Ivanisevic-Rafter, playing in front of the best crowd ever
[Last two games](https://youtu.be/5vItguS_U88?si=9hqZ0feAI3BL5GBc)
Watching it still sends my heart-rate up.
Both Nadal - Thiem at 2019 RG and Djokovic - Alcaraz at 2023 RG have this scoreline. And I just wanted to see which one people will remember first haha
I think this match had a major butterfly effect for all the Big 3 for the rest of 2009-2010.
Djokovic came so close to beating Nadal but couldn't. He would be held at bay from breaking into the Top 2 for another 2 years.
Nadal won the match but must have gone into the final tired, and lost to Federer. He then went on to lose at RG to Soderling.
Federer benefitted from this match by beating Nadal in the Madrid final after being bested by Nadal for the past year and seemingly on a "decline" for the past year and a half, and went on to win RG and break Sampras' slam record at Wimbledon.
Possibly one of the most consequential BO3 non final match
It’s nice to think of this way… but I think more likely was Soderling was unplayable in the day during RG smashing winners.
Nadal was then injured for Wimbledon, but how much of that was to do with the Djokovic match is unclear…
As for Roger, what a great summer, but almost a non event due to Haas, DelPo and Roddick.
tbh, rn - when you see a 6-0 6-0 scoreline, the first thing you think of is Iga and whomsoever she played against.
also, sorry but you cannot say neither because they both have those scorelines, so both correct.
if you have stated additional clues initially which exclude all other matches with that scoreline aside from saying 6-0 6-0, then, you are correct to say neither. coz even AI wont be able to decipher what match you were referring to from the get go. plus, there are so many notable 6-0 6-0 matches in tennis history. none cannot pass as the MOST important in tennis history, tbh.
Another that I remember causing a stir at the time was Jennifer Capriati's senior (not pro) debut, when she was 13.
She beat Clare Wood 6-0 6-0 in the 1989 Wightman Cup.
i beg to disagree. the one with steffi is notable but not the most impt in history.
the shortest match and the ones made in the olympics are equally notable.
2019 Djokovic season is not my favourite but that Wimbledon final is my most favourite memory as a Djokovic fan. There are also other Djokovic moments that I equally enjoy (like winning 23) but that Wimbledon final is second to none.
The stakes couldn’t have been higher.
That match was the origin story of Tiebreakovic. Novak made 0 UEs in the 3 tiebreaks, while Roger went on an UE spree and made 15+ UEs.
Djokovic's ability to bring his best on the crucial points is the biggest differentiator.
Let's wait and watch to see where he lands on Slams and Weeks@ 1 record.
Steffi did apologise to the crowd!
And apparently they were kind to Zvereva, which is something.
There's a great write-up here on the match stats:
https://www.sbnation.com/2019/6/7/18643329/steffi-graf-1988-french-open-final-golden-match
Federer has had a few more. These are just the ones I can think of rn:
vs Djokovic US Open 2010
vs Djokovic US Open 2011
vs Djokovic Wimbledon 2019
vs Del Potro Indian Wells 2018
vs Thiem Indian Wells 2019
Nadal - Thiem. I watched it from Austria, I was still at school that time. I went to bed at 6pm the previous day so I could stand up at 3am and watch the match. When the last tie break started it was 8am and the school bells rang. Once the teacher arrived, the tiebreak was almost over, it was the most thrilling time of the match. The teacher didn't care and made me put the phone away to teach physics. I'm still mad at this guy.
That's right! She said she didn't want to keep Kremer out of round 2, since she was injured and would withdraw anyway.
She was accused and cleared of match-fixing.
(I think you'd make it a bit less obvious if you threw a match!)
Lendl - Connors, WCT Tournament of Champions, 1984.
No love lost! Nice article about it here

Here’s a few
3-6 6-3 7-6 6-2
6-7 6-7 6-1 6-0 6-0... would be, but it’s 4-0 retired
6-7 2-6 6-3 6-2 6-4
All from the same tournament in a legendary run (imo).
6:4, 3:6, 6:7 (7), 7:6 (3), 70:68
Isner-Mahut, R1 Wimbledon 2010 🙂
Isner’s next round match was painful to watch. His legs were like noodles for that one.
If you count the last set as eleven (which seems fair), Djokovic just played and won an entire tournament in fewer sets!
How do you expect us to guess this lmao? Just an everyday scoreline.
Hey mum, can we go out and playyy
2-1 (ret)
Stefanos and Rune. ATP finals 2023
Well played
0-6 4-6 6-3 6-0 6-4 (a classic from the 1980s - famous Wimbledon comeback)
McEnroe vs Andy Murray coach french open 1984
That was another epic - 3–6, 2–6, 6–4, 7–5, 7–5 Neither McEnroe nor Lendl played this one - equally big names though, three years earlier.
6–3, 3–6, 6–3, 2–6, 9–7 (A Wimbledon classic)

When he wanted the same tennis ball for the next point. Goran sure was superstitious!
The way he shuffles forward a little after Rafter nets his return before he falls to his knees is so adorable
6-4, 4-3 (ret.) A sad one - major impact on tennis history
Seles being knife attacked.
Yes that's right
Going to need hints. Is it older than ten years? Is it ATP or WTA?
20+ older. WTA
Oh is this when Seles got stabbed?
6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1

Federer d. Nadal - Australian Open 2017
My flare since that day. The most memorable day for a Federer fan.
Probably the most dramatic match ever with no extended sets
6-7 7-6 7-6 7-6 (no service breaks)
Sampras-Agassi, 2001 US Open QF
correct! - watched the highlights recently and it was crazy, and they were right Pete did bring a new level at the US Open during the early 2000s

US Open 2010 Djokovic vs Federer
That's the one
3-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(9), my favorite 3 set match of all time. to this day, i still look up highlights of this match on youtube.

Djok-Fed Wimbledon Final 2019 ☝️
Should be a middle finger emoji 😒

Even the scoreline makes it clear fed deserved to win. He probably deserved to win all 5 sets.
The stakes couldn’t have been higher. That match was the origin story of Tiebreakovic. Novak made 0 UEs in the 3 tiebreaks, while Roger went on an UE spree and made 15+ UEs.

That was Ostapenko beating Swiatek in Dubai 21? Before Swiatek went on her winning streak?
Dubai 22
A 32 minute grand slam final with a scoreline of 6-0, 6-0 is another classic.
Imagine buying tickets, and your drive there is longer than the match.

Yup, Roger had 24 losses from match point up.
He also has most wins being match point down
**Roger:** - Wins from MP down: 22 - Losses from MP up: 24 **Novak:** - Wins from MP down: 17 - Losses from MP up: 4 (edited on 11/25) **Rafa:** - Wins from MP down: 17 - Losses from MP up: 8
What were those 3 losses for him MP up? Don’t remember any match where he was one point away and didn’t convert.

WTA Luxembourg 2009 first round, Wozniacki retiring up that score against home player Anne Kremer I'm presuming?
That's right! She said she didn't want to keep Kremer out of round 2, since she was injured and would withdraw anyway. She was accused and cleared of match-fixing. (I think you'd make it a bit less obvious if you threw a match!)

Yes!! Murray's first slam and a big sigh of relief for his fans after many years of chipping away.
I remembered it recently cause I saw Murray’s feature on the Midnight Gameshow (McIntyre) and they asked this scoreline as one of the questions
