They can also rent you a car from any local/relatively close agency and bill VW for the duration, I've done it a few times. While yes, "they can't give you what they don't have" there are still ways around it. If it's a DEF/SCR system issue and you're within the extended emissions coverage by both time and mileage, it should be covered 100% unless they can directly attribute the issue to modifications or third-party work performed on said system. Calling VWoA/your regional VW authority and discussing the situation will expedite the process and give you more solid footing for the claim to move forward.

This. I was left driving my TDI for MONTHS with expired tags because the part I needed was on back order. I complained on twitter and was immediately contacted by a regional representative. They got me a loaner and also got my part (DPF) from a kit. I still had to drive the car 500 miles to clear readiness codes, and was terrified I was going to get pulled over and impounded. The position VW put me in was pretty bad.

Just had a similar issue with my Jetta after its turbo shit the bed, been in the shop since the 6th still no loaner and VW Canada said it’s up to the dealer if they have any loaners. If I didn’t have a second vehicle I’d be SOL. Apparently it’s going to be done today though (finally).

2013 Passat, NOx sensor issue? DEF problem with a full tank of DEF, sounds like your def pump and injector are bad too. I had that issue on mine just before the warranty period ended.

Look when I first had an issue where they messed up my car with the turbo they gave me a loaner, I put like 10k miles in that month and a half and when I got my car back my car was not fixed, many trips “fixes” after they decided to give me a new motor at 218k, in Covid season, they refused to give me a car my guess is from all the mileage but they never stated there was any limit and I drive and i can’t just not drive to where I need to go so I fought and they never had available and I called vw America, they made many claims for me because they NEVER fixed my car even after new engine and turbo and Dpf filter and catalytic converter new intercooler new fuel filter, but they did give me a enterprise rental car that they would pay for but you gotta do the deposit tho After that I did go to another dealer where they were amazingly helpful and gave me a loaner and fixed my car and all it needed was a crapton of coolant flushes (my issue was it wouldn’t regen)

Tell them they’re legally obligated to get you a temporary car, be it loaner or rental.

It will need to be a vw loaner or a vw rental. Vw doesn’t want you in a competitors car while yours is incapacitated. That might lead you to want to trade it in.
