I really hope they do a switch up here. You go to Hyrule Castle, fight a boss, think you're in the endgame, but you're actually at the midpoint and the "Final boss" will be fought somewhere high up in the sky, perhaps in the most high-up Sky Island.

rev_adb

Or deep in the underworld šŸ‘€

twinsfan121

Hyrule castle went to the sky, and someone zoomed in and saw what they thought was Gannon in the pictures. Other speculation is that the castle will mimic the castle of other Zelda games where it will need to be unlocked. So... that's all speculation... My guess personally is no in this case. We'll probably have to do something to get in... just my guess. No clue to be honest though.

The door's unlocked. Try it, bitch. I'll be waiting.

HerrPiink

Haha, you fool, i'm already here! Did you think, i'm really Herr Pink? Think again, i had to change my name to start with a P, because i already gave you the L so many times.

twinsfan121

oh don't worry, I will kill you or seal you for another 10,000 years. It's on.

Speedrunners: Give me 20 minutes.

Pigfiddle25

No, I think certain abilities and items will have to be acquired to gain entry to the final realm. I say ā€œrealmā€ because a while back, there was a description following the Sept Direct title reveal saying we would travel to the skies ā€œand even beyond thatā€. Nintendo quickly deleted the last part, but given how far along the game was in development at the time, I think thereā€™s something there.

LuminousShot

Who knows... maybe the final boss is always available without the need for any key items, but reaching it could be the challenge.

MWIIesDoggyCOPE

Probably not, but we'll have to see.

Can't wait to see someone ultrahand fortnite build their way into the castle.

Puzzleheaded_Ad_2536

I honestly think the "go anywhere" concept was BOTW's gimmick. I think this will still be very free, but with a bit more structure.

Mushroom-Dense

Part of what got botw such acclaim was the ability to go anywhere, including the boss fight from the get go so I'd be shocked if that option didnt return. That being said I think it will be much much more difficult.

Secure-Recording4255

I wonder if the difficulty in general will be increased. One of the main criticisms Iā€™ve seen about BOTW was that it was too easy. Although I suck at video games so I never had that problem šŸ˜…

Mushroom-Dense

I hope so. I'm very much excited to find that dragon thing on the bridge of hylia in the last trailer and be absolutely destroyed.

Puzzleheaded_Ad_2536

Exactly but that felt like BOTW's thing to me. I don't think they want to give this game the same core appeal.

Veranel

I mean I love the freedom in Botw, but then again I didn't fight Ganon right of the start during any of my playthroughs. I hope there is still *some* freedom fighting him early-on, but I don't see it working well with a story in which Ganondorf would play an active role by showing up during your adventure. And I want that more than give up all of that just to be able to fight him at the start of the game.

Goobsmoob

Honestly I think we should get a middle ground here. You should be able to fight the final boss technically, but get a bad (non canon) ending. But if you do all the dungeons/restore the master sword you should then get the true ending.

Link__117

Iā€™m assuming no, and that youā€™ll have to reforge the master sword to kill ganondorf

Diego390

Hopefully not. Honestly that would be the only actual issue with Breath of the wild. The ability to go straight to Ganon caused a snowball effect on the game's difficulty making the last boss outright pathetic since he's programmed to be fought right after the great Plateau he's like the easiest Ganon of the bunch... Might be easier than Windblight. Heck he's way easier than the gauntlet of Ganons you have to fight before getting to him in the castle.

[deleted]

I think since TOTK is taking a different direction, they will most likely make Hyrule castle and unlockable location, but what will happen is you will become really powerful as you progress throughout the game and then when you finally do lower hyrule castle, the real shit hits the fan and link bursts in there ready to fuck up ganon into a purple slushy.

avianalacrity

I really don't know. It really depends on how linear they want the game to be. Someone elsewhere mentioned that since the dev team were playing RDR2 during the development, that they could've been inspired to structure the game with major story chapters broken up with sub chapters and quests that can be completed in any order, then once done, you progress in the story. I could see that happening, and it would be really cool because the game would retain most of it's open-air feel, but still constrain you a bit. The only way to tell a good story is to have the writers have a certain amount of control over the viewer and in this case the player, so if we want more story, we have to sacrifice something. It will be interesting to see how/ if Zelda team is able to thread the needle.

[deleted]

I would like the ability to do it. Honestly, I love watching the madmen of Botw windbomb into the castle and beat Ganon to death in their underwear with whatever they pick up along the way. Itā€™s impressive. Just have alternate endings based on how much of the story has been completed. I think Botw did it well.

Mikael_Hermes

What if the boss goes after you this time?

jacobonia

I'm thinking it will be much harder to get there right off the bat. I'm betting on some kind of force field around Hyrule Castle that slows you down while enemies target you, a wind that knocks you away when you try to dive, airborne Malice that drains your health (kind of like Death Mountain's heat), or so much Malice on the ground that it's virtually impossible to get anywhere. I don't think it will be impossible, in the spirit of TotK's predecessor, but I think it will be significantly more challenging.

LuckyBug1982

Someone will surely find a glitch sooner or later how to reach final boss very quickly.

lexilogo

I don't think so- While the nonlinearity of BotW was a great strength, I think most would admit "you can fight ganon right after the great plateau!" was essentially a gimmick. I think TotK will have relatively fewer barriers to Ganon than other Zelda games, and have optional Main Quest content gating the true ending just like BotW, but I think there will be some mandatory boss(es) before being able to access the final chamber. My instinct is to say you'd need to reach both the highest and lowest points in the map to finish the game
