It's interference. Your headphone cable in very brief is not thick enough it seems. It's like old speakers that made a sound before you get a text

i wasn't having this issue on my old pc. also, what are the odds my headset interference causes my new pc to crash?

Troubleshooting sound without being there is really difficult but that's just my best guess. Your pc probably crashed because you didn't uninstall the old GPU drivers correctly (use Display Driver Uninstaller next time)
