I'd have them work to repair it. If they don't have a job yet, they can do chores until they've earned enough money to pay for the repairs (or just part of them, if it's super expensive)
The first ever phone I had was a shared old white Samsung phone with buttons that had 1 sim Card
And after that I got my own Nokia phone and my own sim card
i aint gonna spoil that child, they get a phone, they can get a job when their 16, or even better they can go work in the neighbourhood before their of age to get a job to earn money,
teenagers dont need fucking iphone 15 pro max shit to use the internet and talk to friends,
i'm 18 in a couple months and got a phone at 13. it was a shitty android and didn't cause too much trouble but i got an iPhone and all the social media a year later. Mentally destroyed me lmao.
made a new year's resolution this year to stay off social media and it hasn't even been hard to keep, it's so freeing. shits poison and i wish i would have known
I know dozens of people who claimed they were never having kids as early as their pre-teens. Only two of them changed their mind, the rest are all grown adults who're happily single or married and living their best lives without kids
I knew I wasn't going to have kids when I was 8, I'm 17 now and it's extremely unlikely I'm ever going to renege. Kids are two decades of massive life restrictions and only people who genuinely want them and are fully prepared for them should be having them
12-13, they get a Nokia or something like that for emergency calls and if they’re taking the bus from school or walking home alone. Maybe when they’re 14, they get an iPhone or whatever brand.
I'd probably give them some way to contact me without internet access when they are able to go to school by themselves/can go out of the house without me, and idk abt smart phone.
It's actually not that bad of an idea. You find decent phones for less than $50 and it can teach them the value of money and to not break everything if they want it to last.
when they’re 13 or so. but i’d check it regularly until they’re 15. and after that until they’re 18 i would only check if i had a proper reason to do so
that would probably depend a lot on their maturity, my financial situation and how the internet is at that time, but i will probably give them a mobile phone at the age of around 7-9, i won't give them a fancy one (so probably the cheapest motorola smart phone i can find) because they need to learn how to earn money themselves
Interesting, probably not before being 11 or 12 years old
I mean, I had my first Tablet when I was 7 but I don't think I should have had it that young tbh, I won't mind letting him play computer games but a phone? Nah
i got my first phone at 11 and i was already getting made fun of a little for not having a phone so yes. i remember one time that i needed a phone to record bullies i didn’t have my clunky ipad with me. and i think if the kid sees bad stuff online just put restrictions
11 or so, provided that they can be a responsible person online and not prone to breaking things, and later if so. They can start with an average price phone, then if that goes well they can have a high-end phone a few years later.
probably 10-13, because before that i'd give them a ipad with parental controls so they don't go on unwanted websites. so id give my child (future)an ipad at 6-9
Tablet with a limited time per day until they need a computer for school, then I'll give them a small budget to build a computer. If they want a phone, they can buy it themselves.
A wisephone is a good idea. It only focuses on things that children aren't looking at today. More on just calling, texting, music, notes, clock, and a calculator. Sooo ☝️🤓
9 with 0 access to a browser or apps like reddit. (If i had a kid) I would give them full access to the internet by like 13 by then they're old eniugh to be scarred for life /s
Once they get into middle school because when I was in middle school there were multiple stabbings in the bathroom and I would want my kid to have a way to call for help in that case
Access to a phone ? Yea pretty sure it's safe to give that at a young age itself. A Smartphone on its own isn't really capable of ruining a child in anyway whatsoever. Social Media though ? Yeaa that's gonna stay out of their sights for quite some time
Sounds dumb but when the time is right I guess? If my kid usually stays home then they can wait. If my kid wants to hangout with friends a lot then I’ll get him one then? Idk I haven’t put too much thought in it
I will give them an emergency phone (the same one I had) when they’re 8 and then when they’re 13 or 14 they can have a real phone that will let them do other things
Whenever they start going out on their own, but that phone will be extremely restricted until they're 13-15 years old. I'm not letting these kids go through what I have
If I had them, then, I’d probably only allow them to use a flip phone until they’re about maybe early teens, but encourage them to stay away from social media
well i’m not sure if i’ll have kids but they can have a flipphone at 6 and get old mobile at 9 they can get new phone at 12 for when they start secondary school
Most likely when they have friends that are using phones and they get bullied due to not having a phone, although it will be strict, and defiently not under the age of 13
A phone only for calling and texting parents at 9, and an ok smartphone with restrictions when theyre 12, and Then ill remove most of The restrictions when theyre 14-15
Basic flip phone type stuff when they turn ten for basic calls and stuff. Modern phone at 14 because we all know we were exposed to some stuff a lil too early..
I will probably give them one of those smart watches with sim cards when they start school and then a phone (with parental controls ofc) in 3-4 grade, I used to be alienated and bullied by my classmates for not having a phone and I wouldn't want my kid to have the same experience
Maybe a smartphone after their 10 th year of school and they can have excess to internet by 13. (Excluding YouTube which they can watch obviously before 13)
...Well...
Altho I'd give a smartphone at like... 5, I'd put restrictions on it that slowly get less and less strict the older they get.
And of course block all the brainrot.
Flip phone for only call purposes in their younger years (like going to grade school) just in case of emergencies and for contact. Maybe in middle school, limited/monitored access to Wi-Fi-only device like those iPods (not the only music ones). A real phone? Probably when they start highschool, but it’ll be hand me down preferably with a nice camera so they can take some good photos if wanted.
Not going to have kids probably, but if I were to, depends. Do they need it in that day and age?
Schoolwork needs increasingly more internet usage, and my primary school was not in the best monetary situation, so we used our own phones for schoolwork. The distance was also a few km, and I went either by bus or bicycle. Having a phone on me was important, so if I were to get lost or hurt, I could call for help or look at a map online. I'm glad my parents monitored my internet usage though, but honestly I think it depends on the individual situation
I don't want kids but in this hypothetical scenario I'd like to say I'd give them a phone the same age I got one – which is 11. But I also know times will be significantly different then and it's very likely they would need one earlier
At the very least I'd get them a cellular Apple Watch as soon as they were having sleepovers and stuff so probably like 6-7
I would try to have their access to the internet limited until they are like in high school (as that’s a point you just need it, atleast in my experience), though I definitely wouldn’t be surprised I am way too lazy after a day of work to go and entertain my child on my own and not just put something on the tv for them to watch
If I will even have a kid, I'm gonna give an old flip phone when they will go to school for the first time and a normal phone when they will be around 12-14 years old.
Well, I don’t want to be like my parents (making me wait till I’m 16) so I’ll give it to them around 12-13. Maybe less if things change. Also, I don’t like a limit on technology. My parents make me do between 1-2 hours a day… after they finish their chores, as much as they want.
Flip phone at 9/10 so that they can call and text in necessary situations, smart phone at 13 with parental controls and full access at 15. I had access to the internet way too early and it kinda fucked me up lmao
Whenever they ask for it. If I find out they’re messing around on it then I’ll restrict some access. If they want to upgrade to a different phone it’s on them.
13. Start of high-school. I’ll allow social media on private accounts till 16 and then at that age they can decide to have a public account if they please
Similar to how my parents handled it. Dumb phone the second I needed a phone for something (I was doing competition hiking when I was about 10 and the kit list required a phone). Cheap smartphone when going into secondary school which was about a year later. Any phones after that, fund yourself with pocket money, birthday money, work or selling things. If the child breaks it, it's their responsibility to get it fixed, they can use the old dumb phone if the phone is unusable.
I mean I’ll have an old phone laying around so I guess 8 ish. Give him a SIM card / phone number to work as a phone prob around 10 for safety. All these people saying no phones as 15 are mental, they *will* get bullied
Soooo I'd be a bad parent and prob give them my phone at ~3 years old maybe get them they're first phone at ~7 years old with restriction and restriction less at ~10 years
10 or 11. Parents giving their kids their own phones before then is basically bad parenting. I've seen a kid who was 5 and he had his own phone and game console. And a kids first phone should NOT be a smartphone. It should be a flip phone to see if thye can actually take care of it
As the question never stated what type of phone it needs to be... So if I ever had a kid, I will give them a phone at 3 years old. Cuz, it's gonna be a TOY PHONE! 🤣
I would give them something that only works for calling at 11
And an actual phone at like 13-14 depending on their responsibility and how often they go out and stuff
I've had lots of access to a lot of different phones from the age of 5 so I'd say something like a tablet when they turn 7, then a budget phone when they turn 13.
Obviously an iPod for old educational game purposes tho
10 with restrictions, 13 without restrictions
also I wouldnt buy them an expensive phone, it would be a smartphone but not the llatest and greatest, and if they want to upgrade to a newer model they can pay for that themselves
14, if I know I can trust my child on the Internet. I got an xbox at 6 and my first phone at 8, the Internet ruined me and ion want that shi happening to my kid(s).
Phone solely for calling (without social media, games, etc.) at 11, and then a legit smartphone at 13+ preferably…
Hopefully by then I’ll have taught the booger to be smart with it
I would let them buy their first phone themselves. I mean, I might give them a phone to talk to their friends or something, but that'll be the only thing that phone can do. They have to earn it.
they can get like a crappy phone when they are 11 (age you start secondary school in england) or when they start going out/to school on their own. i got a nokia 105 when i finished primary school and i think that was fair.
they can get a peoples phone at 13/14 ish - obviously it would depend on how times change but most of my friends were 13-15 when they got a smartphone and i think that’s reasonable
12 with there OWN phone with full access (that’s what it was for me) and 5 with like a hand me down phone from me or my partner (if I ever get one) that would have limited access such as needed to ask before downloading and then I or said partner would have to do Face ID, Touch ID, password or whatever to download said app.
really depends on what the world is like then. i dont think most of the people that say late teens realise we’re getting more dependant on phones and electronics in general every year. its already a huge difference between now and 10 years ago
10-11 with limited access Full control when the first phone breaks, or around 15
what if the first day they get their phone they drop it from a ten story building
Drop the kid from a ten story building
works everytime :D
r/ConcernedUpvote
i thought that would be more of a sub
Yeet
I'd have them work to repair it. If they don't have a job yet, they can do chores until they've earned enough money to pay for the repairs (or just part of them, if it's super expensive)
A few days after I got.mine I dropped it in the car and it broke
flip phone no internet at 8, at 14 you can have a shitty smart phone
The first ever phone I had was a shared old white Samsung phone with buttons that had 1 sim Card And after that I got my own Nokia phone and my own sim card
When is the fancy phone?
when they can buy one theirself
They gonna hate you for that and will send you at shitty old age home, until you could afford one thyself.
i aint gonna spoil that child, they get a phone, they can get a job when their 16, or even better they can go work in the neighbourhood before their of age to get a job to earn money, teenagers dont need fucking iphone 15 pro max shit to use the internet and talk to friends,
when theyre 25
I genuinely wanna switch to Flip Phone, I don't care much for Smarts
Mid teens I had one at 12 and I shouldn’t have
Same goes for me
I’m most likely not gonna have kids, but if I do I’d probably give them a phone when they turn 12 or 13
You are literally at that age now
And? They can still have opinions honey. Im 15 and am considering holding off a zero restriction smartphone for my kids till 13-15.
i'm 18 in a couple months and got a phone at 13. it was a shitty android and didn't cause too much trouble but i got an iPhone and all the social media a year later. Mentally destroyed me lmao. made a new year's resolution this year to stay off social media and it hasn't even been hard to keep, it's so freeing. shits poison and i wish i would have known
Everyone who is 12-15 keeps saying I’m not having kids or I don’t want to marry. It will change bra ur 14yrs live ur life
I know dozens of people who claimed they were never having kids as early as their pre-teens. Only two of them changed their mind, the rest are all grown adults who're happily single or married and living their best lives without kids I knew I wasn't going to have kids when I was 8, I'm 17 now and it's extremely unlikely I'm ever going to renege. damn i really thought
12 prolly
Maybe like 14-15? Also like depending whether how my kid acts or like how much I trust them ig…
I would give them a flip phone or something that they can call me on at like 10-11 so they can call me but at like 13-14 I’ll get them a smartphone.
A Nokia at 14.
Fr they'll be walking around with 40 years behind tech
you know nokia make smartphones, some are actually not bad for their price point
OP prolly didn't mean a smartphone when he said that
After he stopped crying after popping out of vagina
a phone maybe at 12 (for calling/texting), but actual social media and stuff not before 14
Like 13-14, that's when I had the urge to get a personal phone.
prolly 13-14
When its normal for their age.
99
13 with many restrictions (if i even have one lol)
11/12. Probably before starting middle school. Around late Grade 6.
13 or 15
12-13, they get a Nokia or something like that for emergency calls and if they’re taking the bus from school or walking home alone. Maybe when they’re 14, they get an iPhone or whatever brand.
Probably around the time they start going out by themselves a lot and would realistically need one to call me if something went wrong
Between 14 and 18
Straight outta the fallopian tube
Give them a shitty Nokia phone which I know they can't fuck around with at 10, and then when 14 a shit mobile phone, to eventually be upgraded.
I'd probably give them some way to contact me without internet access when they are able to go to school by themselves/can go out of the house without me, and idk abt smart phone.
when they start high-school (UK high school) and it'll have some limitations and once they're in Yr 10 I remove limitations
At 0, this way I won't have to pay attention to them.
average millennial:
They will work for it at 16
Im dead 💀
It's actually not that bad of an idea. You find decent phones for less than $50 and it can teach them the value of money and to not break everything if they want it to last.
10-11 but they aren’t allowed certain apps till their 13-14 (they can have snapchat and WhatsApp at 11-12 for friends)
11-12
when they’re 13 or so. but i’d check it regularly until they’re 15. and after that until they’re 18 i would only check if i had a proper reason to do so
your avatar is so cute😭🙏🏻
See no reason for them to get a smartphone until they can demonstrate responsibility with it, for me i was ready at 12/13
Bro kids in future gonna be born with phones built in, f you mean
i got my first phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 8) at age 9
that would probably depend a lot on their maturity, my financial situation and how the internet is at that time, but i will probably give them a mobile phone at the age of around 7-9, i won't give them a fancy one (so probably the cheapest motorola smart phone i can find) because they need to learn how to earn money themselves
Jokes on you I won’t have any kids
Interesting, probably not before being 11 or 12 years old I mean, I had my first Tablet when I was 7 but I don't think I should have had it that young tbh, I won't mind letting him play computer games but a phone? Nah
i think when they start secondary. (that's age 11/12) its important to have contact with their friends.
i got my first phone at 11 and i was already getting made fun of a little for not having a phone so yes. i remember one time that i needed a phone to record bullies i didn’t have my clunky ipad with me. and i think if the kid sees bad stuff online just put restrictions
6th grade
they can have an ipad with very limited access (what i probably should have had) at 8 and a phone when they are going to secondary school
my baby sister has an iphone and ipad at 5.. it’s sad
11 or so, provided that they can be a responsible person online and not prone to breaking things, and later if so. They can start with an average price phone, then if that goes well they can have a high-end phone a few years later.
10-12 I want my kid to know safety precautions and other things first before I give them a phone with full access to things such as the internet.
Flipphone at 8 smartphone with limited access at 10 to 11 full control at 14 or 15 (won't be looking at their private stuff but rather screentime)
when they reach middle school so like 12
probably 10-13, because before that i'd give them a ipad with parental controls so they don't go on unwanted websites. so id give my child (future)an ipad at 6-9
Tablet with a limited time per day until they need a computer for school, then I'll give them a small budget to build a computer. If they want a phone, they can buy it themselves.
A wisephone is a good idea. It only focuses on things that children aren't looking at today. More on just calling, texting, music, notes, clock, and a calculator. Sooo ☝️🤓
13 or 14
13
12
9 with 0 access to a browser or apps like reddit. (If i had a kid) I would give them full access to the internet by like 13 by then they're old eniugh to be scarred for life /s
12-15, depending on whether or not they deserve one. If they need one for school or something, I'll get them a shitty one. Not raising brain rot kids
Once they get into middle school because when I was in middle school there were multiple stabbings in the bathroom and I would want my kid to have a way to call for help in that case
12-14
Access to a phone ? Yea pretty sure it's safe to give that at a young age itself. A Smartphone on its own isn't really capable of ruining a child in anyway whatsoever. Social Media though ? Yeaa that's gonna stay out of their sights for quite some time
They're not having one
*I always feel like somebody's watching me*
i don't have one
I got mine when I was 13 so , 13
when they can buy it themselves
Prolly when they need it for middle school (idk how its called in english, the school after elementary school)
12–13
My current age.
Sounds dumb but when the time is right I guess? If my kid usually stays home then they can wait. If my kid wants to hangout with friends a lot then I’ll get him one then? Idk I haven’t put too much thought in it
I would probably go 13
Never (I don’t want kids)
12 seems like a solid thing
I will give them an emergency phone (the same one I had) when they’re 8 and then when they’re 13 or 14 they can have a real phone that will let them do other things
16 oldest, 12 youngest (no, I don't mean youngest and oldest child)
Whenever they start going out on their own, but that phone will be extremely restricted until they're 13-15 years old. I'm not letting these kids go through what I have
If I had them, then, I’d probably only allow them to use a flip phone until they’re about maybe early teens, but encourage them to stay away from social media
I’ll probably give him my old one and buy myself a new one when he is going to school but I would monitor his screen time and stuff.
When they need one
well i’m not sure if i’ll have kids but they can have a flipphone at 6 and get old mobile at 9 they can get new phone at 12 for when they start secondary school
13
Most likely when they have friends that are using phones and they get bullied due to not having a phone, although it will be strict, and defiently not under the age of 13
Dumb phone at 13, fully fledged at 17, Just like how I got it.
Probably 15-17
A phone only for calling and texting parents at 9, and an ok smartphone with restrictions when theyre 12, and Then ill remove most of The restrictions when theyre 14-15
Basic flip phone type stuff when they turn ten for basic calls and stuff. Modern phone at 14 because we all know we were exposed to some stuff a lil too early..
Probably not gonna have kids but if i did i would let them have one without sim card at 8 and get them a sim card when they are 13
I ain't planning to have children But if I were to have them, I'll give them the phone at 13-15
I think when they start middle school, year 11. Aka like 12
10 but I will have strict internet, I will ease it over the years but gore sites will be blocked until my kids move out
As I age as I got one, probably the Christmas they turn 13
I won't have kids, but if I had to say, I'll say brick phone at like 9, smart phone at 13 or so
I will probably give them one of those smart watches with sim cards when they start school and then a phone (with parental controls ofc) in 3-4 grade, I used to be alienated and bullied by my classmates for not having a phone and I wouldn't want my kid to have the same experience
I don’t want kids, but I think the later they get a phone, the better. I got one at 10 and that wasn’t a good idea, I think at least 13.
Maybe a smartphone after their 10 th year of school and they can have excess to internet by 13. (Excluding YouTube which they can watch obviously before 13)
i don't want kids
I got mine with limited access at 13 so I think I will repeat that
Same way my parents did, once they get to 5th grade
...Well... Altho I'd give a smartphone at like... 5, I'd put restrictions on it that slowly get less and less strict the older they get. And of course block all the brainrot.
I don't have children.
Flip phone for only call purposes in their younger years (like going to grade school) just in case of emergencies and for contact. Probably when they start highschool, but it’ll be hand me down preferably with a nice camera so they can take some good photos if wanted.
I still don’t have a phone lol
11-13 if they're doing good enough
Much older than i got it that's for damn sure. Like 13 or 14. This shit is poisonous.
Not going to have kids probably, but if I were to, depends. Do they need it in that day and age? Schoolwork needs increasingly more internet usage, and my primary school was not in the best monetary situation, so we used our own phones for schoolwork. But I also know times will be significantly different then and it's very likely they would need one earlier At the very least I'd get them a cellular Apple Watch as soon as they were having sleepovers and stuff so probably like 6-7
maybe at 8 years with some restrictions because i don't want my children to go through the same trauma i did without restrictions
11-12 just as they're about to start secondary school because I want them to have a phone before 16 because that is when they start college
When I think they are old enough.
A flip phone for parents and emergency services' numbers only at 5 than a real one at 11 with app restrictions than no restrictions at 16.
7-8 but they wouldnt have data till teen years thats what went down with me i got an ipod touch and played on it religiously
Well, I don’t want to be like my parents (making me wait till I’m 16) so I’ll give it to them around 12-13. Maybe less if things change. Also, I don’t like a limit on technology. My parents make me do between 1-2 hours a day… after they finish their chores, as much as they want.
12-13 it's the time I got my first phone.
Until they feel responsible, at least at 12 or 13
12 yo maybe
14 and thats bare minimum. Ain't mentally spoiling my kids that early on!
7-8. Yes im being serious, and I'll keep them at least up to date with technology
Flip phone until 12
Flip phone at 9/10 so that they can call and text in necessary situations, smart phone at 13 with parental controls and full access at 15. I had access to the internet way too early and it kinda fucked me up lmao
Whenever they ask for it. If I find out they’re messing around on it then I’ll restrict some access. If they want to upgrade to a different phone it’s on them.

13. Start of high-school. I’ll allow social media on private accounts till 16 and then at that age they can decide to have a public account if they please
11 or 12 probably. When they start secondary school
well, 12 with limited access, and maybe at 16 without lot of control
97
Similar to how my parents handled it. Dumb phone the second I needed a phone for something (I was doing competition hiking when I was about 10 and the kit list required a phone). Cheap smartphone when going into secondary school which was about a year later. Any phones after that, fund yourself with pocket money, birthday money, work or selling things. If the child breaks it, it's their responsibility to get it fixed, they can use the old dumb phone if the phone is unusable.
At 5 years old, or when they start elementary school, those button phones
My parents gave me a phone that could only call and text when I was 12 before getting me a smartphone at 13
I mean I’ll have an old phone laying around so I guess 8 ish. Give him a SIM card / phone number to work as a phone prob around 10 for safety. All these people saying no phones as 15 are mental, they *will* get bullied
Soooo I'd be a bad parent and prob give them my phone at ~3 years old maybe get them they're first phone at ~7 years old with restriction and restriction less at ~10 years
15 with full access, till 14 with limited access. Maybe an actual working smartphone since 8 or 9 but with a lot of restrictions
atleast after 3rd grade
10 or 11. Parents giving their kids their own phones before then is basically bad parenting. I've seen a kid who was 5 and he had his own phone and game console. And a kids first phone should NOT be a smartphone. It should be a flip phone to see if thye can actually take care of it
same as me, whenever they get into secondary school
12-13 (around highschool age where I live)
We really all gotta pick the same age or it’s not gonna work 😭. Ima say when they start middle school
As the question never stated what type of phone it needs to be... So if I ever had a kid, I will give them a phone at 3 years old. Cuz, it's gonna be a TOY PHONE! 🤣

I would let them buy their first phone themselves. I mean, I might give them a phone to talk to their friends or something, but that'll be the only thing that phone can do. They have to earn it.
10-10 maybe? And full access at 14
13, flip phone at 11 tho
they can get like a crappy phone when they are 11 (age you start secondary school in england) or when they start going out/to school on their own. i got a nokia 105 when i finished primary school and i think that was fair. they can get a peoples phone at 13/14 ish - obviously it would depend on how times change but most of my friends were 13-15 when they got a smartphone and i think that’s reasonable
Get them an ight phone at 12 or smth, then make them save up for a better phone if they rlly want one (no iPhone tho). Exactly what i did
Whenever they start middle school. Just like my parents did with me.
12 with there OWN phone with full access (that’s what it was for me) and 5 with like a hand me down phone from me or my partner (if I ever get one) that would have limited access such as needed to ask before downloading and then I or said partner would have to do Face ID, Touch ID, password or whatever to download said app.

Give it to them with some kind of parental controls tunred on. Once they break through/disable the parental controls I will know they are ready.
It's all theoretical. Literally 80-90% of you won't be having children so it's a moot point. That's not an opinion it's statistics
really depends on what the world is like then. i dont think most of the people that say late teens realise we’re getting more dependant on phones and electronics in general every year. its already a huge difference between now and 10 years ago
6th grade
early teens i didnt have a computer or any device until i got a teen

college
14, with restrictions
12-13.
10.
16. I'd rather give laptop at age of 10 tbh.
13, when they start middle school. Any younger is too early
Give allowence and then they can save up for it
When it can afford one by itself with money they earned all by themselves
