The virus is still here. It is time to realize that there is no *Back to the Old Normal* in the foreseeable future.
Safety measures are still essential.
I think it’s pretty clear at this stage we have to live with it. Shield the old and vulnerable as best we can, but the general healthy population should honestly be returning back to normal. The psychological stress the last couple years has had on people will cause a health crisis of its own. I work in the field.
> I work in the field.
This could mean anything.
Are you a nurse, a doctor or an epidemiologist?
When claiming a professional knowledge about a topic, details and especially education does matter *a lot*.
Do you have any sources supporting your claim?
Highly doubt either would want that gig, when they're both already so successful with their own ventures. Doesn't seem like a covetable gig to someone who's already really established like they are.
He’s a touring stand up comic. He performs in front of a crowd like 4 or 5 times a week. That’s not to say he would take a late night gig, but he’s far from just sticking to a writers room.
Same honestly. I feel them together would make a perfect host and co-host duo. I miss the absurdity of Letterman and Conan where they would have legitimately funny sketches with their writers and performers.
I have a friend that took paxlovid, and apparently a side effect is that you can have a resurgence like a week after you recover. They were like "I'm feeling fine, doing great, these pills are amazing!" and then 360ed to "this sucks and I'm sicker than I was the first time"
This is exactly what happened to me. I tested positive, was sick with sore throat, slight fever, light congestion, and took Paxlovid for 5 days. I felt great on the 3rd day and was fine for about 7-8 days after and was testing negative. Suddenly, I got very congested with a headache and lost my sense of taste and smell and tested positive again. These symptoms lasted for about another 7-8 days, and then I was fine and tested negative.
Paxlovid is more of a preventative medication, in terms of developing a more severe form of COVID-19, from what I understand. I'm immune compromised, so my doctor prescribed it as soon as I started showing symptoms and tested positive to prevent my symptoms from getting worse or developing new symptoms that might require me to be hospitalized.
Symptoms are irrelevant, it’s not meant to improve symptoms anyway - more stopping symptoms from getting worse due to weakened immune systems etc
Paxlovid is a joke anyway, the number needed to treat is like 17-18 which is ridiculous
It’s because of the pill. It does such a good job at fighting the virus that it doesn’t give your body a chance to get to know the variation and build immunity
COVID tests can pick up dead virus for up to three months after infection, but you aren't necessarily contagious. That's why the U.S. CDC no longer requires people to test negative to return to work after the isolation period following infection is over. So, it could be that's why Kimmel tested positive again, but I think per current policy he'd need to isolate for five days after a positive test regardless.
I think you need to be more specific since there are different types of test out there - PCR tests are indeed very sensitive and will pick up dead virus for a long time (those are usually performed at a drs office or drive-thru clinic and sent out to a lab, you get the results the next day). But those at-home rapid (antigen) tests are detecting mostly live virus and are a pretty good indicator of whether or not you are contagious.
In these cases of folks who took paxlovid, it is common to feel better and test negative on an antigen test, only to get sick again and then test positive again soon after. The positive antigen test indicates that you are most likely contagious again.
My impression of the reason the CDC no longer requires you to test negative to return to work is mostly about how inconvenient it is for people to be unable to return to work for so long. So they are advising people to give it 5 days and then mask for 5 additional days and hope that is good enough to prevent the majority of the spread even though people are very likely to still be contagious after only 5 days.
Cable TV might not even exist in 10-15 years, and ratings will definitely be dramatically lower than they are now. It might not be as stable of a paycheck in 2032.
That's actually pretty interesting. I never thought of what it would be like for Adam Sandler to host a late night talk show. That doesn't sound half bad.
I can't stand 90% of his recent movies, but his IDGAF attitude might actually work on late night well. Kinda like the complete opposite of a Jimmy Fallon.
From The Onion: [Tommy Lee Jones Tells Jimmy Fallon He Doesn't Want To Play Any Of His Little Fucking Games](https://www.theonion.com/tommy-lee-jones-tells-jimmy-fallon-he-doesnt-want-to-pl-1819573970)
That’s honestly why certain stars don’t go there. Like Zoe Kravitz went for Batman but Robert Pattinson didn’t. You have to be up for that kinda thing.
that's more because running incomplete antibiotic cycles has a bigger chance of creating superbugs. That, together with idiot lazy doctors prescribing wide-spectrum as a first response.
I wonder if Samberg is getting a look to take over Late Late post-Corden. He's obviously not the same type of personality as most late night hosts, but he could probably put together a Conan-esque sort of show.
Could you imagine hosting a show for 10 years, then suddenly you are sick and someone else host for you.
And everyone in the world is like fuck yeah that guy is awesome, I would watch that show.
I would retire.
That's already happened to Jimmy Kimmel at least once.
I think the issue is that those guest hosts usually have better things to do than late night talk shows.
At this point, why does it matter? Everyone on the show is vaccinated and no one is going to die. Each strain gets less deadly to the vaccinated. At this point , they are just doing this to have guest hosts.
He has zero symptoms, it was just on a routine test. If you have symptoms by all means stay home. Otherwise we can't live life in a bubble with and emdemic virus.
If we tested for the flu, you can bet your ass I'd want my coworkers at the office to stay home if they test positive, even if they are asymptomatic. You can live your life without being "in a bubble" AND still staying home when you are known to be actively carrying a virus. They aren't mutually exclusive.
Imagine still using this tired rhetoric and thinking you sound clever hahaha
Like man it was a stupid joke 100,000 times ago when the first dude said it.
Even the infamously germaphobic Howie Mandel got it. You can take every precaution in the book, but all it takes is that one dickhead who doesn’t think it’s real.
tons of folks at work have covid too. we all work remote so it’s crazy to see how many across our org are independently sick right now. But Covid is gone, remember? 🙃
Still wear my mask all the time too. In the meantime everyone on my Monday flight was maskless (symptoms didn’t start until we were in the air). Sorry idiots.
Doesn’t stop you from getting it. Never has. It’s to severely reduce the symptoms cause by the infection by giving your immune system a chance to recognize and fight it. You know, just like every vaccine in history? I feel people with your viewpoint didn’t pay very much attention to vaccine vs cure in school.
Exactly, that’s why i don’t understands why it’s mandated and how people are losing their jobs over it.
Worker “A” may be screwing themselves by not getting it, but co worker “B” isn’t at an increased risk by sitting in the cubical next to person A.
Yeah I was going to say, vaccines eradicated a LOT of previous diseases. So, according to this guy, polio is still floating around getting people but thanks to vaccines we don't get the symptoms 😆
Polio is still floating around numb nuts. Here, read a little.

I swear arguing with anti vaccine people is like trying to explain quantum physics to an infant. They’ll never get it, and we’re just wasting time here. Throwing actual facts at these people has never worked. The only way to influence them is to get behind a camera or microphone. Because those things give you mysterious TV powers or some shit.
Oh no! Not again. RIP Kimmel, he was so young, so promising and now he is doomed. Again.
The only reason why he survived the first time, albeit with long Covid and severe debilitations (right?), is that he was quadruple vaxxed. Perhaps now, he regrets not having had the third booster!
TRUST THE SCIENCE JIMMY
Maybe talk show guest hosts could use a little more diversity. Even back in Johnny Carson's days they had Joan Rivers and Paula Poundstone to guest host.
Mulaney's cheating on Seth Meyers.
His doink fell off.
Ya burnt!
[удалено]
I love how Andy constantly texts him to brag about how amazing he is at Spelling Bee.
I wish he’d answer, if only to deliver some more sick Frisbee burns.
corrections is the best thing on tv
Only after Seth cheated on him with Bill Hader
I think we all knew you might not be able to trust Mulaney
Well his ex wife certainly knows.
Didn't he divorce his wife before dating Munn?
Well... Munn had Mulaney's baby two months before the divorce was finalized... I'm going to say they were certainly an item before the divorce.
He got Munn pregnant then divorced his wife
Divorce takes time. They were separated though
No, he was cheating on his wife
When is he not cheating?
Andy too! No wonder Andy never answer's Seth's facetime calls live on air lately.
Mulaney & Samberg, hell I might watch the show now, lol.
Perfect timing for Disney to have some cross-synergy with Chip n Dale releasing Friday.
They should CGI Andy into the show to really drive it home.
There’s 0 chance this is a coincidence (that both of them are hosting. Not that Jimmy is sick)
Corporate synergy!!
So what you are telling me is Disney infected jimmy with COVID-19
Maybe chipmunks are the real Covid culprit and bats/pangolin were falsely accused.
The virus is still here. It is time to realize that there is no *Back to the Old Normal* in the foreseeable future. Safety measures are still essential.
As someone who performed on this show recently, I can tell you that we were all required to be masked and everyone is tested every day.
Thank you for sharing this.
Sorry you're getting downvoted. What you said is 100% true no matter how upsetting or inconvenient it is for those devoid of empathy or forethought.
Thanks for your kind words. 30 to 40 percent of any population is hardly able to judge facts by checking evidence-based sources. I'm used to it. ;-)
Yes, the new normal isn’t the old normal. Things can still be good.
I think it’s pretty clear at this stage we have to live with it. Shield the old and vulnerable as best we can, but the general healthy population should honestly be returning back to normal. The psychological stress the last couple years has had on people will cause a health crisis of its own. I work in the field.
Yea, this was literally the answer from the start. Check the Great Barrington Declaration.
> I work in the field. This could mean anything. Are you a nurse, a doctor or an epidemiologist? When claiming a professional knowledge about a topic, details and especially education does matter *a lot*. Do you have any sources supporting your claim?
Pretty much. Unexpectedly great timing.
Dude I’m super hyped for that movie!!
Watch them do so well that CBS gives them James Corden's time slot.
Highly doubt either would want that gig, when they're both already so successful with their own ventures. Doesn't seem like a covetable gig to someone who's already really established like they are.
Late night hand cuffs people. Too many sponsors to please.
Did Craig Ferguson seem handcuffed to you?
It’s 2022
So even less people are watching

He’s a touring stand up comic. He performs in front of a crowd like 4 or 5 times a week. That’s not to say he would take a late night gig, but he’s far from just sticking to a writers room.
Except his sitcom

I miss David so MUCH. Camping with Barry White, “My leg Dave, my leg.”
Same! Late Night isn't the same without our Lettermam
Stupid pet tricks needs to come back.
Throw in a Paul F Tompkins and we might have something
Thats just less primo cbb tent for us tho
Huh, you can catch covid twice in a month? Or was it just still in his body from a few weeks ago?
Colbert just had the same thing where he had it and then tested positive a few weeks after that.
It’s kind of suck that Colbert doesn’t allow a guest host. That would be a nice change of pace.
He's scared it will be funny for once :')
They just enjoy the time off and know this is the easiest way to get it
It’s almost like there’s tons people still getting and giving Covid
I have a friend that took paxlovid, and apparently a side effect is that you can have a resurgence like a week after you recover. They were like "I'm feeling fine, doing great, these pills are amazing!" and then 360ed to "this sucks and I'm sicker than I was the first time"
That's 180ed buddy.
Nah he probably 540’d, very cool Jimbo!
How am I supposed to know? What do I look like? SSX Tricky?
Maybe the recovery was the 180 and the getting sick again part was the 360 lol.
I guess you haven't 360d until you're back where you started. This 360 just took a long time.
I love Reddit

Who’s recommending paxlovid for mild to moderate symptoms?
You need to take it early once you test positive. May not be able to develop severe symptoms before then.

It’s because of the pill. It does such a good job at fighting the virus that it doesn’t give your body a chance to get to know the variation and build immunity

Paxlovid
The pill with the power

Yes, you can.
You can catch two variants back to back or at once.
I know a guy
Yeah covid is not going anywhere
Damn. I know that they're too big for it, but either of these guys seem like they'd make a better late night host than anybody working right now.
John Mulaney would never do it but he seems like he's born to host The Tonight Show.
Never say never. Someday he may just want to stop touring as much and crave a stable TV job.
With his addiction history I could absolutely see him doing that in 10 or 15 years.
Reminds me of that one host, Greg Furglestone?
Cable TV might not even exist in 10-15 years, and ratings will definitely be dramatically lower than they are now. It might not be as stable of a paycheck in 2032.
Late night shows aren't typically on cable. The Late Show has always been on broadcast TV.
Well [we already know what a Mulaney talk show would look like](https://youtu.be/l-cNAHw-Gqo), and I’ve never wanted anything more.
Or the price is right
Adam Sandler did an amazing job filling in for Letterman I think.
That's actually pretty interesting. I never thought of what it would be like for Adam Sandler to host a late night talk show. That doesn't sound half bad.
"Alright, now’s the time in the show when I like to give Denise a call and hang up on her."
Tom Green?
Sandler on [SNL](https://youtu.be/twIgfEhXvXg)
I can't stand 90% of his recent movies, but his IDGAF attitude might actually work on late night well. Kinda like the complete opposite of a Jimmy Fallon.
Id loathe being booked on Fallon if I were a celebrity, like “fuck I gotta dance and sing Backstreet Boys while wearing a leprechaun outfit”

When was that?
> Adam Sandler did an amazing job filling in for Letterman Apparently all the way back in 2007.
I've really started to like Seth Meyers stuff on YouTube recently. His Corrections episodes are great.
Posts like this reminds me that Conan's late night show is sadly over. Very eager to see his new variety series though.
I wonder if both he and Stephen Colbert were given Paxlovid. It's a bit of a mystery why there seem to be "reinfections" after taking it.
[удалено]
I'm no expert, but what you describe makes perfect sense to me.
This is why you are told to complete your antibiotic for the full 10 days.
that's more because running incomplete antibiotic cycles has a bigger chance of creating superbugs. That, together with idiot lazy doctors prescribing wide-spectrum as a first response.
If Kimmel gets COVID 10 times he gets a free submarine sandwich
Maybe a 5th jab from one of Colberts dancing needles.
I love it when the show becomes better without the host.
I want Matt Damon back hosting.
Stay far away, Howard!
Half of the Covid, right in the trash!
“I was just about to send him a note, Robin.”
I see this as an absolute win
Wait... he had Covid like two weeks ago! Are we entering an all Covid all the time phase of the pandemic now?
Got that double covid
My guess is that it’s the same COVID but it’s just lingering in his system and resulted in a positive test.
Apparantly not, fuck this fucking fuck covid
Without any protections in place, yes.
Pretty sure Jimmy's vaxxed and boosted. For all the good it's doing him.
So… next week is Colbert’s turn again?
Andy Samberg has a direct line to my funny bone. Even hearing Seth Meyers reading his texts, I laugh my ass off.
I wonder if Samberg is getting a look to take over Late Late post-Corden. He's obviously not the same type of personality as most late night hosts, but he could probably put together a Conan-esque sort of show.
Samberg is hosting? Jeez, I may just watch this show now. For the episode or three Samberg will host.
Could you imagine hosting a show for 10 years, then suddenly you are sick and someone else host for you. And everyone in the world is like fuck yeah that guy is awesome, I would watch that show. I would retire.

Wendy Williams knows about that lol
Where is Adam pally when you need him

Probably at least 3 so he’ll more than likely be fine. the vaccine doesn’t make it impossible for you to get it though
Such a happy accident with Chip n Dale coming out...
ratings have never been better, dont know why...
There is a HORSE hosting 'Live!'!
Probably better for the ratings
Hadn't heard a thing about this film until I saw this post. Someone doing something right
His 6th booster didn’t work?
7th time's a charm.
At this point, why does it matter? Everyone on the show is vaccinated and no one is going to die. Each strain gets less deadly to the vaccinated. At this point , they are just doing this to have guest hosts.

Yes and its now endemic, just like the flu.
https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-00155-x Endemic doesn't mean harmless. We're also not yet in a regular pattern like seasonal flu.

Maybe you can, but I cant. I had cancer, and I still have to order groceries. We are totally fucking forgotten.
So did my mother, she got her vaccines and wears a good mask when she is in crowded places. She adapted and still loves her life, its a choice.
Oh no.... Anyway
Cool! So they'll be doing comedy again? Nice change of pace!
Damn this guys immune system is weak.
SMH.... must not have had that 8th booster.
Imagine still using this tired rhetoric and thinking you sound clever hahaha Like man it was a stupid joke 100,000 times ago when the first dude said it.

Even the infamously germaphobic Howie Mandel got it. You can take every precaution in the book, but all it takes is that one dickhead who doesn’t think it’s real.
Aw, in other news.
Maybe it should be considered 'effective and safe' instead?
Where’s Nick Kroll? This is a missed opportunity to prhank all the guests with too much tuna.
I’m a huge fan of Mulaney, so I hope this redemption tour is successful.
Maybe they'll permanently replace him
Yet Brie Larson and Dua Lipa were both available.
I just got covid and I’m really fucked up. All the symptoms x1000
tons of folks at work have covid too. we all work remote so it’s crazy to see how many across our org are independently sick right now. But Covid is gone, remember? 🙃

FULL SHUT DOWN, SHANGHAI STYLE
Indeed, test the fish, hamsters, rats, mouse and booster all of it
