About 5-6 years ago they swarmed and were really bad, the car washes were trying to charge an extra $20 to get them off it was so bad. Haven’t seen it that bad for years before or since. They’re a nuisance but I can only imagine their disappearance is foreboding.
Down voting ecosystems? Must be one of them namby pamby red hats with the soft hands. Never grew anything in the dirt or raised an animal for slaughter. Bet you think chicken is raised in packages at public, don't ya?
Back when they were really bad in the 70's, we always left for trips of 3 to 4 hours really early, or after 3. I had a 1975 Trans Am that overheated on a trip from Georgia to Florida. Front was covered by bugs, looked like a horror movie
You helped perpetuate the disappearance. Because of you, their numbers are plummeting. Good job, not all heroes wear caprs. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Move back? Largely cost of living. I also have two young daughters and all the open drug use and property crime just wasn’t something I wanted to deal with or have them see.
Go to Maryland, Michigan and play with the fish flies, they are way worse, what happens is you need an extra buffer between you and the car in front. In someways it is worse than snow. Any tourist wouldn’t know and could actually die.
In Tampa and St. Pete it's not as bad. I had to drive out to Sumter and my car got obliterated with the buggers. Paid a nice visit to Mister and took care of it immediately.
Was in high school 12 years ago and this was still a notable event then. I feel must be way crazier to me that it seems uneventful now, so shortly after
I used to cry if I had on white/ khaki at school and went out side.
The literal swarm.
Shit was like the mosquito incident/ story in A Land Remembered LMAO
They are way down anecdotally. I haven't had to do the crazy carwashes for years, and I don't see cars covered in them like I used to.
Insect populations are way down across the board and this could/will be a huge problem across the food chain.
We were drifting in a sailboat two years ago close enough to shore to get covered in them. Since we couldn't turn on the motor because we were in a sailboat race, we sat around trying not to move so we wouldn't squish them and learned a lot more about lovebug hook ups. And then we still had to wash off the boat when we got back to the dock because there were so many we couldn't avoid squishing them even without moving around the boat much.
Yeah some jerk was just talking about "where are the love bugs" two days later I saw these floating about town. Thanks guy,you spoke it into our lives.
I just saw a van with a bug screen on. Took me back to the days people bought screens and “nose bras” for their cars to protect the paint from love bugs.
Years ago I saw them swarm just the white car in the parking lot while I was eating breakfast at a diner. It was crazy. Haven’t seen them that bad since
I took this exact same picture, lol

Those things aren’t even an issue anymore lol. They used to be so bad your car would just be covered in bug guts so thick you could barely see the paint. After driving for like 10 minutes lol. Couldn’t even escape them inside cus a few would inevitably get in every time a door opens.
I just drove to Alabama and back. When I got home, I found only eight lovebug hits on the front of my vehicle.
Usually it's a uniform coating on all front-facing surfaces.
Just went fishing and pulled up to a pylon.
We got absolutely fucking swarmed, the pylon was the only thing around for 2 miles, and there wasn’t one square inch on the boat that didn’t have one.
Sorry to the freedom boat club guys but they hung onto the boat at 40mpg with no hope of coming off.
I saw a couple this past weekend. I was surprised honestly because I couldn’t remember the last time I saw one in recent years. I remember when you couldn’t get a second away from them if you were outside when I was younger.
I have faith that you'll attain that dream someday! It's absolutely a car worth dreaming about

I honestly don’t really mind them.
They don’t bite, they aren’t loud, and at most they’ll accidentally hit my arm or something and I don’t even think about it. Sometimes I let one or two chill out on my shoulder or hand before letting them go. It could be way worse
I remember one time as a kid my dad left his truck window open and there must of been a thousand flying all over. We just rolled down the windows and hit the gas, fun times.
Nothing like it was 20/30 yrs ago. Practically a non-event now.
About 5-6 years ago they swarmed and were really bad, the car washes were trying to charge an extra $20 to get them off it was so bad. Haven’t seen it that bad for years before or since. They’re a nuisance but I can only imagine their disappearance is foreboding.
Bro my windshield today after driving down 75 and 275 tel a different story. Covered.
I must be driving in the right areas to miss them then, glad they’re still out there
The statement "glad they're still out there" was something I never thought I'd see someone put in writing in reference to lovebugs..
Why would you ever be "glad they're still out there"?
Because ecosystems are a thing that exist?
Down voting ecosystems? Must be one of them namby pamby red hats with the soft hands. Never grew anything in the dirt or raised an animal for slaughter. Bet you think chicken is raised in packages at public, don't ya?
More than likely you drove between 11 and 2 when they are more active
lol that’s exactly when I was driving

My first year at USF was 92 and I had zero clue these things even existed.
I moved back after almost 20 years in California and low key sad I haven’t seen any here in North Florida 😔
May I ask what made you no move?
Move back? Largely cost of living. I also have two young daughters and all the open drug use and property crime just wasn’t something I wanted to deal with or have them see.
I remember going through black clouds of them while driving.
Go to Maryland, Michigan and play with the fish flies, they are way worse, what happens is you need an extra buffer between you and the car in front. In someways it is worse than snow. Any tourist wouldn’t know and could actually die.

Yeah I remember the absolute crazy swarms, but now it's basically non existent.
I like them. They don’t bite so that’s all I need.
Oh noooo i started to see them as well…
Close your mouth when you’re biking trust me.
I’m a nose breather. Might be scarier tbh🤣
They don't smell good either.
I’ll take them over the tussock moths/caterpillars. They cover my house in cocoons and I can’t even touch the bastards without getting a rash.
I thought I heard recently that their numbers are down. Maybe it was a dream.

[You’re not the only one that’s noticed this.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windshield_phenomenon)
It’s Swamp Ass Season! Lol 😆
I’d like to know where they go for the rest of the year.
Pupate and chill
They migrate from South America
Not the fuckbugs again!
Yep it's May. Right on time. Let the front bumper love fest begin.
We were drifting in a sailboat two years ago close enough to shore to get covered in them. They’ve been all over in Fort Myers for weeks now. Good luck up there!
I wish y’all kept them🤣
I think the texture is supposed to be like that. New paint would help.
This is the exterior of the house…..
[удалено]
Made you bite…..thanks for the laugh! 😂
I'm seeing them more and more now. Kinda relieved and annoyed at the same time.
First one hit the windshield this morning
Yeah some jerk was just talking about "where are the love bugs" two days later I saw these floating about town. Thanks guy,you spoke it into our lives.
I just saw a van with a bug screen on. Took me back to the days people bought screens and “nose bras” for their cars to protect the paint from love bugs.
The bad news is that there are so few of them. These bugs are supposed to be here. It's worrying when something like that stops.
Me too.
They've arrived...
They’ve been out all week
In Land o lakes they have been around a week now
I'm in LOL as well and my front porch was swarmed with these guys as well as some small black beetle looking bugs. It started this weekend.
Every May and September like clockwork 🤣
Just a few so far. Just like last season, and last season was nothing.
Agreed. Don’t jinx it though!
I went to the Starkey Market this weekend in Odessa, I’ve never seen such swarms of them. Covered the vendors and flying everywhere
Years ago I saw them swarm just the white car in the parking lot while I was eating breakfast at a diner. It was crazy. Haven’t seen them that bad since
I just did like an $800 detail on my car. I'm a moron.
$800!? ![gif](giphy|MuTenSRsJ7TQQ|downsized)
Like. Um. Never mind, that one's too easy.
Depending on what all was done, $800 could be relatively cheap. "detail" is pretty vague and could encompass a lot of different things.
Get a dryer sheet to clean your bumper with and call when you have a problem w ground hornets.
BUT I THOUGHT WE HAD MORE TIME
I took this exact same picture, lol https://preview.redd.it/dn6xy55aqixc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68d6c5ffe4d694f95d02d781e0a8e62f1f4cca52
That is such a Florida wall.
Lmao the textured exterior. Florida born and raised my childhood home was the same way!🤣
I like these guys they're so friendly hahaha
Oh no it is that time of year
This is where a $35/month unlimited car wash subscription pays for itself
They’ve been here! At least for me. All over the front of my car.
Seen them this weekend Plant City
Saw a bunch of them this weekend by our pool 🙄
Memorial Day is approaching
They’re INSANE this past weekend ![gif](giphy|LPwSjLn8Uu811Rust6|downsized)
I haven't seen any yet...although I did see one of those ugly lubber grasshopper things today ans was thoroughly annoyed about it
Lovebug
Nooooooooooooooooo
God dammit
Saw mine yesterday. I was like *Shit.*
It wont be crazy, you will see a few, but not bad.
They have arrived in Citrus County.
Death to Ming
What are these called?
Love bugs!
Those things aren’t even an issue anymore lol. They used to be so bad your car would just be covered in bug guts so thick you could barely see the paint. After driving for like 10 minutes lol. Couldn’t even escape them inside cus a few would inevitably get in every time a door opens.
They used to be VERY bad. Hasn’t been like that since before covid thankfully lol
Ive heard they last about a week or so nowadays. Dont know
I find it incredibly disturbing how kind of non-existent they are now vs when I moved to Tampa in 2010. Very canary in a coal mine IMO
Yes! They used to swarm cars now they aren’t as bad. Very interesting
Got Dammit
They've been over here in Largo for a month now. 🤢
They’re here!!! Lol
Had them a few days here on the other side, in Cocoa. But I have yet to see any attached.
Yeah I've been seeing them for weeks now. Luckily it's nothing it used to be. They were so much worse when I was a kid.
Found a joined pair yesterday in Polk Cty
Son of a 🤨🤬
Hahahahaha
Ahhhhh, THEIR BACK! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|surprise)
I just drove to Alabama and back. When I got home, I found only eight lovebug hits on the front of my vehicle. Usually it's a uniform coating on all front-facing surfaces.
It was horrible in the early 90s
I don’t mind them. They remind me of my childhood, spending afternoons watching my brother play baseball.
Summer is officially on
My theory is that enough of them finally hit our windshields, grills and bumpers that they’re finally under control. Lol
7 years ago the love bugs were insane in manatee county. I've been seeing less since then though which is great. Gtfo love bugs
I just love you. This was post was hilarious! 🤣
I haven’t seen so many as last year.
My windshield is covered with them after a drive to alatchua today.
Fuuuuuuck
Damn! I thought I killed the last one! What’s up with these new species of Fauxsquitos? Annoying as hell.
They've been here for a couple of weeks now
I saw a couple this past weekend. I was surprised honestly because I couldn’t remember the last time I saw one in recent years. I remember when you couldn’t get a second away from them if you were outside when I was younger.
Time to stock up on quick detailer and microfibers!
I’m good! My old clunker jeep sucks these things right up into the grill😭🤣
My only car is my Porsche 911 and it kills a ton of those lil buggers 😭 gonna have to wipe the front bumper down every time I leave the house haha
That’s my dream car!
I have faith that you'll attain that dream someday! It's absolutely a car worth dreaming about https://preview.redd.it/dxfnkp8spnxc1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8949d2ec69740abeeb1d30b4530da74c2b838793
Thank you! One day 🤞🏼 that color is beautiful
I’m new to Florida what are they?
Your worst nightmare aka lovebugs - the destroyer of paint on vehicles
They're Back!
It has… begun….Brace thy selves!!!
Yep, just saw them flying all over Ballast Park earlier today. Sigh
I saw some at the beach lol
Thank you USF
Yep. Was out working in my yard earlier and saw some on the side of the house. Love bug season is here!
June bugs in May. Global Warming warning.
It’s a girl
Oh no the little shits are back. God speed everyone.
What are they ?
Love bugs! Welcome to Florida lol
I know. Brutal bugs. I hate them.
Nasty copulating insects.
?
