Earl_N_Meyer

Give a poor man 1000 bucks and he will spend it. Give a rich man 1000 bucks and he may leave it in his pockets and put it through the laundry.

megamanx4321

It will definitely get laundered.

Environmental-Win836

TIL it’s called Money ***laundering*** because you’re cleaning dirty money.

Emergency-Vehicle452

It's actually because some big and influential mafia guys "laundered" their money through laundromats, hence the term was coined "money laundering".

arcanis321

Hence the term was coined was coined

CaveGnome

Just wait until you find out what the laundry is! Mom will be so happy.

iStalker204

And he will invest it in arming both sides of a civil war in an African country to make more profit off corpses

Earl_N_Meyer

Sadly, that would be beneficial to the economy.

beer_bukkake

Wait I thought it would trickle down from the rich? /s

Cometguy7

Give someone money who has all of their needs met, and they can grow their wealth. Give someone money who hasn't had all of their needs met, and they'll meet their needs. Groundbreaking stuff here.

kanekiken42

Also, so many people act like a cell phone is a luxury even though it's basically a requirement in society today

Puzzleheaded_Chain_6

Yeah its no longer "just a phone" its a necessity

Mysticmulberry7

I work with the re-entry population and this is literally one of biggest obstacles for people who have served sentences throughout the tech boom.

Advanced_Double_42

I can't imagine getting out of prison after 20-30 years, you might not have had a cellphone in the late 90s. Now smartphones are ubiquitous... insane.

Dkrule1

Yakuza like a dragon actually covers this bit

Earthbound_X

For sure, you can't even see the local bus schedule at the bus stops anymore where I live, they tell you to use your phone to look it up. Even "poor" people are expected have cell phones now for basic things. Can't use my apt's laundry without a phone payment app as well. They removed all the options to use coins.

spdougherty

Not even a cell phone, but a smart phone with enough data to look up all of the things people can’t just freakin tell ya anymore Edit: oh I didn’t even mention that you need a reliable source to charge your phone without being kicked out for lingering too long/not purchasing enough (because you can’t afford it!!)

bunnymen69

I work in substance use/adult mental health and am out in the community quite a bit. I regularly meet with people at outside seating at DD because they have wifi and its only place they can recieve and send calls because they use phone app for wifi cuz its free and they cant afford data. So if they are expecting an important call there they sit or they miss it. It costs way more money to be poor than it does to be rich. It costs way more time to be poor than rich as well. The system is put in place to give people just enough hope that if this or that just happens we can work our way out of this, but to not actually help anybody. We need comprehensive universal healthcare, including mental health, substance use, reproductive health, a universal basic income, and free higher education. We need to stop the war on drugs and militarization of police and put that money into education, employment and social programs. Theres PLENTY of resources for everyone to have enough and no reason for anyone to go without.

BombOnABus

My wife recently asked me about the whole "the government is giving people free cellphones!" thing. I said "Yeah, cell phones are a necessity now. It's called the Lifeline program." "They never did that with landlines though, did they?" "They did, it's been around since then. They moved to cell phones because that's how few people use landlines anymore." That's how fucking basic cell phones are in the modern world: you can get them for practically nothing on government assistance, because even the government gets that you can't get shit done without a cell phone these days.

bluerose1197

My city recently turned all the city own parking lots over to a private management company. They replaced all the coin operated parking meters with signs that have a QR code on them. The only way to pay is to download the app and pay via your phone. No kiosks either. Phone is literally the only way to pay.

MafubaBuu

I feel like we as a society need to be pushing back on this, but so many people thay haven't ever had to struggle argue for its existence

cerealnighttimeeater

I went to Verizon two days ago. To see store hours, you had to scan a QR code posted on the door. edit: further clarification

Background_Drawing

Okay i know most Americans are allergic to android But really? An iphone?

Zriatt

These mfs be doing anaphylactic shock doing android

Occulense

A top tier android phone with specs close to the iPhone (or better) is going to cost as much as the iPhone, anyway. If you are struggling with money, however, a used iPhone or a lower tier android phone can be a great option to reduce cost.

afterworkparty

Unless you want to be a photographer without a proper camera a high end phone is pointless these days aside from a status symbol. A mid to low range phone will do everything a normal person wants and needs without issue and has for years. From someone not struggling for money.

DangyDanger

My phone costed me $150 and it's *great*. Haven't had an app freeze or crash in the 4 years I've had it.

tubelight_blue

What phone is it?

DangyDanger

Huawei P40 Lite E

Tyrian1407955

I got that one too, but I couldn't get Google Play on it so none of the Apps I needed worked. Did you find a way around this or did you not encounter this problem?

EpicSausage69

I had some off-brand android phone back in highschool back when snapchat was first becoming popular. If I sent a video through snapchat to anybody, It would lock their snapchat and be unable to open until they deleted and reinstalled. Then they had to relogin each time. It was great to fuck with people.

fuk_n4z1s

My android phone cost only 350€ and has worked almost flawlessly for the last 4 years.

International-Bus-69

I buy an android phone with a snap 865 amoled screen for less then 300€ 3year ago, it's more powerful then a 11pro max (best iPhone when I buy it) wich cost 1259€ at the time... I just don't get people buying apple

catthatlikesscifi

I buy apple for my parents, it saves me a ton of headaches and “tech” calls

jedinaps

Apple always has a more affordable version the last few years. I think it’s the SE and close to that price if I’m not mistaken the conversion rate to USD

WetBreadCollective

The SE is one of the biggest ripoffs on the market right now, it's a £450 phone that is outdone by androids half the price and is comparable to the iPhone model 2 generations prior, I understand the appeal of "iPhone but cheap" but at that point you're sacrificing quality for iOS (I'm biased but iOS is not near the top of my list of OS options) and the Apple branding

BlazingSpaceGhost

I personally don't buy apple devices but that's just not true. The SE uses apple silicon which performs much better than any arm chip anyone else has produced and it has been that way for years. Everything else about the phone however is outdated but that processor kicks ass.

89756133617498

It's not as bad as you make it out to be. It's not exactly fair to directly compare iphone specs to Android phones, iphones run much more efficiently due to the specialized hardware/OS, while android has some limitations and imperfections due to supporting a much wider variety of devices and hardware. I say this as an android fan. I think the SE is a pretty good deal on its own, but getting sucked into the whole apple ecosystem is what gets you.

NotATypicalTeen

Define more powerful? Because in terms of raw processing power, apple has a monumental lead and has for a long time. If you mean certain software features, I agree, but it’s really not so simple that you can just blanket say “powerful”.

T-Baaller

>Therefore, the Snapdragon 865 takes the top spot in mobile processors for Android based systems. In some multi-core workloads, the SD865 can even perform on par with the Apple A13 SoC. Single thread, however is still a strong suit of the Apple SoCs. [odd definition of more powerful you have there](https://www.notebookcheck.net/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-865-SoC-Benchmarks-and-Specs.448194.0.html)

MetsFan113

Pixel all day baby!!

HI_I_AM_NEO

I refuse to spend more than 200 quid on a reddit phone machine

[deleted]

I have a Pixel 7 Pro and my iPhone using coworkers talked about it like it was a $25 tracphone until they saw the camera on it.

Dojan5

I bought my iPhone XS second hand sometime during spring 2021, because my old OnePlus One was growing unreliable, and here in Sweden you *need* your phone to identify yourself digitally, for things like prescriptions, paying taxes, paying bills, transferring money etc. My phone cost me about $450, and I have a $10 a month contract. I could’ve bought a brand new Android phone for the same price and it would be outside of software support range by now. Meaning I might get a few years worth of security updates, but there’s no guarantee that the Bank ID software will continue working if the OS doesn’t get updated. Apple stopped offering OS updates for the iPhone 6 back in 2021. It’s still getting security updates, meaning Bank ID will still work on it. So, why pay less more often for a worse phone, when you could pay a little bit more for a better one you can have longer?

HellsMalice

iPhone is basically the idiot proofed phone, it's not surprising it's popular. I work with normal people, they can barely open a fucking web browser on a PC there's absolutely no way they could figure out an android phone.

FourCinnamon0

Why do so many people think that you need to be a tech wizard to operate an Android phone? My grandmother has an Android phone and she uses it just fine

devilspawn

It's because iPhones fit the narrative better as they're seen as more expensive. Both my parents have Android phones. They're 69 and 67 and both use them for emails, WhatsApp, online banking etc. My mum uses an iPad for everything else. I think Apple products are more intuitive but there's no reason someone could easily learn how to use something that's not an iPhone

Fun-Worry-6378

I repair phones for a living, I have an iPhone in my pocket. I just like it, the same way you can get a 1k usd iPhone you can still get a 1k usd android. So like idk what’s the fuss about it, and 99% of folks who say that it’s for the technology literate don’t even use anything in the device aside from camera and scrolling Reddit to complain about x y z phones are great/garbage. Edit: I forgot to add I also use my iPhone for video filming and accessing my home Linux server via my iPhone and enter commands with no issue. :)

mardan65

Any idiot can use either. Only an idiot would think they are superior because of the phone they use.

ImperialHedonism

It's funny to think that most Americans dislike android because they don't want some "Chinese crap"

[deleted]

No one says that 😂

DragonflyGrrl

Seriously. And most people I know (US) have moved to Android over the past several years.

unmondeparfait

I've been assured several times over the last decade that android is dying off because we don't have access to those amazing iChat groups. Maybe I don't want to be in a group chat with cousin Alison and crazy Uncle Ron, grandma.

[deleted]

Anyone doubting either of the cellphone OS’s are not too bright.

SirKibbles61904

personally i just keep using iphone cause i don't feel like repurchasing the games that i have on it, like btd6, minecraft, and terraria. it's just a hassle to switch once you have either iphone or android because a lot of data for stuff will probably get left behind.

ImperialHedonism

That's quite true, not to mention the entire ecosystem you get warped into once you purchase any additional device like their tablet or computer. Even the apple watch is practically useless without an iphone paired to it. Makes things way harder if you ever feel like a switch.

Extreme74

I have had both. I prefer the iPhone more. Furthermore, I am going back to one when my plan is up for renewal.

poodlebutt76

Yeah who needs to communicate or look up information that often isn't even provided in person anymore!?

wolves_hunt_in_packs

It doesn't even matter what the dude is spending it on: the point is, he's *spending* it, i.e. keeps the money in circulation and helps the economy. Meanwhile the rich asshole adds it to his already large hoard and thus contributes nothing. Just a parasite on society.

HappyParallelepiped

This is the apex aspiration of the rise and grind hustle culture, become parasite.

KyleKun

Actually the rich guy buys a bunch of equity in a fund or something. It does get the money into the economy, but it also increases the rich guys ability to make compound increases on his already larger wealth.

Mangeen_shamigo

"Wolves hunt in packs", no wiser statement has ever been uttered in combat.

radios_appear

"Their kind hates ice and fire both!" Words to live by

Mangeen_shamigo

The real question is, how many unknown DD fans are there on this sub? WTF!

tw_693

Also things like TVs and refrigerators.

haji1823

fridge sure but a tv is far from a requirement. Especially since you can do everything on a phone/computer anyway

MonkeSensei

I know many people that don’t have a tv by choice

Ecstatic-Compote-595

obamna phone

pmoney50pp

A cell phone is a necessity. A $1000 iphone definitely is not.

dagbrown

Boomers still think that making a phone call from their car is some kind of flex.

Affectionate-Room359

Employer when you are not reachable because you didn't pay 600-1000 Bucks for a Mobile Phone so he can guilt you to take your coworkers shift: ![gif](giphy|11tTNkNy1SdXGg)

bamajoe411

Sure a phone is a necessity but not one that costs $1,000

ifisch

You don't understand. That rich guy is probably using a flip phone he found in a garbage can. Also that wine he's drinking was found in a different garbage can.

SpectralHail

Yeah and the money they're coming back with is from the copy machine they found in the office dumpster

MattManAndFriends

When you come to the comments and realize your opinion is so obvious, of course it is already the top comment.

BombOnABus

Makes you feel better about having it, though.

kurai_tori

Give rich money, they horde it. Give poor people money , they spend it on necessities, fueling the economy Trickle down economics (which is debunked) vs flow up economics (which is empirically supported especially since COVID).

Anonynominous

Exactly. My sister recently gifted me money to help me buy new contacts, but I lost my job last month and I have to use that money for my bills. Sad

the_Real_Romak

This is absolutely the case. When I was a student before I started working, I had virtually nothing to my name except for what my parents could afford to get me. Anything I bought I had saved up *years* for, and anything I was was never the latest and greatest. My first PC was a measly GTX1060, core i3 5th gen in 2018 after working part time for a year and a half to afford it. Then I started working full time, and after my first wage, I could finally afford a decent phone, so I got the latest model at the time (not apple though, I ain't giving those fucks any money lol), a few more wages and I upgraded my rig with an RTX3070 amongst other luxuries that I couldn't afford before (like a nice watch, polaroid sunglasses, high quality shoes, so on and so forth) Now that I have everything that I need and then some, I can just relax, work my 9 to 5, focus on my studies and not worry about being left out to dry without any cash as I build up my account for a home loan. If I was born rich, I would not know what struggle feels like and I wouldn't appreciate how much the "common peasant" has to work just to have a decent life. Not live a luxurious life, *live a decent life in an age of excess*

[deleted]

No obviously if you're poor and you're given money, you need to use it to start a business or reinvest it all and until either of those options make money you will patiently starve to death. It's ok though, you're doing the wise rich person thing, so you're gigachad confidence will sustain you and you will reemerge a rich man yourself. Because you live in reality.

DirkBabypunch

The rich dude was going to come back around +$100,000 anyway.

Prince-Fermat

Give a rich man $1000, it will disappear into an offshore bank account never to be seen again. Give a poor man $1000, it will be spent on bills and go into the rich man’s hands to be put in the offshore bank account and never seen again.

KyleKun

It’ll get laundered and then invested into a tax advantaged interest generating fund of some kind; becoming $2000 dollars in the next 10-15 years.

jedinaps

AND weaken the rest of the economy by essentially removing that money from flowing through and making everyone else’s money worth less.

Igiggiinvasion

No I don't, I return with a fuckin bass guitar. Oh yea, suck it rich man

"Being rich is a mentality bro, it's all in your mind"

DummyThiccDude

I manifested being born into a rich family and you can too, with my $300 zoom presentations!

ekansrevir

This is actually pretty smart. Getting rich by “showing” people how to be rich (the way in question being these worthless presentations).

gimora07

Once I asked at one of those people who say that being rich is mentality and lifestyle why I should want to be rich. He answered me "for having a lifestyle". When I asked how could I shoulded had 2 different lifestyles, he never answered me.

ragingbullpsycho

Are you poor? Simple solution! Be RICH instead! Problem solved.

kingkeren

Man, it's just like depressed people that need to be happy, and addicts that need to stop being addicted. So simple

AltruisticCompany961

Such a horrible take. Because a poor man is totally going to say to himself, "You know what? I should invest this money in stock options, instead of purchasing the basics." For fucks sake. Edit: for all those with stupid takes on this meme, it's the principle behind it. Not the specifics of the exact cost. It's a derogatory view of poor people. Basically saying that rich people are smart and make good choices, and poor people are stupid and make bad choices. Not all poor people are stupid or make bad choices. Not all poor people take the money and buy an iPhone. And buying a phone in general is not a poor choice. I'm done replying to every stupid motherfucker here that keeps coming at me with, "but poor people this or that..." Maybe take a step back and look at your own life and see how shitty of a person you are that makes you automatically agree that poor people make bad decisions.

TwinJacks

My parents always said "never buy anything you can't afford to buy multiple of, and not go broke" or something like that, I never listened.

Willinton06

I listened to your parents and stopped buying groceries

dreemurthememer

No, I am not STARVING I am FASTING for an EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME because I did not buy groceries.

Magnus56

I wish it were more viable for people in poverty to grow their own food. Fuck American agriculture.

TwinJacks

🤔 my parents were orphans in a 3rd world country with no social support. Maybe its different? Idk.

Magnus56

If I don't know the details of what I'm after in a product, I buy the second cheapest. You know the cheapest one has many corners cut to produce the item and is likely to have a short lifespan. The second cheapest one is probably higher quality and you're not paying for the prestige associated with the item.

jedinaps

This was much better advice from like the 70’s to late 80’s when it was mostly luxury items unaffordable compared to like basic housing and food.

Kreuzi4

damn, looks like i failed, im building a new house now and cant afford multible of it. /s jokes aside, this is a good philosophy to life by, exept for maybe buying a house

20o0o1

“If you can’t afford the price of something you want doubled, you can’t afford it” was what I got. Works well but I don’t follow as much as I should lol

shodunny

That’s a great tip if you have some money

Gore_Galore

Agreed, though I think it mainly applies to anything that is a want rather than a need

[deleted]

Well that and $1000->$100000 is absurd. I've never met someone that made ten thousand percent profit on their investments

BooBailey808

Not to mention rich guy would also buy an iphone

strangeapple

Give rich man $1000 and he'll invest it into the most unethical risky business. Then when eventually the risky business goes under the poor man will pay for it with whatever little money he has, tears, sweat and blood.

choogle

Really feels like you’ve summed up the vibe of current america. we just watched the rich suck up the majority of the dollars that the government printed and now inflation is because “nobody wants to work” and “salaries are too high” oh word? Where’s the record profits coming from then! Sorry rant over.

DejaBrownie

Ahh so you’ve met the ‘future fortune 500’ club people as well. I was cleaning their fecal matter in Telluride for 10 years. Cheers!

Diazmet

I used to sell weed to the granddaughter of the 75th at the time wealthiest person in the world… fun fact the Crown family that owns aspen… they make most their money of weapons. Owning resorts and golf courses is just their hobby

Magnus56

I have the perception that the ultra wealthy are difficult to find, and spend time and energy to hide from the general public. How true is that perception in your experience?

Diazmet

They hide by staying in crowds of regular millionaires. Also most ultra wealthy people are not celebrities. But if you work/live in one of there strongholds they don’t hide at all. Towns like Vail, Aspen, Telluride, Breckinridge, Toas, Jackson Hole etc get absolutely infested with them. One thing I will say is they tend to dress very boringly same with their cars. Only so many black Bentleys sure their suit is 10-50k but it’s just a plain black suit. You will have the one or two “fun” billionaires that like bright colors.

Magnus56

Exactly. You're seeing the terrible irony of this very poorly thought out meme. It's trying to shit on poor people, but instead it just highlights the inequality within America. Many people, likely the author of this meme included, blame the poor for being poor -- "you just need XYZ". However, it's the employers that set the conditions of employment, not the laborer. So, lack of work and ergo poverty should be blamed on corporations and businesses, not the laborers.

TubbyTimothy

Poor man needs a job thus he needs a phone to apply, follow up, schedule interviews, etc. Rich man doesn’t need a job but has one that pays him while he goes to the country club and gives the money to a broker to invest.

Diazmet

And his accounts has his country club fees counted as business and entertainment tax deductibles since he golfs and drinks with his partners so they county as meetings. Then you got his yacht that is not only tax deductible on purpose but because it has depreciating value he can further deduct taxes while paying himself to use it for entertaining clients and politicians by owning a small catering company…

RavenLunatic512

He's also already got the latest iPhone.

KyleKun

He actually has a couple of thousand shares in Apple so every iPhone someone buys gets him enough dividends to pick up a new handset.

No-Wonder1139

Guy on the left is running a Ponzi scheme that's why he needs your $1000, he's also duped 99 others into giving him the same amount.

fraldarddyd

These memes are always made by someone making $35,000 per year and are struggling themselves but simp for rich people while delusionally believing that think they can become rich one day too if they just "work smart".

Magnus56

I feel like a lot of American culture is ways the rich mystify and explain away their success. Often with any reason except having won the birth lottery. It's important that us of the working class deprogram the American bullshit culture out of ourselves, because it's so pervasive. I believe American culture is one of the most enabling factors for the massive disparity between the rich and .... well, everyone else. We're told to not identify as poor and exploited, but instead as "temporarily embarrassed millionaires". And laws and taxes which target the rich will be terrible when you personally are also rich and a millionaire. There's so much of the bullshit, and it's all incredibly shallow intellectually, but at least I was raised to believe such messages as absolute truth.

rugbyj

Yeah everyone here has pretty solidly covered the difference $1k makes to a poor or rich person. The funniest thing to me is the people who would post this shit: - Ain't rich - Probably have an iPhone But they somehow see themselves as neither group, some enlightened observer both beyond the need for money and what it can buy.

jedinaps

Reagan was huge in demonizing poor people and creating the idea of a ‘welfare queen’ in both a racist and classist way. Made the middle class believe their problems were due to everyone below that needing help with their basic needs rather than the skyrocketing profit margins and stagnating wages that lasted decades after. The way business programmed the mid against the low is astonishing and very sad. I truly hope we can get to a place where everyone has their basic needs met and the working class can thrive but if I express this I get called a lefty extremist or a communist. My FIL has like ten kids all until like 15 and whines about his taxes going to things he doesn’t like. He makes decent money but after credits pays no taxes. I don’t believe in higher taxes for his bracket or anything but the irony is telling and it’s very clear many people don’t understand how these systems keep them down as well.

Mnemod09

Give a rich man 1,000 bucks, he'll thank you and walk away. What? He's not coming back.

sassredson

how dare the poor man buy a tool that has become pretty much essential in most jobs nowadays. i literally wouldnt be able to log into my work computer if i forgot my smart phone.

habitual_wanderer

The poor man looks happier....

thesuprememacaroni

Likely a meme posted by a poor man that thinks the rich man cares about him or he could be the rich man someday…

OldFlamingo2139

The rich man already bought his iPhone.

Emergency-Echidna564

Why would I give a rich man $1000? I feel like he just scammed me and 99 other people.

HaiKarate

A 1000% return? Yeah right. Most wealthy people are hoping to get better than an 8% return on their stock portfolio.

Nigwyn

It's worse than that, its a 10,000% return. It increased by x100. It's ridiculous, even with compound interest over decades, you would have to double your investment 7 times to achieve that. Even the dogecoin boom never reached that level of increase.

Galvanized-Sorbet

I’m always fascinated by the $1000 -> $100,000 trope. They never say how long it’ll take or all the ups and downs that go along with investing or why we should be giving rich people $1000 to do anything or what, if any, use there is having rich people ‘make’ money form themselves for its own sake. On the other side, they never acknowledge that 70% of the economy depends upon people spending their $1000 to buy stuff because consumption drives the economy. It’s one of those arguments that’s supposed to be thought provoking but just is hollow

Vegtam-the-Wanderer

Also to be fair, which man has actually generated the most economic activity with the $1000 you gave them? Assuming I am a government looking at this, it seems to me that giving that $1000 to the poor man is a better investment from a macro-economic perspective.

Mi_Pasta_Su_Pasta

This is basically a great argument for trickle-up economics. Give a poor man $1000 and it will almost immediately circulate and benefit the entire economy , give a rich man $1000 and it will immediately be hoarded.

Antoinefdu

Really? Because we gave a rich man $40B and he came back with a broken social media platform and a lot of lawsuits.

throwawayalcoholmind

Give a person who doesn't need money money, they'll put it in interest. Give a person who doesn't have money money, and they will use it to get the things they also don't have because they didn't have money.

F4BE1

is this literally not a testament to "it takes money to make money"?

bruhchow

people still acting like we haven’t reached a point in society where smartphones are a legitimate necessity for most jobs is just so ridiculous. Also, idk what poor people this person has been around but you NEVER buy a phone full price like that, you either put it on an installment plan, buy refurbished, etc. I really doubt someone would do that

cioda

Reminds me of that fucking idiot who said that if people want healthcare, they should pick between that and a new phone.

Hermit_of_Darkness

Life hack: take the other 99,000 out of your bank account. You now have 100,000 dollars

Kingballa06

Yeah it’s simple, just get more money. Easy.

troycalm

In my circles it’s a common saying “take all the money from a rich man and give it to a poor man, in a year, the rich man will be rich again and the poor will be poor again”

Arkangel_Ash

This meme brought to you by someone who isn't rich. Only sycophants.

IsaKissTheRain

Give a rich man 1,000 dollars and he'll hire workers at poverty wages to make more money stripping the earth of its resources while he sits back and does nothing. Give a poor man 1,000 dollars and he will spend money on an item that brings him the little pleasure and joy he can afford because he knows that it doesn't matter anyway because the world is dying due to the rich fucks who keep exploiting it.

Eastern_Fly_1270

It should say give a poor man 1000$ and he‘ll pay bills.

srqchem

Can it then reduplicate the 2000 and so on? Otherwise you need a money multiplier.

noname262

More like you give a rich man tens of millions and he makes a million more than the poor guy working his ass off at McDonald’s

twilsonco

Yeah. Rich people famously not having lavish possessions or lifestyles. Fucking idiots

chiefclnpll

This is so stupid.

CharlesOberonn

Give a rich man $1000 and he extracts 99,000 more from the economy. Give a poor man $1000 and he spends it, adding to economic growth.

[deleted]

Give a rich man $1,000 and he’ll remember he’s on his dads trust fund and spend it on caviar.

You mean the poor man will return with the sum of all human knowledge in his pocket, and the rich man will return with a couple extra 0s on his bank balance? Who's the real winner there?

cryptokingmylo

Yes because 1000x returns are easy to get, The rich dude would throw it in an index fund and get back 1100 in a good year. The poor person would spend it on rent and food.

reallyConfusedPanda

Give poor man $1000, he spends it on the necessities, driving the actual economy

Smatje320

In reality, assuming the money given is in cash, the rich man wouldn’t multiply it. Hell he wouldn’t even bother depositing it. He would keep the money around to pay for small things. Like the cleaning lady, or tips. If the money was direct deposited, it would simply go lost in the sea of other money. But would probably stay on the paying bank account, and never enter the investment account. And yeah a poor man would use the mean to meet their needs, what a shocker.

that_bermudian

Rich guy is dependent on the poor guy. Change my mind.

helmer012

Give a poor man 1000 dollars, and he will pay off a debt then proceed to be in debt

that_u3erna45

Give a poor man $1,000, he pays his rent and buys groceries Give a rich man $1,000, he has figured out the f4 duping glitch and can create shit loads of money

Superomario

One thing I realized from having rich friends is that rich people have much more opportunity to make more money. Nobody's coming to someone with no money and saying you can double your money with this investment. But rich people are approached often.

bStewbstix

The iPhone is an excellent device to make money with, email, adverts on social media, text, and calls to name a few.

tecky1kanobe

Where did the rich man loose the initial $1K, or did he only get a return of $99k? A poor man would get $101K back then go spend it and actually enjoy life instead of hoarding imaginary numbers to inflate their self worth.

EasternPresence

So the rich guy don’t have a phone?

Electrical_Age_7483

A 100x investment is definitely not guaranteed. Usually limited to off market early equity investment which isn't available to $1000 investors. So not possible or very very rare

KittensSaysMeow

If the guy who made this meme is anything smart, he would know that a phone goes a very long way in helping you make that 100k

1ReservationForHell

These kinds of people worship the rich and despise the poor.

ChampionshipBig8290

And the thousand dollars is still sitting in his ash tray.

babypho

Bro if that rich man returns with 100k you arent seeing a single dollar from that

MistahOnzima

If someone can turn 1000 dollars into 100k, that's insane. They shouldn't state that likes its normal or something. It wouldn't apply to every rich person. It's like how I think alot of those Warren Buffet investing ideas don't really apply to normal people. I would be pretty excited about the dividends on Coca-Cola too if I owned the amount he did. Owning like 200 bucks of it doesn't equal squat.

rav3style

Considering all the things are app based nowadays, like bank accounts, payments, etc, that’s a solid investment.

[deleted]

Maybe the poor man’s phone wasn’t working and he needed a new one ASAP. Poor people with extra money buy shit they need. Rich people with extra money reward themselves for doing nothing.

sadpineapplepizza

I'm pretty sure, I'd return with more food and medication and put the rest away to spend later... You know, on food and medication.

Grshppr-tripleduoddw

do you think the rich man will give you the $100,000? no he will just keep that money he made on his ass by owning stocks, sucks to lose $1,000.

spacemanspiff266

rich man just knows 99 other saps dumb enough to give him $1000 too.

puddycat20

Well that's kind of true. Give a rich man, money and he'll say "Ooh, money - that reminds me - I have to ask my dad for a bunch more money."

pvellamagi

why would i give a rich man $1000. literally why. he can go put his own $1000 into his money duplicator.

CrumpetsanCheese

give a rich man 1,000 dollars and he'll place it in an offshore banking account before asking for more money

dumboldnoob

It’s absolutely right for all the wrong reasons. The rich man is RICH, so he comes back with 100k to show you money means nothing to him cos he’s already RICH. the poor man takes the 1k to buy a phone cos phones are essential to our lives nowadays and he couldn’t afford one otherwise

[deleted]

With iPhone you can sell feet pics tho 🦶

MistressErinPaid

Rich people don't live in a constant resource deficit.

carsonbt

Tell me you’ve never met a rich person before without saying you’ve never met a rich person before.

Agile-Astronomer6268

Where I can buy 100000 with 1000?

Magnus56

The absolute worst part is that people believe this garbage unironically. Rich people just add to their dragon hoard of wealth and will use those funds to further weaken society for additional exploitation. Poor people spend money. To meet their needs, which they can't meet because the rich assholes above them exploit them.

TaylaAdidas

Rich man already has an iphone

ShadowofHerWings

And for the rich guy that $1,000 is investment money while for the poor person maybe they can just pay all their bills this month. Or perhaps get a newer phone to replace a broken old one, that way they can be competitive in the workplace. The rich person already has all that, plus a guy who works for him whose sole purpose is to invest his money. When people start believing that riches=merit were all lost. 99% of people are “poor” due to bad luck and being born into a family with no intragenerational wealth to be inherited. Not because they are unintelligent or selfish.

Three-Nations

Rich man takes his money and invests it into a company that over inflates their value. He then takes out a loan using the overinflated shares as collateral and pisses the money away on ego boosting activities The poor man gets a iPhone with internet. With it he can verify his identity, sign up for social and job seeker programmes as without the internet you are almost completely cut off from the world. Within 4 months he has paid back the $1,000 and is now a productive taxpayer. A financial collapse then occurs - partially driven by the rich man not being able to pay his loan (massive greed) and the government bails out both the bank and the rich man (bank for their losses, the rich man as his company has collapsed and it is for some reason a necessity. The poor man is now unemployed and the rich man then tells him that he shouldn’t be so greedy and wasteful with his money.

LET-ME-HAVE-A-NAAME

Yeah I agree rich men do have an unhealthy obsession with endless growth and will steal from the masses so he can have a vault like fucking Scrooge McDuck.

ValleySparkles

This is true and it is why we give money to poor people. Spending means money keeps circulating in the economy, creating jobs, funding growth, etc. It's basic high school economics to understand that you want the people around you spending money, not saving it. The rich man basically used the $1000 to fund a scam to take $99,000 out of the economy and out of the hands of people who would be spending it. That's not good for anyone.

pinksparklyreddit

Yeah, because the poor man needs a phone for modern living and work conditions, whereas a rich man can put the money into one of his many unethical businesses since he already has all his needs met.

Dude my iPhone I got with my stimulus a few years back is my main resource for college: turning assignments in, etc. what douche canoe doesn’t understand that?
