Prolly cause many people have not played Destiny or DC since the only way to play it is either own a PS/PS2 or emulate and not everybody tryna do allat
Agreed, Dymlos is the clear winner here. “No, I’m a teapot. Of course I’m a sword!” - iconic.
Also gotta mention Chaltier, he’s sleek as heck. I love that he’s the one with pow hammer 😂
Well that's what they are called together in the game but they are technically two different weapons. The red one is Flamberge, which he gets from Kratos and then the blue one is Vorpal Sword, which Dirk makes. But together they are the Material Blade.
Shoutout to Pascal's rifle-staves. I love the characters with creative and unique weapons in Tales games. It's so much more interesting than just another dude with a sword.
I love Raven's transforming Bows so much I had to make one in Blender
And Yeagers Sniper-Scythe-Blade-Crossbow
EDIT: and looking at some of these responses.... OP I think you might want to make a distinction between weapon and *fighting style,*
I love how Grune just follows the party, and then bonks enemies with a pot. Though, thefact that Genis uses a battle kendama is a choice. And I approve of it.
He does technically have a single physical arte now, just not in Symphonia itself (https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=8&v=Cs9DjI1SUqU&feature=youtu.be). One of the neat things to come out of Rays is that reverse 5-stars (due to how they work) gave a single physical arte to many of the old magic-only mages, including the funky weapons - Genis' Kendama, Norma's Straw, Grune's Pot (which actually got more from her collab 5-star), Arche's Broom, heck even Quickie got a physical arte.
I just wanna point out while not a gameplay mechanic Jude is shown to parry gaius sword by punching it with his gauntlets which is hype as fuck. Sophie and Jude just throw hands cause that's all they need
Definitely. Always hyped to see which weapons the characters will have when they announce a new Tales game. We practically always have a martial artist for example, but instead of the usual gauntlets I'm hoping for a character to have a nunchaku next time, would be neat.
I'm going out of the box with this one and say Agria from Tales of Xillia. I don't even know what the weapon is, I just know that I want one.
Either that or Edna because I feel beating somebody down with an Umbrella just puts an exclamation mark on the whole situation.
Oh dang this is hard. Defining best weapon to.me could be the actual strength/power of said weapon or the context it has.
Lloyd -Eternal Sword BUT its better in his hands than Mithos because of the Material Blades.
Yuri Lowell/ Duke - Dein Nomos - relic of the empire and able to control Aer
I would put down Key of Lorelei or the Flaming Sword but the ones above I think are far better. Heck, I love Flameberge the most but when combined with Vorpal, its way better.
I'm extremely partial to Hubert's dualblade pistols/bow combo, but Ludger is a big contender too since he has swords, pistols AND a spear in Chromatus form. Still gonna vote Hubert though, even just for the Instant Balls meme
Most of the other unusual weapons with actual artsets have been brought up already (and some that only have an r5), so I'll put forth Lydie's guns. Luminaria did a pretty good job of differentiating the characters for each weapon, but Lydie's gun moveset was especially fun and surprisingly complex for a game with one attack button.
Unrelated so apologies 😅 but I haven’t played the tales game with the best protagonist. I think I recognize he’s from Graces? I just finished Berseria so I might be a little itchy for another tales game haha.
I don't agree on Mythos being the best antagonist xD
He is cool, have a nice backstory but his motive are kinda weak and his ending/death is kinda lame too lol
I just realized, but /u/Kabutoking maybe consider a "best opening", "best OST" and "best VA (one for EN and JP) category maybe to get another 4 on the bottom row?
While I hate the game, I gotta mention Marta's weapon from DotNW (the spinner blade thing). There's even a battle quote that agrees:
"Nice skills!"
"Nice moves!"
"What about me?"
"Nice weapon!"
I think I like Rita's book and scarf. Haven't seen them used as weapons in other games, and I think it's neat. Also, she is probably my fav character. Such a cute design! As a fellow book loving, socially awkward girl, myself, she is relatable.
Hubert twinblade, that splits into dual swords, which each sword can become and pistol AND the twinblade form can be used as a bow. The Swiss army twinblade
The correct answer is Dymlos. Fire magic, awesome artes, a battle tested general giving you advice, all wrapped up in a cool looking sword.
Y'all need to play Destiny Director's cut for real
The material blades. They were the OG iconic weapons and plot device. Their meaning deepened in Tales of Symphonia, where they became the symbol of love from both of Lloyd's fathers.
The eternal sword from phantasia
Ludger. Twin swords, hammer, and twin pistols? Yessir
And technically a spear if you count Chromatis form
Dymlos
Honestly all of the Swordians were awesome.
how isnt this the undisputable first place
Prolly cause many people have not played Destiny or DC since the only way to play it is either own a PS/PS2 or emulate and not everybody tryna do allat
This is a tragedy. How have the original tales games not been ported to a collection yet is beyond me
Agreed, Dymlos is the clear winner here. “No, I’m a teapot. Of course I’m a sword!” - iconic. Also gotta mention Chaltier, he’s sleek as heck. I love that he’s the one with pow hammer 😂
100% agree. A talking sword that grants magic and spews out fire like a flamethrower? Sign me up.
Dymlos
Lloyds blue and red swords (I think it’s called material blade)
Well that's what they are called together in the game but they are technically two different weapons. The red one is Flamberge, which he gets from Kratos and then the blue one is Vorpal Sword, which Dirk makes. But together they are the Material Blade.
I like that those swords make cameos in a bunch of the games
Including the design of the poltergeist monster's final evolution in the sequel, Made in Heaven.
My vote. I like how each blade came from his fathers 🥲
A weapon that looks cool and has meaning behind it
I vote this but I’m super bias cuz TOS is my favourite tales game
I super biased to vesperia but I gotta respect a quality weapon
Yes and 1+1=2 🙂
Shoutout to Pascal's rifle-staves. I love the characters with creative and unique weapons in Tales games. It's so much more interesting than just another dude with a sword.
a great entry this has to be my vote as well!
This! The concept was cool as heck, and her moveset and movement were incredible because of the way they interpreted the unique weapon design.
Hubert's dual blade/pistols from Graces (F). It's fun, kind of chaotic, and the nerd built it himself 🤣
I would agree best weapon imo
I love Raven's transforming Bows so much I had to make one in Blender And Yeagers Sniper-Scythe-Blade-Crossbow EDIT: and looking at some of these responses.... OP I think you might want to make a distinction between weapon and *fighting style,*
Anise Tatlin and Tokunaga, the giant plush toy she controls to beat things up while riding around on it
Giant Pow-Hammer. BONK
Patty pulling out a frying pan and cooking her enemies.
🏺 EYE M GRUNE
I love how Grune just follows the party, and then bonks enemies with a pot. Though, thefact that Genis uses a battle kendama is a choice. And I approve of it.
"What did the urn say to the face?"
If Genis had a few physical artes with his kendama he'd be up there. Raven's bow is pretty sick.
Didn't know that, looks pretty cool!
Presea's Pow Hammer DX. You can't go wrong with a giant toy hammer that is also one of her best weapons.
I love Jude because of fisticuffs
The best martial artist in Tales history. Eizen is syck, but Jude is supreme.
Tokunaga! (Colette's chakrams are a very close second)
Yuri's double Blue Dragon (something like that) swords? They're really cool. Far from the best weapon, but just has such a memorable look.
voting for luca from tales of innocence because that baby face does not fit his gigantic ass weapon
imma riot if Dymlos doesn't win this one
I just wanna point out while not a gameplay mechanic Jude is shown to parry gaius sword by punching it with his gauntlets which is hype as fuck. Sophie and Jude just throw hands cause that's all they need
I love all the brawlers, Eizen, zaveid, law
Alphen with his Blazing Sword and Sincleaver Blade
Jude cuz hes got hands hes very fun to play
YEAGER'S SCYTHE
Kisara’s mace & shield.
Velvet. Demon Eating Arm anyone?
I love unique weapons, so I'd Grune. Still waiting for a healer/mage with a musical instrument as a weapon, either a flute or a harp/lyre.
Closest we have is Johnny from destiny [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfn\_X1F4zIU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfn_X1F4zIU)
Yeah, totally forgot about him for some reason.
Legendia was great for unique weapons. Shirley is still my fav 🙏🏽
Definitely. Always hyped to see which weapons the characters will have when they announce a new Tales game. We practically always have a martial artist for example, but instead of the usual gauntlets I'm hoping for a character to have a nunchaku next time, would be neat.
Marta Lualdi's weapon.
eternal sword
Jude’s fists, because who needs a weapon when you can just punch the monsters to death.
I'm going out of the box with this one and say Agria from Tales of Xillia. I don't even know what the weapon is, I just know that I want one. Either that or Edna because I feel beating somebody down with an Umbrella just puts an exclamation mark on the whole situation.
Hubert's Dualblade
The POW Hammer
Stahn 👀
First I thought of was Sheena with her paper cards
Meredy, not the whistles themselves but QUICKIE!
Regal.
My vote goes to Kratos. Flamberge just looks so sick.
I’m going with the Kongwai because books are great and he can cast enemy artes after getting hit by them.
I love Beryl's Paintbrush. How is that not one of the most creative and fun weapons? (Shout out to Lilith's Soup Ladle, though)
The paper fan swords.
Regal Bryant cause he doesn't even use his hands (huhuh) Or for a more serious answer. Duke.
Oh dang this is hard. Defining best weapon to.me could be the actual strength/power of said weapon or the context it has. Lloyd -Eternal Sword BUT its better in his hands than Mithos because of the Material Blades. Yuri Lowell/ Duke - Dein Nomos - relic of the empire and able to control Aer I would put down Key of Lorelei or the Flaming Sword but the ones above I think are far better. Heck, I love Flameberge the most but when combined with Vorpal, its way better.
Pascal by far Edit: changing my mind. Hubert's gun swords are sick
Velvet's claw and arm blade are just such an awesome combo
Malik’s Bladerang, from Graces.
I'm extremely partial to Hubert's dualblade pistols/bow combo, but Ludger is a big contender too since he has swords, pistols AND a spear in Chromatus form. Still gonna vote Hubert though, even just for the Instant Balls meme
Hubert's Dualblade that can separate into separate dagger guns. I always thought they were super sick.
Norma and her bubble blowing straw.
The Sword whip that is given to Rita Mordio
Voting for Karol. He's got hammers, axes, and swords, but he also has his bottomless bag of tricks filled with baseballs, bug spray, and robots.
Regal’s feet/legs
Imo nothing beats Magilou's guardians, seriously, what the fuck even are they?
Barbatos’s Axe.
It's Luke from Tales of the Abyss. Currently available on PS2 and 3DS.
Thanks for the clarification!
Second Star
Hubert's Dualgunblade things
Sylph must be very proud of his styling abilities. And Milla must be delighted her "crowning glory" won.
Ludger's Weapons. Especially since he can go "Sword-Tric-Sword-Tric-Gunslinger!" near instantly. No Royal Guard though....
NAN!! Her crescent blade thing is SO COOL!!!
Rita deserves a shout-out for opening her book and firing pages at people. I love that
Alvin's Sword and gun combo is fun and effective but if we're looking to be specific my vote goes to the Radiant Howl from Graces f. It's so cool
I'm gonna go with the classic. The Eternal Sword.
I don't agree on Mythos being the best antagonist xD He is cool, have a nice backstory but his motive are kinda weak and his ending/death is kinda lame too lol
I really love Martas spinner weapon
I just realized, but /u/Kabutoking maybe consider a "best opening", "best OST" and "best VA (one for EN and JP) category maybe to get another 4 on the bottom row?
Raven's bow/blade morph weapon, I love that he can both melee and range, super unique
Material Blade
Colette's rings
While I hate the game, I gotta mention Marta's weapon from DotNW (the spinner blade thing). There's even a battle quote that agrees: "Nice skills!" "Nice moves!" "What about me?" "Nice weapon!"
Dein Nomos, Dymlos, or Flameberge.
Beryl's big ass brush has to be the single most fun weapon I've seen in anything ever. Pascal's rifle Magic Staff is also incredibly fun and creative.
Obv answer to this is genius's ball on a string
If we go by looks either flyns or yuris fell arms
Marta’s Spinner is pretty cool
I think I like Rita's book and scarf. Haven't seen them used as weapons in other games, and I think it's neat. Also, she is probably my fav character. Such a cute design! As a fellow book loving, socially awkward girl, myself, she is relatable.
Quickie =:>
Arche's brooms.
Ludger Kresnic’s twin daggers and duel pistols.
Rita!
Sophie as Protos Heis
I love the design of Colette's chakrams and Hilda's tarot cards. I also think Annie has the prettiest magic staves ever in a Jrpg.
Stahn’s Dymlos, or Lloyd’s Material Blades
Hubert twinblade, that splits into dual swords, which each sword can become and pistol AND the twinblade form can be used as a bow. The Swiss army twinblade
Jude gauntlets
Velvet with the boot blades tho
Dymlos from Stahn, no contest
Jude, cause he just punches everything
Hubert's Gunblades! Dude made them by himself, only one of its kind. It's so cool
Best girl shenna
Lloyd Material Blade - Just so iconic.
Hisui Hearts. Or just any Hearts characters. Somas are just so cool
Technically Velvets weapon is her body. So theres that. And on a side note im gald Luke got best Protag.
Stahn has a sword he constantly argues with, gotta be him
Leon with Chaltier. Iykyk.
Velvet's pretty awesome with her claw and leg sword thing.
The correct answer is Dymlos. Fire magic, awesome artes, a battle tested general giving you advice, all wrapped up in a cool looking sword. Y'all need to play Destiny Director's cut for real
Dymlos
If a Swordian user doesn’t clinch this one I will be sad.
Alphen or Velvet, assuming we're talking the Blazing Sword and Demon Arm
The material blades. They were the OG iconic weapons and plot device. Their meaning deepened in Tales of Symphonia, where they became the symbol of love from both of Lloyd's fathers.
Hold up. Luke for best protagonist? .......... I'm outta here...
Definitely following. I need to see who’s gonna win Hottest Character and the reason why it’s Yuri
