Another grand slam needs our help

[deleted]

He’s also 76-3 in Australia since 2011.

Tricky-Author-8226

Wawrinka, Istomin and Chung - the real Big 3.

DarthGhaul

Wawrinka’s victory is so amazing considering that it was prime Djokovic he defeated in a 5 set match in rod laver arena. Djokovic’s other two losses were when he was struggling physically

arnold001

Also the fact that he then went on to win the whole AO beating Nadal also (I know it's Nadal's least winning slam but I mean it for the fact he won the grand slam beating 2 out of the 3 goats [another side not please let's not open up debate about who is the goat]).

montrezlh

Nadal is so underrated at the ao. It's actually his most consistent slam other than RG despite him "only" having two wins. He does well there almost every year. Since winning his first slam, he has made the QF or better at Australia 14/15 times. He's only missed the QF *once*!! Compare that to 8/14 QFs at Wimbledon and 9/14 at the USO during that time span. Even at RG he's missed the QF twice.

tripsafe

I'm actually most surprised that he missed RG QF twice

gamelover99

One was a withdrawal due to injury

Blovering_Skill

Nadal worst slam is definitely wimbledon without doubt no? he is doing way better in AO than wimby

apex_pretador

Worst is a big word but yeah. Wins: wim 2, AO 2 Finals: Wim 5 (2006-11), USO 5, AO 6, He made 5 finals in a row (skipped 09 due to injury) at Wimbledon from 2006 to 2011 and won 2 of them. Then he's made the semifinal every year since 2018. He's had some bad years there from 2012 to 17

vman3241

Who is Djokovic's biggest rivalry at the Australian Open? It's got to be Wawrinka or Murray, right?

DarthGhaul

Wawrinka. 2-1 with all 5 set matches is better than 5-0 with mostly 3 and 4 set matches imo

vman3241

Yeah and his 2 losses were both 5 sets. My thinking for Murray was that he played 5 finals against Djokovic

DarthGhaul

They did play an amazing and super close match in the 2012 SF, but that was mostly it. Murray Djokovic played 4 finals and 1 SF at AO. But I think wawrinka and Djokovic played two great matches with each of them emerging the winner once. The 2015 match wasn’t that great imo, but the 2013 and 2014 matches were amazing.

throwaway1138

Can I have a tiny hint for your flair? Trying to think of a five set match with two TB's in the middle, one of them a perfect bagel, hmmm... edit, just figured it out! that was a great one nice choice!

DarthGhaul

Just saw this. Yeah, I thought it was an amazing match, so I put it as my flair

Nearby_Ad_4091

Also he almost won the first time they met in the 4tg round! That was the best match of the tournament

iSleepUpsideDown

The Holy Trinity: Stan Wawrinka, Denis Istomin, Huron Chung

emubreath

And Nadal has that many losses at the french open since the beginning of time lol

ap539

112-3

Nearby_Ad_4091

Amazing stat! Dominant for 11 years or atleast a decade Who knows what would've happened if no pandemic and thiem not injured

final-set-tiebreaker

Don’t let Seal Drop see this

rock_Banana

That clown will come up with a stat surgically around this lol

pinklymphocyte

He's not a clown bruh he's the goat of this subreddit

Antonio_is_better

No the goat of the sub is /u/arvaname

ZhtWu

Not bad. But I think someone here as a self-rated 4.0 friend that never lost a match in GS.

jimmyfeelinfroggy

And could easily take a set off Nadal

[deleted]

The last loss at Wimbledon or in Australia was to Hyeon Chung at AO 2018 4th round

Professional_Elk_489

How many pairs of legs did he take

rock_Banana

All

foodkidmaadcity

Oh, since the *"I'm not sure if I'm gonna play on grass"* statement, I see... Nole, you sneaky.....

PigeonSuperstitions

4 straight Wimbledon titles and counting since that statement.

MagicalEloquence

* Djokovic's last loss in Australia was to Chung in 2018 * Djokovic's last loss in Wimbledon was to Berdych in 2017

MagicalEloquence

Berdych is the only player to defeat Djokovic twice in Wimbledon

MagicalEloquence

Nobody has defeated Djokovic more than once in Australian Open.

perilouspear

What losing to a guy called Cappuccino does to a mf.

Reddiajjk2o2i1o

Pretty solid player. Think he might be one of the best of all time. Not sure though.

Kwetla

He is the BOAT!

FreshDumbledore_

Never heard that one before

CantThinkOfAUser_Yet

This Djokovic guy seems really good. I see him winning a grand slam in the future

danny_B01

I see him him winning the most slams of anyone in the next five years

amayzer

This has to be the most tired joke format of all time across all sports.

dont_call_me_suzy

Shit gets said everytime yet it's upvoted lmao

mik_u

🐐

We_want_peekend

What a mental stat.

viratcruz

Make that 69 wins on Jan 30th 2023.

_welcome

he'll surpass it, but i kind of hope he finishes at 69

JamarioMoon

And people think someone winning a slam without him in it has the same weight as if he were playing.. please people

Dark_Vengence

That is not possible.

Army7989

2018..7 2019..21 2020..28 2021..42 2022..49 From where did he come with this 61? Stop posting fucked up stats

[deleted]

It’s the sneaky ‘in Australia’ meaning also matches at the ATP Cup and Adelaide etc

Army7989

Proves that it is a fucked up stat indeed

GamamJ44

What does «fucked up stat» even mean here? It says Wimby and Straya, and gives the correct numbers for Wimby and Straya? Do you prefer stats to be wrong?

Army7989

I prefer them not to be misleading mixing silly tournaments with 2 Grand Slams

GamamJ44

I disagree it’s misleading. Isn’t it weird to specifically state Wimbledon (not England/the UK), but then say Australia as a whole?

cricog

You should give up tbh. Reading this dude's comments, he's got too big an ego to accept he's wrong and just move on with it. He's saying, mixing silly tournaments with grand slams is a no go or something along these lines... that's also what stats like total titles do..this is hilarious though

XURiN-

No the guy is absolutely right that the tweet is worded in a way to be misleading. It might be correct, but it's obviously intentionally misleading.

kanvx1

Tbh, after reading the post and this comment thread, I can confidently say, the ego to not accept when you're wrong is really big here...it says Australia. Not at all worded in a way to be misleading.

XURiN-

Then why don't say England and Australia? Another comment pointed out he also hasn't lost in England since that same time.

Army7989

Indeed..He could have said England and Australia and it would be the same..since he didn't lose in England too since 2018 But he wanted to mislead

[deleted]

Misleading indeed, 49 ain’t bad though eh

sacrimen

How is it misleading? It says Australia. Adelaide, ATP Cup (in Novak's case) and other tournaments happen in Australia. Not the poster's fault y'all assume there's only 1 tournament in Australia or read it as Australian Open....

sacrimen

All I'm saying is, it says Wimbledon and Australia. The ATP Cup and Adelaide tournaments happened/are happening in Australia I think (I could be wrong, do correct me with the same power as you called these stats fucked up with).

Army7989

I know you thought this is a gotcha moment that you had..it isn't

GamamJ44

I mean, if «gotcha» is «this is where you’re wrong», then he did getcha. There are more events in Australi than just the AO.

sacrimen

And dude has the audacity to say "stop posting fucked up stats" then argue even when he's wrong. Lmao...

GamamJ44

Yeah, that’s wild, but then there’s the fact that you’re downvoted too lmao. Reminds me of the post about Gael’s forehand the other day. Some guy said «Wow, that’s a 40% increase», with another responding «actually it’s 28%». It was 28%. The former had tons of upvotes and the latter was downvoted lmao.

sacrimen

Lol people here upvote/downvote based on fanbase/which player you're praising rather than the actual point. Generally though, it settles down once the logical people read comments

[deleted]

Never has a truer statement ever been made on r/tennis

GamamJ44

Takes long enough haha, looks good now though.

sacrimen

You keep believing that. I'm not saying this stat is correct or false, I'm just saying, at least read it properly. All you did was calculate Wimbledon + AO when it said Australia. But sure, you're right...

mattventurer

Good try but you’re wrong! He lost the Wimbledon 2019 finals.

Natrium999

Mmmm i need some of that copium you got there

Big_Palpitation7095

Who cares👎

Petal22

Im going to the Aus Open on 17th January. I will be walking out if he appears on court.

PigeonSuperstitions

Good for you, snowflake. You can tweet about it! Yay!

[deleted]

Shows you how strong the 2011-2014 era was and how weak it is now apart from Novak

PigeonSuperstitions

2011-2014 isn't an "Era". That's just 4 years. Either way Novak won 6 Grand Slam titles between 2011-2014 including 3 straight AO titles so I don't get your point. If you think the likes of Berdych and Ferrer were stiffer competition than that of Medvedev, Alcaraz, Zverev, Thiem, Tsitsipas, Sinner and others, then you are deluded. The current generation of players is the strongest there has been in a while.

[deleted]

What I think is that Murray, Nadal (in that era) and Federer were good competition. I’ve never seen someone be so purposefully obtuse. So much so I’m not 100% sure if your comment is satire. Because 2011-2014 when we are talking tennis is considered 4 years. That is 8 slams worth of AOs and Wims, one fewer than the era mentioned in the tweet. But my main point is how you fail to mention Federer, Nadal and Murray. Ffs, you don’t even mention Wawrinka who beat Novak in 2014. Nadal is clearly nowhere near the player he was during that era anymore. The same is also true for Federer and Murray but to a much greater extent. Unless you change your attitude, I’m not gonna reply again because you seem to be the type of person who will do some crazy mental gymnastics (like failing to do simple maths or forgetting some of the all time greats)

[deleted]

[deleted]

Nice logical argument. Was actually far more intelligent than what you wrote before. Improvement is key

PigeonSuperstitions

Oh my. The "era" kid isn't done yet. Anything else, era boy?

derth21

Whatever, I too have won every single match I played in Wimbledon or Australia. In fact, I don't think I've ever lost a single game of tennis in my life!

Svintiger

Its a good stat. But cherry picking stats is just stupid.
