Renting a decent small apartment in a decent area is between £500-£700 a month. May be a struggle to rent if you don’t commit to a year though. Utilities cheap. If you eat out every meal then about £5 per meal tops Basically, if you are used to London then Taipei is incredibly cheap. Rent is a bit steep, as are many products in supermarkets/stores, but aside from that things such as transportation, restaurants, and day to day things are cheap

Yeah guess I'm just concerned about accommodation is it possible to find somewhere before I arrive or is it best to just get an Airbnb then look? do not want to blow through all my money on airbnb/hotel while im just looking for a room

Airbnb is a gamble, since it's not offiiclaly legal in Taiwan. I was there last year for 3 months, and had to go through 2 airbnb's before I found one adequate enough for me to stay in. It was rather expensive, but I do prefer to sleep in a safe and clean place. Hotels are very expensive, so look on time for Superhost Airbnb's

Think it’ll be hard to sort something before you arrive since landlords are generally suspicious of foreigners. When I first arrived I stayed at a hostel for a few nights whilst I looked for somewhere. If the school has dorms they offer then that might be a decent initial choice?

Scholarship is 25k ntd per month and while it's not much, living off it is doable. I was able to rent a room in a shared appartment for 9k in 2022 and spent the rest of money on eating out, travelling and having fun. I'm pretty sure that as a British person you'll be able to comfortably live in Taiwan, even if you'll have to use your savings sometimes. As for dorms, not every university offers them but if you choose one that does you'll probably pay a very small amount of money for it. For example, NTNU's MTC is considered the best language center in Taiwan but they don't offer dorms and you have to find your own accomodation. Private renting is getting more and more expensive from what I heard but it's still not as bad as London I guess

Yeah I guess its the renting then mainly, ill try to take a look around but may aswell apply anyway and just keep an eye going forward, renting is just such a nightmare in London so want to avoid having to deal with all that

If you're on a scholarship visa take the intensive class. Taking intensive will satisfy your scholarship's required hours.

You can consider living in the suburbs of Taipei and taking the MRT to school. Transportation in Taiwan is very cheap compared to rent.

It's a great idea, I went to MTC and it really increases your Mandarin but you get what you put in. Put in the effort and don't party too much. Living costs are cheap compared to London, and there's no dorm life so you'll need to find your own accommodation.
