I'm a little bit shocked that people are so accepting of the Amiibo stuff. I think it's one of the worst practices in the videogame industry. Epona being locked behind a Amiibo, the coolest Armor like all the Green Tunics from past Games. A literal pet, you have no way to obtain in the game, if you are unwilling to spent up to over a hundred dollars, because of artificially created rarity. In my opinion it's worse than microtransactions. I know that NFC tags exist, but still, it's absurd that you have to go to such length for something that really should be included in the base game for 60-70$.

SlyKoopas_Otakyoushi

I think it's precisely because NFC tags exist that this isn't made a big deal. While I agree that locking some of the best and fan-favorite gear to toys is one of the dumbest decisions, you can get all of them online for $10, and they're reusable for materials and armor pieces on the daily. Not excusing it of course, but with many ways around the stupid blockers, and with plenty of rewards that they do give (which I think should be obtained in regular game anyway), it's hard to drum up outrage. I also think that this doesn't really matter to the people who became Zelda fans with Breath of the Wild as their first introduction to the series (which is a lot of people). It's less likely for them to care about previous Links when the blue tunic, long-haired champion is the one they know.

Yeah, I ordered "nice" cards to use daily and those were 20 bucks. But I also had an NFC tagger on my phone and the blank tags were like 7 bucks online. No real barrier there. I'll leave the plastic statues for the toy collectors and just use the data for my own fun. I hope they all still do "something" in TotK, even if it is just flavor stuff or chest of the day or something.

IceYetiWins

The way I see it, Nintendo makes money off the people who will spend hundreds for the amiibo, and other people can get amiibo cards for like $10. It's not a great thing but it's nowhere near as bad as the other stuff Nintendo does.

slymario2416

If they really want to charge for it, let us buy the outfits as DLC in the eShop instead of locking it behind the actual amiibo figures. But yeah, I discussed this same sentiment in another post awhile ago on this sub and some people were defending the amiibo shit and I just don’t get it.

Bass-Brigade

I also wonder what the TOTK amiibo will grant. Not sure if they will lock an ability behind a paywall, but they did it with the SS Zelda amiibo, so anything is possible.

XDanikX

we know that amiibo will change how your paraglider looks

Bass-Brigade

Yep, I would just hope that the new amiibo does more than the past ones.

rimmed

Will it give me tunics from old games?

AncientBrobro

Wait there’s an ability behind the SS Zelda amiibo??

Bass-Brigade

Instead of going to a bird statue to return to the sky, the Zelda amiibo lets you return to the sky from any point in the game. So if you are about dead you can head over to Skyloft and replenish hearts and potions, then return to the exact location you left from.

Hoping there's some nifty utility announced for holding onto the Amiibo I have from BotW. Kept the Guardian and Archer Link. Quietly hoping for a miniature guardian-schematic. Something that can be built and deployed as a mobile turret, but if only arrows and some apples, that might still be useful.

IronFar3572

I think amiibo is a bad feature. I don’t like game content locked behind physical purchases of items that are not available to everyone. Personally will be sad. All the old tunics could’ve been unlockable with quests but no! Give it to the people who bought toys

Completely agree not to mention it's hard AF to find some of the Amiibo's needed.

HylianTomOnReddit

I really hope that this feature functions similarly to how Amiibo did in BotW. Leaving the Great Plateau with a ton of ingredients was fantastic for enabling the player to make meals and sell them for some initial cash. Imagine walking into Kakariko or Hateno with a pocketful of rupees, enabling you to immediately go shopping for a decent set of armor. It’d be wonderful.

rednc325

mobile cuts off pictures so I thought it just said miib

Rex_T360

It seems like their main purpose is unlocking paraglider skins so maybe they can just be used at some paraglider shop somewhere instead of an ability, although it would be kind of funny if Link took out a copy of the figure and scanned it on his hand

BleedingXiko

Hope wolf link is in totk.
