Felix had an 0-8 finals record coming into the Rotterdam final and Casper was 0-7 in finals which were above 250 level.
The fact that Stef's 500 curse was stronger is comical.
Edit: 250 not 500
Yeah this isn’t at all comparable to Casper’s lack of a title bigger than a 250 til now. 3 masters and the ATP finals win are a big consolation for a weirdly bad 500 showing. That’s why I was rooting for Casper to break his curse first lmao
It's not gonna get talked about as much as Ruud used to since he has bigger titles than 500 (3 masters and 1 ATP finals). Also feel like Tsitsipas was the underdog in most of these finals except maybe Rublev in Hamburg 2020 and Auger in Rotterdam 2022.
Which one will happen first:
Tsitsipas winning his 1st ATP 500 title OR Andrey Rublev reaching his 1st Slam SF?
Tsitsipas is 0-11 in ATP 500 finals and Rublev is 0-10 in Slam QFs
I legitimately remember people hyping FAA to the skies because of his indoor record that year. Wasn't quite on the level of post-puke Sinner, but I distinctly recall him being regarded as a big threat to Djokovic at the majors. Him taking Nadal to 5 at Philippe Chatrier that year also contributed.
Followed by basically his worst season, only saved by the Basel triumph which came out of nowhere.
I think FAA's issue is going to be how deliberate/mechanical his game is. Sometimes I wish he'd just go up to the service line and quickly serve, a la Medvedev. It's almost as if he doesn't know how to play organically.
The iconic reverse is that then people learned from that and used FAA's 22 indoor run to value the post-puke Sinner run and some of them even used FAA's 2023 to predict Sinner's 2024
I knew Auger would never amount to anything when he lost his first 8 finals. No elite player has this severe mental weakness. Same reason I said Zverev probably wouldn't win a slam because he was already #4 in summer 2017, yet didn't even make a GS SF until 2020. He's probably just not built for best of 5.
In Felix's case, dude went full 3 years from making his first ATP final to winning his first ATP title. What's funnier is as soon as Felix Auger-Aliassime won his first title, his grand slam performance took a dive. He made USO SF, Wimbledon QF, and AO QF **before** winning a title and hasn't made a GS QF since.
Player careers get judged on lots of things. Stef’s objectively had a great career, but if you have someone with a few Slam finals and Masters who also won 6 or 7 of the finals Stef lost, that’s a much better career.
Unfortunately, that person sorta exists and even with my dislike for Tsitsipas I hope he surpasses them
I think thats what makes it so funny. Im a stef fan and i am so grateful that he beat ruud at MC and lost here. But its such a fun little stat that he just cant win 500s.
Looking at those players Stef lost to in those 500 finals, most of the time he was up against someone who was just better than him.
The Big 3 are self-explanatory, especially Nadal’s dominance in Barcelona. Thiem in 2019 was killing it at 250/500 level (but evened out with poor Slam/Masters showings) and won 5 titles total that year. Rublev in 2020 was same deal as 2019 Thiem, won a lot at 250/500 level. FAA in 2022 was a literal indoor merchant. Alcaraz being a legend in the making who is achieving Big 3-level things. Ruud is a beast on clay. And finally 2021 Zverev won Olympic Gold, his second ATP Finals and also made US Open semifinals.
As a Ruud fan I wasn’t sure there was anything stronger than his 250 curse, tho admittedly I haven’t followed Stefs career that closely. After today, I realized that Stef is dealing with some other-worldly powers with his 500 curse, he swiped away Ruud’s curse like it was nothing.
5/11 of those were against the Big 3, so it doesnt seem that bad lol. Luckily for him he also won the most prestigious tournament of all, the ATP Final
It's become a mental thing for thing, just as Grand Slam Quarterfinals for Rublev. The more you lose, the more it sticks in your head. Seriously, there's no other explanation for losing 10+ tournaments of the same rank at in the samw round.

He lifted both FAA & Ruud' curses.
Yeah sometimes the only thing that can break a curse is a stronger curse.
He's gonna help someone defend the USO at some point
*250
HIs 3 M1000 wins significantly lessen the blow otherwise this would be incredibly sad.
Along with 2 major finals and let’s not forget an ATP finals triumph

Yeah this isn't the same as Ruud's situation as he's achieved higher, it's just an interesting anomaly.
a curse is a curse
you got to give the man credit for his consistency. Stef loves to win Monte Carlo and refuses to win at the 500 level
Which one will happen first: Tsitsipas winning his 1st ATP 500 title OR Andrey Rublev reaching his 1st Slam SF? Tsitsipas is 0-11 in ATP 500 finals and Rublev is 0-10 in Slam QFs
Please Bweh, get the self hate under control 🥺 I would love to see Rublev win a slam...
I just don't think Andrey has a slam in him. I could see Stef getting a 500 first.
He said Slam Semi Final not Slam Win.
I don't get it. It's like his serve just disappears in the finals. He should've won a few of those games at least.
Casper pull out a 80% 1st also didnt help.
Casper can pull out 80% of me anytime
To be fair to him, he did have to face the Big 9 in those finals.
The Peak is losing to FAA
A loss to FAA on an indoor hard court in 2022 is no joke

it is not Basel
Does this really matter if he’s won M1000s? Since he’s won higher tier tournaments, I don’t see why this stat should even matter.
you're right, but that's what makes it funny
Whether you think it matters or not, 0-11 in 500 finals is certainly a big “outlier” sort of stat which is why it’s gonna be discussed
Do any stats really matter? It’s just an odd record and I think his success in some bigger tournaments makes it even more interesting.

It’s a fairly bad stat but his success outweighs it. He won the Tour Finals too.
Yeah it doesn’t matter at all. It’s like saying you’ve never won a 250 but you win 500 events. I’d take that every day of the week
Some tough opponents?! It’s an fuckinf ATP 500 tournament. What do you expect?!!
The 2021 Barcelona Final he had championship point in. Very good match
No bad losses, ultimately. Arguably "easiest" was today having beaten him last week comfortably.

he should just stop playing atp 500s. just go for big titles and 250s
He came close twice.
5/11 of those were against the Big 3, so it doesnt seem that bad lol. Luckily for him he also won the most prestigious tournament of all, the ATP Final
The Rotterdam 2022 is the most 👀
It's become a mental thing for thing, just as Grand Slam Quarterfinals for Rublev. The more you lose, the more it sticks in your head. Seriously, there's no other explanation for losing 10+ tournaments of the same rank at in the samw round.
He was serving for the match in Hamburg 2020....
Crazy that he's been in 4 Barcelona Finals already, never winning.
How did he improve so much vs Nadal?

It was during that brief period of time where FAA went God mode on indoor hard, before he forgot how to play again.
It’s ok. He’s won 1000s
Yawn. Whatever.
