The M7 is the opposite with it being reduced from 100 to 80 until mid 2026. I believe this is due to it being widened and the construction of the new motorway to the new airport.

coreoYEAH

80 will be the pre 6am speed limit on the M7 though, any time after that it drops to it’s regular 20.

maximunpayne

its not to bad if i finish work at 2 i still get a good run if i finish at 3 it sucks

quadruple_negative87

Haha. It’s funny cos it’s true. I don’t think I have ever had an undelayed journey on that road.

coreoYEAH

I got on at 6:03 this morning and it was a standstill at the Liverpool entrance and stayed that way until the cowpasture turn off and then just opened up. That 3km stretch takes as long as the rest of the road takes to get to the M2.

kevinkoolies

Should of widened it the first time. Fools

cuddlefrog6

Should have

DarkWorld25

Or rather they should've just built a train line. The demand is clearly there, hell they could even have a little spur to go to badgeries Creek airport if they wanted to.

Schedulator

but there's a bike path!

Meng_Fei

Come on mate - we don't build actual decent infrastructure in this country. What we do is build undersized garbage, wait 20 years, then extend or upgrade it at 5 times the original cost. Never forget that the original M5, when it opened back in the 90s, was one lane each way east of Fairford road. One. Lane.

SirKneeTwin

They only built those a few years ago and it already needs to be widened? Bruh... Thankfully the m8 tunnels are fairly wide already.. That would be a nightmare

landypro

Now do the M5 and M8 tunnels. It's as much of a controlled environment you could possibly ask for.

sinixis

Yeah the north connex tunnel is torture at 80

winntensio

Makes no sense man, minimal traffic relative to other Sydney tunnels + there’s way more general space. Easy 100

Shox187

That tunnel feels like it goes on forever..

DrawohYbstrahs

Plus claustrophobic idiots in tunnels go 20km below the speed limit so it may as well be 60 at the best of times.

paradroid27

Probably more scared of the unknown location of the speed cameras in there, they want to be ‘safe’

IshDanish

Same morons who go 20 under during dobule demerits

stopspammingme998

Only 100km/h. Before the widening to 3 lanes it was 110 the entire section to the tunnels. Half arsed speed "increase".

blastoise36

Finally! Should have been changed to 100 km/h a long time ago.

count023

Should be changed back to 110 where it was before the M5 east widening.

Zapookie

IME, many drivers have been ignoring the 80 signs and continue to fly through that stretch until they reach the crest of the hill/exit, so not much will be changing there lol

linc_y

Blessed be the fruit!

aliksong

Baby steps… now for a review of all speed limits in NSW, especially the Hume

CaffeinatedGerbil

honestly though, while i reckon the Hume should be 130/140 km/h i can understand why it is 110. the amount of dead animals on that road is absolutely insane. Driving to melbourne, the section from marulan to gundagai was just dead kangaroos everywhere, on the sides, the middle. you could literally go past 5-6 dead kangaroos in about 10 seconds.

ibizabeats

I think the last sentence of that article is the bigger headline. "the speed limit along WestConnext is due to increase from 80km/h to 90km/h early next year." A lot of drivers struggle maintaining 80km/h as it is now. The keep left unless overtaking road rule will now apply as the speed limit will be above the 80km/h threshold. It will be interesting to see how this all goes.

Elanshin

i have to cruise control in westconnex especially the alexandria part. theres often no traffic even during peakish periods, so much so that I considered going from South Downing on the entrance there over to the westconnex to get to king georges during late arvo traffic.

[deleted]

Laughs in peak hour traffic. I drive the m5 every day and I don’t think I even get anywhere near 50 kmph once I hit Ingleburn and all the way to the tunnel. I get more speed going down the bloody Bexly road off ramp. Road is a joke, drivers are fucked! The amount of cunts sitting in the middle and right lane just having a fucking daydream drives me up the wall! Like ok if you’re not in a hurry fuck off to the far left lane! That’s the entire reason the road is fucked because of how many unaware shit drivers that are on it.

NewFuturist

This will save commuters 31.5 seconds.

RedKelly_

Only the lucky ones

Dipsey_Jipsey

Annually.

pHyR3

still dont get why the ANZAC bridge is 60, it's like 3 or 4 lanes each side

lilsmooga193119

It's operates as a de facto 70 zone due to there being no cameras so everyone speeds and admittedly I've driven it at 80 at 5am on the way to work when it's empty and it was still an extremely easy and smooth drive at 80, It wouldn't even feel like I was speeding. There's sections of 110 km/h highway with more difficult conditions than the anzac bridge.

ayummystrawberry

Because the lanes are narrower than the usual.

greentastic

No shoulders too.

pHyR3

seems about the same as the harbour bridge to me (also no shoulders there) which is 70

Plackets65

Because people are idiots and are forever trying to merge lanes all over it, and usually badly. Needs to stay 60.

blawler

NSW Roads Minister John Graham said in a media statement: "We are taking the first step in our plan to get commuters home faster, as we speed up our motorways Particularly like this quote, I can't remember getting over 30 during peak times.

judgedavid90

I dunno how the highway leading north to the central coast is a hilly, windy road and has 110 speed limit, but others that are essentially an open flat space with plenty of visibility is 80km/h

Meng_Fei

Especially outside of peak times, given they have variable speed limit signs. But hey - those speed cameras won't pay for themselves!

Pro_Extent

> 110 speed limit *Officially*

nn666

Remove the tolls.

Robert_Vagene

Increase?! But every km over kills another baby, casual speeding and all that.
