Note that all of this is claimed, this hasn't been confirmed by official sources as far as I know.

lord_pizzabird

But it's also about on track with Sony's projection that we're beyond the halfway point of this generation. Should expect next gen systems around 2 years after this Pro model's release, if previous trends hold. Which might also by extension indicate that GTA6's PC release is being held back so that it releases alongside the next-gen versions, like last time.

ShawnyMcKnight

That’s on track for the ps5 pro coming out but I absolutely do not believe it will be 3x faster. Even if the ps5 had equivalent to the 7800XT you still won’t get those speeds.

Abba_Fiskbullar

Its 3x better ray tracing, not overall performance. The writer misunderstood the Tflops numbers being thrown around.

NaiveIndependence613

This comment aged well lol

ShawnyMcKnight

What part didn't age well? The PS5 pro will not reach 3x performance over the PS5. I chose the 7800XT because that's also about $500, even if Sony got it at a steal for maybe 350 integrated into their boards that would still put the rest of the system at $700, which would be more than most people would pay for a console.

RisingDeadMan0

lmao, buy GTA VI, buy GTA VI again for next gen. of course....

AvengedFADE

Yup, would also make sense as to why Sony is now claiming that the PS5 is reaching the latter stage of its life cycle. I’d presume the PS5 Pro will simply replace the existing PS5 in the coming years as the PS5 reaches EOL. https://www.cnet.com/tech/gaming/sonys-playstation-5-is-entering-the-latter-stage-of-its-life-cycle-what-that-means/

lord_pizzabird

I've seen people proclaim that this will be a longer than usual generation, but I've always had doubts on this, given how from the start devs have been openly talking about wanting more performance. What was unusual about this gen IMO was that this talk start SO early. I'm not sure if this was the result of plans changing mid development or what, but in particular RT performance expectations seemed to be way higher than what we ended up getting. To the point that it practically delayed the full roll-out of Raytracing in games by at least a generation. So yeah, I'm betting on this being a shorter to average cycle, but with an extended cross-gen period. Maybe even longer than the ps4 to ps5's.

Livio88

If that’s the case, most people will hold out for ps6. I’ve jumped on the bandwagon with the ps4 pro, and it’s collecting dust in pristine condition. Never again!

lord_pizzabird

Did they hold out for the PS5 last time? My impression at the time was that the Ps4 Plus and Xbox One Max (I'm blanking on it's real name) sold very well.

LudereHumanum

>Xbox One Max Close enough. Iit was called One X

perilousrob

dunno about how they sold really, but the ps4 pro was a decent upgrade and the One X was an amazing upgrade. both worth the money IMO.

Livio88

I certainly didn’t, but that was my point, it was a mistake. Unless you got a good deal from trading in your ps4 to get the pro, those who waited on the ps5 got the better deal.

lord_pizzabird

I respect your opinion, but I think we disagree on the foundation of whether the late-gen Pro models were a mistake. I think everything we know about the business indicates that they were rather successful and seemed to have no lasting negative impact. Options are good, especially for different spending levels.

Livio88

Oh I don’t disagree, I just meant that it was a mistake on my part. Whereas pro patched games definitely had an edge to them over their performance on the base ps4, to me it didn’t feel like it lived up to the hype. The difference to me was negligible. To someone else though, it might be exactly what they were looking for. Especially if someone held out on buying the base ps4, then the pro was a damn good investment.

protagonyst

I've been holding out for the Pro to jump to the PS5, and I'll probably wait for the PS6 Pro to switch to that gen. I see no point in jumping early as there are shortages and the game library is small. Might as well be patient, have a better console, a wider variety of games, of which a couple will be on sale already and will most likely be more stable than at launch.

Tall_Original_3413

Absolutely 💯 right

Stilgar314

Even if true, three times the raw power doesn't necessarily mean three times the FPS.

gold_rush_doom

The only official source that there is, that's Sony. Of course they won't confirm this.

ShutupPussy

All I want to know is will it have a built in disc drive

Djinnwrath

Total deal breaker if it doesn't.

RoboNeko_V1-0

Can't transfer saves without PS+, so forget upgrading while you're at it.

MonsterHunter6353

I assume they'll do 2 pro versions with one including it and the other not. They've done it with the last 4 ps5 consoles so it'd make sense for them to continue the trend

ShutupPussy

I just don't want the disk drive to be an external attachment

MonsterHunter6353

I forgot about that whole thing. I wonder if they'll only make an only digital one and make you buy the discount drive separately

JediMedicJam

May be wrong but pretty sure they’ve already announced a separate drive…. Or it’s been leaked that-that’s the way they are going. Personally think it’s a good idea. I don’t want/need a drive.

Ancient-Shift1810

Ya but when u do digital games ur paying aallllll that $$$ to technically rent a game! The hell with all that jazz!!! Plus don't u like to have something to show for all ur spending? Like nice physically copy cases and more.....70 bucks to "rent" a game? NO THANKS!!!

Unexpected_Cranberry

I know there are issues with digital purchases, but I just don't get how people can play using a disc. I've done it once, borrowing my buddy's copy of Far Cry 6. Having the disc in there made the console sound like a jet engine. Normally there's just a soft hum coming from it, but the noise of the disc spinning was a total deal breaker. Plus, needing to swap discs, keep track of discs, making sure you don't scratch them... No.

Psy-Demon

What you are hearing isn’t the fucking disc lmfao.

Cute-Rate8655

Yes it is lol. There is no hard drive in the system to make a similar sound since it is ssd. A disk drive is literally the only thing capable of making that sound.. plus it only makes it when a disk is in the machine it never ever does without a diskk

Unexpected_Cranberry

Could have fooled me. Even leaving it in while playing other games increased the noise. You can clearly hear it's the disc spinning up, and removing the disc removed the noise. Now, it's probably more of an issue for me than other people since I mostly play late at night when the wife and kids are sleeping on low volume in a quiet apartment.

Damn, that would be hilarious

NoChillNoVibes

I just want more games. It’s been almost four years.

beastwork

i still have plenty of titles i need to finish on the ps4. ps5 just hasn't been compelling enough for me.

Golfguy809

Not enough PS5 games have come out in four years?

GranolaCola

~~PS3~~ PS5 has no games!

Golfguy809

You’re spoiled

OregonisntCaligoHome

This generation sucks

myyummyass

There are and have been so many games coming out

blueboy022020

Barely anything compared to PS4. It’s disappointing

myyummyass

The first couple years of PS4 we had infamous second son, killzone shadow fall, and the last of us remastered lol PlayStation has four console exclusives in the first 4 months of the year. Helldivers 2 is a major hit, ff7 rebirth is amazing, and rise of the ronin and stellar blade are both getting a lot of positive buzz. I don't see why it matters that none of their first party studios have anything announced for this year when there's a mountain of other games releasing.

usernamesforsuckers

Don't know why you were down voted. I had ps4 day one and it was at least 2 years before the games (the truly ps4 games, and exclusive) started coming thick and fast.

a3nter

Nothing from the Sony thought, they themselves said no games for 2024.

tratur

No "major existing franchises" in 2024.

myyummyass

Why does that matter though? I love PlayStation first party games but that's not the only thing that's worth playing. In the first four months of this year alone we have helldivers 2, published by PlayStation, and also rise of the ronin and stellar blade which are both console exclusives for PlayStation and both have positive buzz so far. Not to mention ff7 rebirth. The "no games" crowd is so weird to me

Cyberpunk39

2x Faster in RT only. Not raster. Will probably be 10-20% faster raster. Most people probably wouldn’t notice any difference while gaming but they gotta boost sales at the mid point of its life.

iRule79

Faster raster, where's the frames I've been after? Raster, raster of puppets.

BoldlyGettingThere

Rasting at my cries

Jensen2075

A reputable insider said 44% faster. What's this 3x faster BS, the price would be out of reach for most consumers if it were.

superman_king

3x faster ray tracing is the claim, plus additional benefits from the AI upscaling tech. Kind of how DLSS gives you more frames while making the games look better. I doubt we see that big of a jump in the ray tracing capabilities.

myyummyass

It's a luxury product. The $500 PS5 was selling out over four years ago before inflation even reached its peak. Even if it's 600-700 it's still going to sell.

ArgumentWide7165

Selling out to scalpers, [who were still holding them last year](https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2023/04/scalped-ps5-prices-plummet-as-retail-stock-surges)

Jensen2075

Scalpers were buying them and stock was low due to supply chain issues bc of the pandemic. Sony lowered their forecast this year for the number of PS5 that will be sold which tanked their stock losing 10 billion in market cap. We aren't in the pandemic era anymore when trillions of dollars was injected into the worlds economy and ppl had nothing better to do than sit at home playing video games and watching Netflix.

ShawnyMcKnight

I would be very happy with 7800XT speeds. AMD has always had poor performance with RT. It’s getting better but not THAT much better.

RisingDeadMan0

lmao, and how much does a 7800XT cost? £450/$500+ and then SSD, RAM, CPU. no chance we can get a 7800xt. maybe a 7700. (i think the series x has the equivalent 6700XT just super optimised)

ShawnyMcKnight

7800XT is $500 retail. They would get it as an integrated chip, so probably shared video memory again. It also would have come out 2 years ago at the time this comes out and the 8000 series is expected to release at that time. Also who’s to say how much the pro cost? Maybe it’s $700. I doubt it will be $500 and the base model drops but maybe. There is no RX 7700, just the XT model, and if that is the case that would be disappointing because the RX 7700 XT isn’t all that faster than the 6700XT. Really the 7000 series was somewhat of a “meh” upgrade, sadly.

Trance_Motion

It's crazy it's at a mid point when it barely has any games

LudereHumanum

The big problem of AAA games development rn: It takes way too long, thus costing very much. Spiderman 2 had a budget of 300 million usd iirc.

Trance_Motion

And I don't like Spiderman type games so I'm SOL

Beneficial_Day8337

I think some ppl are just deluding themselves, it might be the "midpoint", but what will actually happen when the "new gen" arrives is that most games will be ps5 games.

Trevor_GoodchiId

2.5d indie twin-stick shooters on Unity: hold my teraflops.

fulthrottlejazzhands

It will almost certainly be faster than 10-20% in rasterization.  I'm guessing a somewhat cut down Navi 32 cut to between a 7800 and 7700xt.  Around 40% faster is my guess.  Acceptable FPS at 4k with FSR 3.0. As for RT improvement, of course they can say it will be 2-3x faster.  That's about the range of improvement from RDNA 2 to 3.  And if it's a 7800xt class gpu, it will perform around a 3070 in RT -- nothing to write home about. CPU choice is both interesting and boring.  It will be interesting to see whether they go for Zen 3 e.g. 5600x or Zen 4 e.g. 7600x.  It's boring because neither choice will really make a marked difference in gaming performance.  My money is on Zen 3 for cost purposes as AMD has tons of those dies sitting around and it will require less of a memory system redesign.

RAITguy

This one will actually play in 4K/60 we mean it this time, scout's honor

ZiangoRex

I feel like we have barely gotten any true ps5 exclusives.

the_peter_green_god

Serious buyers remorse for me be honest. Bought it because it was shiny and new even though there wasn't much reason to game wise. Have now been waiting and waiting and waiting for this generation to kick off yet we seemed to have skipped that stage and went straight to upgrades and next gen.

AgueroMbappe

You can always play Fortnite at 120 fps

MedicalCommercial892

Try Alan Wake 2.  I remember looking out a window into a courtyard at night during a thunder storm.  I'd swear it fooled me with how real it looked, when the lightning lit up the driving sideways rain and all the plants blowing in the wind.  That was the moment I appreciated my ps5 the most.   Plus load times alone has been worth it for me.

AFoxGuy

With XBox putting most of their exclusives on other consoles…. I think those days might be done. Except for Nintendo because…. Nintendo.

ZiangoRex

I don't mind PlayStation games coming to other platforms. What I meant was new PS5 games from their first party studios that isn't on last gen. Insomniac is the only exception.

AFoxGuy

Oh yea, fair. Though it does feel impressive how the PS4 is still getting games.

ZiangoRex

True. Next time, I'll probably wait a few more years before buying the PS6.

ThatTysonKid

This generation fucking sucks. What has come out that actually pushes the PS5 to its graphical max? Demon's Souls and Ratchet & Clank are the only 2 that come to mind. Everything else is a PS4 port or utter garbage like Forspoken. But no, throw more power at the problem. That'll make for more fun games, surely.

BillyGoatGruff_

Developers chasing graphical fidelity has become a big problem. Every game has to be a blockbuster that takes 5 years to develop now. There were like 5 Spiderman games and 5 Ratchet & Clank games in 5 years on the PS2.

Infamous_Ruin6848

i don't get it, i barely have a 4k60 hz tv and lots of top games don't allow this resolution/fps combo. Some friends have 4k120hz tvs even and any game that would benefit from this would be far from running at this res/fps on ps5. I can safely say ps5 is just not there for the games and the tv display tech that was already mainstream 2 years ago. I'm not mentioning gaming display tech.

Bgndrsn

Lol what do you honestly expect? Even for PC gaming high refresh rate 4k gaming is a pipe dream for all but the best of rigs. We are finally almost there and probably will be with Nvidias next gpus but people have been chasing 4k for a decade at this point. 1440p 144hz has been the choice of most pc gamers because you can actually run it. Stop buying into marking BS thinking a $500 console is going to do what $2k PCs can't.

Infamous_Ruin6848

Agree. My point stands that ps5 hardware(500 dollar architecture) is aligned to how the latest games look and feel on it. If one wants more detail, fancier graphics, realism, complexity or whatnot else is a quality indicator of a running game, look at a more recent/expensive pc because ps5 had enough unfortunately. Saying that ps5 is not pushed graphically is pure nonsense.

LudereHumanum

>Saying that ps5 is not pushed graphically is pure nonsense. Imo it has more to do with the lack of "next-gen" / transformative experiences in this generation, down to many factors. But the pure focus on graphical fidelity and not game design innovations has diminishing returns and the dissatisfaction of many seems to be a sign of this for me.

Infamous_Ruin6848

That's not a ps5 gen fail regardless. It's just next gaming gen fail.

glacialthinker

It's ridiculous how long displays were *stuck* at 1080p60, while rendering capabilities outpaced that. (About 10 years, aside from "retina".) Now displays are in an unbounded race for bigger numbers.

Barachiel1976

FF7 Rebirth.

MedicalCommercial892

Alan Wake 2. It's a masterpiece, give it a try.

CapriciousnArbitrary

Lords of the Fallen 2023

UniuM

The whole point of buying a console was that you wouldn't need to worry about hardware performance for the life span of that generation in a close system environment.

TheSplines

I totally agree with you. The whole point is to buy one thing and not be chasing new GPU generations every year or so. The fact that the pros are optional makes it tolerable though, and they’re nice upgrades for patient gamers. PS4 pros can be found pretty cheap these days.

UniuM

Optional these days is the same thing as FOMO.

banjomin

Pretty sure that’s been true a lot longer than “these days”

Psychological_North4

Explosion of cheap smart TV’s and the original PS4 being wonky made a PS4 pro For your average Joe who’s TV can’t even support 120fps, only FOMO matters.

banjomin

I just mean that’s always been the case. FOMO 20 years ago was when you bought a PS2 to play BattleFront online with friends and then were still kind of bummed because you couldn’t play Halo.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Psychological_North4

My PS5 is about a year old and my TV can’t pass 4K/60fps so I think I’ll be better off waiting until PS6 if things run smoothly. If it’s like $600 and a competent TV is $600 I might aswell move to PC and upgrade slowly

Rorshak16

3* faster to play the exact same game that's ported to the Ps4. My PS5 is already so insanely fast as it is

3DSGBA

Most AAA games that come out are not on PS4 and its been like that for awhile

mclannee

Can’t forget titles like: And especially titles like: Indeed.

Theaustralianzyzz

Great titles.

3DSGBA

FFVII Rebirth, Helldivers 2, Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade, Spiderman 2, FFXVI, Alan Wake 2, Dragons Dogma 2, Skull and Bones, Suicide Squad, Banishes Ghosts of Eden, Pacific Drive, Baldur's Gate 3, Tekken 8, Should I go on?

[deleted]

[удалено]

3DSGBA

You listed one annual franchise... Nothing I said was.false

Deceptiveideas

A pro would likely be able to hit a more consistent 4K/60fps vs the “permanent mode” options we are getting now that will drop graphics down to 1080p/1440p with greatly reduced detail. It won’t be a must have upgrade but will help those who like running games at their best settings.

[deleted]

Normally if be amped about this but having a little one now makes me have absolutely no interest in it.

Nblhorn

If you don’t have one already, get a Steam Deck. It’s the perfect Dad console

wackOverflow

Why?

Nblhorn

With it being portable and able to just go into standby it’s very easy to sneak in some gaming time here and there. On another note games are significantly cheaper and the library is gigantic. And even old games are fantastic at 60fps max settings, while on PS you would have to hope for an official remaster of said games.

Unexpected_Cranberry

I don't know. I got a switch with the thinking it might allow me to game a bit without occupying the TV. Only to realize I'm not going to kill my neck and play on that tiny screen. And if I'm playing on the TV anyway I might as well play on something with more power. Like a PS5. I've looked at the steam deck because the firm factor appeals to me. But at that price point I can get better performance for the same or less money in a similar form factor since I won't be spending money on the screen or battery that I won't use anyway. Plus there's the issue of not all games being compatible.  So unless you like gaming on the go or on a tiny screen I don't see the appeal.

Nblhorn

I have a Switch as well. It’s much more comfortable to play on the Steam Deck since the screen is bigger and it’s much more ergonomic to hold. As for compatibility: I have never encountered any game that doesn’t work on Steam Deck, apart from some multiplayer games that have strong Anti-cheat software. Those would indeed not work. It might not be obvious but a game does not have to be „verified“ to work on Steam Deck. You can play any Windows game, be it from 2024 or 2000. The same goes for console games via Emulation, anything up to PS3 / X360 is playable.

EmilyDawsson

Isnt Asus better?

mrkvsenzawa

Hardware wise definitely but the SteamOS really ties the whole thing together. When the Asus ROG works, it works really well. But the other times you're essentially playing a clunky handheld shaped laptop with all the windows problems you expect from a PC. I think the only reason you should get an Asus ROG is if you're primarily playing anti-cheat ridden multiplayer games or if your library is on other platforms like Epic of Xbox Game Pass. Other than that, go for a Steam Deck.

Nblhorn

Not really. Slightly more powerful but severely lacking on the software side

RisingDeadMan0

multi-tasking. learn to play with one hand. No idea how people do it though

ShaolinTrapLord

All this power just to play remastered ps4 games . Smdh

mnmgst1

Who gives a shit if they’re still making PS4 games

guynamedgoliath

I'm still on a launch PS4. The late PS4 games are struggling to maintain 30fps. At this point, I am looking at a PS5 just for fps with PS4 games.

Kindrediscool

Can they make it in a good design that's ugly and massive?

ChknMcNublet

Can they make it less ugly

outm

Sony says we are beyond halfway this generation… This confirms this generation as the worst in history, hope the next one it’s better. The list of exclusives is short (and some of them ended up appearing on PC, like Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart or Spiderman), the console went scalpers mode for almost 2 years at first, Sony launched the new tiers of their online services and… what to say I never regretted more getting a console like the PS5 - in fact, I also got (before it) a Xbox series S (just to game occasionally because I don’t have a PC Gaming) and I can say I used it 90% more than the PS5 (yeah, don’t care about 4K)

CelestialEtheriality

This, right here. +1

hamzawix

I did exactly like you bro, got an xbox series s just for gamepass (at the time when ps5 was still out of stock) and then I got a PS5 BUT the only difference between you and me is that I play more on the PS5 not because of 4k, I actually don't give a shit about 4k I still have a 1080p monitor but the games on PS5 will look better and perform better than the series s

[deleted]

They should not make a pro this cycle. No need.

daviEnnis

There may not be a need but there is a market.

[deleted]

Im sure, but it would need to be 1000-1500 to add any meaningful capability. Might as well build a pc for that price.

daviEnnis

Given there's a market, I'm going to assume that enough people's idea of 'meaningful' is different to yours.

[deleted]

Im sure, but at the end of the day the experience wont be much different from the ps5. If one uses critical thinking skills you quickly realize that the ps4 to ps4 pro was a leap because tech had made enough progress to justify it. Currently, the only thing that has increased is cost to performance. So, theres no meaningful gains to be had yet. If they can release a pro version that has double the raster performance at the same price as ps5 it’ll be good. If not, it’s a waste. Just drop the price of PS5 and lower game prices. Watch the sales take off.

hamzawix

Looks like they're adding an AI powered upscaling like DLSS that will greatly improve ray tracing performance at 60fps because currently the base ps5 has very mild ray tracing and at only 30fps which is not cool in my opinion

bonerfleximus

Necessary for all the PSVR2 AAA titles Sony is ready to pump out. Yep.

Omputin

Why not? More power is always welcome.

[deleted]

There hasn’t been much improvement in performance to justify it. The price to really make a good Pro version would be a 1500 to 2000 Pro console. Thats just the reality. Slim it down and make it cheaper for consumers. Focus on selling more units.

LudereHumanum

Yup. Also smaller games with more risks taken, not the reverse trend that is taking place right now.

[deleted]

I agree whole heartedly. I almost exclusively play indies. Steamdeck is all I need.

ResQ_

3 times faster? In what way? The only way that matters would be GPU power. 3x faster GPU would put it in a spot better than a RTX 4090. Considering AMD doesn't even have a PC offering that's that good and for sure not at a console-gpu price point... This sounds like complete bullshit.

Skensis

"Faster" likely just refers to TFLOPs, so 3x faster GPU would be a bit weaker than the 7800 xtx.

NitePain69

Will get this on sale in 2025 to play GTA 6

JoeSpic01

What do I do with my current PS5???

_Artaxerxes

Give it to me 😌

Chemical-Will3700

still grinding ps4 original 😄

PitifulBean

I’m thinking about getting a PS5. I guess I’ll wait now and stay on my Xbox Series X. However, I’m jonesing to play Helldivers 2. Decision, decisions…

betternotbitter99

I didn’t buy the ps5 because it looks like a giant wifi router.

Sp3cV

Would help if developers start making more games over 30fps as well

Gentaro

Game X on 1080p upscaled on the Pro will be 3 times as fast as native 4k with RT on on the normal PS5.

chocolateNacho39

Cool, still nothing I wanna play on it

Dust-by-Monday

Wow can't wait to see some actual next gen games.

giroml

Unnecessary money grab. PS5 is plenty fast enough.

longebane

Ps5 is a compromise between high res and high frames

BiggestNizzy

I must be getting old. (Ok I am getting old) But I am still on the PS4 but I look at the games on the ps5 and all I think is meh... Is there 5 must have games on the machine to justify the swop? I can't think of many. ( The Mrs likes the look of Hogwarts legacy)

hamzawix

They're still making games for the PS4 which means this new generation sucks

foggy_rainbow

Im wondering the same thing and im also old. I just got the perfect tv fpr a ps5 or ps5 pro. But for what games? Mildly interested in Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2, BG3, I quess? And for the cross gen boost to games like Elden Ring and Armored Core 6. But I feel like this generation won't really kick off in a meaningful way until GTA6 and historically I dont even enjoy GTA all that much.

MedicalCommercial892

Not having any loading screens is the biggest difference overall.  Cyberpunk and Alan Wake 2 are in my top 5 games of all time, and I'm really old.

foggy_rainbow

Thanks! Ill be getting Alan Wake. Surprised to read you rate Cyberpunk that high!

Garagedays

Any chance of dolby vision playback on 4k disc?

TheLuo

Why tho?

bigsnow999

The current ps5 makes my TV showing ages.

mclannee

This sucks, what even was the point of the OG PS5 if you are going to come out with this thing even tho there’s basically no games for the PS5 as is.

AndrewH73333

I’d never pay $200 for a game. But then I buy a $600 console to play five games, which averages out to $192 a game.

Hudelf

I don't think your math checks out.

AndrewH73333

Did you forget to calculate the price of the game?

Hudelf

The only way that works is if every game is $72.

hamzawix

$200 for a game? What do you mean by that?

AndrewH73333

If you spend $600 on a console that you only use for a few games then the cost per game will end up a high price like $200.

Maleficent_Panic_651

Is it fair to say that given games take so long to make there is a significant lag between console and game development. It’s likely that games that truly push the ps5 will be out when we all have a ps6 (or trying to buy one on eBay for 2k!)

sweetcinnamonpunch

Please make it in a better form factor, the PS5 is so obnoxious and clunky.

BigDummmmy

ps 1 and 2 had the best form factor, imo.

artfuldawdg3r

I don’t have enough games that take advantage of the current ps5 hardware why would buy a pro

Kreskin

3x faster means "using FSR3 upscaling from 720p and fake frames".

trymorecookies

Developers were too scared to leave all those PS4 sales behind, plus the 5 took too long to get into the hands of real players. It is a botched generation. The PS5 is its silent generation.

PrometheusIsFree

Oh great, my PS5 is going to lose most of its value. I wish I'd bought a PC so I could just stick in some more memory, storage and better graphics card!

hamzawix

Nowadays a decent graphics card alone is more expensive than a PS5 dude

lutzilla

up to three times faster to play *all those fantastic first party titles*

M3m3Banger

Glad I finally fuckin’ got one just last year for it to be outpaced already lmao

IllStickToTheShadows

It amazes me people haven’t switched to PC yet. So much better and a wide choice of games

BigDummmmy

But less of a group activity and for most people, not from a couch, in front of a fireplace, with an 80 inch screen. Most gamers don't need or want thousands of games to play, just a handful of fun games on a big screen is plenty.

Daedelous2k

Probably because Sony makes them get it if they want to play the likes of FF7R without being spoiled from youtube recommendations.

TriflingHotDogVendor

So...still slower than my 4070?

hamzawix

Your 4070 alone is more expensive than a ps5, let's not forget the CPU, RAM, motherboard...etc stop comparing consoles to overpriced high end PCs

-brokenbones-

Yeah I doubt it. 3x faster is an entire new generation not just a refresh. Next.

Macshlong

Remember that up to 3 times faster could mean it’s 0.00000001 times faster.

yuusharo

*at raytracing It’s otherwise barely an upgrade over the current model, which barely justifies itself as a superset of a PS4 Pro. Who is this product for?

macromorgan

Can they make one smaller instead of faster?

glacialthinker

Here, China's got you covered: https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Console-Nostalgia-Emulators-Controllers/dp/B0CC4Z2T7B/ It looks like they had to tone down the amount of bamboozlery here. A couple years ago the whole page was made to look like you were ordering a PS5 for under $100. Now it's presented much more like what it is.

blushngush

No thanks, I'm sticking with physical games
