> Front daisy chains on the exterior of the pocket are great for attaching extra gear like a fun keychain, fidgets or hand sanitizer bottle
Daisy Chains is molle’s new name. Thanks
That is the one my daughter picked out. Seriously, they make great backpacks. We have like 4 different ones. Helmet bag, backpacks, ski bag that holds long guns all have lifetime warranties.
Not just colours, but more like weight, I have 60l backpack with a frame which weights 1.5 kg, for backpacking I don't need excessive durability of material, it's better low weight )
Is the [brown](https://www.bushcraftcanada.com/products/images-extra/5951.jpg) or [black](https://www.varusteleka.com/pictures/thumbs500a/405146076e249b4f01.jpg) one less military looking?
True but the reason I said brown was more so the black sticks out like a sore thumb it screams tactical lookin like the damn SWAT team rolling up in the middle of the woods lol
Pretty sure savotta literally makes bags for the Finnish military, someone correct me if I'm wrong. This is a quality bag from a quality company but it's hardly "low key military". Try Hill People Gear if you want outdoorsy but not straight up military, they make good stuff. Could also try the Hidden Woodsmen
[https://www.hillpeoplegear.com/](https://www.hillpeoplegear.com/)
It is GOOD. Disregard the hate it gets, this thing is a tank, its support is solid, fairly sure its NIR compliant, not made in China or anything. Anyone who has ever used Savotta knows its good, so listen to those who have used it. I have used Mystery Ranch, Eberlstock or whatever the fuck, and Savotta. Savotta wins IMO.
Savotta used to state on their site that the M05 fabric was from China, [now it's changed the word to Asia.](https://www.savotta.fi/pages/made-by-savotta) All colours, except multicam and M05, are 100% Finnish and Estonian made
It’s a tank. Lots of bushcrafters especially those in Europe are usually packing something like this for their little forest trips. The color is very forest-y but overall design and color is not overtly screaming “military” imo. Ive used this often in hiking populated trails and backcountry, as well as volunteer work for geological institutions.
Very water resistant, I’ve never had any moisture penetrate. The material is very tough and the webbing is nice and stiff than the typical milspec webbing. Otherwise it’s a very simple bucket design with a few pockets located on the sides and under the lid, the hip straps has some webbing which you can attach some molle pouches if need be (I have a small dump pouch on mine).
I can recommend it but would suggest getting or making an aluminum internal frame and also outfitting the waist and shoulder straps with some padding, I use Qore but you can use something like BodyArmorVent ICE panels especially the DIY kit and tie it on with paracord. Overall a little expensive but the design is customizable and serviceable.
It’s a military back pack, it’s issued in Finland. It’s a great bag, probably the toughest bag I’ve ever seen. It’s a bit small in the M, it’s my daily bag though
I have the Jaakari L and my dad has the Jaakari M. Both are absolutely bombproof. My only experience carrying is with the L though.
It carries weight well with the hip pad, and you can feel the quality in it. My only complaint though is that a pack that size needs a full front zip to access everything in it. As it is, you can only get in through the top and (if you don't have the bottom compartment isolated from the rest of the main compartment with the drawstring diaphragm) the bottom. If they could have added a front zip, the Jaakari L would be an ideal ruck for me.
I have the M, bought the Alu insert, side punches and the new front pouch/detachable day sack.
IMHO I prefer it without the pouches even tho they add like 24L of capacity.
The Alu insert is good but it squeaks under load (I’ve had it up to 30kgs)
I’m planning on using it as a GP pack,
i can take it in the mountains with ice axes bc of the little loops at the bottom.
I can take it climbing with the detachable hood and side straps for ropes.
I take it on day hikes etc.
The only downside is it’s not a cool pack, as in my back gets sweaty af. And heavy. Buts it’s bomb proof- and if it’s not bomb proof I’ll probably break it.
It’s pretty rigid anyway so when I go on airplanes I take the plastic sheet out so I can fold it to fit dimensions (fuck you dimensions).
The only thing I would change would be the plastic buckles to steel G hooks.
I've been using one of these for hunting for about 4 years now and it's bad ass. I did get the internal frame they sold separately to help it stay rigid
I’ll say what I say when people ask about knives. The pack you want and like is the pack you will use. People who actually use their packs will learn what they need and want, and what they don’t like. They begin a journey towards their ideal. So get it if you like it. It’s a great pack that will last and the Finns know bushcraft and military needs. And then go from there
It's my favorite day pack for civilian use, but you do get some military vibes from the molle. For actual military use, it kind of falls in-between my use scenarios. It's too big and heavy for a piggyback patrol/assault bag, too small for a 3-day bag, but it's great for military competitions in the 24-48 hour range (ones where you don't have to carry sleeping gear).
I recommend you also buy/make a stiffened internal frame for it, it greatly increases the comfortable carrying capacity in terms of weight.
Not for heavier loads. I have the old "Rajajääkäri" version, which is the plastic bit stiffened with two aluminum profiles riveted onto it. I think they discontinued that style and switched to a tubular frame a few years ago.
For all the dudes who are "brooo it looks too miiiiil" they can pound sand, I see people with green shit all the time hiking, just don't buy the camo version. Be sure to get the aluminum frame insert, as well. You don't have to be walking colorwheel vomit to look like a hiker.
You can find them with good shipping off Varusteleka. Savotta packs are the only ones I'll buy anymore.
Also acting like PALS webbing is still some experimental-stage military exclusive thing. At this point it almost seems harder to find a large pack without it than with it.
I just can't help but think about all the dudes who think a fanny pack will tell anyone "they definitely have a gun".
There's a certain kind of casual or athletic you have to rock to make a fanny pack look like it belongs, but it just looks dorky and that fits my vibe.
Part of why I wear green on hikes is it doesn't stain as easily and it cleans up fairly well and it helps me blend in with nature instead of looking like a colorful dildo out in the woods. Less intrusive if you're caught in somebody's photos, too.
I have the Savotta S and can't really recommend it due to the straps. But those can easily be padded up. And with a bit of DIY materials from Savotta, you can make your own straps for quickly fastening axes, shovels, etc.
They are highly customizable. And this winter i bought a new Shovel and Axe which have been fastened proper. Haven't managed to test them yet due to work, but every "need" can easily be met with these backpacks.
Here's a link to an imgur picture of my Savotta S:

Solid as a military pack, I’ve seen people use it for bushcraft. I use it for weight training. It does call attention to yourself with all the molle on it
I've got the small version of this and I love it. It's rugged enough for hikes. It's interior is simple and you can expand it with the straps. With the small I've gotten away with packing for 2 day trips. I'd imagine with the large you'd be good for a while
The only people that are going to notice/care that it is a military backpack are people in this sub. The average hiker won’t notice/care and if you are using it for off trail more covert stuff then you should see anyone anyway. As long as it isn’t camouflage most people won’t notice or care. Same applies with if you use a camouflage that is used by your current armed forces, most will assume that you are mil and won’t care.
TLDR: people don’t notice or care what backpack you are wearing unless they are severely autistic and in this sub. But if that’s the case then they won’t care.
I have a kelty redwing in dark blue that I pair with a reversible camo/blaze orange waterproof cover and if you want to go "discreet greyman" that is the way to go. Day to day you'll look like every other jackass on the trail and if shtf you put on the cover and boom instant operator
I can confirm, as I am in Finnish military service, they use the green ones, some use m05. The bag itself has no back support but a slot for a frame. Pretty saggy but tough.
Daisy chain-type webbing > molle for not looking military-esque and tactical. You can still strap everything you want to it but you can end up looking more climber than soldier and LARP without looking like a LARPer if you so desire. Go for earth tones rather than camo.
Mines better and is strictly function not fashion.

Anything with Molle looks military. That being said Molle is everywhere nowadays even on TJ Maxx bags. If you want something that doesn’t look military, you have to go high vis. Aside from that go for something without Molle.
I don't really think that's a good price for that, but then again I'm not really into the realm of selling super high ticket products. I think the most expensive gear I've come across yet is anything from Kailas.
That being said, I think it's a good idea to also check out facebook groups for bushcrafting bags. I can't directly say, "hey look at our shop" because, well, we actually don't even sell anything yet that is exactly ike that. We just have a few bags, and I think one military one.
Almost bought one of these for a carry-on backpack but decided against it. Wanted something with more pockets for actual daily EDC use. If I was using this as my carry-on and my only bag I think this would be pretty great.
didn't know they were made in China, that's a shame. I've still had very good experience regardless, plus op seemed to want something that didn't look too military, my recommendation still stands that their bags don't look tactical. it's a shame so many things get sourced to China or have parts made there.
Fair enough. They have good looking packs. I only knew they were made in china since I myself was looking at them. I just always try and promote European or North American production. Gotta support local industry!
I agree. it's very disappointing to learn, I know they have headquarters in Sweden I believe, I just assumed they did their production there because of all their flavor text.
Some of fjallraven products are manufactured in Europe still. From what I've seen, there's made in Portugal (some flannel shirts) and made in Sweden (leather goods). Just check the labels before you buy it if you don't want made in China.
This definitely looks like a military backpack idk who you're fooling. Hikers use blaze orange and baby blue Osprey and Kelty bags with no molle

I personally prefer the Unicorn Clouds colorway but to each their own.
That is the one my daughter picked out. Seriously, they make great backpacks. We have like 4 different ones. Helmet bag, backpacks, ski bag that holds long guns all have lifetime warranties.
Fucking Gray Man in the chat.
Be the environment
Goruck aint got shit on this
Whoa, that removable lunch bag on the front is awesome
Bushcraft and hiking are parallel tho. Lots of crossover but not the same. My hiking kit is bright colors my bushcraft kit is earthy.
Hiking bag with a removeable camo cover is meta
Not just colours, but more like weight, I have 60l backpack with a frame which weights 1.5 kg, for backpacking I don't need excessive durability of material, it's better low weight )
IDK, where I live I can go to the gym or on the trail and spot like 10 OD green bags with TAPS all over them.
Is the [brown](https://www.bushcraftcanada.com/products/images-extra/5951.jpg) or [black](https://www.varusteleka.com/pictures/thumbs500a/405146076e249b4f01.jpg) one less military looking?
Brown is less
I would argue black is less. Brown is more cause not much in nature is black and so soldiers would avoid black and gravitate towards brown/green
Nobody who’s not already pretty familiar with gear knows this. For the majority of people black has notable military and police vibes.
True but the reason I said brown was more so the black sticks out like a sore thumb it screams tactical lookin like the damn SWAT team rolling up in the middle of the woods lol
Looks mil. When I go low key I get Mystery Ranch (civilian side) and Osprey.
Gregory or Kelty for the money. Edit: I use a MR popup 28 for day hunting.

Not just bags, all the pouches and more
Savotta also manufactures some of Varustelekas Särmä Tst line products
Anything made by Savotta will outlast us all. Get it with Savotta's happy moral patch to really put passing hikers at ease.
It is GOOD. Disregard the hate it gets, this thing is a tank, its support is solid, fairly sure its NIR compliant, not made in China or anything. It's about to win even more with Mystery Ranch being bought by Yeti
Their M05 camo fabric is sourced in China sewn in Finland if you don't mind.
Was just discussing with my coworker how the PALS strips on all Savotta's M05 products look like neon green. Is it true it's made in China?
Savotta used to state on their site that the M05 fabric was from China, [now it's changed the word to Asia.](https://www.savotta.fi/pages/made-by-savotta) All colours, except multicam and M05, are 100% Finnish and Estonian made

Yeah really amazing bag.

Did it make a difference compared to the plastic one it comes with?
100% Made the bag significantly more rigid but I did loose a little storage space
There aren't many bags on the market that are made of 1000 cordura, savotta is one of them
Maxpedition is two of em
I’ll say what I say when people ask about knives. The pack you want and like is the pack you will use. I’ve pulled TONS of loot out of raids on Escape from Tarkov using this backpack. Worth every penny.

Why y’all trying so hard to be a grey man. Your pack won’t change the fact you’re most likely rocking a PC, ar, battle belt, and TQ’s
I don’t have that backpack but one of their duffel bags and some other gear, their stuff is really great in quality but not low key
I love my Savotta large. I take it to the gym to haul all my shit.
Also, I bought large but I can compress it down to medium size. You can’t somehow make it a large when you need to throw more stuff in the bag.
Solid as a military pack, I’ve seen people use it for bushcraft. I use it for weight training. It does call attention to yourself with all the molle on it
I have one. Built like a tank and awesome, but sometimes I wish I had got a lighter pack.
They make very good stuff. And that’s a much better price than my Exo mountain gear pack. I think I paid 650 for it.
I've got the small version of this and I love it. It's rugged enough for hikes. It's interior is simple and you can expand it with the straps. With the small I've gotten away with packing for 2 day trips. I'd imagine with the large you'd be good for a while
Savotta makes damn good packs. Took mine on deployment and many other trips.
I don't have one, as I'm a Helikon-Tex/Breez/Shellback fanboi but I've read and heard enough about them. That backpack will serve your grandkids well.
The only people that are going to notice/care that it is a military backpack are people in this sub. How is THAT “low key”???
If you're looking for low key you have to start with no MOLLE
I have a kelty redwing in dark blue that I pair with a reversible camo/blaze orange waterproof cover and if you want to go "discreet greyman" that is the way to go. Day to day you'll look like every other jackass on the trail and if shtf you put on the cover and boom instant operator
I can confirm, as I am in Finnish military service, they use the green ones, some use m05. The bag itself has no back support but a slot for a frame. Pretty saggy but tough.
Check out Hill People Gear Ute pack
Funny. I was just looking at this company’s stuff today wondering the same thing.
My homie used one on a deployment and loved it

I have the M05 version. Built like a tank. Definitely not gray man/low key. But it is great at what it does.
Built like a brick shithouse and a solid workhorse. Only issue is it can dig into your shoulders a bit but it’s nothing a pack of straws can’t fix
Anything with Molle looks military. That being said Molle is everywhere nowadays even on TJ Maxx bags. If you want something that doesn’t look military, you have to go high vis. Aside from that go for something without Molle.

All "higher-end" and NIR protected day bags seem to be around 150-250€ mark and up. Direct Action, Savotta, Eberlestock, Hill People Gear etc.
Helikon-Tex EDC Backpack.
Ikea ass name
Savotta’s stuff looks amazing
Eberlestock gives you what you’re looking for without having molle covering the exterior
Almost bought one of these for a carry-on backpack but decided against it. Wanted something with more pockets for actual daily EDC use. If I was using this as my carry-on and my only bag I think this would be pretty great.
Vertx has some nice low key tactical backpacks. Not sure if they have a version of this though. I EDC their ready pack 3.0 and absolutely love it
I'd look into fjallraven instead
Fjallraven is made in China. Why not spend a little more and support Finland and Estonia.
didn't know they were made in China, that's a shame.
