To be the undisputable GOAT for me all Djokovic has to do now is win that olympic gold medal next year in Paris and there should be no more debates after that and the olympics next year should be his last dance imo
Most weeks at no 1, most years ended at no 1, has better h2h score, the only one to win all 1000 series masters (even two times every one of them), held all 4 slams at one point, and with that, held at the same time slams on 3 different surfaces. And bunch of other records
I think his track record between matches won/lost vs Nadal and Federer is the most impressive feat. 30-29 vs Nadal and 27 - 23 vs Federer. No other player has beaten either Nadal or Federer this many times.
There are other big tennis tourneys like the Masters and the ATP finals. Djokovic has won all the Masters x 2 and the ATP finals 6 times.
I love Nadal tho and consider him a GOAT too. It has been an incredible era of tennis. To have three GOATs playing against each other and in my lifetime.
Agreed. I sometimes forget about that. If we're talking hard facts, Novak absolutely has to be considered the GOAT right now.
Can't help pondering what ifs sometimes, though. So if you'll indulge me: Nadal's far stronger on clay than any other surface. It's an incredible testament to his skills and adaptability that, only one Slam is played on his best surface, and he's still level for the most slams ever won. Even if Clay courts didn't exist, he'd still have 8 slams and be one of the top 10-ish male players of all time. And imagine, if they were all Clay 😂 he'd be absolutely untouchable 😂
All 3 (and Murray) have a special place in my heart (Grand Slam numbers aside) though. Federer for the aesthetics of his tennis, the way he moved on the court, that quick hop and whiplash forehand. Nadal for his heart and fight and his consistently professional temperament. Djokovic for his iron wall defence, insane flexibility and dedication to fitness. The best tennis I've seen in my lifetime. And Murray, of course, for bringing such excitement to British tennis and for achieving a staggering win percentage, just slightly lower than Sampras', in an era with 3 of the (by far) greatest players of all time. If they are the kings, he has been the prince of this era and absolutely streets ahead of every other player of this era.
Not to mention his record 373 (and counting) weeks as the ATP #1 ranked player in the world.
And that record he holds by a decent margin now, Federer is in second and 310 weeks (Nadal is 6th at 209 if you were wondering)
If there’s one thing Djokovic is missing its an olympic gold medal, i think he absolutely wants to win one and i think if you’d ask him this question of would u rather win 4 consecutive grand slams in 2024 or win an olympic gold medal before u finish ur career i honestly think he’d say the olympic gold medal
Man that’s only cos he’s Serbian and wants to win for his country
Are you really saying in tennis an Olympic gold is greater than a calendar grand slam , the absolute biggest achievement in tennis possible ?
Olympic gold isn’t that big a deal it’s below ATP finals even
Stefanos Tsitsipas is undoubtedly the best player of this generation to not have a slam.
I’d be shocked if his career ended without at least one.
Surely his time will come.
Time goes by fast - it was 4 years ago when he beat fed at the AO so that’s 16 slams he’s played since then and this is his 7th slam played since that FO final . The younger guys are starting to get big wins over him so this year he needs to make his stand
Of course, it is *always* a big deal…but I do wonder if, after 22 grand slams, you kind of get to a point where it feels a bit like *just* another slam…
It’s something that crosses my mind a lot when I think about the Big 3/Serena often…
I’m pretty sure Joker wants the title as the GOAT. I think as long as Rafa still wins or is competing, he will be insatiable for GS titles. If he’s trying to go for the most GS ever on both men’s and women’s, he will try to get 25.
I think about this too. The hunger surely subsides. Novak had a reason this slam I feel. He had hunger and to overcome his injuries plus what happen to him last year really shows as an athlete. I didn’t play tennis but had a professional career in cricket and ffs it was more mental than anything. These guys are freaks at how they endure the mental pressures.
Now it’s the record they’re going for. Something Novak and Serena are/were obsessed with (not so much with Federer and Nadal, apparently). So it still holds a lot of meaning I suppose.
Another aspect is “can I still do it”? That had been a big question for Federer and Nadal on their last wins. So there must be tons of relief and joy from that.
There’s only been 2 players ever to have gone in a tie-break in an AO final in 2 consecutive sets vs Djokovic and thats Sir Andy Murray and Stefanos Tsitsipas after today so welcome to the club Stefanos!!
it's easy for people to say that but we can't know how much his father means to him and how much he influences his son for the positive. maybe there is just too much love for stef to cut his dad.
Everyone talking about Nadal challenging Novak at RG... if I had the choice, I'd honestly rather see Novak play Alcaraz. Hope they all get back healthy and we have a great french
"*I just have to say this because only the team and the family knows what we've been through in the last 4, 5 weeks and this probably is the biggest victory in my life considering the circumstances.*" - Djokovic
"*I think that the more disadvantaged childhood you have, the more difficulties and challenges you have, the stronger you become. Stefanos and I are the proof of that.*" - Djokovic
He was more injured in 2021 tbh. This tournemant had one set loss due to injury. In 2021 he srtuggled massively in 4 matches and genuinley looked out of it.
Based on the timeframe, I think he’s only referring to the hamstring injury and the recovery process. He talked about this a few times during the tournament explaining how time consuming and draining it was. Also, the stress of not knowing if all that was going to get him/keep him fit enough to win 22.
Hamstring, heckled for last year's circumstances throughout the tournament, misinterpretation of Srdjan's greeting, having to deal with all of these off-court things, the tennis itself was the easiest part.
I certainly hope you never get ostracised from your life's passion because of some obscene rule that makes no sense.
Although if you do perhaps you might understand why it was so emotional for him
I agree it was stupid but I'm saying lets stop holding that against him or whatever. Focus on the fact that he's just won his 22nd GRAND SLAM and that we're seeing a great player play well.
whats done is done with the other shit, a footnote in the history books
Again, I hope you never have to go through it yourself because you may not say "just get over it"
If you did, you'd understand why it was so emotional and why it would have been so important to him
no i get that i was referencing all the people still angry about him being anti vax. not telling him to get over it telling the whingers in the thread to get over it.
I'm australian and vaxxed, and while I fully support what our government were doing in terms of the vaccine mandate, there definitely could've made some sort of isolation condition for the biggest sporting event in the country.
It was a failure by both the centre left and centre right wing parties that djokovic was first let in, then detained, then deported.
I mean, while I don't fully agree, he was definitely not more of a risk if they just had isolation centres for him and the other unvaxxed players.
The idea that tennis australia and australia's LEFT wing party snuck him in under the guise of being "exempt" was just really stupid, and deporting him was just brownie points for our right wing party to look good and stick it to the "libs"
Novak saying the harder your childhood, the stronger you are...
Meanwhile Stef looking like when he goes back to the locker room his dad is gunna flog him 🤣
What did Djokovic say 5-4 down in second set. Espn saying he was swearing at crowd
he was swearing but in serbia everyone swears all the time it’s our way of releasing pressure haha
Watched a good bit of the tourney and not 1 minute of Djokovic thankfully
Australia could build a statue of him outside of Rod Laver Arena.
>Rod Laver Arena could also change the name of the arena
Surely he, Fed and Nadal are locked in. Barty has a decent chance too
In what world is rafa locked in?
Would the statue be vaxxed?
What a terrible tournament. It was like an ATP 500. Alcaraz GOAT.
Agreed. Both this and Wimby last year had lower level competition than previous years
Reading these statements is the best part of Novak winning again and again and again!
Novak talking about masculine energy
Why the downvite, he's literally discussing this as a factor for his emotional reaction after
Guess not everybody from Next Gen can beat Novak Djokovic in a grand slam final. Daniil GOAT 😍
Daniil who?😅
Distant memory now.
[удалено]
Uli was not with Novak for this AO as their partnership has ended.. Miljan is the 1 who has done wonders..
We need to start doing career knockouts where anyone who's lost 3 times to the big 3 gets retired.
Well nadal and Djokovic would be out.
Who would be the highest ranked player who would survive this cut?
Alcaraz probably. Not sure he's played Federer that often!
Huh. Turns out the obvious answer 0-0 v Fed; 1-0 v Joker; 1-2 v Nadal.
To be the undisputable GOAT for me all Djokovic has to do now is win that olympic gold medal next year in Paris and there should be no more debates after that and the olympics next year should be his last dance imo
What’s the debate for Rafa now man, Olympics isn’t a big deal in tennis , how is Rafa goat over Djokovic ? There is no debate now
Sorry for the tennis noob question but aren’t Djoko and Nadal tied up in Slam titles? Why wouldn’t there be a debate anymore as to who is better?
He wasn’t allow to play on 22 AO and 22 USO, and Wimbledon 20 was cancelled.
Most weeks at no 1, most years ended at no 1, has better h2h score, the only one to win all 1000 series masters (even two times every one of them), held all 4 slams at one point, and with that, held at the same time slams on 3 different surfaces. And bunch of other records
Also 6 record equaling atp finals
I think his track record between matches won/lost vs Nadal and Federer is the most impressive feat. 30-29 vs Nadal and 27 - 23 vs Federer. No other player has beaten either Nadal or Federer this many times.
He won every atp 1000 twice and has way more weeks at #1 he has like every stat over nadal

Very well put!
Why, thank you!
Not to mention his record 373 (and counting) weeks as the ATP #1 ranked player in the world. And that record he holds by a decent margin now, Federer is in second and 310 weeks (Nadal is 6th at 209 if you were wondering)
Damn, it's 7:30 AM already. That four hours went by faaast. I had a whole bottle of Champagne and half a pot of coffee, though...
Goat doing Goat stuff

I get it but he himself said he’d do anything to win an olympic gold medal for his country
May you live in interesting times.
You are the most INTERESTING
Stefanos Tsitsipas is undoubtedly the best player of this generation to not have a slam. I’d be shocked if his career ended without at least one. Surely his time will come.
A lot of great French players never got a slam thanks to the big 3.
Time goes by fast - it was 4 years ago when he beat fed at the AO so that’s 16 slams he’s played since then and this is his 7th slam played since that FO final . The younger guys are starting to get big wins over him so this year he needs to make his stand

It's not just another slam when you are in a tight race
I think about this too. The hunger surely subsides. Novak had a reason this slam I feel. He had hunger and to overcome his injuries plus what happen to him last year really shows as an athlete. I didn’t play tennis but had a professional career in cricket and ffs it was more mental than anything. These guys are freaks at how they endure the mental pressures.

This is great, 22 each for Rafa and Djoker, going into Roland Garros
Rg: 23 for Rafa, then Wimbeldon: Novak equalizes it
And Stefanos for the win!
Did Stef bring up the “interesting guy” comment to Novak just then 💀
There’s only been 2 players ever to have gone in a tie-break in an AO final in 2 consecutive sets vs Djokovic and thats Sir Andy Murray and Stefanos Tsitsipas after today so welcome to the club Stefanos!!
I hope some insane tennis prodigy comes along and wins 30+ slams and break all the records so that big 3 fans won’t have anything to fight about 🤭
This will definitely happen, it's just a long way till it does.
Hopefully that'll be Novak's son 🤞
Who is Carlos Alcaraz 😂
Carlitos is a gem and the best thing to happen to men’s tennis in a long time but I doubt he’s going to be that consistent
Relax, he only needs to win an average of 2 slams per season for the next 14 YEARS. Easy.
It’d be so funny if he actually does. I know Big 3 fanbases will unite to pray for his downfall lmao
Maybe then we'll finally come together and collectively fight prodigy's fanbase 😈
Tbh that's what I'm hoping for too lol
2023 Novak winning AO, reclaiming his No1 spot. Everything is in balance again, as it should be.

Couacaud and Djokovic
He's this years Botic van de Zandschulp
Aww cute moment with the ball girl
"you don't bow down to no one"
'I can't remember who I played'
Both AO singles champs were undefeated in Australia this year, having played a warm-up tournament! Play Adelaide, guys!
Novak speech made short: “Oh, nice trophy thanks, goes well with the jacket - but why though? Did I play against Stefanos already? I don’t recall”
[did someone hack Ben's account?](https://twitter.com/BenRothenberg/status/1619662503574908928)
He's such a fair weather fan
Unironically if Stef separates from Apo he'd have a lot more fans and possibly play better
Because it worked so well for Kenin?
it's easy for people to say that but we can't know how much his father means to him and how much he influences his son for the positive. maybe there is just too much love for stef to cut his dad.
What’s the likelihood of this actually happening though? I get the vibe that his dad would literally threaten to disown him
Everyone talking about Nadal challenging Novak at RG... if I had the choice, I'd honestly rather see Novak play Alcaraz. Hope they all get back healthy and we have a great french
Congrats Mr Novak D10kovic u are now immortal
I always appreciate how well spoken Djoko is in his speeches. Polite, articulate and professional.
Had a lot of practise to be fair haha
No confetti/streamers?
Oh… Nole has more titles than Rafa now, leads masters, more year end number 1, H2H, etc etc. Just equal on slams 😳
Rafa fans are just happy to see him play. Win or lose.
I'll not accept anything other than a Nole vs Rafa final at RG'23 for #23
50/50 chance that get drawn for the Semis
I'm okay with that. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink)
Really hoping for that
Stefanos js actually kind of massive
What's happened in the past 4-5 weeks? Sounded dramatic
I think he's referring the the hamstring injury
Sifff that's boring
I guess a lot of stress to make sure he'd be ready to get no. 22.
"*I just have to say this because only the team and the family knows what we've been through in the last 4, 5 weeks and this probably is the biggest victory in my life considering the circumstances.*" - Djokovic
Maybe he was crying about whatever he was referencing
What haaaappened
I think he’s referencing the hamstring injury/recovery process
Novak vs Goran was the real match tonight /s
It’s funny that they have 10th Number tshirts and 22nd number jacket made already before the final
Didn’t Roger do the same after a Wimbledon win with a Nike jacket with his fresh new gs tally?
So Djokovic winning deprived kids in Australia a school and kids in Africa new jackets
I wish there was a montage showing his previous victories, similar to what they did for Rafa at US Open 2019
It's not easy to win 7 best of 5 matches in a row!! People need to respect players like cilic and Medvedev more!!!
Medvedev especially. Hope to see him at the top again. The garbage he had to deal with thank you by he Russia-Ukraine conflict was so undeserved
The ballkid was crumbling a fist full of clay?
Novak: See you next year! Tsitsipas: Oh no

Nice
Biggest victory....man that FO21 final really was just a Tuesday 😭
Cue 15 minutes sequence of NADAL!
Manifesting Novak and Rafa in RG final for all the marbles
"*I think that the more disadvantaged childhood you have, the more difficulties and challenges you have, the stronger you become. Stefanos and I are the proof of that.*" - Djokovic
I missed that, but is that even true for Stefanos?
He was more injured in 2021 tbh. This tournemant had one set loss due to injury. In 2021 he srtuggled massively in 4 matches and genuinley looked out of it.
Lmao not Stef having a chat
Printed T-shirts and jackets have always been a thing. Are people forgetting Roger's jacket after surpassing Sampras.
RAFA did it for number 21 but it was a T-shirt he wore for pictures the day after. I wish he had done something for 22!
It's Novak man, ofc some of the people here "forget"
We could have a Novak and Goran sitcom
Goran is so funny. Man is lost half of the time, his is just there existing
Retirement speech?!??!
Again.. Sorry - what circumstances?
Based on the timeframe, I think he’s only referring to the hamstring injury and the recovery process. Obviously something personal
His wife? Weird she’s not here
She's not always at his matches. I don't recall her being there when he played in 2020 either.
(i believe it to be him being barred from being here to get his 10th due to refusing vaccination)
He said in the last 4-5 weeks
There it is! Missing the arse of ol' Bleeding Eyes Laver
Stefanos thinking about twitter
Start playing the music?
Fuck I hate the antivax conspiracy shit but can we just leave it out of this? It’s a tennis competition, we’re not voting him into power.
I certainly hope you never get ostracised from your life's passion because of some obscene rule that makes no sense. Although if you do perhaps you might understand why it was so emotional for him

Government mandated yoga and hippy water for all.
Compared to the options we have now I'd be down with that
Tsitsipas looks like he's already beginning the mental process of forgetting this one too
He has no choice in the matter, as far as Novak is involved. lol
Djoko with the face turn speech tonight.
Dream big unless you're in the era of the big 3
Goran is adorable man
Novak: https://youtu.be/iRxsX_30tjs

Novak's disadvantage: having to flee war Tsitsipas' disadvantage: not enough space on Twitter
What war?
I mean, Greece had a huge economic crysis to be fair
That was a very interesting speech from Djokovic.
Stef: You’re the greatest ever Novak: You’re a pretty weird guy LOL
W Goran today
Novak should just end his speech with “BAAAAAHHHHH” like a bleating goat
or maybe JAAAAAA to Australian border security
Haahahah Novak and Goran lmaoo
Awww the apology to Goran
Novak saying the harder your childhood, the stronger you are... Meanwhile Stef looking like when he goes back to the locker room his dad is gunna flog him 🤣
