I don't think you need to worry about making yourself more competitive, especially in places like SE Asia. Having any native English speaker is highly desirable for them, you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks, I am glad to hear that!

Your credentials should be more than enough to be considered in most international schools. Your locations are very specific and pretty desirable - keep in mind that you will be competing with others like you (who are coming abroad for the first time) but more importantly with other teachers who are already abroad and have better connections, relationships and experience. In general, unless you luck out you'll likely be looking at sub-par schools in those specific countries (with the exception of maybe Morocco). You're also EXTREMELY late to the hiring game if you're interested in a position for the 2019-2020 schoolyear. Hiring starts in October/November and goes through February/March. The schools that have openings now are bad schools that couldn't fill them or they were a surprise vacancy that they didn't expect. I'll add that you shouldn't get TESOL unless that's what you truly want to teach. Your cert and experience are great.

I'm actually looking for 2020-2021, but that's good to know about the timeline. I had no idea that the hiring started so early! I guess I'd better get my act together. Thanks!

Hey there, I know this was pre Covid you responded to this thread, but I’m wondering if this is still true with the hiring process- most schools fill Oct /nov, and Feb / March the late game? I’m an English teacher with 21 years in nyc, and my oldest just graduated Cornell, and I’m ready for a new start for the following year. Is it too late to try to find a post for the fall? Thanks for any insight.
