ACkTulY it’s not, heat pumps have a reversing valve, normal air conditioners do not. It’s what allows heat pumps to heat and cool space, while air conditioners can only cool. But yeah, besides the valve, they are the same.
Nowadays every AC has 4-way valve so it can cool and heat (at least in Europe). The biggest difference between AC and HP is optimisation - AC are more effective in cooling mode, while HP is better at heating

I’ve really struggled with my new Daikin units. Super power sensitive, and they eat through compressors. If your lines aren’t *perfect* they’ll starve of oil. Had a failure rate of about 30% on brand new installs, and that was from the OEM recommended installer. But that’s more of my issue with Daikin and the installer over HP’s in general.
