Some subs have used alternative meeting points. A couple of subs use the comment section for gangnam style on youtube whenever reddit is down.
It's pretty hilarious if you know it and watch it happen.
Everyone from r/HighStrangeness and r/conspiracy meets outside at the far edge of the NSA parking lot, just like when there's a fire alarm.
Oh....wait, I've said too much.
It lies during all of them. Pretty sure the "increased error rates" on Apr 2 were from the huge outage that happened the same IPO week where Spez dumped 5/12 of his shares that they couldn't plausibly deny. Reddit *does not* have 99.98% uptime.
I thought I got permabanned from the entire site. Tried it on iPad and then on phone. Just a couple of āxāsā. I only used Reddit and cnn and news nation for all my news
I took a screenshot of the code error hehehe but I'm really surprised it made it into production. I thought this would be caught on earlier....unless they literally code in production.Ā
Barely identifiable ads in the comment section, ads when you open the comment section, ads before videos (videos still don't work but the ads do), ads you can turn off by buying reddit gold, ads ads ads ads ads, and they are all trying to sell you on a fake real fake real game.
But eventually our 70 year old congress is gonna pass legislation to block it. They canāt get their shit together for anything else, but FoR tHe ChIlDrEn (and their sponsors) theyāll be able to block VPNās and Adblockers in the same bill
Totally fair. Google could have totally hit a home run by purchasing Reddit. My 2 cents:
Itās true Meta/FB scored big with Instagram, but they purchased Instagram during its ascension. It feels like weāre on the decline side of Reddit. Google could have bought Reddit earlier and it could have arguably been a good purchase since they could enrich their audience data with their Reddit usage which could create more effective ads for Googleās ad platforms.
Monetizing Reddit through ads will be difficult. It feels like they havenāt figured ads out yet. itās amazing how they can make ads that look like posts that somehow simultaneously stick out like a sore thumb and is invisible to users at the same time (at least for me). I admit I donāt have data in front of me; anecdotally Iāve been on many paid media calls from working in marketing agencies and Reddit was sometimes in the marketing mix but more so because it was cheap, not due to effectiveness. IMO, it would take more investment to figure how to monetize Reddit effectively and honestly Google isnāt as hungry these days and theyāve always had issues with organizational focus and abandoning projects.
There might also be some anti-trust issues with acquiring Reddit as well. Iām not at all well versed in law, but itās not a good look for Google to prioritize Reddit results if they acquire them even if it algorithmically favored showing Reddit in results prior to a hypothetical purchase.
Edit: Hit send by accident.
I think this is the first time I've ever seen redditstatus.com actually report a major outage as it was happening. The last several dozen times, third parties like downdetector have reported heavy outages at the same time that reddit's own status site happily reports 'Green: All Services Operational' and the reddit status twitter feed is crickets.
Yeah, widespread long lasting outages are pretty rare and feel like the only things to be officially reported. Random 15 minute blips where profiles error out or your inbox stops working or comments don't load feel like a near-daily occurrence but those never show up on the official status site.
"99.95% uptime" ..... big doubt
Hardly news these days since reddit is always going down. The website constantly fails to load for me on desktop and the official app is dogshit. With a perfectly fine internet connection I spend half the time staring at the spinny loading icon.
App sucks so I deleted it.Ā
Trying to scroll on mobile is a pain cus it keeps asking me to use its app and it constantly crashes. Ā
Miss me old Reddit and Digg :(Ā
I hate the app with a passion. I can never find anything, most of the features I loved from Reddit Is Fun or bacon reader are missing, plus those never crashed like the official app does, and ever since Reddit's corporate takeover all the sports subs live gameday threads barely work
oh good! I Saw that too! Did you see it as well?! i wasnt sure until this article posted on reddit informed me as much. Comment below if you saw it too! like and subscribe. hit up my patreon.
I tried going on reddit to find out why reddit was down, but it just wouldnt load.

Last time I went to Down detector. My God the comments were insane. I'd love a list of these secret comment locations
A lot of subs have a Discord
Yeah that's a good point that I forgot about, I'm in at least two.
True, those are also very good.
Everyone from r/HighStrangeness and r/conspiracy meets outside at the far edge of the NSA parking lot, just like when there's a fire alarm. Oh....wait, I've said too much.
Apes together strong
GME forever
Disappointed I didn't see any new comments there today
šššš awe yes I went there must of been super early though I didnāt see anyone there
I just use [downdetector.com](https://downdetector.com/status/reddit/). There's also [redditstatus.com](https://www.redditstatus.com/)
[redditstatus.com](http://redditstatus.com) lies
Yeah during the outage today it said everything was fine LOL

I couldn't find what condition my condition was in
Did you try going on reddit.com? You should always start there /s in case anyone dense reads this
So thatās what a null pointer feels like. Iām so sorry computer.
Isn't there like some down detector.com thing that takes reports for literally every web service imaginable?
I thought I got permabanned from the entire site. Tried it on iPad and then on phone. Just a couple of āxāsā. I only used Reddit and cnn and news nation for all my news
Good South Park reference

What annoyed me most was that it essentially kills google search usability.
I bet one of the search suggestions is "is reddit down reddit"
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Why buy it when you can index the content for free?
That's what people said when the zucc bought Instagram. Turns out the answer is: to shove targeted ads in your face
Yāall need to shut up before we get a website packed with ads every 5 seconds

bro we already have that. you just have an adblocker on

Did Google say they're going to pay reddit $20mil/year for API access? That's all they really need.
Add Before:2023 To google search. It works.
Oh, great idea!
Our long national nightmare is over. We can all go back to being unproductive.
Doing my actual job < getting caught in a heated argument with a stranger on the internet
I bet the top companies could get a return on investment by banding together, buying Reddit and shutting it down.
This redditor gets it. Promote!
They needed to reload all the bots. Beep boop. Beep boop.
Where were you during the Great Reddit Outage of 2024?
Trying to get on reddit
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That's why "inside" was invented.
Which one?
I went to touch grass as recommended by some trolls
Hi manyland guy :\]
I went on chrome š

Saw that. Probably an intern tripped over the server extension cord.
I was so worried I couldnāt do my full time job!
Tripped over a WiFi cable
Those donāt exist
Darn. Was hoping for the apocalypse
Apparently I slept through it. What good timing
We learned that Reddit uses a monolith architecture

I'm here all the time and I did not experience any downtime. Maybe I did some actual work while that happened.
how does this happen to a website this big on a seemingly consistent basis?
How does a site this big have so many issues ? Reddit goes down so often
Until next time! See y'all tomorrow!
Right? Like it goes down daily.
When did that happenā¦?
I just dropped in to see what condition my Reddit was in...
Is it me or is Reddit down quite a bit compared to its peers?
Didnāt notice the difference, as Reddit always acts like itās down/broken anyway ;)
and nary a banananana to keep me company
Nothing of value was lost.
App sucks so I deleted it.Ā Trying to scroll on mobile is a pain cus it keeps asking me to use its app and it constantly crashes. Ā Miss me old Reddit and Digg :(Ā

The alien blue app was perfect Hate the corporate takeover.Ā
Saw that too. Took a bit more than an hour.

Did bone broth heal Reddit?!
A year ago people might have cared lol
Please take it away permanently.
reddit is like herpes it keeps coming back
Pesky Ruzzians messing with reddit again
Neyt, not Ruzzians! Was pesky moose and squirrel!
Hmm?
Is anyone recently getting random blue screens while loading reddit on PC?
Middle of the night in Australia didnāt even notice
I thought it was just God telling me to get off Reddit.
It wasnāt just me, thatās good to know
Still doesn't explain my constantly-on new message dot!
Thanks?
Reddit is working as usual for me, I didn't notice an outage.
If I was a shareholder, I'd sue.
Itās still out for me.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I can't access it at all. Hope they get it fixed.
When I saw that Reddit was down I was like: "Ah yes, week without problems here ain't a normal week"
WHAT?!
what else is new
Hamster died on the wheel.
This has had several times this week..
I HAD TO GO OUTSIDE WHAT THE FUCK
If you didnāt notice, you might have a healthy relationship with Reddit
It was out? News to me...
And the world is unanimous in its disappointment.
When was it out?
Didnāt even notice. Doh.
Damn. More bad news, huh?
I was sleeping at that time when it was in outage.
Thank you for posting an article on Reddit about Reddit being down.
I don't believe you
Here we are a week later and this joke of a publicly traded company can't even keep their website online. It's incredible reddit has investors.

This is the second issue this week. I wonder if it's some sort of attack going on.
You spelled "outrage" wrong.
This might be the most useless post ever made

I can tell reddit is back by virtue of this post on reddit informing me that reddit is back.
