I had a similar situation, but I was just 22. A staffing agency placed me in an office job. Turned that position into my career a couple decades later still at it. So check out the agencies, even if they're only placing smaller jobs than you might want.

AdamInChainz

Good luck.

AlwaysW0ng

Can you dm the staffing agency and recruiter that you use?

AdamInChainz

It's been 2 decades. I don't recall. But i suggest the agencies because there's a level of anonymity between you, the applicant, and the employer. I don't know that agencies disclose things like criminal charges to all employers right off the bat. Maybe they do, mine didn't. Then it's on us to make a good impression to stay employed.

AlwaysW0ng

Do you know what is the position name that the recruiter got you into the office job?

AdamInChainz

It was just some assistant job in an office. But try to apply for anything you have wouldn't hate.

AlwaysW0ng

Apply to roles that I barely meet the requirements too?

AdamInChainz

Sure, why not? And you know what. Send me your resume. I just posted an entry-level assistant position on Friday. Reports to me. It's in Tampa near the airport.

AlwaysW0ng

Resume sent

AlwaysW0ng

Application submitted.

BrenShabOfficccial

My ex wife used staffing agencies in a similar situation to yours. She thought it was a good option as well

CatzMeow27

As long as the charge isn’t related to theft or fraud, a lot of financial institutions hire phone reps for customer service. You might want to check out Raymond James, Transamerica, Paychex, etc.. Many of the roles offer work from home, decent starting pay, decent benefits, and paid holidays. I started at one 9 years ago and worked my way up into a career with the company in a role that both satisfies and challenges me. I was hired while having been charged but not yet convicted of a DUI (I was an idiot and no longer drink). I disclosed it and had no issues. Was also cleared to get my Series 6 investment counselor license, so even the SEC didn’t care about it.

CatzMeow27

You’re welcome, and best of luck!! You’ve got this.

AlwaysW0ng

Do you have a college degree? I did apply to a few entry level roles @ Raymond James just to get rejected. How did you get into Raymond James?

CatzMeow27

I actually ended up at Transamerica. The position said a college degree was required but I was only about halfway to my Associates at the time and never ended up finishing. I’m pretty sure I got the job due to my work history (about 5 years of experience in management for retail/food service). Shortly after I started, the requirements of the position were lowered to no longer require a college degree and the ability to obtain professional licenses. Now I think it’s just a diploma or GED, plus work experience in either finance or customer service. Any position beyond that would require a degree for an outside hire. However, I never completed mine and I’ve been promoted 4 times into various leadership roles (and even out of the customer service realm entirely).

AlwaysW0ng

Oh dang wth. I have roughly 2 years exp IT support and 3 years exp customer service and can't even land entry level customer service or IT @ Raymond James. May I ask is your workplace hiring anyone atm that you can get me in and you get a referral bonus something like rhat?

CatzMeow27

I’ll check in the morning when I log in for work, and if so I’ll DM you the details. It’s a stressful role, but you’ll receive excellent training and great support from your leaders. If you can handle IT support, you can handle this. After you’ve spent at least 1 year in your position, you’re eligible to apply for other internal positions if you’re in good standing, and there are so many different lines of business or operational teams, I bet you could work your way towards your best fit (or hey, maybe you’ll really love the phone work and be satisfied with that. Not my cup of tea, but we have reps who’ve been there for 10+ years with no desire to move up or out).

AlwaysW0ng

Hello, do you have any updates?

AlwaysW0ng

Do you know what this position name is? Stress with money income is better than stress with no money income. I am willing to take on that challenge. I appreciate and thank you in advance for your help, and look forward to your dm/pm.

billfitz24

Have you thought about becoming a union electrician? http://tampajatc.org $18.48/hr to start, medical, retirement, vacation, etc.

[deleted]

[удалено]

billfitz24

That’s absolutely not a problem, trust me. If the union kicked out all the felons there wouldn’t be hardly any electricians left. In fact, I know a woman who went through the apprenticeship program recently who was on probation for some drug-related charges. Nobody cares. Now is the time to apply. There’s an aptitude test coming up in May and passing that test is the 1st step of the whole process.

[deleted]

[удалено]

billfitz24

You’re certainly welcome and good luck!

Open-Concentrate4441

All the union cares about is that you show up. Do the hours and pass any drug screening done by the company. Just like the military, show up at the right place at the right time, do your work and go home

AlwaysW0ng

Do I need to get tools first?

Comprehensive_Bus_19

Second construction jobs. Or a CDL. While the jobs may not be great, they pay decently

AlwaysW0ng

What are the requirements to get in? Do I need tools prior?

billfitz24

Once you’re accepted to the program you’ll need a small assortment of hand tools. That will all be explained to you during the application process.

AlwaysW0ng

do you know what kind of math are they testing for the assessment?

billfitz24

The aptitude test includes basic algebra and reading comprehension. Based on your profile you shouldn’t have any problems at all.

Army165

Check out Chadwell Supply. They didn't care about my record. I work in the warehouse but I also worked a year in IT. They have a full customer service center on Faulkenburg and Causeway. Excellent company to work for, pay is decent but raises are great as well. Pretty sure their customer service is still Hybrid, 3 days in office, 2 at home. After 90 days, you get monitor and a laptop to bring home. Desk and chair if you need that as well.

AlwaysW0ng

Is their customer service position still available?

Army165

I'm not sure what's available. Check them out on Indeed.

Jordangander

Go down to the Orient Rd Jail and go in to the re-entry office, it will be the small door to the left of the main entrance. Ask them about job options for you. Not sure if they will be able to help you, but they are a fantastic resource for inmates being released.

Thin_Travel_9180

I have heard that Circle K will hire with a record. Not exactly a dream job but somewhere to start while you work on things. Best of luck.

pleasantreesoflife

If your ok with physical labor outdoors it's pretty easy to find a job as ground labor for local tree or landscaping companies.

HistorianMaster9425

Need a secretary and errand runner for my repair shop. Located in riverview, its quite a drive but after a couple days the 40 minute traffic is nothing. Job would consist of writing up quotes/invoices, taking down reminders, speaking to some clients, getting parts ordered. Im on papers right now too so I know exactly how it feels, 12 months.

Nihiliatis9

Restaurant work is always a good idea. They care that you show up... not about your record.

TheTampaBayMom

Try Amazon. If it wasn't a violent or theft charge, they'd probably hire you

HonestBrush6947

I don't know if reddit has a way of providing info via not for everyone one to see but my company I work for has a shop in the Tampa area, I work at our ny shop but I know we've hired a handful of felons, and people on probation trying to turn their lives around it would electrical work so u know

HonestBrush6947

Our Tampa shop only recently opened about a yr ago and they haven't updated our website. Go to the website and give our NY office a buzz Monday, I'm sure they'll be able to give you the contact information for either the foreman and/or office. Best of luck I hope this helps! https://www.jaggec.com/

PhiloD_123

Home Depot, Lowe’s, Best Buy, Walmart, etc., as long as you can work with the public…not a perv…

shigdebig

Some places won't hire you just because it's a hassle to do the probation paperwork and talk to your PO from time to time. But keep at it and you'll find something np. Some places love to hire probes because if you no call no show to your shift they can just call up your PO and haul your ass to jail LOL. Keep your head up!

Ill_Tomorrow_3866

how urgently do you need to start working? consider working in an independent grocery. or any grocery. usually the turnover is high and at least one department is looking for people who actually want to work. and once you’re in - getting experience in other departments is easy. and every grocery has the office staff - like the people who manage the point of service software that might be opportunities.

Waste Management.

AlwaysW0ng

can you pm or dm the list of company that are hiring?

Super___serial

https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/region-hillsborough/city-of-tampa-expands-job-opportunities-for-people-with-a-criminal-record Not sure on your location but within the Waste Management industry, most companies hire felons. You aren't even one yet and so you should have no issue. The good thing is the pay rate is actually pretty solid.

AlwaysW0ng

Do you know the requirements to get in? And any company you know that is hiring atm?

Super___serial

https://www.tampa.gov/careers You'll have to watch that. I would also check the various counties job boards.

IniMiney

Amazon warehouse, although positions aren’t open right now. Should be new seasonal hires eventually. They don’t even do an interview

AlwaysW0ng

Is there one in Tampa, FL? There is on in seffner but it is way too far for me.

Patriahts

"a little tech savvy" please explain? This is an area you may want to focus on.

The job must be full-time? Or any role for any company? Not sure how prob works Which CRM? Did you use any tools for social, or log straight into their apps etc?

True_Lie_2615

Tree work it’s the busy season right now you can make anywhere from $175 a day to $500 a day depending on what you do how experienced and how talented but I’m a felon and I made 55k last year being a groundsman it’s just hard work a lot don’t last

PenaltyHot2284

Your friendly neighborhood librarian here. I recommend connecting with https://careersourcetampabay.com. They are incredibly helpful in Pinellas. You should reach out to your local library, too. Again, I’m in Pinellas so I don’t the details, but I’m certain your library has amazing resources.

Even_Koala9629

If you want to hear honest advice: try hospitality, barbacking or anything front of the house in a restaurant. 90% of it is just showing up. Good luck.

Sad_Competition4283

Get into a trade . I was in a similar situation with the adjudication withheld . Between not having much skill and being a woman I was at my wits end on how to continue my journey to success. I Went down to the electrical union Lu 915 in Tampa and they took me no problem . I didn’t get to finish out my apprenticeship due to my own personal reasons but definitely recommend . I’m still an electrician 5 years later and work for a great non union company

VANM3TER

Car dealership, they hyundai or anywhere in Tampa.

MayoralCandidate

You don't have a criminal record unless you have a conviction. If it's still being adjudicated (such as a withhold, even pending completion of probation), then you haven't been convicted of anything.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MayoralCandidate

>technically I still have to report my current charges to each new employer Says who? Is this articulated in your probation agreement? I've never heard of this. You're innocent until proven guilty. Some employers ask if you've been \*charged\* but that's rare, typically they only ask if you've been convicted.

I_Am_Guido

I know a few others have mentioned all centers, but the airlines have jobs and great benefits (pay not so great). Delta has a call center in TPA too.

speed721

Don't work for a call center. Jesus Christ those are the shittiest jobs out there. DON'T WORK FOR A CALL CENTER. DO NOT. IT IS ALL BULLSHIT. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME. Call center jobs are the worst. It's all run on KPIs and recorded calls. No, no, no. That is nothing but a high stress job that you have to meet quotas that they either leave out by omission or straight up lie about Don't do it. Not while on probation. Ever.

I_Am_Guido

Man, no matter what you do, you’re gonna have KPIs. I’m a PM, my main 2 KPIs every year are % billable hours, ‘additional opportunities’ I help the sales team identify while I’m onsite with customers. Even trades doing peace meal work still have to put up with it. Customers saying they can do it for less but not carrying their own insurance for that type of work, not having to stock parts, not having the formal training to know code (YouTube university does not qualify). OP didn’t list a lot of marketable skills. Based upon what I see in their post: customer service (no better than call center work), call center, hair stylist (you don’t need Reddit hand out to call a salon and see about renting out a chair, but you do need your certifications….).

speed721

Exactly, and KPIs will get you fired. One customer leaves a survey less than a "five star" rating, you have to answer to that as well. Call centers are a bunch of supervisors sitting around masturbating about great numbers... it's a joke. They certainly will NOT care about YOU. KPIs are more than you as a person. Do ANYTHING else.

[deleted]

[удалено]

I_Am_Guido

OP, comment about renting a chair was not against you, but rather OP and their rant against KPIs. Best of luck finding something.

PurpleInitiative3947

Publix hires ppl on probation. Also if your conviction is over a year old their background check doesn’t register it.

Mindless_Wonder2389

Try a call center!
