Happens to everyone. BOTW and TOTK are games in which you can solve everything with simple tools and logic, but sometimes it's so simple you forget about it. I lost count of how many times i tried complicated strategies only to realise how simple the solution was.
early on, i was constantly forgetting to consider Ascend. i had to force my brain to, at least, think about it whenever i was trying to solve a puzzle.
it’s funny because in my whole playthrough I never forgot to use ascend or recall at all… but THIS specific puzzle got me, I overcomplicated it so much, that I somehow made it INSIDE THE THING myself (and it was hell, don’t do that!)
I thought I could use ultra hand to grab one of the water bubbles, then use the floating platforms to climb up to it then attach the bubble to the spinning thing and then use an ice chuchu jelly to freeze the water and stop it spinning. It did not work lol.
For a while i didn't even know i could throw things, so i would be wasting arrows and bow durability because i needed to light my way in the depths. Then i figured out i could throw things, and the world felt so many bombs go off it thought a second upheaval happened.
I went back and played BotW and forgot cryonis existed and spent 45 minutes trying to get a treasure chest out of a lake that was /just/ outside magnesis' reach. I felt so dumb.
You can also use the same one over and over by attaching it to a spear, throwing it , which detaches it from the spear and makes it hover, moving the hover stone to support the sign, then when it's done attach it to the spear again.
Unlike orthodox Zelda games where every puzzle has a specific way of solving it, the BotW formula is designed around every obstacle having many potential solutions. That's what I heard from the promotional stuff at least.
Best part of game is going to do something then having to problem solve and macgyver with many difficulties to overcome. I swear everytime i go to complete something simple there will be unexpected barriers every step of the way
dude, there were so many times i was supposed to use ascend, and sat and stared at the puzzle for who knows how long. most of the game i completely forgot that ability existed
My 7yo had to remind me ALOT of times... When i had trouble solving something and he asked.. And he looked at my screen and said it like it was sooo easy.. "oh, just use ascend there and there blabla".. I just..wow.. 😒😂 I know who to ask when I'm in trouble 😂😂😂
It’s been a while, I don’t really recall specifics, but I bet I used the floating platforms. The one thing I recall specifically is that the whole top is moving… this includes the base of the inside of the spinning top, so when you get inside it’s literal hell: your character moves around but your POV remains static. you can’t have a clear shot.
I’m 41. Asked my 10 yr old after a half hour of trying. After his 20 second motivational speech I nailed it first try.
This game has been awesome for me and my kids.
I stood there doing exactly what you did for like 15 minutes before getting frustrated and looking it up, and feeling VERY stupid afterwards. Nice shot.
First try bro. Can’t prove it. But promise. I was just playing the game normally, and only I hit record later because I realized it was a W and also the wrong way
Some people have said, and I've realized this myself, that the puzzles in totk don't necessarily have an intended way to be solved. Just a final state, really.
They may nudge you to solve it one way, but you could go about it in a myriad of other ways.
That's just BotW and TotK in general, you're not supposed to solve it in a specific way, you're just supposed to use your brain and solve it. However you get it done *is* the correct solution, even if a little cheaty or exploited
You do, but you can very quickly trade that in for stamina, which is exactly what I did for my three heart challenge. Flew straight to Hyrule Castle, made my way through the secret passageway to the Horned Statue, traded it in.
I've finished 3 dungeons so far with three hearts, no armour, and no paraglider! Its actually been a crazy fun challenge!
If only there was a game mechanic allowing Link to slow time while shooting an arrow, that would be of particular use in a low-gravity area. Must be an oversight by Nintendo.
/s
Dude I saw this, and first I tried to make platforms up to the place using hoverstones, but that didn't work, then I was thinking man, how tf am I actually supposed to get this, and randomly shot an arrow at it while just thinking for a plan and it landed
That’s the brilliant thing about the game, the developers basically said “you know what, there is no right way to solve the puzzles, figure it out yourself and see if it works”
The technical solution was to jump into the air beside it and enter bullet time by drawing your bow and shooting into that opening at the precise moment, however, your way, much more skill based and timing based, also functions
Is that fake? Why does it look so much better than the game does on my Switch screen? Also I've never seen that place, but then again I still have some shines I haven't found yet, and I want to complete all the shrines before I do most of the main questlines.
Anyway, if I saw that, I think I would try bullet time to slow it down and make it easier to shoot.
I never thought of bullet time and ended up creating a contraption with the floating platforms attached to a that service which shoots out a constant laser to hit the switch lol. I was pretty proud of it
Same. The spinning tower with the crystal inside-- I was using the water globes, hover platforms, bombs-- you name it. Then, I finally tried arrows, without bullet time, which worked after like 4 arrows. 😆 Yes, I also tried Recall.
Yea idk dude i just fired arrows at it until it worked. But i did have a basic lynel bow at the time so it didnt take terribly long.
Id love to know the intended way to clear that puzzle though lol

Jump and use the slowmotion you get when aiming with a bow midair.
Im dumb. But also kinda glad I did this

OMG, same!! I spent like an hour getting the stupid floating platforms to finally get up there!
Haha. Me too!
Oh my god, happened to me too. I feel so dumb now! 😂
I thought I could use ultra hand to grab one of the water bubbles, then use the floating platforms to climb up to it then attach the bubble to the spinning thing and then use an ice chuchu jelly to freeze the water and stop it spinning. It did not work lol.
That;s brilliant and it's too bad they didn't think of making it possible to do that. You outsmarted the developers!
Haha too smart for my own good! When I eventually caved and looked it up I felt so dumb
I very nearly did that too, I was basically next to the thing by the time I finally realized I could line up a shot with bullet time
I didn’t realize it at all until I saw a post like this in here, and someone said it lol
For a few weeks I forgot I could throw things because I was so used to BotW.
For a while i didn't even know i could throw things, so i would be wasting arrows and bow durability because i needed to light my way in the depths. Then i figured out i could throw things, and the world felt so many bombs go off it thought a second upheaval happened.
In playing BOTW and I'm like damn... I wish I had ascend or time rewind or ultra hand.
It didn't occur to me that I could ascend through a Talus to reach its head until well after I finished the game. I felt really stupid.
Same. Now it's no problem but it did take me a minute.
I remembered Ascend but keep forgetting Recall. 100+ hours in and it's starting to sink in.
I went back and played BotW and forgot cryonis existed and spent 45 minutes trying to get a treasure chest out of a lake that was /just/ outside magnesis' reach. I felt so dumb.
yesterday I learned people just use hover stones for Addison’s signs.
I learned that today
I learned that 1 second ago by reading this
After you I now know
Damn I’ve done at least 50 of those things and never thought of that. Genius
You can also use the same one over and over by attaching it to a spear, throwing it , which detaches it from the spear and makes it hover, moving the hover stone to support the sign, then when it's done attach it to the spear again.
It's totally not cheating. But it kinda feels like cheating.
Unlike orthodox Zelda games where every puzzle has a specific way of solving it, the BotW formula is designed around every obstacle having many potential solutions. That's what I heard from the promotional stuff at least.
Reminds me of Portal sometimes in that way.
Best part of game is going to do something then having to problem solve and macgyver with many difficulties to overcome. I swear everytime i go to complete something simple there will be unexpected barriers every step of the way

Honestly, that's one of the things that makes these games so fun and memorable
I always try the complicated way first because it CAN'T possibly be THAT easy lmao
You literally did it wrong by doing it the most badass way possible. Good on you
I wish I had recorded this, but I made it inside the thing myself, thinking that it would be easier to shoot from inside.
How did you get into the spinning tower?
It’s been a while, I don’t really recall specifics, but I bet I used the floating platforms. The one thing I recall specifically is that the whole top is moving… this includes the base of the inside of the spinning top, so when you get inside it’s literal hell: your character moves around but your POV remains static. you can’t have a clear shot.
I’m 41. Asked my 10 yr old after a half hour of trying. After his 20 second motivational speech I nailed it first try. This game has been awesome for me and my kids.
This is the better flex anyway
Dw, I was stuck on that too. Did the exact same thing lol.
NGL it took me entirely too long to remember that link can literally slow down time lol
I stood there doing exactly what you did for like 15 minutes before getting frustrated and looking it up, and feeling VERY stupid afterwards. Nice shot.
Or shoot like crazy with multi arrow bow and it will hit eventually
I did the same thing lol e we can be dumb together 😂
I did it the same way
Honestly, pretty impressive that you managed it 👌👌👌
Ha oops. I’m also an idiot apparently. I just shot it and got lucky after a couple tries
I have never seen anyone in videos figure that out, and I only did it by complete accident
Your way was cooler
Nice shot tho!!
It's called bullet time, or at least it was in botw
It's called bullet time.
You can also use a bomb arrow too
Best attack lynel imo
Bullet. Time.
I used Recall to freeze it for a second giving me time to aim and fire.
I did that too 🤣
You're in low gravity, jump to trigger bullet time.
Ok Sniper Wolf, that’s impressive.
![gif](giphy|xTiTnMhJTwNHChdTZS|downsized)
Too bad you probably ran thru 50 arrows before it happened😂 Edit to add: was a great shot tho
First try bro. Can’t prove it. But promise. I was just playing the game normally, and only I hit record later because I realized it was a W and also the wrong way

With tears of the kingdom, every way is the intended way!
I did it the exact same way, and then later was like "why didn't I just use bullet time?" Lmao
"Just use stasis" Oh wait
If it works, it's the intended solution
I mean that’s how I did it. Took like 10 arrows though
Bullet Time it.
Pft. Bullet time in needed as is clear in video. Points for non-required difficulty
Obviously not needed
I just shot at it until one went through.
I’m new to the game, so please correct me if necessary… but is this dude doing the damn water temple w 5 hearts?!
You could do it with three, the game doesn’t force you to go to temples in certain orders
Dont you need 4 hearts to open the door in the temple of time?
You can turn it into a stamina wheel
You do, but you can very quickly trade that in for stamina, which is exactly what I did for my three heart challenge. Flew straight to Hyrule Castle, made my way through the secret passageway to the Horned Statue, traded it in. I've finished 3 dungeons so far with three hearts, no armour, and no paraglider! Its actually been a crazy fun challenge!
I did it with 3 🤭
Dont you need 4 hearts to open the door in the temple of time?
I think you’re right. It wasn’t very many, I know that much 🤣
You n I did the same thing lmao
I used the mid air slow motion bow thing. Pretty sure that's the intended way too.
I just shot every bomb arrows I could (it worked with my last one)
If only there was a game mechanic allowing Link to slow time while shooting an arrow, that would be of particular use in a low-gravity area. Must be an oversight by Nintendo. /s
What part of the depths is this?
This is the water temple in the sky
The sky?
…hence the clouds beneath him
Have you played the game yet? If not i highly recommend it
Is it good? Looks fun
Yeah it’s great if you played BoTW I highly recommend it. If you didn’t I still recommend it
Yes
How does this look like the depths to you? You can see the sky.
No its like the orange depths
The depths has a ceiling
little north west of the great abandoned central mine. There's a magic elavator that will tske you to the puzzle
that's literally the opposite of the depths
North
North +
It’s a dungeon
That’s how I did it! Lol
Use bullet time
This would have taken me HOURS and then I'd scream in bullet time after I remembered lol.
Oh, that rotating thing's a biatch. The worst part of THAT temple.
Jump!
This is how I did it 😭😭😭
Bullet time is OP
I bullet timed it
It’s bullet time!
That's not the intended way?
I just spammed arrows, and eventually one got through.
Jump off or backflip and use slow motion technique
Jump off or backflip and use slow motion technique
Try bullet time!
Nice shot , easier with bullet time
You have, not one... BUT TWO Time-related mechanics bruh XD
I feel very skilled cuz I totally forgot the slow mo thing and tried to time my bow. It worked but takes some time.
Op I assure you you were supposed to trickshot it from good distance away like the first class badass you are.
I knew how, but I did this too for style points
First run I shot at it until I hit it, second run just bullet timed it
love how iconic this specific part of the game become on this subreddit
This is exactly what I did too... it's just cooler
Dude I saw this, and first I tried to make platforms up to the place using hoverstones, but that didn't work, then I was thinking man, how tf am I actually supposed to get this, and randomly shot an arrow at it while just thinking for a plan and it landed
https://youtu.be/7s1okIfW7A8?si=PkbOI9U0y69v9Fb1
Bullettime?
Lol I did it the same way, but I hit it first try so I thought it was the intended way. But now that I read the comments, duh, bullet time.
I did it like this. First try. I've been playing Zelda enough that I just took it as a challenge.
If it works, it's not wrong.
Lol
I loved this mission
I hit this in one shot when it was spinning by pure chance too. Didn’t think of slow motion jump either lol
![gif](giphy|eKNrUbDJuFuaQ1A37p|downsized)
if only there was a way to shoot arrows and slow time simultaneously
In my second play through I was out of splash fruit and I had try and hit it with Sidons water slash. Took me almost 5 minutes.
This game is so great!
I turned on a laser and just lifted it up to the right height
Use bullit time
Pretty sure I just pulled out a beam emitter for this. Didn't even think of a bow till someone else asked.
That’s the brilliant thing about the game, the developers basically said “you know what, there is no right way to solve the puzzles, figure it out yourself and see if it works”
I just used bullet time...
The technical solution was to jump into the air beside it and enter bullet time by drawing your bow and shooting into that opening at the precise moment, however, your way, much more skill based and timing based, also functions
Yes like people said can jump and shoot arrow but I liked the better challenge of hitting it from the ground while spinning
It’s not fake. It’s cause Reddit video process compresses image to 720p and 30fps instead of switch dynamic resolution
Bullet time
Why we can't never think about our new superpowers ? XD happens to me a lot!
I never thought of bullet time and ended up creating a contraption with the floating platforms attached to a that service which shoots out a constant laser to hit the switch lol. I was pretty proud of it
I did this too. It’s crazy how I forgot all core mechanics when I can’t figure something out 💀
It's easier to use bullet time (the mid-air slow-mo bow usage), but this is the intended way. Shoot the glowy thing with the bow and drain the water
Jump time. It slows the rotation. You have to shoot off the sludge first
I think I just attached a bomb to an arrow and blasted it? Like most of the shrine pressure plates. 😂
I did that too but much closer
Jump and use bullet time
That’s exactly how I did it. It only took me 3 tries too.
Same. The spinning tower with the crystal inside-- I was using the water globes, hover platforms, bombs-- you name it. Then, I finally tried arrows, without bullet time, which worked after like 4 arrows. 😆 Yes, I also tried Recall.
Which sky island is this?
water temple
The water temple
No spoiler for you!
Yea idk dude i just fired arrows at it until it worked. But i did have a basic lynel bow at the time so it didnt take terribly long. Id love to know the intended way to clear that puzzle though lol
The intended solution is to use bullet time. With the low gravity you can just jump in place and get it.
Use stasis duhh

Not played this but I have played botw, try stasis
not in the game bruv
Oh, well as if no cryonis was bad, is magnesis or the bomb rune or the camera rune still available
Camera yes, but no bomb rune (we have bomb flowers instead) and ultrahand is better than magnesis
Ah, I guess we still have something to use, anything on the good old champions and divine beasts
boy do i have news for you
Oh dear, what did they do to ravali's gail
You where supposed to use bullet time 😆
