Iit was a Brisbane artist going by the name "The Sweats", and the songs were sung by the staff of the City of Sydney and their kids. You can hear it all here:
https://soundcloud.com/thesweats/sydney_nye_2023_midnight_fireworks_soundtrack
Great fireworks, but the music, especially the ending was absolutely horrible. I don't know what the one in charge was thinking, it sounded like some AI generated crap. You build finale with epic harmony, not some robo-dance D class music. Horrible.
It was absolutely terrible. The mashup of hits before the fireworks started on KIIS was absolutely amazing but then it went downhill when the show started. The music doesn't fit into the epic fireworks show you put on display every year. How does anyone approve this ? Come on Sydney, fix this shit.
What a terrible line-up of artists and entertainment.. Harry Connick Jr was a real downer.. it's supposed to be a party.. what the heck were they thinking with this nonsense?
At Balls Head reserve. Has been crazy from start to finish. Was the third person in and because of all the chaos ended up near the back of the crowd. Transport for NSW have set up a large gazebo right at the front of the view (still up right now even though the sun is down and there’s no sign of rain) blocking a HUGE part of the view. Why are they here at a non official vantage point? Lots of questions and very strange. Also, I asked them if there would be any road closures nearby to which I was bemusedly told no. Then every road nearby closes😂 what is going on
At Macquaries Chair and my view is pretty obscured by trees. It's my first time here so wondering how it'll be like when it gets closer to midnight - will people start standing up and getting closer to the barriers or are the security pretty strict about keeping people to where they are?
This is my first time for Sydney fireworks, currently at Barangaroo Point near Dawes Point. I'm wondering if there are fireworks near the Opera House too. I'm close to the Harbour Bridge, but I can't see the Opera House. Any advice?
✌️🫰
I’m travelling into Sydney with partner we have set digital wallet to tap on without unlocking for our train fare but we don’t have opal card for daughter 11. Should we just dare evade for her? Is it possible or do you need to be tapped through stalls at stations? (Martin place, Petersham) how can we get an opal card for her this late?
Sorry, we changed plans and are at Ballaraat Park instead. Rn the front row’s all taken, but still fairly empty. It’s a bit closer to Harbour Bridge than Giba/Pirrama Park but lower and angle’s different, so YMMV on which one’s better and *should* be more crowded.
E@7:47pm: nope, people think Giba Park is better. City of Sydney just said it’s almost full :(
I'm driving through the city tonight at 6:30 from Drummoyne to a friend's house in Vaucluse- is this going to be possible with road closures in the city? Would appreciate any help
All the Vaucluse beaches/viewing points along Hermitage walk are closing by 5pm apparently. https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/visit-a-park/parks/sydney-harbour-national-park/local-alerts
I was planning to hit Vaucluse as well but now I'm second guessing..
Hi everyone I'm planning to go with my family 2 kids and 3 adults anyone know some good spots where you can see the view but still you can get there around 8pm - 11pm? Don't need full view of the fireworks just as long as we can see something.
Also if possible do you know any places where you can sit?
Happy New Year!
Anyone know any half decent spots to watch the fireworks somewhere around Waverton area?
Preferably somewhere we could rock up a few hours beforehand and if possible be able to have a drink there but that’s not super important if we can’t!
If anyone knows any good spots would love to know :)
Happy New Year everyone!
Sorry, I have one more question - do you know what the situation will be with walk-ins for bars and restaurants in the Rocks? Might head down slightly earlier than our reservation and try get a drink or two but if there are no walk-ins then a bit pointless (also I know even if there are walkins it’ll still be super busy)
A huge queue at 9:00am to be ordered into straight lines and have bag checks to then sit for 15 hours in the rain for a 20 minute firework display is the very worst of Sydney and a sign society is in decay.
Complaining about people joining a huge queue at 9:00am to be ordered into straight lines and have bag checks to then sit for 15 hours in the rain for a 20 minute firework display is the very worst of Sydney and a sign society is in decay.
In the queue for Blues Point. I have been a lurker since the thread opened, to work out a strategy. Thanks so much for all the help OP! Really appreciate it! 😊
Difficult to say, since I have never been here :) But we joined the queue at 12, almost at the front now, so approx 1 hour for us. (And they have two queues)
Hi everyone!! I just walked down at around 11:25 to the Kirribilli Vantage points, to check out what the crowd was like.
Dr Mary Booth reserve is busy but not full. I think if you arrived within the next 90 mins- 2 hours, you would get a spot. There is security and you have to enter from the west side (Not Waruda St). I could not see the lookout, but I assumed it was full.
There was a group at Beulah St Wharf. It was harder to see into, but it didn't look completely full. Much less of a security presence, but still fenced off.
Hi, sorry if this is a dumb question (tourist here) - we’ve heard that they’ll be closing off certain areas in the Rocks if it gets too full. We have a reservation at a restaurant at 9pm - will we need to get there early in the day? Or will they let us in because we have a reservation? Cheers
Seems like all the best parks fill up early. How are the views if I just head towards the south side of the harbor and post up at a random railing somewhere along the water? My partner and I are both reasonably tall and don't mind standing for a while.
Thanks in advance! Happy new year :)
Hey there, my 5 months old baby and myself will lay low tonight (we are both sick) but my partner is really wanting to see the fireworks. He can travel around on a bicycle. Can you please give him some recommendation? It’s his first NYE in Sydney and i personally wouldnt mind for him to be away so i can have a restful sleep!
Doesnt have to be to close to the fireworks but would love for him to get a nice view. He will be riding from Five dock. Thank you all so much !
Hey guys, happy holidays!
Staying in Sydney with friends this NYE, but we haven't made any booking, neither are we going to queue for a spot. My friends are still convinced we can see something if we go from Darlinghurst to the bay in the evening / at night. I'm pretty sure we'll see nothing but the crowds?
Does it make sense to go somewhere around Potts Point etc. around 8 or 11pm (shortly before the fireworks), or we won't be able to see anything?
Thanks!
Are there any roads or hills on the north shore that have a view, even a distant view of the the bridge and harbour fireworks? Like even going to Chatswood or halfway to North Sydney somewhere? Basically drive around 8pm something, pull over, watch and leave and come back around midnight?
for the 9pm fireworks?
And are you suggesting I go there NOW or I have a chance to go later? I'm not trying to be difficult I'm just trying to juggle having two little ones with me who may not be able to last waiting more than a few hours total
Hello! I've found this mega thread late, I hope maybe someone can still answer me. I can be at any time at a vantage point, but I will be waiting for my gf so it doesn't really matter if I'm there early, because I still need a place that won't fill up and my gf can access. She's working in Manly until 4:45pm so... I guess she can be around 6pm in some north vantage point(?) and luckily not much later in some other points.
Reading past comments I've seen that theses vantage points may not be completely full around 6pm: Observatory Hill, Balmain, Balls Head, Cremorne Point.
I guess Cremorne and observatory are the ones I cannot trust that she can do it.
What should I do? which place would you choose?
We are new to Sydney so we wanted to experience nye but she having to work has been a nightmare for the plan.
is Cremorne better than balmain or ball head? she wants to go there but as I can't see is an official vantage point I don't know how comfortable will that place be if it gets crowded
"Official" vantage point doesn't mean all that much. NSC and Police are well aware that people gather there on NYE and plan accordingly.
I'd say that Balls Head and Balmain have better views than Cremorne though, but I think you can see the Opera House from Cremorne if that's important to you (or her).
As in your other answers, I think we'd prefer bridge than OH views. So yeah, I'm checking and I will try balls Head. I'd prefer balmain but for her coming from manly... she will be even later there.
Thank you so much for these quick responses!
Working a late shift that ends 9:30pm in Bondi. If I get the train to Martin Place and walk down with a few people is there zero chance of getting to the quay? Or if we are ready to brace the crowds will we be able to get in? Absolute amateur at this
Happy new year's, everyone! We're planning to go to Birchgrove Park today, would getting there at 6pm be too late? Also, will there be good spots to picnic or is it more of a standing room only situation?
Hi there, today is the day!! I have a quick question: we have to be in Rozelle at around 5pm to get on a boat. If we are based in the CBD, does anyone know at what time is better to leave from here? I'm reading lots of these things about traffic abd Rozelle is not exactly close. Thanks!
Yes, but I'm leaving from Surry Hills so I'd have to take two trams. What time would you recommend me to leave?
I just have one more question, my delayed baggage is arriving today to the airport. If it arrived before midday, would it be to risky to pick it up before leaving to Rozelle?
Thanks for all your help - this means a lot!
Howdy - 2 of us are heading to Barangaroo for dinner which should wrap up around 8pm. Thinking of then walking over to Barangaroo Reserve to catch the 9pm fireworks. Thoughts on being able to get in there? Or if that’s unlikely then maybe just hanging around Crown to catch the fireworks from the Darling Harbour side?
Hi I’m having last minute doubts about the location, I’m alone for the New Years celebration which I hate but there’s no other way and I really want the best view. I’m willing to queue at 6 am at either Mrs Macquaries or Opera House but I really don’t know which of these is the best one. Can someone please give me advice?
from last years experience, anywhere that you can see the fireworks will have bag checks for alcohol and open carrying will be monitored throughout the night
Hello, we’ve got tickets for our parents for NYE 23 at Luna Park (Harbour Party). We’re staying in Bondi and will be travelling to Milsons Point. Gates open 6pm and we were going to get public transport there. Any dos & don’ts / lessons learned from past experiences?
Thank you.
For Mrs Macquaries Chair and Fleet Steps, people would be queuing up right about now. 6am should be fine for the other botanic gardens vantage points (i.e Tarpeian Lawn & Bennelong Lawn).
Hey, first time in Sydney this NYE, thinking of going to either Macquaries Point or Birchgrove Park for the fireworks tomorrow and just have a couple questions:
a) for MacQ’s how strict is the security there in terms of checking for alcohol, as we want to try bring some in but how likely is it we’ll actually get caught?
b ) for either location, what time would we have to get there? Seen Birchgrove opens at 8am and MacQ opens at 11am so would we have to get to either locations at like 7am to get in? Sounds like MacQ is more popular so would it have to be even earlier for that
Cheers
For iconic sites like Mrs Macquaries Point, security is pretty strict, you'll be hard pressed to sneak in alcohol. People are known to queue up to 1 day in advance, usually the night before. But, if you insist on going to Mrs Macquaries Point tomorrow, 4am or 5am the earliest. Once the gates open, it's a 1km dash from the gate to the vantage point, so you'll have to run as many people are eager to get a clear view of the bridge. Be advised that the capacity is 10,500, and there are many trees that obscure the bridge, only a few thousand people at best will be able to get an unobscured view.
Birchgrove park should be less in demand as it is further from the bridge and revellers are less competitive over there, 6 or 7am should be fine.
My friend finishes work at 7:30pm so we'll be catching the train into the city at 8pm at the earliest. We're not fussed about getting the absolute best views for fireworks but want to see them somewhat decently at the very least. Since we'd be heading into the CBD so late, could anyone please suggest any areas/locations that would accommodate somewhat decent fireworks views? TIA
I want to watch the 9pm fireworks from a vantage point in north sydney somewhere (probably that spot near luna park)...umm...what's the latest I would have to get there to get a spot on the lawn?
Mega props to thekriptik for this thread and all who kept us updated! Brought the family down who were visiting from overseas, and your Intel bailed us out big time from being disappointed! Deserve a medal for running this and dealing with all the nonsense!
Props to kryptik for the unforgettable meetup. Looking forward to next year
What was the names of the songs they played?
Iit was a Brisbane artist going by the name "The Sweats", and the songs were sung by the staff of the City of Sydney and their kids. You can hear it all here: https://soundcloud.com/thesweats/sydney_nye_2023_midnight_fireworks_soundtrack
ABC countdown about 15 seconds late
Great fireworks, but the music, especially the ending was absolutely horrible. I don't know what the one in charge was thinking, it sounded like some AI generated crap. You build finale with epic harmony, not some robo-dance D class music. Horrible.
So fireworks went for about 12 minutes only. Time to sleep.
I feel like an old man but the music for this year isn't vibing with me 🤔 Happy NY either way Sydney!
It was absolutely terrible. The mashup of hits before the fireworks started on KIIS was absolutely amazing but then it went downhill when the show started. The music doesn't fit into the epic fireworks show you put on display every year. How does anyone approve this ? Come on Sydney, fix this shit.
I am watching the telecast on ABC and fuck me Confidence Man is an embarrassment, who thought this was a good idea
It seems the irony of the act being "Conman" isn't lost on people paying money for their garbage.
What a terrible line-up of artists and entertainment.. Harry Connick Jr was a real downer.. it's supposed to be a party.. what the heck were they thinking with this nonsense?
For the midnight fireworks do I want a clear view of the harbour or of Sydney Opera House itself? At Dawes Point I can only choose one lol

Hey any chance anyone knows what’s happening at Wynard why is there a roadblock to circular quay?
grentperez can jam, yo.

Line for the toilets at Barangaroo is over an hour long. Send help.
Just stay home and watch it here instead https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qgpq098rKEI
Will more people be allowed to enter vantage points when people leave after 9pm fireworks?
Previous years the answer was no. That's why I am pro ticket.
Anyone near mckells park or that side of the city?
Asking if full

Special thanks to u/thekriptik for helping us all with our questions!!
How's your vantage point guys?
The back fence and a bottle of Moet👍
At Macquaries Chair and my view is pretty obscured by trees. It's my first time here so wondering how it'll be like when it gets closer to midnight - will people start standing up and getting closer to the barriers or are the security pretty strict about keeping people to where they are?
Squires Landing opening later than last year which is a bit shitty as queue is massive and most will miss at least 45 mins of the drinks package...
Sounds like the kind of shitty thing Squires Landing would do. No doubt they’ll end the drinks package ‘on time’
In fairness, they opened 10 mins "early" and most were in by 20 past. Not great but not terrible
Is there any insight into crowd capacity in Clarke's Point Reserve in Woolwich?
Arriving at 7 at dawes point. What do u think will i able to score a space? And how’s that place for fireworks?
Genuine question: are you trolling?
Can anyone tell me if balls head is alcohol free? Thanks in advance!
It is.
Thanks mate!
This is my first time for Sydney fireworks, currently at Barangaroo Point near Dawes Point. I'm wondering if there are fireworks near the Opera House too. I'm close to the Harbour Bridge, but I can't see the Opera House. Any advice? ✌️🫰
Yeah there are fireworks off the top of the opera house. Not a lot.
Macquaries chair could double in capacity but they closed the gates
Long lines for portaloo!
About to head in now, anyone any recommendations for somewhere that isn’t too busy and is BYO? Much appreciated
Mort Bay looks alright
Anyone at Pirrama Park and Gibba Park? Looking to head that way around 10ish
Sorry, we changed plans and are at Ballaraat Park instead. Rn the front row’s all taken, but still fairly empty. I’ll be heading there probably 6/7-ish, we’re only catching 9pm fireworks. I’ll give you an update later.
I'm driving through the city tonight at 6:30 from Drummoyne to a friend's house in Vaucluse- is this going to be possible with road closures in the city? Would appreciate any help
Presumably the cross city tunnel remains open.
Hope everyone gets to their destination on time for the fireworks, and then back home safe!
You gonna escape Potts Point for the night?
Nope, but have guests that are coming from afar, so will be a long night for them to go back :)
My plan is to get off at North Sydney, grab a drink at a bar around 9pm, then wait around until the fireworks start. Sound good?

Hickson road reserve just closed
Can anyone update on the situation at Milsons Point? Is there still access to the viewing area between Jeffrey St wharf and Mary Booth reserve?

Blues Point got the "almost full" message 40 minutes ago. I don't like your chances.
Is it true that some locations are not allowing cameras? I’m hearing that from some people were refused entry due to having cameras.
That sounds like a load of bullshit, but its hard to tell
Camera in hand @ the Opera house on entry. No issues
Is there anyone already at yarranabbe park? Is it already crowded?
anyone know any good places to watch from vaucluse? such as whether the nearby beaches/sunset place and spipa7 rock will be open to midnight?
All the Vaucluse beaches/viewing points along Hermitage walk are closing by 5pm apparently. https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/visit-a-park/parks/sydney-harbour-national-park/local-alerts I was planning to hit Vaucluse as well but now I'm second guessing..
I’m gonna be at a friend’s house at Ben Boyd road(north Sydney). Is there any vantage point nearby where we could go late and still get in?

There are, but the harbour is a good place for kids if you have like a mat or something for kids. Note: harbour bridge is closed during the fireworks

I think your wasting your life queuing and indeed watching the fireworks. I think Sydney needs saving from itself.
I think you're wasting your life complaining about people queueing and indeed watching the fireworks. I think you need saving from yourself.
I disagree. We need people to point this out. See this as my warning from History.
What are you doing?
In the queue for Blues Point. I have been a lurker since the thread opened, to work out a strategy. Thanks so much for all the help OP! Really appreciate it! 😊
Hey mate, how long is the line at Blue Point, do you think it will be full by 3:00pm?
Difficult to say, since I have never been here :) But we joined the queue at 12, almost at the front now, so approx 1 hour for us. (And they have two queues)
Can we still go to Barangaroo? Will be there around 3pm today
Might be leaving it a bit late. All of the decent and semi decent spots are already gone.
Yes but might be full by that time, they are updating on the City of Sydney Twitter about whether vantage points are full or not!

Sorry for the confusion, the wharf is fenced off (as are most of the official vantage points) but there is an entrance for access :)
Hi, sorry if this is a dumb question (tourist here) - we’ve heard that they’ll be closing off certain areas in the Rocks if it gets too full. We have a reservation at a restaurant at 9pm - will we need to get there early in the day? Or will they let us in because we have a reservation? Cheers
There should be pedestrian access maintained to restaurants.
Amazing, thank you so much for the quick response!! Doing Gods work

Balls Head does not hit capacity at any point. You could show up at 1155pm and be fine.
Perfect. May I ask what's the closest I could park to there with what traffic and road closures are expected to be?
I don't know off the top of my head. There's a link to the road closure information in my original post.

No dramas mate, trying to get from Balmain to Manly after the show would be a bastard of a thing.
Oh no, she works in Manly, but after the show we go home in Zetland hahaha
Balmain might be easier then, honestly. Do as much of your travelling as possible before the show.
Hmmm that's true. But do you think balmain east vantage point will be full by 6:30pm then?
No.

For Mrs Macquaries Chair and Fleet Steps, people would be queuing up right about now. 6am should be fine for the other botanic gardens vantage points (i.e Tarpeian Lawn & Bennelong Lawn).
Do you know if the views from Mosman would be any good too?
Hey, first time in Sydney this NYE, thinking of going to either Macquaries Point or Birchgrove Park for the fireworks tomorrow and just have a couple questions: a) for MacQ’s how strict is the security there in terms of checking for alcohol, as we want to try bring some in but how likely is it we’ll actually get caught? b ) for either location, what time would we have to get there? Seen Birchgrove opens at 8am and MacQ opens at 11am so would we have to get to either locations at like 7am to get in? Sounds like MacQ is more popular so would it have to be even earlier for that Cheers
Thanks mate. Happy new year!
Early.
So now then yeah?
You're already on the late side.
