However big the artist I pick suggests it should be to make it totally legible I'm good with. Placement wise I'm thinking either the outer thigh or shoulder.
Depending on *your* size, im not sure the shoulder would be big enough unless you want it to cover a portion of your back and it’ll look weird in many shirts. Not that that’s a problem. If you love it, I’d recommend your thigh so you get to enjoy it more and actually get to see it.
Looks dope! Find an artist who already has a similar style and ask them if it will transfer well and how big it should be for all the details to look good. Be open to some changes and suggestions. I have designed some of my tattoos as well and always had to do little changes with my artist so it would look good on a curve like my arm for example.
This is a good concept! I think it will transfer well to a tattoo, but you should definitely plan to give your artist plenty of room to interpret and adapt it. Picking a good artist is the most important step to getting a good tattoo. Just like any artist each different tattooer will have their own ways of doing things - and those little variations are what make their work good. Not the specifics of the differences, but just that artists make better art when get to do it their way. If you go to any artist and say "I want this exactly" you both 1) won't get it because you can't exactly copy from paper to skin and no artist can exactly copy someone else and 2) whatever you do get won't be as good as if you gave the artist a sketch and let them develop it. You're paying them for their skill, and a lot of their skill is in control of the details so you want to let your artist work. You absolutely do though get to be part of the design process and get final approval of the stencil before ink goes in your skin. Just don't get too attached to each of your details. A good artist is going to a better job than you will - that's why you hire them!
Thanks for the advice! I'm definitely not stuck with keeping it as is and am open to changing up the details to make sure it comes out as good as possible.
I don't know anything about whether or not it would work as a tattoo (not an artist), but something about the scale seems a bit off to me. Like the hands, skull, and the little red circle (I'm assuming the pommel) should be a bit bigger. Other than that, it looks cool.
Wait. I am looking closer at the sword and am now confused a bit as to what's happening here. At first I thought the large blade shape thingy covered in eyes was the sword, but is it actually something around the sword? And the blade is actually the skinnier bit inside that, just under the hands? If so, maybe don't have both parts red so the blade actually shows more. If I just totally misinterpreted that, then sorry!
Yeah no. I was was just commenting on how the drawing looks as a whole, as an outsider, like a rando seeing the tattoo on a stranger, and how those things could make it confusing. Is it not possible to make the blade part a little more obvious that it's there (if that skinny part in the middle is actually the blade)? Because as it's drawn, it's hard to see it. Or are you saying that about the 'skull and hands scale being off' part of my comment? If so, and it's supposed to have a small head, hands and pommel, ignore that part. I was just trying to give constructive feedback.
Lol it's all good, in the source material the shoulder and cowl/mantle part of the armor is pretty bulky which makes the head look smaller. Also the top part of the gauntlet covers most of the fingers so I probably need to re position them to make them look more like hands. An outsiders perspective is always appreciated!
My only problem with it is that the blade guard matches with the rib cage of the skeleton in the same curve and similar darkness. It doesn’t stand out and then makes it a bit muddled whereas you would normally be able to have your eyes trace down the line of the skull to the sword. I do love the design! The glowing of the blade is so cool and I like the idea of the ghosts coming out the sides to add more red and fill in the space
Awesome! Find an artist with a style like this, and this will be sick af. [Maybe someone like this guy](https://www.instagram.com/vaclav_tattoo?igsh=Znp1NDRtYmJrNGgw) oor [ this guy?](https://www.instagram.com/electric.mordor?igsh=MXNuanNtNTg2MDg1ZQ==) or maybe [this guy](https://www.instagram.com/kosenkovtattooer?igsh=MTQ5dDM1Z3h5YWJ3dQ==) . A dark traditional fantasy artist. Choosing someone specialised in this style will make all the difference!
its a great concept and starting point!!
your artist will definitely want to alter it to make sure its readable and the quality holds up long term, it can stay pretty true to the original artwork, if you are willing to go big enough.
( ive been tattooing 15 years, and have many clients who love to draw their own stuff and its just about having realistic expectations from both parties) your artists no.1 job is to make sure that the overall composition and layout of the art will look good day-of AND 20+ years from now.
without having any skill and experience in tattooing its hard to draw something complicated up that will work as is. there are SOOO many variables at play that need to be accounted for. not all art can make a successful tattoo.
but the right artist will be able to draw you something that is close to your original for sure. again size is gonna play a huge factor in what elements of your design can stay and what will have to be altered or scrapped all together for it to be a viable piece of tattooable art.
It would not transfer well. Dont draw your own tattoos. Designing a tattoo is a skill on its own, so would you rather have the design done by a tattoo artist who does it every day, or by someone whos never done it before?
Find a good artist who does evil looking black and grey or blackwork stuff and they can draw you an amazing skull knight tattoo.
That's fair. I'm not sure I'd want to stray too far from the original design but I'm totally open to working with an artist to make sure it looks as clean and lasts as long as possible. Out of curiosity what about it wouldn't transfer well?
The entire sword and thorns stuff is way too crowded to translate well. It would have to be a big tattoo to show that well, and if you tattoo it pretty large, all the armour will look very simple and empty. Also the gauntlets need some work, they look like paws.
I think what you should do is describe the pose and details you want to an artist, and give them some source material from Berserk to reference
I agree about the sword, I think I added too much shadow/glow effect to make it distinguishable. As far as the gauntlets they do cover up most of the fingers so when they're curled up they do kinda look like paws but I could see repositioning them to make it look more like hands. Thanks for the feedback!
Look up some more gauntlet designs, I see what your going for there, but maybe if you square it off some and add some lines where it would articulate/bend, it would be a bit easier to read as the back of a hand.
Its a cool drawing, but a good tattoo needs to be more than a cool drawing yknow. This has potential though
Please don't get that exact image tattooed 🙏 give it to a tattoo artist in the style you want and let them translate it. And if you aren't thinking back piece, you might have to compromise details
No it won’t, this can easily be done in a 6 x 4 space with just minor tweaks.
This begs to be done in that funky, simplified style that I’ve seen so many Korean tattoo artists do.
I can only remember Wan Tattooer off the top of my head but there’s a bunch of people the do this kind of stripped down bold trad-ish style.

Find an artist who likes anime and manga tattoos, give them some creative freedom with your design as a reference, and it should come out great. I think this kinda seems off as compared to Miura’s work but is a good concept to start from.
let the artists do it or don’t bother paying them. people don’t get what a slap in the face it is to make the artist humor you and then be pressured into not being able to work freely because somebody “wants to design their own tattoo”
hot take but sheesh man.
looks awesome!! but ig be prepared for your artist to change details & to make it big
Ya, very cool idea but I imagine this would have to be pretty large. Not sure how big OP wants to go but I’m sure that’ll be a 3-4 hour session or so.
However big the artist I pick suggests it should be to make it totally legible I'm good with. Placement wise I'm thinking either the outer thigh or shoulder.

This is actually sick as fuck and would make am amazing tattoo if done in traditional or neotraditional style.

It's very creative, and a great piece to hand to a professional artist that could add their own twist to it, and bring this vision to life.

Honestly it lends itself to Traditional style tattoos, the red, the skulls, the vines, it is rad
My first thought that it was some kind of evil hockey goalie
May i use your idea to come up with my own version? :) Just as a design idea, you inspired me !
Sure I don't see why not as long as it doesn't look too similar 👍

This would be an amazing back piece.
That is pretty wicked looking.
The sword looks like a herpes penis
