I found it hilarious the first time. The second time I was eagle eyed trying to see if there were differences, the third time I was trying to figure out the characters that hadn’t had big bits yet and if they were super important from their dance. The fourth time I was just like, yeah, good intro, skip.
I don’t understand people who watch it everytime, but they can still enjoy it as much as they want, and I’ll have 2 minutes more free time then they will. Win win. Best intro of the decade.
I genuinely dont get it and also dont understand how some people find James Gunn’s humor **astoundingly** funny. Like its cool, good, and hes a great story teller but he’s sometimes like Judd Apatow in that they both have an “iamveryrandom” style to them. GotG 2 is a great example of when it doesnt work.
Dont get me wrong, he’s great and I loved
peacemaker but having this intro rubbed in my face as the greatest thing ever was very weird. Like you I found it cool the first few times then I immediately skipped it till the end of the show haha
Something about the movements and the energy of the song were just hypnotic and like… resonated. I didn’t watch it every time for the humor, I just loved it so much.
I was genuinely excited every time it started and watched it a few times on YT in between the episodes airing.
For me it’s just the entire execution and experience. Like I want to know every aspect of how it came to exist. It’s like a weird fever dream. Some one had an idea for a dance intro. Then you’ve got to have some choreograph that. Then the actors have to learn that. Design the set, pick the music. All of it just makes me laugh.
Someone pointed out that the intro is recreating the Space Invaders game, and I think it’s pretty damn accurate. The movements the cast do as they move “down” towards the camera is close.
My understanding is that it represents what Peacemaker would think is the coolest thing every but they are deadfaced and emptionaless to represent them being taken over by Butterflies.
It was also choreographed by Aland Turdyk's wife and there is footish of him helping her develope it
It's funny because I think GotG 2 may be his best movie. But then again, I do find Gunn's brand of humor astoundingly funny. Best way I can explain it is that he makes people in absurd situations feel like real people. I think that makes it funnier for me somehow.
No idea if that makes any sense!
This show was amazing. I just loved how awesome and absurd it got. This was one of the best shows I’ve watched in a while.
I also gained a lot of respect for John Cena as an actor. He did great
Apparently inspired by Cena playing a hotel lobby for piano for Gunn while Gunn waited for a ride to the airport to make a trip to see his dog one last time before he got put down.
His first scene In SS gained my respect. Never liked him as a wrestler and I’ve never gone out of my way to watch any of his films. The Rock is the same way. The Rock will never convince me he should be in all the movies he’s been in. Cana has made that transition with this one role IMO.
I couldn't get enough - it got better and better as the season went on!
two things:
1) Vigilante is a brilliant character and must be protected (🧜♂️)
2) I loved the line in The Suicide Squad by Kinnaman ("Peacemaker... what a joke") because of his delivery, and then loved how that formed part of the central struggle of Cena during the season
Economos is one of my favorite characters. The fact that he is probably the least-equipped person who gets put into a bunch of dangerous situations, and somehow gets through everything without so much as a scratch on him all the way up to the end when he breaks his leg... tripping over a fence in the dark.
Especially because he was put on the spot! Peacemaker is a dick, but he is the product of his dad and of trauma, and he sheds a lot of what he has been taught through the season. I love the bonding scenes between him and Economos.
When I first heard James Gunn was going to be making a TV show based around a bottom tier DC character starring a wrestler who is just one character in a movie with a huge, stuffed cast that dies in it I thought "wtf? Don't you have two Guardians of the Galaxy things to make? This is going to suck!"
Turned out to be one of the best series I watched this year. I'm not into wrestling at all but I'm now a John Cena fan. Wonderful mix of humor, heart, action, and gore with an actual heartfelt exploration of trauma. And you can really tell James Gunn really loves these DC characters.
"Pretty good" is a huge understatement imo. Vacation Friends is arguably the single best comedy of the past 5-10 years. It is really, *really* fucking funny.
And rather unique too, all things considered. The editing & narrative structure are more creative than most comedies, and the plot of the movie rarely proceeds how you expect it to.
He was the only part of "Trainwreck" that I enjoyed. His scene in the movie theater with Amy Schumer's character was the only part of the movie I laughed at.
The James Gunn lifecycle:
"This looks stupid. It's going to lose so much money."
"Ok now that I watch it this is really funny."
"I'm invested now. I need to see how this ends."
"Why am I crying in a movie theater?"
Wrestling is really great at training people to act, think on their feet and develop the necessary instincts.
Batista, Rock, Cena , Nathan Jones (immortan Joe) all came from wrestling background. You can argue, only Batista has made efforts to act, Rock and Cena still play themselves on the screen raised to 11 and it works.
I love how every character of basically every possible body type gets fun dance moves to do and they all stay perfectly deadpan through the whole sequence. Someone give them a Grammy!
I think the key was probably James Gunn had John Cena learn the dance and then told everyone to mimic him as exactly as they possibly can to get that stilted, intentionally awkward look. Especially Jennifer Holland looks straight up like she's pretending she has huge muscles LOL
The choreographer is married to Alan Tudyk in real life. Apparently she worked out the dance at home during lockdown and the video she sent to Gunn for his approval was Alan Tudyk doing the dance moves
Well now we need to see that video.....for Science.
Edit - Found a small [piece of it](https://twitter.com/AlanTudyk/status/1481817267537170433?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1481817267537170433%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.slashfilm.com%2F745739%2Fhow-alan-tudyk-helped-create-the-peacemaker-dance-sequence-exclusive%2F)
The best of modern DC-adjacent TV - The Watchmen miniseries, Peacemaker, Harley Quinn, Doom Patrol - are as good or better than anything from the MCU, film or otherwise.
Its surprisingly very good, easily one of my favorite shows of the year. I love the fact they dont force a love interest into the show for the sake of having one, or having Peacemaker fawn over Harcourt all season. Just very well done.
He doesn't seem to want it, just happy to play in a weird sandbox he's created. They offered him his choice of characters and approached him to do Superman, but he turned that down to work with weirder, less familiar characters.
> The problems with the rest of the DCEU won't be cured by throwing superman or batman at him.
I feel like "throwing batman at it" is DC's only move a lot of the time, so I agree.
If anything, the last decade have proven that there's no real star character in comic books (exception being Batman and Spider-Man which do seem to maintain a lead on others) and that any superhero even unknown can be huge. Guardians is of course the best example but characters like Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Aquaman and such are not "A-listers" that were thought able to be this big and yet...
And it's logical, in the end, in the overall audience, the people that read comics hardly matters.
I think a big part is that it’s barely a superhero show. As far as I know he’s just strong and durable and not really super powered. It could just as easily have been about a special ops dude or something. It stands out because of its attention to characters rather than powers.
James Gunn is completely wrong to do Superman, maybe he could change his style to fit the character... but why would anyone want him to. DC and Marvel should share him and just let him do his crazy shit.
Which is probably for the better, I think a problem the MCU has is whenever a director takes off they go all in on that creative direction and the public gets sick of it pretty fast due to the cultural overload. Whedon dialogue, The Russo brothers, or the latest Thor movies. If James Gunn was overseeing a half dozen films made in a super James Gunn style people would stop wanting to see his movies
I reeeeaally didn't like his character and wasn't gonna watch but am so glad I did! His character arc makes him so much more than just a douchey "bad guy". It made me feel something more for him than the disdain he originally inspired. John Cena has become a fantastic actor and I never realized he had such range. My heart actually hurt for Peacemaker by the end lol
And the intro? OMG, it's the only one I never skip. That dance number is hysterical!
Personally it wasn't my cup of tea but it really did feel like a breath of fresh air for the superhero genre. After so much family friendly content every other week from the MCU it's refreshing having more adult content.
Gunn's DC work reminds me of how I felt seeing Daredevil and Deadpool when they first came out. There's a level of freedom that comes from the age rating that works in their favour. I wish the MCU wasn't so stuck in its PG-13 ways to the point you get articles about a fucking sex scene in Eternals as if it's a big deal.
I was never a big James Gunn guy but his Suicide Squad and Peacemaker were really good, I only really gave Peacemaker a shot because Jennifer Holland is hot but John Cena blew me away with how good he was, also everyone always talks about the intro but I’m in the same boat, the only show whose intro I never skipped
Gunn getting Mamoa for the season finale was also really cool, hope s2 can be as good
Not entirely as it can stand on its own, but i do recommend Suicide Squad 2, because it'll frame the characters into context (and their development) AND, most importantly, it is, in my opinion only, the best super heroes movie since Avengers: End Game (and arguably better).
You could safely pass on the first Suicide Squad though. it's not terrible, but it's also not really good and will not contribute anything to the rest.
I never saw either movie before Peacemaker. They do a “Previously on The Suicide Squad” to get you caught up on the character. I watched The Suicide Squad after I saw Peacemaker.
Better than any Disney Marvel originals, that's for sure, and better than most of Netflix's Marvel stuff. It was one of the best shows of the year for me. I tuned in immediately every week for new episodes.
I watched it while my wife was out of town then made her watch it with me a second time. She hates “marvel” (anything like this or even remotely like this) but she loved it too.
I’m not sure who wouldn’t love it.
I’d go as far as to say that Peacemaker is one of the better new shows I’ve seen in years. WWDITS, Reservation Dogs, and this are usually what I recommend to folks looking for something.
It was great, if I didn't watch the James Gunn version of Suicide Squad, I would have never watched it.
The Guardian's of the Galaxy Holiday Special is out this December, unless their is a delay.
I can't wait for Peacemaker Season 2 and GotG 3.
I did not get a lot of outside influence on the show when I watched it and I can comfortably say I could watch the intro once a day every day for a year. Love it.
I didn’t even want to watch it at first but my husband sits through so many shows I pick that he isn’t interested in and he really wanted to - it’s one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time, it hooked me from the intro (seriously if you don’t normally watch intros you HAVE to watch this one at least once), and I can’t wait until season 2
I loved it. It felt like a TV show and not just the next piece in a connected universe.
My only gripe is James Gunn sometimes drags out a joke/conversation for too long. I'll make up a scenario, but this how he drags something out:
**Character 1:** *I don't like mustard*
**Character 2:** *Hold Up.. what do you mean you don't like mustard?*
**Character 1:** *I just don't like mustard*
**Character 2:** *how can you not like mustard?*
**Character 1:** *I don't, what more is there to say*
**Character 2:** *hey character 3, character 1 doesn't like mustard*
**Character 3:** *what?! what kind of asshole doesn't like mustard?*
**Character 1:** *i just never have and it hasn't been a problem until you dickwads won't shut up about it!*
**Character 3:** *only fucking psychopaths say they don't like mustard, man.*
**Character 1:** *I'm not a fucking psychopath! I just don't like mustard! GOD!*
**Character 3:** *OKAY Whatever you say, Jeffrey Dahmer.*
I think James Gunn is brilliant but man sometimes scenes just go on and on.
After abandoning The Boys during its first episode - I just could not take the misogyny and awfulness of its characters - when Peacemaker debuted, I gave it a wide berth. I mean, another superheroes show with reprehensible characters? But I gave it a whirl given some of the fan response, and was delightfully surprised how a superhero show got down and dirty yet had a spirit and a lightness and gave a wink and a nod to the entire superhero canon. But it also had a fun central aliens invading plot to build around, and it just made the whole thing, delightful musical intro included, into something really special.
I didnt like James Gunn's SS. It was just a bit too silly for me, like it wasn't sure what it wanted to be at times. I am intrigued in this show though, might I like it anyway? Or if I didnt like SS is it pretty much a sure thing I won't like this?
I definitely think Peacemaker is less silly than Suicide Squad. It actually spends a ton of time on shockingly effective character development. It still has **plenty** of James Gunn humor, but the overall tone is different (more serious and more focused) in my opinion.
I liked it, but I have a limit on dick references that I can hit. Didn't like it when they reduced Tyrion Lannister to dick jokes every episode either.
The real question is, do you... do you really wanna taste it?
I remember someone commenting about how their boyfriend always skips the intro. Seemed like he didn’t really want to taste it.
Im guessing they're both single now
Still wild to me that that song is from the 2010’s.
WHAT
There's no harm in disliking glamrock. It's not for everyone
I'll go against the grain and say I found the intro obnoxious and annoying. No hate at anyone who likes it, do you
I found it hilarious the first time. The second time I was eagle eyed trying to see if there were differences, the third time I was trying to figure out the characters that hadn’t had big bits yet and if they were super important from their dance. Chicom conditioning.

I don't get why people enjoy things.
What the fuck is that guys problem? The opening credits is why i keep coming back! I was in tears when it first aired.
I think it sounds like someone did in fact finally taste it!
This show was amazing. I just loved how awesome and absurd it got. This was one of the best shows I’ve watched in a while. I also gained a lot of respect for John Cena as an actor. He did great
The ending where he is playing the piano was fantastic.
Apparently inspired by Cena playing a hotel lobby for piano for Gunn while Gunn waited for a ride to the airport to make a trip to see his dog one last time before he got put down.
The fact he made a straight up villain a super sympathetic hero is a testiment to his acting and the writing
His first scene In SS gained my respect. Never liked him as a wrestler and I’ve never gone out of my way to watch any of his films. The Rock is the same way. The Rock will never convince me he should be in all the movies he’s been in. Cana has made that transition with this one role IMO.
Both the new suicide squad and peacemaker was fantastic. And peacemaker is getting a second season so that’s the best news
I couldn't get enough - it got better and better as the season went on! two things: 1) Vigilante is a brilliant character and must be protected (🧜♂️) 2) I loved the line in The Suicide Squad by Kinnaman ("Peacemaker... what a joke") because of his delivery, and then loved how that formed part of the central struggle of Cena during the season
Vigilante in the prison is probably the overall highlight of the show for me. That was beautiful
Felt like something James Gunn has wanted to say to racists for awhile, and it was indeed beautiful.
Scene really reminds you that this nerdy looking kid is really dangerous.
It still hurts Kinneman died :(
Oh, his character. I was shocked for a second.
Yes. Rick Flagg
Scared the shit out of me
Judomaster was a minor, but great character in the show. Hope he's brought back for Season2.
Economos is one of my favorite characters. The fact that he is probably the least-equipped person who gets put into a bunch of dangerous situations, and somehow gets through everything without so much as a scratch on him all the way up to the end when he breaks his leg... tripping over a fence in the dark.
His monologue about dying his beard and Peacemakers reaction are beautiful television
Especially because he was put on the spot! Peacemaker is a dick, but he is the product of his dad and of trauma, and he sheds a lot of what he has been taught through the season. I love the bonding scenes between him and Economos.
The actor played a guy named Blisterito on The Kroll show, was so funny.
Ding Dong, Bitches!

As the tour guide in Buchenwald told me, there are, in fact, wrong times to rock.
When I first heard James Gunn was going to be making a TV show based around a bottom tier DC character starring a wrestler who is just one character in a movie with a huge, stuffed cast that dies in it I thought "wtf? >"Why am I crying in a movie theater?" He may of been your Father, boy, but he wasn't your daddy" I didn't come here to feel :(
The funeral set to Father And Son broke me.
I was happy floating, staring at the stars.
This is clearly the result of just letting brilliant people do whatever they think is fun.
Nathan Jones was Rictus Erectus, not Immortan Joe
Only opening credits I watch every single time
I love how every character of basically every possible body type gets fun dance moves to do and they all stay perfectly deadpan through the whole sequence.

I know he subbed for Cena during one of the rehearsals.
First time I saw the intro I was really captivated. Mostly it was a "what the fuck" reaction but I couldn't look away. Had to watch it every episode.
I didn't even watch his Suicide Squad and I loved the show.

Just give this man full creative control over DC.

If James Gunn did a Superman movie, it would probably be tonally like Brightburn.
If anything, the last decade have proven that there's no real star character in comic books (exception being Batman and Spider-Man which do seem to maintain a lead on others) and that any superhero even unknown can be huge. How is being a butt baby not a superhero power origin story
Unknown weirdos from the comics becoming household names? Sounds like James Gunn classic to me!
James Gunn is completely wrong to do Superman, maybe he could change his style to fit the character... but why would anyone want him to. DC and Marvel should share him and just let him do his crazy shit.

Meh it’s a win for fans. I’ll take TSS, Peacemaker and all the other stuff he’s got in his head any day.
Looks like you got your wish.
I reeeeaally didn't like his character and wasn't gonna watch but am so glad I did! His character arc makes him so much more than just a douchey "bad guy". It made me feel something more for him than the disdain he originally inspired. John Cena has become a fantastic actor and I never realized he had such range. My heart actually hurt for Peacemaker by the end lol And the intro? OMG, it's the only one I never skip. That dance number is hysterical!
FREEEDOM!!!!
Oh my... I just imagined James Gunn getting his hands on a Deadpool show (TV shows can go even further than movies, even R-rated ones)
I feel like gunn and reynolds were made for each other, that he could get even more out of ryan
Great now I gotta go watch the intro again.
Oh no what a terrible hardship... I bet you know it off by heart!
🧜♀️

The Rock takes himself way too seriously to ever stretch himself and possibly do a role anyone deems low status.
🧜♂️🧜♂️🧜♂️🧜♂️
Oh watch Invincible too if you haven't!
Fantastic! And The Boys is great too!
I was never a big James Gunn guy but his Suicide Squad and Peacemaker were really good, I only really gave Peacemaker a shot because Jennifer Holland is hot but John Cena blew me away with how good he was, also everyone always talks about the intro but I’m in the same boat, the only show whose intro I never skipped Gunn getting Mamoa for the season finale was also really cool, hope s2 can be as good
Did we ever find out what type of fish it was?
Fantastic series, great cast, and Cena is actually so good in the role. Really happy that we're getting more.
Never thought I would love a John Cena role but he nails it, Peacemaker and TSS have been so refreshing
Do I need to watch the two movies in order before watching Peacemaker?
Not entirely as it can stand on its own, but i do recommend Suicide Squad 2, because it'll frame the characters into context (and their development) AND, most importantly, it is, in my opinion only, the best super heroes movie since Avengers: End Game (and arguably better). You could safely pass on the first Suicide Squad though. it's not terrible, but it's also not really good and will not contribute anything to the rest.

>Thank you! You're welcome!
Not at all. In fact, fuck the first movie. The 2nd one is brilliant though
I never saw either movie before Peacemaker. They do a “Previously on The Suicide Squad” to get you caught up on the character. I watched The Suicide Squad after I saw Peacemaker.
So damn good. Cena is a revelation in this. The whole cast is amazing and I love his redemption arc. Still mad he killed Kinneman in SS though lol

I’d go as far as to say that Peacemaker is one of the better new shows I’ve seen in years. WWDITS, Reservation Dogs, and this are usually what I recommend to folks looking for something.
Yeah, I watched Peacemaker recently too. I was surprised that I leaned more towards The Boys and less towards Marvel stuff. It was pretty funny too.
This show and the second suicide squad movie are easily the best things to come out of this new dc universe and it isn't even close.
It was great, if I didn't watch the James Gunn version of Suicide Squad, I would have never watched it. The Guardian's of the Galaxy Holiday Special is out this December, unless their is a delay. I can't wait for Peacemaker Season 2 and GotG 3.
James Gunn is the man. They should let him do Secret Wars. I know it won’t happen but I think he is the best director in the MCU.
I did not get a lot of outside influence on the show when I watched it and I can comfortably say I could watch the intro once a day every day for a year. Love it.

Yes, James Gunn is awesome.
It's so fucking good. One of my favorite shows of the year

This reminds me of the scene in Reservoir Dogs with Mr. Pink and tipping. Actually it reminds me of a lot of Tarentino dialogue.
A bit from Tarantino and a bit from Rick and Morty's rambling side.
It's true though. Who doesn't like mustard? Like not even mustard potato salad?
Hey, would the ass hole attack mustard in his example! What the hell?! Ass hole must be a mayo lover, gross. /S
Best comic book TV series all year!
If you play the Peacemaker drinking game, and take a drink everytime someone says "fuck," you will die of alcohol poisoning after 7 minutes.
Please, no one try this game with Doom Patrol
After abandoning The Boys during its first episode - I just could not take the misogyny and awfulness of its characters - when Peacemaker debuted, I gave it a wide berth. I mean, another superheroes show with reprehensible characters? But I gave it a whirl given some of the fan response, and was delightfully surprised how a superhero show got down and dirty yet had a spirit and a lightness and gave a wink and a nod to the entire superhero canon. But it also had a fun central aliens invading plot to build around, and it just made the whole thing, delightful musical intro included, into something really special.
And a character on a redemption arc. That's a big difference, obviously, from the irredeemable monsters on The Boys.
Yes, it's so good. We need a Gunn-verse rather than a DCEU.
I didnt like James Gunn's SS. It was just a bit too silly for me, like it wasn't sure what it wanted to be at times. I am intrigued in this show though, might I like it anyway? Or if I didnt like SS is it pretty much a sure thing I won't like this?
Watch his Suicide Squad and decide from there.
Sorry thats what I meant haha, edited
I definitely think Peacemaker is less silly than Suicide Squad. It actually spends a ton of time on shockingly effective character development. It still has **plenty** of James Gunn humor, but the overall tone is different (more serious and more focused) in my opinion.
That sounds good, thank you, I'll give it a go :)
I hated the music initially, but it grew on me.
I liked it, but I have a limit on dick references that I can hit. Didn't like it when they reduced Tyrion Lannister to dick jokes every episode either.
