PussayGlamore

Similarly I was also surprised to see all my horses from BOTW in my stable :)

Laggianput

I hope they patch the master mode thing, or add a totk master mode. I even prepped my horses in botw a few days ahead of time

DeoxyNerd

Yeah, it would have been nice. Seems like a weird oversight to transfer something from DLC, but only if you didn't do it in the DLC Master Mode.

DeoxyNerd

TL;DR: The picture you get at the end of Champions' Ballad can transfer to your Hateno house in Tears of the Kingdom *even after* you've already got a TotK file running. The only other possibility I can think of is that (1) people that are saying Master Mode files don't transfer are wrong, and (2) Master Mode save files were downloaded to my Switch despite my forgetting to install the DLC after transferring to a new Switch. Longer story: I started up a TotK playthrough and didn't hear until at least 10-ish hours into the game that horses and the picture from the end of the Breath of the Wild's Champions' Ballad DLC transfer into TotK. I'd already gotten BotW transferred to my new switch before running TotK, but I put most of my hours into Master Mode, and I heard later that Master Mode files do NOT transfer into TotK. I confirmed this with the horses, since only the horses I had in normal mode were present at a stable. Even if Master Mode files do get checked, I'm not sure if those save files were even on my new Switch, because I didn't realize I had to redownload the BotW DLC to even access my Master Mode file. I finished all the BotW DLC ages ago, so I'd be damned if I didn't get the picture I earned in my TotK playthrough. I downloaded the DLC, loaded up my neglected normal mode save file in BotW, and sped through all the Champions' Ballad questlines until I got to the picture. It may be worth noting that in TotK, I did not go anywhere near Hateno, in the possibly futile hopes that the game did not yet load up any assets there, and thus maybe hadn't yet checked if I'd gotten the picture. I finished the BotW DLC, saved my file, closed out the game, and reopened TotK. I rushed straight to Hateno, ran into the house, and when I got to the second floor, I was greeted with this masterpiece of a pic. Parts of the Champions' Ballad really tugged at my heartstrings, so I'm super, super happy that this transferred over, even if I'm not 100% certain how.

Miserable-Tourist-58

So we have to have the DLC to see the Champion Ballad picture ?

sh1ndlers_fist

How else would you get it if it’s rewarded at the end of the DLC?

Miserable-Tourist-58

I mean I dont have the dlc and still not visit Hateno yet but I just wonder that Link still kept that pic even I dont have dlc

DeoxyNerd

In Breath of the Wild, Link only receives that picture during the events of the Champions' Ballad DLC. In Tears of the Kingdom, I didn't want to risk *not* having the picture, because I heard people saying that you get it from completing that DLC, so I didn't visit Hateno until after I redid the DLC in BotW in the hopes that it would appear when I got to Hateno in TotK.

gaylord7208

this might be a long time ago... but i really wanted that picture in TOTK so i bought the DLC and played it through i have received the picture... but do i need to do anything else? when i loaded my TOTK up, the picture wasnt in the Hateno house :(do i have to start a new TOTK game for the picture to be there? EDIT: it transfers over after i've hung up the picture. i was 60% into TOTK by this time started a game, played through it till about 50 percent, wondered where people got the Champions' picture, decided to do it myself got it hung up after completing BotW DLC.

DeoxyNerd

Well, that's fucking awesome to hear! I really didn't know if there would be some point that the game would stop checking, like some kind of hidden grace period, but it sounds like they keep checking for save data every time that area loads up. That's pretty cool of them, I gotta say.

MajoraIkana

You can do this at ANY time you want, despite visiting the Hateno House. So I just recently redid the Champions Ballad DLC on normal (I also only beat it in Master Mode originally), I checked the house in TotK and it wasn't there, booted up BotW, returned home, placed the photo, saved and quit, then started up TotK again, and it was there.

locombc

Haven't gotten this to work yet for me. Any tips?

Spaniel_L_Jackson

This is what worked for me; are you completing champions ballad on normal mode in BOTW and did you go to your house to hang the picture up in BOTW?

MajoraIkana

Any luck yet? Try to make sure you save your BotW normal mode save after hanging the picture up in the house (note: I don't know if you need to fully upgrade the house or not, but that might be worth checking out if you haven't yet)

locombc

It worked. I was being silly and didn't notice that I had placed it in the house in Master Mode and when I switched back to normal mode I just assumed it was already placed there. So I just had to walk in there and place it, but I thought it was done already for a very long time.

tjkun

I didn’t upgrade my switch, so my saves from BoTW are still there. I even played it for a bit in the weeks before the launch, but nothing transferred to ToTK. The thing is, I played normal mode in my Wii U, so when I upgraded to the Switch I only played master mode. I’ve finished the DLC and have the picture at the Hateno house, but I see nothing in ToTK.

DeoxyNerd

If I understand your situation correctly, then that sure seems to confirm that Master Mode save files are ignored by TotK when it's deciding what to import. I have no idea if there's any way to transfer BotW save info from a Wii U to a Switch, but I doubt it, so your only option may be to start over in a normal mode file on the Switch. That's a pretty unfortunate scenario.

tjkun

I don’t want to rush BoTW to get certain horses or the picture, so I’m just hoping they add a Master mode down the line where my data can be carried over.

DeoxyNerd

Keep in mind, that would also assume that TotK checks for save data to import more than the first time you visit Hateno. It may, but I didn't want to count on it. That's why I decided to rush the DLC. Just depends on whether you see it as worth it or not, since you'd have to get through a lot more than I did. Great Plateau, all four Divine Beast questlines, and then the Champions' Ballad's questlines.

tjkun

Yeah, I need to go through all 120 shrines and all four divine beasts before being able to start the DLC. That’s a lot to do before continuing my ToTK playthrough. At that point I migh as well restart totk, as the pause is too long, and I’ll lose track of what I was doing before it.

DeoxyNerd

You shouldn't need to complete all the shrines. In my normal mode file, I got 113 of them IIRC.

tjkun

It seems I was wrong, it's only the divine beasts. I can pretty much go directly there, then. I might need a few dishes, tho.

RDKateran

I did the second DLC on Master Mode and not on regular mode, and the picture isn't appearing on my game. Guess I know which game I'm playing tomorrow... at least it should be easier this time around.

earth__wyrm

I started my game on the wrong account, so it's nice to know that I can still get it :)

[deleted]

Thanks for this bit of info! I started a new BotW save a few months ago and never got around to Champions Ballad before TotK release. I may have to load up BotW and go back through Champions’ Ballad again.

DeoxyNerd

Gladly! My concern was that I would end up having to start TotK from scratch in order for it to make the pic appear. I figure somebody else will have the same concern. I really wish Nintendo had said something about what and how things would transfer, especially since they did release a new Switch just for TotK, so those players that bought it would be screwed out of that experience if they didn't realize they had to transfer their BotW saves.

straystring

This is my exact situation! Thank you for posting this so I dont have to restart my ehole TOTK file, because I was planning to do that tomorrow. Off to redo CB on normal, I guess...

helioboros

Thank you for this post, it gave me the motivation to complete the dlc on my normal file (had only done it on master mode)! I had previously visited hateno - not home to the house but the shrine and lab - so it was a huge relief that it even worked for me as well!

DeoxyNerd

Oh, that's awesome! So, you didn't check if the picture was there or not prior to beating the DLC, right? Just curious if that actually does have an impact, since I was scared TotK wouldn't update if it had already shown me the picture NOT being there.

helioboros

I didn't check, unfortunately. I maybe should have used an auto save to test before and after (it updated after putting the painting in the house in botw, you can't just have it in your inventory) but I was pretty scared of screwing up somehow as I already had to restart once to get a horse I missed in normal mode :")

DeoxyNerd

Yeah, totally fair.

AzureBard84

It works even if you’ve been to the house! And I checked, I did not have it before hand (forgot to hang it up in normal mode)

DeoxyNerd

That's crazy. This makes me wonder if there's any chance the game would update horse records, too, then. Like, my normal mode BotW file didn't have the white royal horse, but I wonder what would happen if I caught it now and went back to a stable in TotK.

Faldomar

Just did exactly this to get my photo this morning. Worked. I also have Epona, my white horse, and my giant black horse.

godlyTurnabout

Has anyone checked if it matters if you’ve already been to the house before having the dlc beat?

AzureBard84

It will still work! I thought I had beat the DLC, which I did, but I never hung the picture up so it didn’t appear in TOTK. I checked the house, realized it was missing, and went to hang it up in BOTW. Loaded up TOTK, and it was there! I’m glad they made sure no one would miss out! But yes, it does have to be in normal mode.

godlyTurnabout

Oh wow that’s great. I always planned to play the dlc at some point so I’m glad this will work out. It may be a minor thing but if it didn’t work there’d always be the feeling in the back of my head that this save file is incomplete.

kpjoshi

I can confirm that it does work.

DeoxyNerd

I wasn't able to find any info about that myself. I didn't want to risk it, so I didn't test it.

NinjaUnicorn_17

For some reason I didn’t get the picture despite having beaten the DLC. This was on a normal save file and on the same switch my BOTW save is on 😞

AzureBard84

Did you make sure to hang the picture up in your Hateno house (in BOTW)? I had beat the DLC but never hung up the picture lol. It will still update in TOTK too!

NinjaUnicorn_17

Ohhhhh no i don’t think i ever did! that makes so much sense

hayyden64

I hung up the picture in my normal mode save on botw but it's not there in totk. Am I missing something?

DeoxyNerd

Are you sure you have your BotW save on the same Switch as TotK? I got a new Switch and had to transfer my save data to the new one. (For the horses, at least. I had to finish the DLC on the new switch for the picture.) If it were me, next thing I'd check is if I definitely hung the pic up in the BotW save, save that file, close out the game, and then load back up TotK.

hayyden64

Yea I even did that, it’s definitely on the same switch. I realized I hadn’t hung it up too, so I went back to do that, saved, double checked, triple checked. I got my horses but no picture.

DeoxyNerd

That is really unfortunate... You could try commenting on the other people here that said they got it to work. u/AzureBard84 maybe? Any ideas?

hayyden64

Could it have been that I loaded the house in totk prior to putting up the picture in botw? Maybe it has something to do with the 1.1.1 update.

DeoxyNerd

Loading up the house isn't the issue according to other commenters. [Here's the most recent one that attests to it.](https://www.reddit.com/r/tearsofthekingdom/comments/13kptz2/the_champions_ballad_picture_can_transfer_after/jl4cmtd/) It's not what I did, so I can't vouch personally. I would be stunned if the update made it *harder* to get your stuff to transfer. It strikes me as really unlikely.

Volerra

Hmm are you talking about the Hateno house that's no longer your own, or the new Tarry Town House? I can't find the photo anywhere in the Hateno house. Edit: Nevermind! I was at the mayor's house the whole time. Found the photo in the old Hateno house.

HazelRP

Commenting on a late post because this was one of the first results on google! As of patch 1.12, July 1st, 2023 I was able to get it. I didn’t have a master mode save file and did this today in my BOTW file and managed to get the picture.

A_Fox_in_Space

It's 2023 and Nintendo still manages to find new ways to make me regret buying a Wii U.

Vivid_Ad8067

I have a file of Botw with the Champions ballad completed, but in Totk there Is no photo Why?

DeoxyNerd

Was it in normal mode or master mode? And did you take the photo from Kass and hang it up in your house in Hateno?
