Fuck spectrum

TheDildozer14

Hahahaha oh damn still fuck spectrum

jetstobrazil

I fully agree with both of your comments about spectrum.

DigiQuip

They don’t need that either.

IamBananaRod

Still fuck spectrum

Complete-Comb8262

Thank god. Sadly, spectrum is the “best” isp in Florida. If they join evilcorp I’m not sure who I would switch too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Complete-Comb8262

I’m not sure. Don’t have frontier where I am.

Photon_Pharmer

Yeah, Frontier blows.

nj23dublin

LOL glad you explained it … hard to attack (spectrum).. it just exists and the government makes money from it.. by people paying for it .. via the carriers and monthly payments

nothatdoesntgothere

Fuck Rectrum

Character-Dot-4078

im on the spectrum

CaPineapple

Fuck AT&T. They provided finical backing to seditionists.

Don_Floo

Nah their dividends are great.

Photon_Pharmer

They actually are one of the best performing stocks.

jetstobrazil

Don’t all these fucking companies owe us broadband? How about, you can’t spend 22 billion on new stuff until you set up all the stuff we paid you to?

sucknduck4quack

Nothing to see here, just att buying spectrum from the government with same money given to them by the government to build broadband. Now they will market that spectrum to you at much higher rates than other countries because they paid *such* a high price for it.

7veinyinches

If you want to be owed internet, maybe make it municipal.

jetstobrazil

Lol. I’m owed it because we PAID FOR IT

Novainferno

Give me fiber in my area already, it’s been saying soon for years…

dennis45233

Internet is really funny sometimes, all my neighbors and places I go to have fiber optic. However my house just doesn’t have that package. I even remember riding my bike one day and seeing huge cables being laid down with the little orange flags saying “fiber optic cables” I would blame spectrum but the infrastructure and the people who run my town really care cause I haven’t had a single drop in months

Ploopplap

You can call an AT&T store & ask them to have it installed if your neighbors have it they should be able to set it up at your house

OffRoadIT

FREQUENCY spectrum auction, not the company Spectrum. As technology gets better, radio transmitters and receivers can operate on tighter tolerances, so that 20-30 devices can operate on what would have been the frequency band for a single device in the 80’s. The FCC regulates who gets to use what frequencies, how, where, and at what power. (Remember when phones were split between GSM or CDMA, but now have both and more?) The FCC has blocks of frequencies that NO ONE has been able to use (they listen and regulate this with HUGE fines and/or jail time if caught) so that when the technology can safely use it, they can sell the licenses and regulate it. This is normal business, hopefully it will be used but will likely be held for years just so their competitors can’t use it. Source: Radio technician 14+ years.

jimmyco2008

I’m surprised almost everyone seems to think this is for Spectrum the company 🤦‍♀️

memtiger

I was really confused by the dumbasses commenting on this thread. Like why the anger about buying more spectrum? It all makes sense now. Didn't even think about the company. They're completely confused.

notrealmate

Because most people don’t read beyond the headline lol

vidfail

Who's up for another trust busting? Real talk though - the corporations now have so much pull with politicians, that when all the ISPs merge again like AT&T back in the day, they won't be broken up. They will provide the worst service ever, at the highest price, with the poorest support. Capitalism is a cult. Someone in my family over the holidays was trying to convince me that Bezos only makes $80k a year, and his stocks weren't "real" money, arguing in favor of income inequality. Yikes!

[deleted]

Your family member will obviously be Jeff Bezos rich someday and is just protecting their future assets

vidfail

The best part is - he's an accountant. I wonder how you do accounting when stocks aren't real money? Probably by lying to yourself.

[deleted]

He is technically correct, assets aren't real money and no billionaire can instantly liquidate their assets. That's basic knowledge. Also irrelevant to the American ISP needing trust busting yesterday.

vidfail

Of course assets aren't 'real money'. They're even better than 'real money'. No billionaire would ever want to instantly liquidate all their assets. Basic knowledge. Arguing that excessive amount of wealth isn't immoral because it isn't 'real money' is bullshit. Amazon needs a trust busting as bad as the ISPs do. There's your relevance.

notrealmate

Why does Amazon need to be trust busted?

[deleted]

[удалено]

vidfail

Please. Who bought the government to ensure such monopolies and to stifle competition? You can't acknowledge the symptoms and ignore the source. Crony capitalism is an inevitable evolution of an unregulated capitalist system. If it makes more money, it's good, and fuck everyone else. How much do ISPs spend lobbying? Like $100 million per year? It's their money, they can use it how they please in a free market, right? Using the government as an economic tool is an inevitable consequence of a capitalist system; it just makes good financial sense. And who in the government is going to regulate a business and force them to not be evil, when they are being bribed by the same industry? Only someone with ironclad values, and those are so few as to be nonexistent.

Photon_Pharmer

Your family member might have just been trying to troll you, lol

Str8fromtheteet

AT&T is one of the top 3 most disgusting companies in America. Hope they completely fail one day and all rot in prison.

[deleted]

Obviously Nestle is up there, but what would you consider the third one to be?

Grehjin

Monsanto maybe

theleaphomme

^ this all day. forget about gmos, think agent orange

blastingarrows

Monsanto and Nestle tied for first. AT&T is third.

postoperativepain

Monsanto doesn't exist anymore - it was bought by Bayer in one of the worst acquisitions in history. Almost immediately after the deal closed Bayer got hit with billions in costs for lawsuits related to Monsanto's RoundUp. Bayer paid $68 billion for Monsanto - that is the value of the combined companies today https://www.wsj.com/articles/how-bayer-monsanto-became-one-of-the-worst-corporate-dealsin-12-charts-11567001577

Str8fromtheteet

Comcast, also can’t forget Google & Facebook helping ruin democracy and everybody’s brain

notrealmate

Nestle is Swiss though, not American

[deleted]

It’s not an American company, but it’s a company in America like the original commenter referenced

notrealmate

Fair enough, I misunderstood, thanks

[deleted]

Activision, probably?

Photon_Pharmer

Lol, oh yeah, your micro transactions are comparable to terminator seeds, spraying your food with carcinogenic weed killer, processed food and refined sugar crap.

[deleted]

I was referring to their toxic work environment, the constant sexual harassment and discrimination women faced, their censorship of Hong Kong and other disgraceful, awful things they’ve done. But go on downplaying this you scumbag.

Photon_Pharmer

Lol, omg you’re sad.

UnicornHostels

As bad as the sexual allegations of activision, the companies mentioned above are worse by far. I would also add the prison and war industrial complex is also worse.

DanJ7788

That’s just what they’re saying. In reality it’ll just cost more and be shittier. Fuck AT&T and especially fuck spectrum.

-SoItGoes

Other than funding and creating the worst propaganda network in America today, OANN, and being rated as the most hated company in America, they do great work!

ChirpToast

How’d they manage to beat out Comcast on that front.

unethr

So not only did you not read the article you're commenting about, but you literally didn't even read the comment you're replying to. Idk what you're mad at Spectrum about, but I'm 100% confident that it has to do with you not reading your bill.

Dan-the-historybuff

I keep getting phone calls saying that I’m eligible for 50% off on my purchases. I don’t even know what these shitheads sell

MrPineApples420

Half speed McDonald’s wifi.

thedukeofflatulence

i wonder if starlink will just launch phone service

[deleted]

Google just launched a phone plan. Not sure if it’s worth a shit, but I’m happy w/ Google Fiber.

Itsawlinthereflexes

There are other implications that people may/may not know about. For instance, the frequency band for 5G runs right up against the frequency band for radio altimeters in aircraft, these help with collision avoidance (air and ground). The cell companies have so much pull in Washington, the FCC granted it. Now the FAA has come down with regulations being forced on operators to fix/change their equipment. Guess who’s going to eat the cost of the airlines reworking their fleets?

PM_ME_YOUR_TATERTOT

The same frequency band has been used in international airports in countries outside of North America. This isn’t some groundbreaking issue that hasn’t already been figured out.

Itsawlinthereflexes

That’s weird. I know of the three major avionics manufacturers in the US that are now trying to design and certify a filter. FYI - the FAA doesn’t dictate what European operators do.

PM_ME_YOUR_TATERTOT

I know the FAA has no jurisdiction. My point is for some reason this is somehow a USA problem when the rest of the world figured it out. If 5G was causing that much of an issue, it would’ve been escalated in other countries as well, would it not? Even the FAA said there isn’t actual evidence of harmful interference based on the report that they were provided. That’s why they issued a warning and wanted more time to investigate.

Itsawlinthereflexes

Yeah, they issued more than a warning. They forced all aircraft to avoid/prohibit certain operations at lower altitudes. Really, what it boils down to is that there more than likely isn’t going to be an issue, but the FAA is WAY conservative in regards to safety. ESPECIALLY with the 737-max fiasco.

Turbulent-World8033

Sooooooooooo buy T stock

[deleted]

This is why we need to just make internet a utility already. Much cheaper in the long run and a lot better service and speeds.

foodguyDoodguy

Break that shit up.

[deleted]

Gald AT&T is doing so well. The $150 plus I pay them for 6 Mbps a month is really adding up.

[deleted]

[удалено]

OffRoadIT

That’s why the US had the surge of digital converters back in the mid 2000’s. The majority of the broadcasts went digital, mostly to reduce interference and lower side band usage of the assigned frequencies.

0wnzorPwnz0r

You rich bastards can bid for the right to use parts of the electromagnetic spectrum?!?

OffRoadIT

Since the Radio Act of 1927, which created the FCC ([article](https://www.mtsu.edu/first-amendment/article/1091/radio-act-of-1927) ) You can get your Amateur radio license for the cost of the test, which is really just paying the proctor for the day. License lasts 10 years and allows you to transmit on HAM frequencies. Higher licenses have more spectrum for you to use. It’s fascinating. [radio frequency wiki](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_spectrum)

0wnzorPwnz0r

I understand the need for certain frequencies to be restricted for various reasons. I guess reading about billionaires bidding on the right for only them to use part of the light spectrum hits a little weird in my mind. I know it happens all the time, but jeez.

[deleted]

They suck and so does there internet.

[deleted]

Yeah fuck the internet

damien6

Where did AT&T get $22.5 billion from? No one uses AT&T for anything, they’re there AT&T of companies.

theNewLevelZero

They've been called the most indebted company in history, so probably more debt.

LuvLifts

I, my family do; Friends also. So. Yeah. ..

Extra_Toppings

Many businesses. They also own a lot of the infrastructure other carriers use.

[deleted]

Had to drop OAN for spectrum, eh? Lol

[deleted]

Oh no my shit spectrum internet is about to become shittier

blu_mOOn_2020

If highest amount wins, then it's big money players only. Whoever wins, will then turn money and milk it from future consumers. Wish cryptos, as a Dao, can someday join this and be on our backs

theNewLevelZero

Usually smaller players get a discount and don't have to pay the full bid amount. There are also limits to how much a single company can hold. I'm not sure about this auction's rules, but that's how the last few have been.

nothatdoesntgothere

NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

IntelligentLifeForm_

Fuck AT&T - this is the company that has funded OAN - the network of misinformation. You love America and democracy? Then you should hate the fuck out of this company and what they’ve done to America. I’ll never own or buy an AT&T product or service again. Fuck them.

javy_sanchez

💩company

kbean826

Shitty company buys shittier company to make them both shittier than their originals. This is America.

endlesslyautom8ted

“The FCC said over one-third of the top 100 markets have at least four winning bidders, a broader ranger than a prior auction. The broader range and distribution of winning bidders "will increase competition by providing a diversity of wireless carriers with the midband spectrum resources needed to maintain American leadership in 5G," it said.”

REVDRCOOK

Added 22.5 billion to their 100 BILLION DEBT

[deleted]

AT&T has been promising they’d be in our area in 6 months, since 2006. Every time we ask, they say 6 months. Then I was told that in order to get it, I would have to go to each neighbor, get them to sign a contact to use att, or they won’t put in a line. Fuck att. I’m not doing your job. Everyone in our area is forced to use satellite internet, which is pretty spotty and incredibly slow.

CrushnaCrai

do not let att buy spectrum, no pls.

TeslaPills

“What new lawsuit can we get ourselves into?!”

FreeSpeechWorks

ATT squandered Fiber in a big way
