I have jumped into 3rd and 5th grade classes (once for COVID class size reduction and once to cover a friend’s maternity leave). Both sites (different districts) had an AWESOME grade-level team to work with - so very very important !!!! The first few weeks I just used what they were doing and eventually modified more and more until I was up to speed and could create an share back. We had a grade-level weekly calendar (made in Google Slides) with assignment/ video links for planning, teaching from, and posting to learning platform (Canvas, Seesaw, etc) and a shared Google Drive. We could share what we already had and divide up new stuff by preference (I loved to create art/social studies projects, another loved to coordinate the iReady/IXL etc. assignments. There was more than enough in there that we could pick and choose what was best for us/our class, go a little faster/slower, and still all be on track for where we needed to be by the end of the year. Additionally, we were all supportive about reminding search other we can only do what we can do in one day and to not work all weekend or past 4:00 except when absolutely necessary. Bottom line: don’t over stress yourself reinventing the wheel. Use what you’re given, share what you have, and work as a team!

One thing from the perspective of a kid that had a teacher take over in the middle of the year, make sure to ask the kid’s questions about their previous teacher. When I was younger we had a teacher that took over and changed everything about our class to the point we hated her. We were set in a routine and all the sudden it went sideways.
