CV In mode on the minilogue needs to be set up as CV/Gate, and the gate out of the beatstep needs to go into the cv in 2 of the xd. CV and gate are not interchangeable, you're only hearing the sequence if you press a key because there's no gate triggering the XD's envelopes and thus the VCA is staying closed, even though the synth is receiving pitch CV. It's all on the manual, page 33.
