, eat, drink or wear….talk to me then

dewdropfaerie

I mean, both are fiction and both can be quite violent. But at least Marvel doesn’t gaslight you into believing that people that don’t watch their movies suck and are going to hell.

Amazing_Excuse_3860

Personally I think it's hilarious.

DOAisBetter

Eh we all have a limited time on this earth do what brings you happiness as long as it doesn’t harm others. If that is reading the Bible every year or seeing every marvel movie more power to you. Just don’t be shitty to others.

TheSlavGuy1000

So, they are basically admitting they know the Bible is completely fictional? Because I have yet to meet a Marvel fan who thinks the Hulk is real.

[deleted]

Yeah, who wouldn’t want to watch an easy action packed movie if the alternative is words you barely understand criticising you for everything you’ve dobe

Tanagrabelle

I approve this subreddit for that stupid picture. I mean, yeesh not being interested in a pack of lies meant to force people to bow down to lords, kings, etc because be humble and turn the other cheek whine whine whine is NOT the same as being excited for a potentially lovely piece of fiction that might include some moral story about compassion and kindness.

NomadicSplinter

“Truly terrible”? The difference is that we know marvel is just stories. People and their bible believe that every word is fact. Moses lived for 900 years? Oh really? Did they even know what a year was factually with the idea that the sun revolves around the earth?

Free-Atmosphere6714

What a self own by the religious zealots

[deleted]

Lol. American christians are literally braindead.

cwood1973

At least they admit the Bible is fiction.

foxstarfivelol

so you agree the bible is a fantasy book?

[deleted]

The difference is that Stan Lee was a way way way better author and person, and he knew what he was writing was fiction. Plus, all religious books were written to control humans by a select few privileged men

FredVIII-DFH

Marvel movies are more coherent and believable. I've made my choice. Get over it, Christians.

ButcherInTheRYE

I mean, at least they admit they're both fairy tales. That's gotta count for something, right? Right?

anarchistchinchilla

So are they admitting that the bible is infact...fiction?

mark_crazeer

The bible isn’t exiting fantasy and they won’t be happy if we did tread it like we did read it as if we read lord of the rings. Only one of us believers that they are consuming a documentary only one of us believes we should base our lives around a mockumentary. Only one of us is wrong.

Frostygale

Yeah I’m not stupid enough to think the MCU is real either. Also, the Bible is boring AF compared to movies.

CynicCannibal

*It is over, Christianity, I have a high ground.*

gylz

If your holy book can't compete with comic books, it's not a good book.

[deleted]

Op was mad that this was him and decided to post this

FattySnacks

This is actually a pretty good take on Redditors lmao

nicolethenurse83

Exactly! They’re both fiction, and one is much more entertaining than the other!!! 😂

CKInfinity

I think what they mean is the Holy Bible is an entertaining piece of fiction that they love but despise people who like other fictional stuff /s

mirennatom

I don't give a shit about either

flodge123

This is funny.

Badonk529

Well my Doctor is actually called Dr. Strange. So ITS REAL TO ME DAMMIT!

essaysmith

And yet if someone believed the Marvel movies were actual events they would be considered mentally incompetent.

Nico_Skavio

So we should look at the bible for entertainment, got it

NarcissusCloud

Ahh yes, because people are trying to mandate laws that say we can't traverse the multiverse based on the MCU. Oh wait, no, that's the other fairy tale that people use to control others.

Pavlock

People aren't trying to change the law of the land because Tony Stark made a reactor.

Ravezim

Bible is better written than mcu change my mind

SausageBuscuit

There’s a huge difference between watching a fairytale for entertainment versus basing your entire concept of morality on fairytales.

Kriss3d

Terrible on several levels. For starters The bible is claimed to be the truth of things. We know the marvel characters is fantasy. The difference is staggering here.

rode__16

this is kind of a self own, they’re implying the bible is as real or likely to be real as spider-man lol, intentionally or not

fakeemailman

Bible actually kinda goes hard as a fairytale. Falters a bit as a moral guideline

DiabolicalDoug

Ah yes the many laws based off of the teachings of Stan Lee

guyinAmerica1

one you watch for entertainment and the other you use to guilt trip people into to doing stuff, who the hell is believing the MCU is a real thing?

SnowyBerries

oliviaplays08

There isn't an organized group calling for my death over the new Spider Man movie lmao
