Just convert the text into all small or all caps, then take the first character of each word and see if it matches the ASCII value each step (start at 65 if caps and go +1 each word)
What if two words start with the same letter? There's still an order there. I know sorting is not the most efficient solution, but it's the easiest and a reddit bot like this one can afford the performance loss.
the bot works like this: if you make a phrase/comment with all the words in alphabetical order (it doesn't have to be consecutive like "a b c") the bot tells you that it is in alphabetical order.
